Chapter 24 - The Missing Piece

ROSE'S POV-

As the week went on the aches and pains my body possessed slowly began to fade away. The purple bruises faded to yellows and I gained the ability of being able to sit up. As my body started to heal so did my memories. Things no longer remained foggy and unreadable. I could now remember most things that Lucius had done to me. Every hit, kick, and punch constantly reverberated through my memories. Him yelling at me and saying how I had no chance of ever getting help. The days on end feeling sick because of lack of food. But the one thing I can't seem to remember is why Lucius decided to take me back to Scorpius.

Leaving me on a dying heap on his doorstep he rung the bell and left. I'm constantly being asked why he brought me back. There must be a reason, right? And I want to be able to give an answer. I want to know. To remember. But I can't, and that's what frustrates me the most. The whole situation makes me so angry. I want to find Lucius and kill him because I don't deserve this. I shouldn't have to live in constant fear. I should be able to enjoy being married. But I can't because a crazy lunatic is trying to ruin my life. And that makes me really bloody mad.

But my anger only fuels me to do better. To figure out this long and twisted mystery so I can finally be happy. So, we've been working. And when I say we I mean me and Scorpius. Al and Alice left a little over a week ago so we could get back on track. So here's what we know. Lucius had the pheronixon over 20 years ago and used it to kill people. The whole ordeal got him thrown in azkaban. A year ago he busted out. He has proceeded to torture us and steal a time turner. We don't know why he needs to time turner but assume it has something to do with the Pheronixon. Side note, nobody bloody remembers Lucius having Pheronxion or it's existence in the first place. We don't know why that is.

So, what we've concluded is that we need 3 things. We need to figure out why Lucius has the time turner. What the time turner has to do with the Pheronixon. And how come nobody remembers anything about Lucius's case. Then, we can figure out how to stop him from doing whatever the hell he's planning.

Sitting propped up by pillows in my bed I slowly went through all we had to figure out. Three things. Three things and I can live a normal life. "So, why do we think he needs a time turner?" Scorpius asked. I was snapped out of my thoughts. "To turn back time." I said obviously."I know that. But why does he want to go back."He asked. "Haven't we already been over this? It has to do with the Pheronixon." I said. A thought popped into my head. "You know, we haven't actually done much research on the drug. We only really looked at what was in Lucius's case file. There's so much we don't know!" I cried. "I understand that. That's why we just need to look things up. Maybe we'll find some answers." He said. "Ok, maybe we should talk to someone. Looking things up can only get you so far." I suggested. "Who?" He asked. "Hand me the case file." I said. After grabbing it from him I looked at the spot that had been bothering me. "Look who the article was written by." I said. "Ingrid Youtz. How does that help anything?" He asked. Being careful to move in a way that wouldn't hurt me, I slid the newspapers towards me. Ruffling through the articles I finally found the one I wanted. "Aha!" I cried. "Read this." I said shoving it into his hands.

Earlier this week well renowned writer, Ingrid Youtz, was found half dead in her home. It seems she dueled someone and lost. Her attacker left thinking she was dead. Healers said she had serious injuries to her head and neck but is healing properly. Though she refuses to speak about the matter she has said she will continue writing when she is released from St. Mungo's.

The short article gave us everything we needed. "I bet Lucius attacked her." Scorpius said after he finished reading it aloud. "I wouldn't doubt it. And this was dated back to two weeks ago. I bet she's still in the hospital. If we go and talk to her maybe she can tell us more about Pheronixon. She obviously had to know a lot about it if she did a report on it." I said. "When should we go?" I asked. "Not anytime soon. You still can't walk." He said. My face fell. He was right. "Then go without me. We can buy one of those muggle recorders and you can record the whole thing. I can listen to it when you get back!" I said. "I don't want to go without you." He said. "Don't worry about me. I'll be here when you get back. And think of it this way. The longer we wait for me to get better the more Lucius gets away with." I said. "You're right." He said. "I know. Now let me transfigure you to look different." I said. He sighed and sat down in front of me.

I chatted away as I changed his features. By the time I was finished he was a tall brunette with  short hair, blue eyes and thick glasses. He stood up. "I still don't like doing this without you." He said. "It's going to be fine." I reassured him. "What do I ask when they ask who I am?" He asked. "Say you're Rolph Youtz. Her cousin." I said. "Ok, well I guess I should go." He said as he leaned down to kiss me. "You'll do great. I love you." I said as he prepared to apparate. "I love you too." He replied with a grin. "Oh, and remember to stop by the corner store at the front of the neighborhood and get a recorder. Take some of the muggle money." I reminded him. He held up a few pounds. "I have it taken care of.  Goodbye, Rose." He said. And with a 'pop' he was gone.

Scorpius's Pov

After buying the recorder I apparated to St.Mungo's. Stepping up to the help desk I went over the story I had come up with. A secretary looked up at me with a bright smile. "How may I help you?" She asked. "I'm here to see my cousin, Ingrid Youtz." I said hoping she didn't ask questions. "You're her cousin you say?" She asked. My heart was pounding. "Yes, we share a grandmother." I lied. "Do you have any identification?" She asked. I pretended to fumble through my pockets and frowned. "I seemed to of forgotten it. I came as soon as I could after I heard she'd be attacked." I said. "But she was attacked two weeks ago." She said. I could tell she was catching me in my lies. "I live all the way in a small city in Australia. The wizarding population there is very small so it was hard for me to set up a series of international portkeys." I said. She eyed me suspiciously. "You don't sound australian." She said. "Well, that's because I'm not. I was there for my work as a healer. I don't mean to sound rude, but I've been traveling for the last 10 days to get here. If you could please just let me see my cousin then there won't be any more problems." I said firmly. She seemed shocked at my outburst and nodded nervously. "Ok, right this way." She said leading me into a back room.

She knocked sharply and someone called out as in answer. The secretary opened the door and I saw a frail, beaten woman lying in the bed. He brown hair was graying and her face was covered in thick cuts. "You're cousin is here to see you." As soon as the words left her mouth she turned and left. Before Ingrid could say anything else I cast a muffliato charm so no one could here us. "I don't have any cousins." She said as she lifted up her wand with a shaky arm.

"I know that. I'm not here to hurt you. I just want to talk." I said. "What's your name?" She asked. "Scorpius Malfoy." I said as I cast the charm that undid the transfigurations on my face. She screamed. "You're related to him. Get out of here." She commanded in a scared voice. "I'm on your side. Lucius is my grandfather. I hate him. He's tortured me, my wife, and my bestfriends. I just need some information from you and then I'll be one step closer to killing him." I said. "Wife?" She asked. "Oh, um, yes. Her name's Rose." I said. "You seem a little young to be married." She said. "I guess when you're being chased after by your crazy grandpa you don't really know how much time you have left. Figured we'd seal the deal before it was too late." I said. Her face softened and the ends of her lips quirked upwards. "So, tell me about this "Rose". She said. "I could go on forever. But we don't have time. But speaking of Rose-" My voice drifted off as I pulled out the recorder and clicked it on. "She couldn't be here today so she wanted me to record our conversation. I know it sounds creepy but she just want to be able to analyze what you've said. She's good at that kind of stuff." I said with a smile.

"Anyways, back to why I'm here. I know that over 20 years ago you published an article about Lucius. Do you happen to remember it?" I asked. She shuddered. "How could I forget? That article is what landed me in this hospital bed." She said. My eyes widened. "What? What happened?" I asked. "I published the article about the Pheronixon a very long time ago. As you probably know, the Pheronixon is what landed Lucius in Azkaban." She said. "You remember what Pheronixon is?" I asked incredulously.

"I'm getting to that!" She snapped. "I don't know why, but Lucius wanted to obliviate the drug from my memory. That's why we started dueling. I'm not as young as I used to be. That's why I lost. He thought I was dead so he left. I was eventually found and now I'm here." She said. "Do you think you could tell me about the Pheronixon?" I asked. She nodded. "I had to do a lot of research for my article and even though I wrote it so many years ago I'll never forget any of it. Pheronixon is a branch of very dark magic. It's used in horrendous ways. When entered into the bloodstream it dries up the blood and you die a slow and painful death. The only good use for is was for medical purposes. After people found out what Lucius did all traces of the Pheronixon were destroyed." She said.

It took a few seconds for the information to sink in but when it did a lightbulb went off. "So, you're saying at this point in time, Pheronixon ceases to exist?" I asked. "Precisely. Though many of the ingredients to make it are still around. In fact, I'm fairly sure they only destroyed one of them. I think it was called Kylela. It was the most crucial ingredient and without it you can't make it. All of the other ingredients are used in other things besides Pheronixon. But not Kylela. It's sole purpose is for the Pheronxion. Without it you can't make it." She said.

Everything was coming together. I needed to get home to tell Rose. I stood up. "That's all I need. I really need to get back to Rose. Thankyou for everything. I apologize for my grandfather's actions and I really hope you heal soon." I said quickly. "You don't need to apologize for that man. It wasn't you fault. But I'm pleased I could help." She said with a smile. I reached over to shake her hand but she pulled me into a hug. "I really hope you kill the old bastard." She said. I laughed. "Me too. Oh, and Ingrid. If you could do me the favor of not telling anybody anything we talked about then that'd be great." I said. "You're secrets are safe with me." She said. I said goodbye one last time and left.

By the time I got home the sun was setting and the sky was painted magenta. I walked into the room Rose was in to see she was asleep. She still looked so fragile. When I had found her she looked worse than I'd ever seen her. She was purple. Literally purple. Her whole body was one big bruise. Even now when the bruises were fading I knew she was always in pain. One cut trailed from under her armpit down to the end of her ribcage. It took forever to stitch up because it was so wide. I don't know what he did to her but it only makes me want to find him even more. Deciding to let her sleep I kissed her forehead and sat down in the chair by her bed. I'd tell her everything in the morning. I'd tell her that the Kylela was the piece of the puzzle we had been missing. Things were going to be so much easier now.

Hey y'all! I'm so sorry I haven't updated in forever. I've had absolutely no inspiration to write. I had literally no ideas and just couldn't come up with anything. And I know that I usually don't split my chapters between POVs like this but I felt like I really needed to in order for things to work out. I think that this is my favirote chapter I've written in a while so I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. I love y'all so much. Remember to keep reading, voting, and commenting! XOXO
