The Search is On

My eyes were greeted by the sight of a vicious blood bath. My dad was laying in a pool of blood, his I.V. was ripped out of his arm so harshly that his vain was pulled out with it, his neck was cut just below his chin from ear to ear, one other man was dead as well.

I reached behind my back searching for the door knob unable to turn my head from the scene. I backed out slowly and ran into an officer. He wrapped his arms around me trying to comfort me. I placed my hands over my mouth, my eyes began to swell with tears, but  I still couldn't look away from the room.

"Come on sweetie, we have to get you out of here."

Jessie said as she grabbed my hand to lead me away.

We walked back to her place, and the whole way I never blinked or spoke a word. The sight was to much. Jessie sat me down on the dock, then took a seat beside me.

She sat there with me watching the sun disappear into the water in the disance. Just like my parents and I had when we heard the news about mom having cancer. Neither of us saying anything. It felt like I was back home sitting at the waterfront. I tryed to invision myself sitting on the bench back home with my favorite book in hand staring at the sunset, but I couldn't.

"Why?"
I whispered.

"I didn't hear you hun. What did you say?"

"Why?"

"I don't know."

"Now both of my parents are gone. What am I going to do?"

"You can stay here with me if you want to."

"Yea?"

I felt the rage begin to set in.

"Come on, lets get you into bed so you can rest. You look like you could use it." Jessie said helping me up.

"Rest." I repeated.

"Yes rest, we can figure things out later."

"Rest, later."

I couldn't form any sentences, my brain shut down, maybe I did need rest. I could sleep on it and maybe in the morning I could function. I laid on Jessie's bed and stared at the cieling for a while, I tried closing my eyes but they kept poping back open.

"I have to get him back."

"What was that?"

"I have to get him back."
I repeated.

"Get who back?"

"The idiot that killed my dad."

"He is dead hun, the cops shot him."

"He is not dead, and I am going to find him."

     Jessie looked at me confused.

"How?"

"I don't know, but I will figure it out."

"Do you want me to help you?"
She asked with excitement in her voice.

"No, to dangerous."

"Well, you can't do it alone, let me help you!"

I turned my head and looked Jessie in the eyes.

"You might die."

"So, at least I will get to see my mom again."

"Fine, you can help."

"Thank you, now go to sleep and we will figure it out in the morning."

Morning came quick and I was ready to find the jerk that killed my dad. The man in the room with him didn't do it, and the police never said that was the guy that killed him.

"Tatiana? Are you awake in there?"

"Yes,"

"Good, I made you some breakfast if you are hungry, bacon, eggs, and hasbrowns!"

"Sounds good."

I sat with Jessie and ate what I could, she made a lot for just the two of us.

"Oh, I have someone coming to help us out I hope you don't mind."
She said with a mouth full of eggs.

"Who?"

"You remember Justin from class right?"

"You didn't."

"Should I not have? He should be here any minute."

"I........."

*Knock Knock*

"Oh look, right on time! Come on in!"

Justin stepped in the door and I practically melted in my chair. There was no way I could stay focused with him around.

"Justin, you remember Tatiana right?"

"Yes, I do."

"Great! I figured we should have a strong man around just incase. Is that okay?"

"Well, he is already here, so I guess."

"I can leave if you don't want me here." Justin said.

"No, stay, you might come in handy."

I replied still staring at the buldging muscles already gleaming with sweat from the hot walk.

I had to stay focused on my plans. This was going to be tough.

"First, we need to get the story of what the cops know. Then we can go from there."
Jessie suggested.

Justin and I agreed at the same time and I immediately looked back down at my empty plate. After Jessie finished cleaning up from breakfast we began our walk to the police station a few blocks away. Jessie and I took the lead while Justin followed close behind to keep a watchful eye out.

It took us thirty minutes to get to the station. We walked in and asked for an officer that knew information about what happened at the hospital the day before. The secretary called for the sheriff to come up front.

"Please have a seat, he will be with you in just a moment."

"Thank you."
I said, trying to be polite.

We sat there waiting and I couldn't take my eyes off of Justin. Everything about him seemed so perfact, his eyes are what really got me. I had never seen any like them before.

The light baby blue color was amazing to me. When he looked at me, it was like he was looking into my soul.

"Excuse me, young lady? Im Sheriff Ryder, how can I help you?"
The officer said snapping me out of my drooling day dream.

"Im Tatiana Cook, my dad was killed at the hospital yesterday and I need more information about it. I was hoping you could tell me."

"Lets step into my office shall we?"

He lead us down a long hall to the last door on the left.

"Please have a seat."

"Thank you,"

"Now, what is it that you would like to know?"

"I dont know anything about it other than my dad was murdered. So anything and everything you know about the situation."

He began his story by appoligizing for my loss. Then went on to say they don't know who killed the men in the room, one of them was my dad, and the other was a cousin of ours that found out he was in the hospital through his wife, she is a nurse there.

They have a few leads and the room was being searched by forensics for fingerprints and  they could let me know more of what they find as it become availible. So I left my number for him to call me.

We stood and thanked the man for his time and walked out. Shortly down the road Jessie remembered something I said last night.

"So did you know the other guy was your cousin?"

"No."

"Than how did you know he wasnt the killer?"

"I dont know, lucky guess?"

I decided to go to the court house and do a little investigation of my own.

"How are you going to get permission to go in his office? Isn't it gaurded or something?"
Jessie asked.

"Yes, but I have an idea just follow my lead and don't open your mouth."

We walked in and were immediatly stopped by a gaurd.

"Name please?"

"Tatiana Cook."

"Judge Cook's daughter?"

"Yes sir."

"Go ahead in, and I'm so sorry to hear about your dad."

"Thank you."

"Well that was easy."
Jessie whispered.

"Shhhh."

I went into dad's office and looked through his files to see who all he sentanced to prison. I figured that would be a good place to start. Maybe one of them didn't like his judgement and wanted revenge.

Justin had a broad back so I spun him around and tucked the thin folders halfway into his pants and pulled his shirt down over them so we could sneak them out. Plus, I wanted to get a better look from behind him! We got everything I came for and rushed to my house. I insisted on going there just in case the jerk I was after would be stupid enought to show up.

Not to long into looking through the folders we heard someone messing with the lock on the backdoor. Looks like we have company.
