JAYDEN'S P.O.V.
It's finally happening. We're graduating. We're leaving highschool. We're moving on and aren't looking back.
I should have done this last year but it didn't happen. I ended up in a mental hospital. But now, there's no stopping it. There's no stopping me.
What I don't appreciate is Ms. What's-her-name making me give the farewell speech.
My beautiful girlfriend helped me with it and it came out descent if I do say so myself. Then again, everything goes right with her by my side.
Standing on the stage, I had a quick moment. I don't want this to be just another farewell speech. I want this to mean something.
"...We've all come this far but this isn't the end. Some of us are going to college. Some of us aren't. Some of us still don't know what we want to do with our lives yet but that's okay. We can't figure it all out now. If we did, where would all the fun be?
Some of us will probably never see each other again. Some of us have made friends for life. But the important thing is that we grew. We learnt. We aren't the same as when we were freshmen. We evolved. But isn't that what life's all about? Constantly evolving?
I can't speak for everyone but I've been here for a full year and I've met some very amazing people. I've seen people become better and I've become better.
High school was a journey. On this journey, we've had ups and downs, highs and lows and a whole lot of other things. But someone special made me understand that it can be a tough journey but when you have the best of people who would take the journey with you, then it won't be so bad.
I don't know about anyone else but I found the love of my life in High school and she's the best thing that ever happened to me so I guess I have Winston High to thank for that as well. I love you, Alisha.
Thank you, once again for everything and I bid farewell to my Alma Mater, Winston High.
Thank you."
Everyone in the hall stood up in applause as I left the stage to take a seat beside my beautiful girlfriend.
"That was beautiful." She sighed, a tear in her eye and a smile on her face. The smile I never ever get tired of seeing. The smile come to love so much.
"I love you, Alisha." No matter how many times I say it, it won't ever be enough. Never ever. I wiped the tear away and gave her a quick kiss on her cheek.
Sighing, I intertwined our fingers and waited for the rest of the ceremony to be over.
It's today or never...
ALISHA'S P.O.V.
No matter how many times I say it, it's never going to be enough. I love Jayden.
We're finally graduating today and it was time for him to give the speech. I helped with it but it was more beautiful when he gave it.
He was right, we've been through a journey.
Highschool was a journey but luckily each of us found each other and helped make the journey more fun.
If someone had said to me a year ago that I would be here with an amazing boyfriend that I love and loves me just as much, my mom and sister by my side and my best friends in the whole world, I would have outright laughed in their face. But here I am now.
It's funny how life turns out great when we least expect it. We've been through so much together but I wouldn't change any of it.
Not one thing.
I started down at our intertwined fingers and a smile found its way to my face.
Eventually, the ceremony was over and they gave us our testimonials.
It's the last chance for people to do what they never had the guts to do before we graduated. I wish them luck.
Alessia and Nick their way to Jayden, Anne, Zarha, Zarha's elder brother, Tyler, My mom, Jade and I with goofy grins on their faces.
Sometimes, I really wonder what's going on between them.
We've finally graduated and we're free. I'm so happy, it's surreal.
That's how I should be but the fact that in just a week from now, Jayden is going away for a whole year is still a bit saddening.
But we agreed that we would spend the whole week together and we would talk everyday when he goes.
He also said he had a surprise for me when the ceremony was over.
Just as everyone was dispersing, Jayden called them back.
"Sorry, everyone. I have something to do and I want you all to be here when I do it." he sounded nervous and he combed his fingers through his hair.
He's definitely nervous. He only does this when he's nervous.
What's happening?!
He shrugged out of his gown and went down on one knee.
If he's about to do what I think he's about to do, I'm going to cry and I'm not going to stop.
He reached into the pocket of his dress pants and pulled out a small velvet box. I looked around me and everyone else was held in suspense just as I was.
He opened the box and what was in it took my breath away.
A platinum band ring adorned with with emerald and blue tanzanite stones lay in the middle.
"Alisha Natalia Ayomide Brown, will you do me the honor of marrying me and becoming my wife and the mother of my future children? From now till ever for as long as we both shall live?"
My heart stopped. I've forgotten how to breathe. My throat isn't working. I'm overflowing with joy and crying out an ocean.
Tears, hot tears are spilling and I can't stop them. I can do nothing but nod my head, my hands over my mouth.
When I finally found my voice, I spoke.
"Yes, Jayden. Yes, I'll marry you." I helped him up and he slid the ring on my finger, pulled me tightly against him and buried his head in the crook my neck .
I'd be stupid not to. I'm sure this is a decision that I won't ever regret. I see us growing old together and having tiny little babies. I see a future with him and I wouldn't have it any other way. He's making this possible and I just couldn't be more grateful.
"Thank you." I cried.
He claimed my lips in a sweet longing kiss.
When he pulled away, his eyes held mine and mine, his. Like we were the only ones that existed. Nothing else matters. Everything else disappears...
In his eyes, I saw us. I saw his love. I saw his happiness. I saw his past. I saw his pain and I love each and every one of those things because they're part of him. I love him.
JAYDEN'S P.O.V.
Looking into her beautiful green eyes, I can say for sure, I made the right choice. There's no better person to spend the rest of my life with than that one person who is the rest of my life.
Looking in her eyes, I see us. I see my future. I see everything we've been, everything we are and everything we could be. Everything. Together, and I wouldn't couldn't be happier it was her. It's always been. Always will be.
When I first popped the question and she didn't say anything, I thought she was going to say no. I don't think my heart could have been able to take it if she did. Luckily, she didn't. I know her very well so I knew she'd be speechless and do that thing where it's like she can't speak.
"I'm proud of you." My mom stated with a smile.
"Really? You're not gonna gimme the you're too young for such a decision speech?" I laughed as she wrapped her arms around me.
"She's it. I can tell." She snickered.
"So you're engaged to my daughter?" she joked.
"Yes ma'am." I smiled.
"Welcome to the family, son. If you hurt my daughter in any way ever again, I won't hesitate to break your bones, got it?" She smiled and so did I.
"Ma'am, yes ma'am." I mock salute and she kissed my cheek.
"He's a keeper." She smiled.
"Welcome to the family, future brother in law." Alessia smiled as I gave her a hug.
"Thanks, sister in law."
"My sister is really lucky to have someone like you, you know. I hope I'm just as lucky." she smiled.
"I think you already have, little one. I think you already have." I smile and shift my gaze to Nick. She follows my gaze and as soon as she spots him, a smile settles on her features.
"I hope so too." She smiled.
"You sly dog, you did it." Anne remarked and hugged me.
"Yeah."
"Congratulations, Jayden." Zarha squealed.
"Thanks."
"You guys are so cute. A match made in Heaven. I'm planning the wedding." She ranted.
"Talk to my future wife about it first." I smiled, drawing her to my side and placing a kiss to her forehead.
ALISHA'S P.O.V.
"It's been a wild day." I sigh, bouncing on Jayden's bed. We agreed that I'd spent the week with him before he goes away.
"Yeah, I can't believe I got engaged." He smiled and joined me in nothing but his boxers, giving me a full view of his mouth watering abs.
"Do you know why I chose that ring?"
"No, why?" I ask curious even though u may already know the answer.
"Your eyes."
"What?"
"Your eyes are green and mine are blue. The stones are together. So are we." he smiled.
"It's beautiful."
"Just like you."
"I love you, Alisha."
"I love you too, Jayden."
We spent the entire night watching movies on Netflix and just talking.
We have just one week together before he leaves and I want to make this week count.
***********
I woke up the next morning in his arms, held so closely to him and I sighed in content.
I quickly disentangled myself from him after a quick peck on his lips and padded to the bathroom to brush my teeth.
After brushing my teeth, I put on Jayden's boxers and sweat shirt and made my way to the kitchen.
I found a note his Jade left on the island.
'Had to leave in a hurry. Something came up. Will be back next week. I'll call you later. Enjoy yourselves, lovebirds.'
I smile at the note and place it back on the island.
I got started on breakfast. Bacon and eggs.
When I was halfway done, i felt Jayden's strong arms wrap around me and place a kiss under my ear.
"Good morning."
"Morning." I smile and turn to face him.
"How did you sleep?" I asked.
"Like a child." He laughed.
"You?"
"I slept next to you. What did you expect?"
I smile and get back to the bacon in the frying pan.
JAYDEN'S P.O.V.
I woke up with a kiss from my future wife. No matter how many times I say it, I still can't believe it. She's my future wife now. How lucky am I?
I got up and she wasn't there so I assumed she went to the kitchen and I was right.
She was in my shirt and boxers, making breakfast. There's something satisfying about seeing a girl in your clothes and making food for you. More so if that girl happens to be the love of your life.
I greeted her good morning and out normal banter began again. I wouldn't change a thing.
I found the note from my mom and smiled as we sat down to breakfast that consisted of Bacon, Eggs and Coffee.
"I'm gonna miss you so much." She said.
"I'll miss you, too." I really will miss her but this is something I have to do. I can't just ask her to leave college and forget everything she's worked so hard for so she can be with me. I'm not that selfish.
"Zarha wants to plan our wedding." I laugh.
"Why not?" she smiled.
That's actually not a bad idea. Prom was a blast and she planned it so she could probably do this too.
"We'll see." I teased.
"Sure, Hotshot." she rolled her eyes.
"You know it's not always going to be like this. We're gonna grow up and have kids and have responsibilities. We may not be able to have these moments as frequently as we do now." I said.
"Will we ever stop loving each other?" She asked.
"Not a chance." I smiled.
"Then well make it through." she smiled, taking a sip of her coffee.
