Chap 10 p 1
Conrad and Nathen were silent as we walked back to the council building. My father was chatting in hushed tones with the president, but his eyes kept swinging back to me.
I kept turning back to the feeling I had had with Nathen minutes ago, as I thought I could get out of this mess of a country I lived in. There was a place outside of here, and Nathen wanted to find it.
I could feel the cool leather that was buried in the inside of my dress, thank goodness nobody had seen the bike that had been hidden within the brush.
"I can't really have my girl sneaking off with other men now can I," Conrad's voice seamed distant as he spoke, matching strides with me, my heart jumped at the Discovery that he had called me his girl. Nathen didn't join with us, instead choosing to walk alone, but I knew he was listening into what we were saying.
"I'm not yours yet," I muttered, turning my Emerald eyes to meet his blue ones. Conrad's lips turned up into a smile, I found myself unable to look away from him.
Pull yourself together Drew
"Why don't we change that than," his words were unable to register in my mind before he did something I would have never guessed in a million years.
We had barely made it to the edge of town, but there were plenty of people, Conrad made sure everyone was watching, as his fingers brushed against my chin, he lifted my head, his eyes crashing into mine.
Before I could think, Conrad's lips connected with mine, so soft, they molded perfectly into mine. I reacted to the kiss, moving my lips against his for a split second before he broke away.
"Everyone, Drew is no longer available, I have her in mind," Conrad shot a wicked grin at Nathen, who's expression didn't change, he stood there, his gray eyes masked as he studied me, impassive as always.
Why didn't Nathen care, I had spent the whole day with him, but when we were back with everyone he acted as though we were strangers.
Why did I care what he thought, Conrad had just kissed me, yet my mind was on Nathen. I had felt sparks in that kiss, surely I had, but why hadn't it been everything I had dreamed of?
Conrad pressed a gentle kiss on my cheek, wrapping an arm around me as we continued our trek, my father was beaming, proud that his daughter had made it with the elite. He only cared about who I ended up with, and I guess I was passing his test. I guess I no longer had to worry about being disowned.
"I have reserved rooms for us at the hotel in the top floor," Conrad stated as we neared the council building, I glanced up, shooting him a grateful smile.
My father came up to me a few minutes later, when we were seated in the waiting room. His expression was unreadable, I watched as he placed himself in a chair, composed as always.
" why must you run off with Nathan when you have Conrad?" I refused to look at him, as I chose instead to fiddle with my fingers. I know I would be getting this confrontation sooner or later. My father could never be happy with what I did no matter how great it was.
" Nathan and I are only friends," I muttered, leaning my head against the back of the chair. The waiting room was pretty vacant, aside from a mother and her daughter who sat on the other side of the room. Conrad had disappeared with Nathan and his father leaving me alone with this monster of a dad.
" you have everything we ever wanted for you, yet you are dissatisfied." My father slammed his hand down on the chair, causing me to jump in fright. " you almost ruined your chance with him, don't you know you will be the talk of everyone's gossip." I held my tears back, I didn't want him to see the affects he had on me.
"I'm sorry father, I can't help the fact everyone likes me," I bit the bottom of my lip, trying to shield my expression.
I'm sure you are, I need to get back to work," he stood up abruptly, leaving me to my thoughts. I leaned back, my head against the wall, shutting my eyes, I slipped into paradise.
I would love to run through a feild and be free, with no where to be, and nobody to impress.
If only there was a paradise, and place I could go away from here, the book still sat against my skin, those words that had been printed on the page, finding paradise.
