"What makes you think I will allow you to just walk away from our long standing agreement?"

Edwardus clenched his teeth. The prime minister was really starting to grate his nerves.

"I take orders from no one, least of all you. I'd be careful if I were you. Disrespecting a royal never ends well"

Edwardus saw Rose go still at his words. He couldn't blame her for being tense. The tension in the room was so thick it was almost stifling.

"All I'm saying is, a deal is a deal your highness"

"Why would you wish a loveless lonely marriage on your daughter?"

"You and I both know love doesn't always factor into royal marriages"

Edwardus scoffed and walked away to the mini bar to pour himself a drink. He uncapped the bottle and started pouring the liquor which he almost spilled when he heard Rose pose a question to the older man.

"Is that something her mother would have wanted for her? Considering how it turned out for her"

He saw the prime minister go still and the princess took a threatening step towards Rose.

"Don't talk about my mother you tramp. Edwardus you need to put your bitch on a leash. This is not something I'm going to put..."

"Enough child!"

They all turned three equally surprised faces to stare at the prime minister.

"If I walk away from this deal. What do I get out of it?"

"You can't be serious!" Princess Tabitha exclaimed

Everyone ignored her and stayed focused on her father.

Edwardus glanced down at Rose when she quickly looked up at him after hearing the man's question.

"The island is yours. Yours to rule as you see fit. Yours to name as you would want. You would be the king of your island.

When he saw the mans eyes go as round as saucers he knew he had him then. All he had needed was a distraction which Rise had given with that question that she knew would hut home for him.

God I love my woman.

"I accept"

"No you don't! What about what I want? You knew I've always wanted to marry Edwardus! I won't let you my own father nor you tramp take this away from me"

"You will be escorted out of the palace if you don't keep that tongue of yours in check. Your language is really unbecoming of a royal."

When the woman huffed and stomped out of the room, slamming the door behind her. Edwardus turned back to the prime minister, expecting to see him upset but instead the man looked tired and relieved.

"I apologize for my daughters behavior. I'm afraid I must blame myself. I've always given her whatever she wanted. You see I always wanted to make up for her not growing up with a mother. I wanted to keep her happy. I'm afraid it did more damage than good. Truth is the moment I saw you with miss Rose tonight. The way you looked st each other reminded me of a love I had so long ago. I've always refused face to face meetings with you because truth is I never disliked you. Yes you were a bit of a wild child but you and your family have always been fair to us. I guess I let the love for my only child cloud my judgment. I apologize"

"I accept your apology"

"Thank you. I will be in touch so we can sign off on our new deal. Good luck to the both of you"

Edwardus was taken by surprised when Rose threw her hand around him in a tight hug right after they were left alone in the room.

"You were so amazing. You're going to make a great king"

"Coming from you that's a high compliment. I couldn't have done this without you my love. You are going to make an amazing queen"

"I agree"

They turned at the sound of the queens voice in the room. She walked into the room hand in hand with the king.

"You were born to be a royal. You will rule alongside my son perfectly. I have no worry in the world that you two will do marvelous things. I have to say thank you for putting a smile on my children's face. Elizabeth absolutely adores you. And I've never seen the sparkle in my son's eyes until you came along"

"Thank you your Majesty"

"No my dear it is I who needs to thank you. I hope you can forgive me for the way I was when we first met"

"Of course"

He watched as his mother pulled Rose into a friendly hug. He mouthed the words thank you to his mother as he watched their exchange. While they walked away talking about the baby and needing to have a wedding soon, Edwardus stayed and recapped his meeting with the prime minister to his father.

"You've done good for yourself with that woman"

He turned to look at Rose, her face alight with happiness as she held hands with the queen while they spoke on the other side of the room. She turned and threw him a smile over her shoulder before turning back to his mother.

"I agree dad. She's an amazing woman. And her daughter is such a humble and lovely child. They welcomed me into their lives with opened arms even though I didn't make it easy. I knew she was something special when I first met her. After she ripped apart a check I gave her with over three million dollars I knew I was in trouble. She's hard not to love"

"Threat her well. Make your family happy and you will in turn be happy. Don't make the same mistakes I did"

He pulled his father into a hug. Tears pricked his eyes because it had been forever since him and his parents so openly showed affection. Leave it to a small town doctor to show them how to love creeping her way into his life and winning over not only his heart but the hearts of his family by the looks of it.

He pulled her to him as she walked back to his side with his mother. He saw his father pull his mother to him and kiss her temple and he in turned did the sane with Rose earning him one of her heart warming smiles

So this is what happiness feels like.
