Bargained With The Devil
Jacks P.O.V.
Niamhy2810 and MelitaLove get your blankets ready, this is going to be a lot of tissue content. But I've warned you!
Roane looks at you through the glass, his eyes fixated at you and his sister. He isn't shaking, he doesn't even seem the slightest bit nervous, but from the inside he is a wreck, he knows that when it goes wrong, he will destroy the entire world of a handful of people, including himself.
You look at concern, while your friend is risking his life for your girlfriend. It just feels wrong, it feels so horribly wrong. But you know you can't stop him, you know how stubborn he can be. All he has to be now is careful, that's all you ask him to be.
His orange hair is as red as fire, slowly eating away the wood we give it, not fitting in the white room. His skin is as pale as the moon, high above the nightly sky, telling his clouds their direction, feeling home in front of the white walls. His eyes are as green as the skin of a dragon, shining and glowing in the light of our loved sun. His hands are as steady and cold as the northern ice, freezing every living creature that comes too close. What makes him the most beautiful is his character, the character of a teddy bear, sweet, innocent, protective and oh so cuddly. But his fur is thick enough to barricade him from any danger whatsoever. At least you hope so.
You clench the first hand you can find, which belongs to Felix. As you squeeze the life out of his hand, he softly squeezed back. His hand is steady, not wanting to show he is weak. Somebody has to be strong, for all of you.
You see how Roane turns his back at you, checks Y/N's heart monitor, makes sure her breathing is stable and then slowly injects Mark's blood into your beloved Y/N. You know this is for the best, but you can't help the feeling in your chest that something is bound to go wrong.
'I have now injected Mark's blood into Y/N,' he says in his earpiece, the box in front of you telling him what he says. For a good minute, his plan seems to have worked. You sigh in relieve as her monitor "beeps" on. He seems to sigh as a soft noise fills the speakers.
Suddenly, her heartbeat quickens. The beeps go faster, leaving less space in between. Her chest jumps up and down, her eyes are still closed, her body shakes, and when fear grabs you close all you can do is press your hands against the window and scream: 'Y/N!'
Two strong arms are holding you back and you know exactly that it is Felix. He is the only one who is strong enough to keep you from going in there, and besides, he is the only one stupid enough to try.
Roane immediately bows over your girlfriend, doing everything he can do save her while you cry into the shoulder nearest to you. The Irish American doesn't waste a word during his quest to save Y/N. And when he finally found her soul, being held by the devil, he offers his in return.
A sharp noise fills the room and jumps through the speakers, but Roane doesn't care. He continues saving Y/N, nonstop, while the other doctors know it is of no use. They know you can't bring back the dead.
As if Y/N wants to prove everyone wrong, her chest rises, her monitor shows a normal heartbeat again. Her mouth opens, but her eyes are still closer. For a second, you think everyone is going to make it out of that room, that god was on your side. But Roane has bargained with the devil, and the devil always takes something everyone holds dearest.
'NO!' you scream, still thinking that Y/N's body had gone limp, not hearing the monitor. Your vision is filled with sadness, blurred by tears, and all you can do about it is cry. Felix holds you even tighter; no one knows what's going on inside there.
Roane turns around to the window, revealing his entire chest soaked in blood. But all he can do is smile, his plan has worked, he has saved Y/n, and that's all he cares about. He feels how his veins start to burn, yet he manages to stay on two feet.
'ROANE! ROANE!' Rori yells, seeing how her older brother has given up his life for another. He can't die, heroes never die in movies, but maybe he isn't the hero after all? She bangs her fists against the window, but she doesn't go into the quarantine, she knows that she would only follow in death, and she knows that Roane would never forgive her if she did.
You stare at him, wanting to get in there and save him, but you can't. You simply can't. And as you watch how your friend has to hold on to the bed that isn't even his, you see how he reveals his masterpiece.
'We,' he voice fills the speaker before he has to catch his breath again 'we did,' he coughs, yet tries to let no one notice, though the little box isn't his best friend. 'We did it,' he says with a smile, before stepping aside.
'Hay Sean,' a voice you know too well says. Her big e/c eyes stare at you, through the glass. Roane has taken of his earpiece to give it to Y/N, because his words don't matter anymore. He doesn't have any last words, he doesn't have anything to say, and he just got this one last deed before he allows himself to retire for good.
You stare into the eyes of the one you love the most, almost forgetting that Roane is giving up his life for those few minutes. You smile, pressing your hands against the window. Everyone is silent; no one says even a single thing, as they are all speechless.
You wipe away your tears as you continue to stare at her, not believing that it is real. You need to touch her, hold her close, kiss her, now you know she is alright, but you can't force this much energy out of your drained body.
'Hay,' you say softly, knowing she can't hear you. Roane comes closer to your girlfriend, wrapping her left arm around his shoulders to help her stand. Her feet have forgotten how it is to be used, her eyes have forgotten how it is to see, and as her glance wanders everywhere, you can't help but smile.
Roane escorts your lovely lady to the door, opening it for her as soon as they are close enough. Y/n is so astonished of her own awakening that she doesn't even realize her dying friend. And when her feet touch the floor again, Roane whispers something to her, when her unsteady voice fills the box once more.
'Roane says that the illness can't spread through the air, so he requests help from Doctor Smith to get me out of here, and check me. Room 95,' she says and before anyone can hold him back, the doctor speeds through the plastic and makes sure to help Y/N get out of the quarantine.
Your love comes walking towards you, wobbling on two legs. She sees you, but doesn't make any movement hinting to the fact that she is about to run into your arms, she doesn't have the energy for it.
You watch how she comes closer, holding onto the doctor. Her skin is pale, and her eyes are dull, but she's fine. You smile at her, not wanting to break her bones as you would hug the living hell out of her.
She smiles back, tries walking towards you and all you can do is catch her. She wraps her arms around your neck, buries her face into your shoulder and cries, happy tears stream down her cheeks. You cry in response, soft, silent tears.
'You're awake. Oh I've missed you so much Y/N. Don't ever do that to me, never again,' you mumble as she cries nonstop. She smiles softly, releasing her weak body from yours. She doesn't even know half the horror that is going on around her. She can only focus on her happiness.
'I'm sorry sir, but we need to get her to room 95. We have to work fast here, someone's life is at risk,' Doctor Smith reminds you. You look at the glass, seeing how Roane is stumbling to get to the door. His eyes are some sort of washed away green; his skin is white and his veins swollen.
You knew there were consequences, you knew something was about to go wrong. You knew it, and yet you didn't do anything to avoid it, you could have saved him, but you just watched. And you have to live with that for the rest of your life.
'I understand, but be quick. I can't miss her for any longer,' you respond, wiping away the few tears that have fallen. He smiles at you, understanding how it is to be in love, before helping your girlfriend get to the other side of the building, far away from the terror and horror that is happening around her.
'ROANE!' Rori cries as she slams against the window. She isn't going to do nothing; she isn't going to watch another one of her family members die. Not again. She stares in disbelieve as her older brother turns the lock on the door, locking himself in the small room.
'SOMEBODY GIVE MY BROTHER A MICROPHONE!' She screams at the doctors. They watch in fear as she takes the speakers and starts to speak something, knowing her older brother can hear her, knowing her older brother understands.
'You said you weren't going to do anything stupid,' she cries and Roane turns around from the door, his chest still rising, slowly but surely. His hands are covered in blood, making the white door covered in spots. He turns to the glass, before he screams through the room.
'LOOK AWAY!'
Rori does as told, making sure she can't see her brother. Roane smiles at his sister, when the blood starts to drip from his mouth. He coughs furiously, his lips becoming a crimson red. He falls to his knees, turning his back at his sister.
As a small child, Rori stares at the wall opposite from the quarantine room/place. She covers her ears as her brother screams in pain, his body turning limper with every second. When finally, he falls into his own blood, he softly says: 'You can look now.'
He drags himself to the wall, laying his limp spine against it. His mouth, chin, neck, hands, everything from the front has been painted with red, and he knows how he looks. But he wouldn't forgive himself if he would let Rori stare at the wall in his last moments.
Though it would be impossible for Rori to hear her brother, she turns around, gasping as she sees her brother against the wall. She doesn't know how to react anymore; she doesn't know what she feels. She normally never feels this lack of air, this feeling of emptiness, this desire to scream. She doesn't show a lot of her emotions, because most have them she doesn't even remember anymore.
