Oak trees.
Esme caught her breath and swivelled around to see the giant red creature gaining speed as it ran towards her. It's hairless body shined with sweat and his bloody mouth was open, every sharpened tooth showing. Esme understood why it was attempting to catch her, and it wasn't for a good reason. God, she thought. I am too unfit for someone who has been running their whole life.
Five years ago...
Esme sighed and blew out the nonexistent candles on her nonexistent cake. "Happy birthday... Fourteen today. Only four more years of this." she mumbled to the small rodent. Suddenly, she heard an incredibly loud ticking coming from the room below her. A smaller Aric (they can change size, but most Arixi prefer to be giant as it is the 'most powerful form') seemed to have noticed as well, and went down to investigate. As soon as the monsters footsteps stopped, a bloodcurdling scream was heard and Esme's little room shook. She stepped back. The ground beneath her feet rumbled. "Somebody...." Before she could finish, the rusty bars gave in and so did the cobblestone floor. Esme jumped over the hole, landing on a safe platform in the corridor. To her horror, after the damage had cleared, a giant black explosion could be seen below. And not just one. Every cell beneath her was gone. A message was carved in the black soot below her, very clearly: RUN ESME DIVION. RUN BEFORE THEY TAKE THE WATCH. Not thinking twice, she ran.
Present day..
Esme dodged a large drip of dribble that fell from the creature's mouth. "Gross..." She said quietly, wiping a small amount of the liquid off her blue hair. Esme was a strange looking girl; the first thing everybody noticed on her was the way her hair stood out too much. You couldn't miss it, even if you wanted to. Her short black leather jacket stopped at her stomach, with a plain gray shirt underneath, the shirt over her slightly destroyed jeans. Esme didn't care about looks, she just threw on whatever. After she was completely sure the Aric wasn't dripping disgusting spit anymore, she emerged from the rock she was behind and ran, her sights set on her destination. "GeT bAcK hErE litTLE GIRL!!" roared the beast. "Wanna say it louder?" Esme panted as she ran. "I think the other planets may have missed that!" Realising her mistake, Esme quickened her pace. Just as she reached a large oak tree, she heard a body crash to the ground. Whipping around to see what happened, she could just make out a tall figure standing at the top of the now dead Aric. "HEY!" She shouted at the top if her lungs. The figure looked at her. "HEYYY!!" She screamed. The person moved towards her. "Uh.. Hey.." They were close now. Crap thought Esme. It walked out of the smoky fumes of which was left behind when the Aric dissolved. She realised: it was a boy. A young man. A male. "Oi blue!" He replied. "Wanna say that louder? I think the other planets may have missed that!"
Esme crouched down and pressed a few buttons that were attached to the oak tree. Behind her, the guy from the Aric chase stood and watched. He wore a long black jacket with a blue collar, and black trousers. His shirt was just plain black. "I don't care about fashion" he said, as if he knew Esme was scanning him. "Wh...anyway, I'm only letting you in because it's dangerous out here."
"Okay Captain Esme!" His hand shot up to a salute playfully. "How do you know my name?"
"You're Esme DiVion! The girl who made the most dangerous creatures on Fiorre extinct. The girl who destroyed Vontac!" Esme looked at him, confused.
"Okay, first of all: I didn't mean to wipe out the Arixi. I was just born and then they died. At the same time." He looked at her. "Okay, at the same time I was born with the hair colour of their skin. Happy? And two: I didn't destroy Vontac, there were about 50 prisoners who blew up their cells to help people above them escape." He stared.
"You really don't know anything about that night." He said, his playful attitude completely disappearing. "It played out differently. Don't deny the fact that when you ran out of the prison, you left over twenty thousand people behind. Don't deny the fact that you leaving started a war to kill all Fiorians because one couldn't be trusted to obey. Don't dent the fact that you are the reason for so much destruction and so many refugees.. Esme DiVion, you can't tell yourself that you haven't brought Fiorre to the brink of complete extinction."
