Found Family (Chapter 1)
If you're here from the main book, hi! How are you? This is the official book for this story! So glad you're here.
Anyway, onto the story!
🗡💔🍔🗡💔🍔🗡💔🍔🗡💔🍔🗡💔🍔🗡💔🍔🗡💔🍔🗡💔🍔🗡💔🍔🗡💔🍔
It had been four years since your son was born. Four long and arduous years. Four years since you had been taken to Fraldarius territory and taken in by Rodrigue and Felix. Every day he looks more and more like his father.
More and more you fell in love with your found family.
Mercedes and Annette had known first. The three of you had stuck together at the beginning of the war. Soon, you started to show the telltale signs of pregnancy. Horrible morning sickness, cravings only Mercedes' cakes can satiate, and that baby bump that made you so insecure. It took a lot of reassurance from the two mages that you are stunning no matter what that made you feel better about it.
Annette had kept up correspondence with Felix. In passing and with your permission, Annette mentioned your pregnancy in one of her letters. A letter was then sent back to the ginger with extreme urgency.
It wasn't from Felix himself. It was from his father, Rodrigue Achille Fraldarius. He requested that Annette bring you to the Fraldarius house at once. He wanted to house you until you and your son were safe. Once you heard the news, you almost cried.
Your own house, the von (L/N)'s, had sided with the Empire once the war started. It almost felt like one of the most traitorous things they could've done. So to hear there was someone who wanted to take you in was such a relief. Annette wrote back as quickly as she could that you would be honored to stay with them and they will escort you at once.
The road to Fraldarius territory was not a pleasant one. Filled with bumps, rocky paths, and the occasional bandits that wanted to route your trip. The two girls accompanying you refused to let you fight but once they saw your prowess with the bow hadn't gone away, they allowed you to fight only IF the situation was very dangerous.
As soon as you got to your destination, Rodrigue met you with open arms. He assured you that he was going to help you and allowed you to cry into his shoulder as much as you needed to. Once your tears had dried you noticed a very shy Felix standing behind him. You smiled at Felix and he scowled and looked at the floor. He still made his way over to you. Rodrigue, hearing his sons footsteps approach, let you go so Felix could see you better.
Felix looked you up and down once and said:
"You look horrible."
If it was anyone other than Felix you would've been hurt by his words. Instead, you found yourself laughing at his blunt statement.
"Glad to know you still care about me even a little bit," you said as a slight blush covered the raven haired swordsman's features. You motioned for him to come closer and he did, albeit very slowly and shyly. When he was in reach, you grabbed his hands to place them on your stomach. Felixs' eyes widened and his blush deepened. He almost looked like he wanted to get away but for your sake, he'd stay. That's when he felt it.
"It moved, Y/N. Your stomach moved," he said with the weirdest tone lacing his voice. He was confused and freaked out and kinda grossed out and also strangely enamored? You laughed again.
"That's just the baby kicking, Fe. No need to worry," you smiled softly at him and looked at his hands still placed on your stomach. Felix nodded a bit in understanding. Rodrigue was watching this scene with an amused glint in his eye.
"Well, Y/N, Annette, Mercedes, little baby, why don't I show you all to your rooms?" Annette and Mercedes were confused by the older mans question.
"You want us to stay here too?" Annette asked.
"Of course! I'm assuming you want to help Y/N bring the baby along and I don't think she'd trust anyone else to help her with this future child," Rodrigue said and led the other two to their rooms. You and Felix didn't want to move from your intimate position.
You moved slightly closer to Felix to rest your forehead against his. He allowed the physical contact and closed his eyes.
Rodrigue showed you to your room which was close to Felixs'. Just in case you need anything, you can call for him, Rodrigue had said with a smile in his eyes.
After a few days, Sylvain and Ingrid came by. You didn't know who called them over but their presences were appreciated.
Sylvain took one look at you and knew. He had the widest smile on his face and couldn't keep his hands off your stomach. Ingrid had to swat his hands away from you when you looked overwhelmed.
Days turned to weeks turned to months. Ingrid and Sylvain would only leave in order to deal with things happening within their own territories.
It was one night over dinner that the vow was made.
You had all been eating, you much slower and much less than usual, that it was brought up.
"Hey, Y/N. I know this may be a tough subject but... You know who the father is, right?" Sylvain asked. You almost dropped your fork full of food. Once you regained your composure, you nodded.
"I... I do know," you said softly.
"If you're comfortable, do you mind telling us who it is?" Ingrid asked, her own voice matching your tone.
The name you said caused your three friends to panic.
"HIM? Are you CERTAIN that it's him?" Ingrid asked and you nodded. They all released a breath.
"Well... That's quite some shocking news, Y/N. As far as we know, he's dead to the world," Sylvain said and you looked like you were about to cry.
"I know but this child is one of the only memories I have of him left," your broken voice touched Ingrid and Sylvain. Ingrid held your hand tightly.
"Then let me promise you something, Y/N," this got you to look at her, your tearful eyes meeting her green ones. "I promise you that I will help you raise your child with you. I may have to return to my family every now and then but I will always return to help you." The waterworks started then. You allowed the tears to fall down your face and the uncontrollable sobs to escape your body without restraint. That caused something in Sylvain to click.
"Let me promise you the same, Y/N. Or something similar. I want to help you care for you and your baby. If you'd allow me the honor," Sylvain brought your other hand to his lips and gave it a soft kiss. You knew the redhead next to you is a skirt chaser yet his words felt so sincere. Felix spoke up a while after.
"I... I'm only going to say this once, okay? Let me help in any way I can," he said, making a similar promise to his two friends before him.
You looked in each of their eyes.
"Ingrid, Sylvain, Felix... Thank you. Thank you so much!" You fell into Ingrid's arms and sobbed for what felt like hours. Ingrid rubbed soft circles in your back and Sylvain still held your hand.
It was that night that you knew you found your family. For you and your child.
Then, that fateful day came.
You were in so much pain. You'd never felt anything like this before.
Annette had given you something to help with the pain as much as she could, thanks to Mercedes' guidance. If the blonde wasn't there by her side she would be panicking. Every cry or scream you let out shook her to her core. She couldn't bare seeing you in so much pain. That's why she was so relieved that she didn't really have to be in the room unless Mercedes needed her help. She was actually put in charge of watching your friends.
Sylvain would cringe every time you would cry out. He'd tighten his fists around his pants and tilt his head to the side. Ingrid had closed her eyes once it first started. Her head was raised towards the ceiling and her hands were clasped together tightly in her lap. Even Felix couldn't feign stoicism in this moment. Unlike Ingrid, his face was turned towards the floor. He was clenching and unclenching his left hand, his right was gripping his sword hilt. Annette had to remind them to breathe every now and again. It's almost like your friends could feel your pain. The ginger mage could her Sylvain mutter under his breath "If I could take your pain, I would..."
And then, it was over.
Your friends looked at each other about five minutes after your screaming had stopped. Sylvain was the first to move, wiping the sweat from his brow with his sleeve then moving to take Felix and Ingrid's hands. They all sighed when it seemed you were alright. Then Mercedes came out.
"I would appreciate if someone could come in here quickly. The birthing process is quite the messy one," the blonde said and Annette moved back into the room you were in. A few more minutes passed and Mercedes motioned for the other three to enter the room if they wished.
When they saw you holding your child, it all made sense.
You had this ethereal glow about you. Sure, there was some sweat still causing your hair to cling to your forehead but seeing you in that tender moment, they knew they must do everything they could to protect the two of you.
Another conversation had to be had.
Once you had healed from giving birth, Rodrigue entered the room and smiled.
"This is a sight I'd never thought I'd see again. You look just like Felixs' mother after she gave birth to young Felix here," Felix would've whacked his father for this but in order to not stress you out, he didn't.
"Now Y/N. This may sound a bit strange but... Considering the father is, let's say, out of the picture, it'd make sense to have a more believable story as to who the father is, yes?" Rodrigue had a point.
It couldn't be Sylvain. If the Gautier household heard he had a child and it didn't have a crest, there was no way that child would be allowed to stay with them. That and Sylvain really isn't a fan of his parents.
It couldn't be Ingrid. If her parents learned that she had a CHILD without being MARRIED... Well, the five of you feared the consequences she would face if they knew.
That left...
Felix.
Rodrigue was more than excited to play the role of grandpa, even if they child wasn't biologically his sons.
Felix was terrified. Even more so when you offered to let him hold your son. Mercedes had told you that you were having a boy. A sweet, healthy baby boy. As soon as you placed your son in his arms, he froze. He had no idea what to do. The baby started crying which made Sylvain laugh. Ingrid glared at the redhead.
"Felix, you've got to relax. He can sense you're nervousness. Maybe rock him side to side gently, please," you said in your sleepy yet happy state. Felix took your advice and slowly relaxed. Your baby noticed Felix untense and seemed to calm down a little. Ingrid's eyes were wide with wonder and love.
"Y/N, may I hold him?" She asked with the biggest puppy dog eyes she could muster.
"No, he's mine," Felix answered for you, holding your son closer to his chest. Sylvain laughed louder and Rodrigue chuckled a bit. It seems Felix had more than a few paternal bones in his body after all.
"Let her hold him, Felix," you commented. Felix reluctantly passed your son to Ingrid.
Ingrid held him firmly and sweetly. She smiled and hummed slightly while rocking your son back and forth. You smiled widely at the scene. It was absolutely adorable.
"Alright you two, my turn," Ingrid passed the baby to Sylvain. Sylvain held your son close to his head, resting his forehead on your sons much smaller one. He was smiling so genuinely, you could feel the happiness radiating off his body.
"It's grandpa Rodrigues turn," the older swordsman commented, allowing Sylvain to pass your child to him. Rodrigue cooed over your son for awhile before passing your son back to you. You smiled at him then promptly passed out once your son was back resting against your chest. Your son seemed to get the memo and fell asleep with you. The four remaining awake looked at you with such adoration and love.
The hair... It looked too much like his already.
Four years passed by since you gave birth to Lukas. Your partners had all taken to nicknames. Mama Ingrid, Daddy Sylvain, and Papa Felix. Grandpa Rodrigue was an obvious one. Auntie Annie and Auntie Mercie had to go back to their houses after you gave birth. They would still visit every now and again and would shower Lukas with gifts and love when they did.
One thing you loved about having three partners to help raise your child is if you wanted to try out any nicknames, you throw them at Sylvain. His favorites are "Darling, honey, handsome." Ingrid does like being called "Sweetheart, sweetie, gorgeous." Felix likes "Love." That's it.
Another thing you loved is how they helped you take turn caring for your kiddo.
Sylvain would wake up early with your son, making breakfast and playing with him in the garden of the Fraldarius house. They would play and cause such a ruckus. Lukas would come to his next parent with ripped pants and grass stained knees more often than not.
Ingrid would take him for lunch and some classes in reading, writing, and literature. She'd read him stories about knights and chivalry and sometimes he'd try to read with her. She would read a word and he would repeat it right after her.
Felix would steal him away to teach him how to use weapons. He'll only allow your son to use training weapons, never anything sharp and dangerous. He would also never spar against your son. He'd have sparring matches against your other partners or Rodrigue but only to show him how a real match would go.
You would take Lukas to dinner. After dinner was bonding time, where you would play piano or do something with Lukas to feel close to him. You would then help him get ready for bed. You'd bathe him then read him to sleep once he got really tired.
Sometimes, Rodrigue would hang out with your son. He'd bring him with the older swordsman to teach him about diplomacy and how to lead a house. He'd do paperwork with your son by his side who would draw adorable pictures on blank pieces of paper his grandpa would offer him.
A third thing you loved about your partners is how they cared for you.
Whenever Sylvain would return from playing with your son, he'd shower then climb back into bed with you. You more often than not would wake up with him by your side and fall asleep nestled in his arms. Lukas would wear him out with all of the playing they would do and he'd need a nap. Being able to hold you and wake up to you is a bonus. He'd clearly grown out of his skirt chasing ways. He was entirely devoted to loving you and your partners. He and Felix would butt heads more often than not but you'd see them making up during tea dates later.
Ingrid would always seek you out to bring lunch to you. She would drop off lunch with a little kiss to your forehead. If you two had alone time, she would comb and style your hair. You'd relax at the sensation of her fingers along your scalp, braiding and knotting your hair beautifully. She would hum a little song Annette taught her while she was visiting one day. Once she was done with your hair, she would wrap her arms around your chest and kiss the top of your head.
Felix would ask to spar with you sometimes. Only to make sure your skills haven't dulled because of your pregnancy. If you were feeling too tired and you were alone in your room... Lets just say you never would've thought he'd have such skills at massages. He's very deft with his hands using the sword, it makes sense that he'd be just as skilled at other things using his hands as well.
Every day, Lukas Damian Fraldarius looked more like his father.
His hair was a similar tone to his fathers. His eyes were a reflection of your own. He was like a perfect half and half between the two of you.
The question came out of the blue one day.
"Mommy? Why don't I look like Papa Felix or Daddy Sylvain?" Your heart dropped into your stomach. You felt your body freeze. Until reality sunk in and you dropped to your knees. Sylvain, who was with you, got down to your level and looked your son in the eye.
"That's a complicated question, kiddo," he answered in your stead. Your eyes were glued to a particular spot on the ground.
"I know they are my papas but I don't like either of them," Lukas didn't know exactly what he wanted to hear. It definitely wasn't you sighing sadly.
"My little one..." You said after a while and he met your eyes. "I... I will explain. When I was pregnant with you, your father... He was taken away. As far as I know, he's never coming back. I haven't seen him for five years. Felix, Ingrid, and Sylvain offered to help me raise you in his absence. They are your parents too, you know. They were here for me when I really needed them."
"And I promise, kiddo, we'll always be around to help your mother whenever she needs us," Sylvain reached his pinky out to Lukas who took his fathers in his own. It was a pinky promise. That was your families way of proving that the promise they're making is one they intend to keep.
Sylvain kissed your cheek softly and your son made a grossed out noise. Sylvain laughed before kissing Lukas on his cheek as well which made him giggle.
"Alright kiddo. Let's get you to bed," Sylvain wrapped Lukas up in his arms and carried him to his room. You went to follow him but he gave you a look that said 'Go rest, please. You need it.' So you sought out Felix and Ingrid.
The two of them were sitting together in the garden. They were having an intellectual discussion as they tend to do. Ingrid challenges Felixs' one track mind. It was a very beautiful thing to watch.
They turned once they heard your footsteps. The two of them had to take one look at your face and saw how tired you were. Ingrid immediately got up and ran to you, taking you in her arms. The stress you had been holding in was released in the form of tears. Your sobbing echoed throughout the garden. Ingrid drew patterns along your back with her fingers while Felix just stood there awkwardly not knowing what to do. When you finally calmed down, they sat you down and asked what happened. You explained the conversation you had with Lukas.
"I think you handled that really well, my heart," Ingrid said, affectionately calling you the nickname she knew you love. "That question was going to come around at some point or another and you answered really maturely. Did you tell him who it is, though? Who his birth father is, I mean."
"No, I did not. I do not know if I ever will. But... He looks so much like him. He's even taken an interest in the things he liked. He reminds me so much of him," you said, holding back more sobs.
"I understand. And considering his birth fathers current status, I sympathize. This is a terrifying situation. I'm so proud of you for handling it the way you did," Ingrid nuzzled her nose into your hair. "I adore you, my heart. You are so strong and brave. Please know, you'll never be alone. You'll always have Felix, Sylvain, and myself." You relaxed into Ingrid's embrace. Felix was not scowling, in fact, his face held softness and adoration for you.
Eventually, you fell asleep in Ingrid's arms. She laughed softly and carried you to your shared bedroom. She glared at Sylvain before moving to cuddle with you under the covers.
Someone had written a letter to Ashe. Maybe it was Annette. But a few days later he was at your door with someone at his side.
"Ashe!" You gave him a big hug while he laughed and returned your embrace.
"Y/N! It's been quite a long time! I'm glad to hear you're alright! And you have a son now, how is he?" Ashe asked, barely able to contain his excitement enough to introduce you to the person by his side. Their short black hair framed their face nicely and their green eyes were a deeper shade than Ashe's. They were stunning. The person in question cleared their throat and Ashe let go of you.
"Y/N, this is my... Partner..." Ashe got very embarrassed and couldn't finish introducing them.
"Evelynn von Augustine. It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss Fraldarius. You may call me Eve if you like," they held your hand out to you to shake and you did. Their smile was very soft and comforting. Their hands were the same.
"May... May we see your son?" Ashe asked, still very very excited. You laughed at his adorableness and his partner, Eve, chuckled.
"Please excuse him, he's weak around children," Eve commented. That made you laugh again.
"Mommy? Who are they?" Lukas appeared from behind you and you could hear Ashe gasp.
"Y/N! He looks like-"
"I know," you interrupted him before he could say and gave him a look. Eve understood what that look meant and whispered in their boyfriends ear.
"Oh... OH!" Ashe exclaimed quite loudly, bringing attention to himself a little. Eve nodded and pat Ashe on the back. Ashe got onto his knees to look Lukas in the eye.
"You must be Lukas! My, you're so big! How old are you now?" Lukas giggled and held up four fingers. "You're four! That's such a wonderful age! And you are so adorable!" Ashe lifted Lukas up into the air with his arms. Eve's eyes widened slightly but you laughed at this display. Eve was right, Ashe really is weak for children.
"How about you two go and have fun in the garden? I'm sure Ingrid, Felix, and Sylvain would love to see you again Ashe," the silver haired archer nodded and brought Lukas with him.
"It's nice to meet you, Miss Evelynn," you said.
"Please, just Eve is alright," Eve laughed softly and you smiled.
"Eve, yes. How long have you and Ashe known each other?"
"Hmmmm, three years? We've been fighting together for about that amount of time. Together for about two and a half. Girl, let me tell you, he's been wanting to have a kid. Being around Lukas is like a dream come true for him," you laughed loudly at their statement.
"Here, why don't we come inside? I'll treat you to some tea." The two of you went to the garden to watch Ashe, Lukas, Sylvain, and Felix. Ingrid came to sit with you both to have a conversation with the not chaotic ones.
Ashe was absolutely fawning over Lukas. The four of them were playing a game where they were passing a ball back and forth. Lukas would sometimes try to trick shot it into someone else's hands and Ashe would LOVE it every time.
You, Eve, and Ingrid were having a conversation over the state of the Kingdom and the war. You talked about how your house sided with the Empire so you knew you couldn't go back. You sung high praises of Rodrigue for allowing you to take shelter here. You spoke about how amazing your partners have treated you throughout this whole ordeal, never abandoning you or thinking of you as less than for your set of circumstances. Ingrid blushed and hid her face in your neck. Eve smiled at your adorableness.
"Oh Ashe is definitely going to ask me about children for the next few weeks I swear to Sothis," Eve groaned, holding their head in their hand while turned to watch Ashe and Lukas.
"I know how that is, my parents have been asking me to get married and have a child for years," Ingrid added and Eve laughed.
"Good, someone I can commiserate with," the raven haired mage, as you learned they are proficient in dark magic, sighed.
Eventually, the men joined you for tea and your son landed in your lap. The laughs you shared that evening almost made you forget all of your troubles.
That was the last of the peace time as you all knew it.
It marked five years since the promise you made to the Blue Lions. The promise to meet up at the monastery in a big class reunion. Seeing as there was a war raging throughout Fodlan, this really didn't seem to be the time to try to have a party.
Rodrigue didn't want Lukas to go. Or you, for that matter, but you were determined to go.
"Rodrigue, listen to me! I know things might be dangerous, but what if he's there? I need to know if he's alive! Please, father! Let me go!" You gasped and covered your mouth when you realized what you had just said. You called Rodrigue father. He looked taken aback as well. Then you saw a tear fall down his cheek.
"My... My daughter in law... Please... Return safely," Rodrigue wiped the tear that threatened to fall to the floor then pulled you into a strong hug.
"I... I promise, father," seeming to melt at you calling him father, Rodrigue only gripped you tighter.
You were packed to leave by mid day.
"M-mommy? Are you leaving too?" Lukas asked with his eyes full of tears. You dropped to your knees in front of him.
"Oh, my little one, I won't be gone for too long. I just have some unfinished business elsewhere. I'll be back before you know it," you kissed the tears away that were falling down his cheeks.
"B-but mommy, I heard it's dangerous! If there's danger, you can't go! What if you get hurt?" His voice was shaking and his lip was quivering with sadness.
"I won't be gone for too long. Only a little while. Please, be good for grandpa Rodrigue while I'm gone," you begged and held out your pinky. Lukas looked at you and linked his pinky with yours.
"I promise, mommy. Mommy, Mama, Papa and Daddy had better come back in one piece!" Lukas pouted and you laughed.
"I will, my little one. I promise."
The horses left mid afternoon.
The trek to the monastery wasn't peaceful. There were bandits and enemies of all kinds. Those who were capable of fighting were asked to. There were very few casualties and all injuries were healed quickly thanks to Evelynn. Ashe and Eve had stayed a few days in order to make the trek to the monastery together.
It took a few days, but you made it safely. Once you got there...
Everything was in shambles. Destroyed pillars, thieves everywhere, and a mint haired man and a blonde wearing clunky armor destroying those bandits like they were nothing.
"Is that... Dimitri? And the Professor?" You asked and Byleth turned to face you.
"If you're going to join us, do not get in our way," the blonde man you had assumed was Dimitri barked at all of you. You and your partners nodded and got into position to fight.
It took until sunrise but all of the bandits were cleared out. Pallardo, the leader, was as much of a coward as he was frightening to look at.
All of you reunited in the entrance hall to the monastery. It seemed that nothing was preserved, after the preliminary fight with the Empire, it was destroyed.
Byleth was stood next to Dimitri who looked much worse for wear. He had an eyepatch over his right eye. His hair was ragged and unkempt. He smelled of sweat, dirt, and blood. Whos blood? Hopefully not just his own...
Your eyes scanned around the group, looking for a sign, anything, that the man you spent all these years wishing was still alive was here.
Your heart sunk to the floor. You felt bile rising in your throat and tears threatening to spill from your eyes. Everyone besides Dimitri looked at you with concern as you fell to the floor, unable to hold in the emotions you've been bottling up all these years.
He wasn't here.
