Chapter 7 part 3

"So you and Conrad huh?" I turned to see Megan coming into the bathroom.

She stood next to me gazing in the mirror. I watched as she ran her perfectly manicured nails through her slick black hair.

"I can't believe the winter dance is next week," She chirped, attempting conversation again. I glanced at her, drying off my hands.

"Yeah, and I don't even have a date." Her expression changed, as she awkwardly glanced at herself.

"What about Conrad, you know, I kinda thought," I cut her off, my anger getting the best of me.

"He is going with shya," I shot at her, her perfect eyebrows rising in alarm. I felt ashamed at my anger right after I had lashed out on her. Megan has done nothing, and she might think I am going crazy.

Megan left the bathroom a second later, and just as she vanished, a stall door cracked open, and a pair of ice blue eyes peeked out.

I would recognize those light pools anywhere.

Allison

"Go ahead and make up all the lies you want," I blurted, already knowing the wheels were turning in her head. She opened her mouth and shut it again, playing innocent.

"I,  I was just using the restroom." She walked out, checking herself in the mirror. She glanced at me, her smile more fake then her attempt  to play nice.

"Nathen, He asked me to the dance, he only had eyes for me." She grinned, her smile so ruthless, I took a step back.

"Stay away from him, or I swear I will brake you." I nodded, forcing a snicker, I was not scared of her, and why should I care, but my mind drifted back to when he stood so close to me, his eyes so focused on only me.

Why should he want me when he has her.

"I don't care about him," I lied, brushing past her, my eyes burned, how much more of this could I take. Surely I never signed up for this, I never even wanted Conrad, let alone Nathen, but then why did the stab hurt so much?

I stocked out of the school, not caring that I was bumping into people. I wasn't paying attention to where I was going, until I slammed into a hard chest.

"Um, S, sorry," I barely spoke, not wanting to see who I had bumped into. Some reason all I wanted to do was go hide away with Nathen, some reason when I was with him, I was content. However he didn't care about me, and he had made that clear at breakfast. I had caused him anger because of Conrad, and now our friendship was over.

"Are you okay," I was stopped in mid thought by that voice. Everything came piling down on me as I lifted my head to meet those deep gray eyes, his hands still placed gently on my shoulders. It was like an invisible magnet when our eyes connected, all my thoughts spiraled into nothing as I focused on this moment, and the way his hands felt so perfect on my shoulders.

Calm down, he does not care about you.

"N Nathen," I declared his name, attempting to form words, that just did not seam to come. What had happened to me. He looked so calm as he gazed at me, his feature so still, he was a Greek god, and this piece of art was right in front of me, living and breathing.

This piece of art was not mine.

"Yes, it's me," he chuckled, removing his hands from my shoulders much to my distaste. His voice was so smooth, like silk, his eyes so deep and mistic.

"I better go," I choked out, suddenly feeling shy as I prepared to leave. However he had a different plan as he took a hold of my arm, stopping me in my tracks.

"I need to talk to you," he voiced sending my mind into panic mode. What did he want?

"About what," my tone came out more brash then intended. Nathen leaned against the wall of the bus station, watching me.

"I understand that you are competing," I cut him off with my next statement.

"How did you know? And why does it matter, he is nice, not like you made him seam." I shot him a testy glare, not daring to take the spot next to him. Nathen heaved am airy breath, his jaw clenched.

"Are you blind, and I have my ways," he muttered, leaning back and adjusting his position, with his movements, he managed to get closer to me. "Sit down, I'm not gonna do anything."

I crossed my arms, making a statement not to listen, he was not the boss of me. "I rather not," I spat, burning my eyes into his. To my surprise Nathen chuckled, leaping up onto his feet.

"Then you leave me no choice," he declared, and I could hear the grin in his voice. Before I could do anything, Nathen scooped me off my feet, and tossed me over his shoulder. Something that had never happened to me before.

"W what do you think you are doing? I cried out, slapping his lower back, he said nothing as he took of, me on his shoulder. "Nathen, I swear, what do you think you are doing, stop this instant." He made no effort to slow as he whipped around the corner, tearing through the open fields.

Sun peeked through the clouds, shining against my back. I couldn't believe it was still sunny.

Without warning, I was placed down in the grass, open fields spinning around us. Nathen collapsed next to me, a lazy grin on his face.

"Why do you look so happy," I wined, laying back in the grass, and savoring the rays that beamed down on me. Nathen did the same, gazing up at the bright sky, dotted with puffy marshmallow clouds. "You didn't have to carry me all the way here, I would have just sat down there."

"I wanted to go where nobody could hear us," he admired, turning to look at me. I propped myself up on one elbow, taking in the feeling of the sun, as it roasted my back.

"Well I doubt we could get away from Alice, she sure seams to," I trailed  off after I had realized what I was saying. He likes Allice, and I didn't want him to think I was a gossip.

"What about Allice," he sat up, turning his stone expression on me. I shifted, my mind screaming for what to say. I had gotten myself into a hole.

"She, well, you know, likes you, so she would follow you." I was such a liar, but talking of others misdeeds to other students was not allowed, we could only talk to staff about things that concerned us. When someone talked about gossip, that was a different story.

"I have a feeling you made that up," he chuckled, pulling me up to my feet. "Anyway I have something to tell you, don't trust him, I get it, he is intriguing, but don't trust him." His took a step back from our closeness, like I said, he can't tell me what to do.

"Don't tell me what to do, I can trust whoever I want, and I bet you are just jealous," everyone had been talking about Conrad and I all day, and you know what, I was tired of it. "It's none of anyone's business of me and Conrad, I don't need everyone talking about me."

Nathens expression didn't change, he forced his gray orbs away from me, staring off in the distance into the trees that so delicately aligned the sky. These fields stretched on for miles, piled with crops that the farmers would come harvest, most of them third class.

"You most definitely don't need people talking about you," he concluded, starting to walk deeper into the fields. I trailed after him, not knowing what brought me to do so.

"Why do you care so much about who I associate with," I hollered, catching up to him. He didn't turn to face me, instead he walked faster.

"You might want to get back before they notice that both of us have vanished."

Without saying anything I made my way back, one thing on my mind.

Something was between Conrad and Nathen, and I was going to figure it out.
