After the death of his beloved John Laurens, Finnian never recovered and never married. He lived out his day exactly how he would when John was there:
wake up, make coffee and tea (the coffee was for john), play the piano, make and eat breakfast, head into town, write, and stay up until being convinced to go to sleep.
of course, since john wasnt there to convince him to sleep, he often didnt sleep at all. He actually developed night terrors that caused hin to develop insomnia.
