Chapter Eighty
The second Thea rose from her sleep she could already feel the panic setting deep within her chest. It had taken only a few moments for her to ponder the reason behind her immediate panic before it had hit her.
Today was the last day of July and a detailed plan had been put in place to help ensure the protection of Harry as the group wanted to be sure that the Dark Lord and his followers wouldn't attack the group. That was why the Order of the Phoenix would be escorted the boy themselves. They had lost all faith in the Ministry so using the Floo Network, portkey or even apparition was out of the question. So it left only one option.
They would be traveling by broomstick during the night.
Thea herself had helped to create the plan but was dismayed when she wasn't included in the plans. She wanted to protect Harry just like anyone else did but Mad-Eye Moody still excluded her from the plans, claiming that she would be needed if any Auror business should arrive.
July had rushed by too quickly, filled with Thea becoming increasingly busy as the Dark Lord and his followers seemed set to make the world a miserable place. The planning for the wedding of Fleur Delacour and Bill Weasley had also been conducted throughout the month. Thea had expressed her desire not to attend quietly to Mad-Eye Moody and Tonks. It wasn't anything against the bride and groom to be, it was more about the people she knew would be there. However, Mad-Eye Moody had clapped back, declaring that she had to go anyway because of her skill as an Auror in case the wedding was attacked for whatever reason.
However, as the end of July had crept closer, Thea found herself worrying. She, of course, had complete faith in the order but she couldn't help but feel like something was going to go wrong. She had bitten her nails down to quick and had begun to pick at the skin around the outside of her fingers before Elliot had grabbed her hands and threatened to charm mittens to stay on her hands and after that Thea had quickly stopped that nervous habit.
But now Thea found herself with an entire day on her hands to fill. She had told the other Order members that she would arrive in the Burrow in the evening after the hopeful successful mission had taken place. But she didn't have anywhere to be. Suddenly, an idea formed in her head as Thea quickly went about her morning routine before apparating out of the apartment she now owned, finding herself in a dainty kitchen, a view of the sunny beach out of the window. Juxtaposed with dreary England which seemed to have a layer of fog cover the cities every day, it was a stark contrast between the two, this place was like a paradise.
Thea quickly looked around, searching for any side of life. Once she heard small footsteps entering the kitchen that she stood in, Thea spun around not expecting such a reaction from the person behind her.
"What are you doing in my kitchen!" The voice had shouted before jumping in the air, the plates she was carrying flung into the air, letting out a cry of shock. "Thea?"
"Hey, Matilda. Long time, no see, huh? I did wonder what happened to those letters I was supposed to be quickly getting every week."
"Thea!" Matilda cried still in shock. "You look so different, so mature and tall. And you cut your hair! I almost didn't recognize you."
"Yes, that was clear by you jumping five feet in the air and the smashed plates," Thea said dryly, bending over with her wand, uttering a spell as the plates fitted themselves together before flying over to the sink. Although she always seemed to be saying this, but Thea really did love magic.
"Oh, thank you," Matilda said. "I suppose you are here to see your parents."
"Or even get an update on how they are doing because you know haven't received one of those in several months," Thea replied.
"Listen, I am really sorry, Thea. I kept meaning to get back to you but I'm quite busy you see-"
"Yes, I know taking care of my parents! Now please tell me where they are so I can see their current condition with my own eyes instead of it being weakly described in a letter." Thea said, striding off throughout the house, leaving Matilda standing in her wake.
"I remember when she was the rowdy little nerd who often sat on the couch a book on her lap before arguing with her mother the next second, how and when did she become such a badass?" Matilda asked herself before following Thea out of the kitchen.
"Hi, Mum and Dad," Thea said looking down to her parents who sat under a giant umbrella sitting on the beach.
"Thea." Anne Diggory said, noticing the girl but her eyes didn't flicker up to meet her daughter's remaining fixed on the waves that crashed against the beach.
"Yeah, that's me. How are you guys?"
"Fine." Amos Diggory replied quickly, his eyes also not meeting his daughter's.
Thea knew the reason for this of course. She reminded them too much of her brother but that didn't mean that it didn't hurt.
"That's good!" Thea said brightly, sitting down in the sand beside them, telling them all about her life currently and as much Order knowledge as she could without risking the information falling into the wrong hands. Although Thea highly doubted the Death Eaters would believe anything that her parents would say. Thea knew that her parents probably didn't understand a word she was saying but it felt good to tell them.
As the morning slowly turned to evening, Thea knew she couldn't stand it anymore she had to get to the Burrow and work out what was going on. And after all it was clear that her time was up, her parents needed a break.
Matilda guided Thea out of the house, promising to write to her while assuring her that she was welcome at any time.
"Thank you, Matilda." Thea said warmly. "I'm sorry for blowing up at you earlier."
"Don't worry about it, Thea. I'm sure you are nervous about the whole thing. But please stay safe, Thea. Some of the work you are doing currently and the danger you are in is enough to send anyone into a heart attack."
"Don't worry about me, Matilda. I'll be safe but don't forget about yourself. Look after my parents for me."
"Of course, Thea."
