Rain Woman
Every night when it rained
She would put on her favorite dress,
Walk to the park,
And dance.
She moved fluidly,
With such grace that
It was almost as if
Her feet never touched the ground.
The girl circled around the fountain,
Her dress sticking to her every movements,
Until the pain in her feet
Became unbearable.
But even as her feet screamed in pain,
She resided in the spot that she stopped
And tilted her head towards the sky,
Letting the droplets drip down her face.
Everyone gave her puzzled looks;
Called her crazy,
Then walked away with a shake of their head.
Except for one.
Every night when it rained
He would bring his umbrella,
Walk to the park,
And draw.
His pencil moved effortlessly.
And with each sleek stroke,
He captured the graceful movements
That she made as she danced.
He captured her weightless feeling,
The way the raindrops became her music,
And all the emotions that
She conveyed in her dance.
He drew her outstretched arms
As if they were reaching out for something,
And how she looked up at the sky
As if she was looking for an answer.
But most importantly,
He drew what everyone else failed to notice;
The droplets of water running down her face
That were never once part of the storm.
