Donnie's P.O.V
We were still in first hour, listening to Mrs. Gem lecture to us about the use of proper grammar. Trinitie was holding onto my hand, both of them resting on my knee. I looked over at my brothers and smiled at how different they are. Raph was leaning back in his chair, looking like he was about to fall asleep. Mikey was currently entertaining some girls at a nearby table by drawing random doodles of them and showing it. Leo was staying at strict attention, his back perfectly straight.
A couple of guys were looking at Leo and snickering, but catching my glare, they quickly stopped. I was just daydreaming, already knowing exactly what she was talking about. I looked at the windows and smiled. I didn't have to hide any more. I can see real sunlight now, and not the brightness of a bulb.
I could be normal. I could let Trinitie have an actual life. A human life.
I let these thoughts slip my mind as I played attention once again.
"So, lucky you, there is no homework tonight." A sigh of relief went through the class, the loudest from Trinitie, as she smiled over at me, playing with my fingers. I gave her hand a reassuring squeeze as we packed our things, only minutes left in the class.
Everyone chartered around us about regular things: Gossip, dogs, the hottest celebrity bands. I roll ed eyes and looked over at Trinitie once again.
"Which class are you most excited for?" She asked me, and I thought about my schedule.
"Band." I answered simply. She looked confused.
"I didn't know you guys could still get in band. Have you even tried playing an instrument?"
"Uh, no. But I looked it up, and have gotten the general idea." I explained nervously, a probable pink tinge on my cheeks.
"Wait... Since we all have the same schedule, then all of us have band. I'm pretty sure she will accept you. I play the trombone. I need to know what everyone is going to play."
I nudged Raph, who looked over. His sudden jerk made Leo and Mikey look over as well, wondering what the deal was.
"Band is in a few hours. We have to have something to play. Name something." I explained, and they thought. "Clarinet." I finally said, and saw that Raph was about to make a remark, but I held up a finger. "Don't even start." He chuckled and said,
"Percussion." Trinitie raised an eyebrow. He looked offended. "Donnie isn't the only one who looks up things in his spare time."
"I think I would like to play.. Saxophone." Leo stated, looking proud of knowing the official name. Trinitie looked skeptical.
"It's hard to learn all the keys. You're going to have to practice. A lot." She informed him, and he smiled.
"I accept the challenge."
Raph ran a hand down his face and murmured,"Nerds."
"I wanna play the trumpet!!" Mikey exclaimed, chirpy and loud. Maybe a little too loud, because a few eyes glanced over at us, and the girls Mikey was entertaining earlier giggled. He smiled sheepishly. "Carry on, dudes and dudettes." More giggling.
"That's easy. The fingerprints e the easiest, but it's the pitch you have to get. That's what I was going to play, but my mom said it was too loud." She made a mocking face and giggled. I laughed with her, and the bell rang.
We picked up our things and headed out the door into the flowing crowd of students, Trinitie leading the way. She led us outside into the cold January air. It instantly numbed mug nose with its temperature, and I smiled at the sun. There was snow all over the ground, glistening where the sun rays hit.
There was an old looking building over by the new gym. The white paint was peeling off in several places, and it was my kind of place. Walking in, the doors creaked in protest and I was met with the unmistakable smell of metal and undeniable sense of friendship.
Curious glances looked over at us before an eruption of cheers rang through the huge room. Trinitie smiled at them all, saying her hello's and returning hugs. Throughout this, thought, she never let go of my hand.
"Girl! I've missed you! Don't evah disappear like that again!" Exclaimed a girl who stayed behind to talk to her. Most of the masses were girls, some were guys. Whoops and hollars were heard, and she blushed bashfully.
A stick straight lady made her way over to us all, looking for what all the commotion was about. Her eyes scanned us all, before finally landing on Trinitie. The lady surged forward and a bright smile hugged her facial features.
"Trinitie! I am so glad that you have returned! The only part is that you missed the whole marching season." She looked over sadly. She turned to us then, a pleasant twinkle in her eyes. "New students?" She asked. We nodded. "What instrument would you like to play? I know that you're homeschooled, so you probably haven't even touched an instrument."
We told her our choices, and she nodded, walking in the other direction. The sound of melodies and counter melodies filled the air, along with random splatters of an obnoxious sound. I glanced around. Of course it was from the trumpets. With Mikey over there, it will be even louder.
She handed us the cases to the instruments and a piece of paper to write our names and case numbers on. Mine was #43. "It is so we know which ones we loaned out.." She explained, and I nodded once more, along with all of my brothers. Raph was looking at his mallets and drumsticks with a smug smile on his face, probably ready to beat a drum. "Oh, yes. I am Mrs. Rodrick. And, boy," She pointed at Raph, who looked up quickley. "Do not break my drums. I will have someone who knows your instruments teach you the basics first."
She told us where our seats were and went to stand at the front of the room. It instantly went silent when she put her hands up for it, and I paid attention. There was to be a spring concert, which means that we would be getting our sheet music for all of the pieces today. Papers were passed down the rows, and I took it, examining the notes.
I was able to read it quite well, since I have looked into how the classes were. It was not simple, but it wasn't very hard either. I was sent to a small practice room on the side to learn how to play the instrument with a girl named Ciri. It sounded like the one voice on the Iphones name. Huh.
"Okay. I guess we could start with simple fingerings, and how to hold the instrument." She said, and I held it up, letting her know that I already knew. She nodded, smiling at me. I was the only guy playing the clarinet.
"I looked it up before I came here, so I know most of the fingerings." I expalined and she looked particularly relieved.
"Good, because I'm not very good at helping and explaining things." I chuckled.
Her hair was a light orange, and only a few freckles lined her face. She was about Mikey's height, and was dressed in black leggings and a blue sweatshirt. From the worn out look of the sweatshirt, it looked like she wore it alot. She had normal green sneakers on her feet, and a permanent bright smile on her face.
Her eyes were a sparkling brown, which looked as if they had seen so much wonder and mischief. I immediately liked her as a friend, like a sister. I think we would get along just fine.
"Do you want to just play the pieces? I think I've pretty much got them down.'' I asked, and she nodded appreciatively. We played through the songs easily, laughing when my instrument squeaked. Which was almost every five seconds.
We were laughing a little bit when someone knocked on the door, telling us that it was time to go to the next class. We packed up our things, and I decided that I was going to take my instrument home to practice it if I had time.
I grouped back with Trinitie and my brothers, and we chattered about nothing as we went to math. I put the case containing my instrument as we passed my locker, and Raph was talking excitedly to Leo about what he got to play.
"Its called the snare. Its really really loud, and I get ta play it during the concert." He explained, and I smiled, seeing as they weren't in a staring war.
"Well the trumpet is REALLY COOL!" Mikey shouted, throwing his arms I to the air. "It's loud, and easy to play, and I can annoy others with it." He looked particularly giddy about the last one, and I sighed in relief seeing that he left his instrument there.
"Well, saxophone is best. It sounds cool and jazzy, and its louder than a clarinet." He said with a smirk. I rolled my eyes and Trinitie glared at him.
"All instruments are equal in the world of band and it doesn't matter if it's louder. You guys still don't have the melody. Clarinet have their own song."
It was true. We had a piece called, A World Full Of Clarinets. It was pretty cool, and clarinet carried the melody throughout the whole thing. We were getting close to the building as we had been hurrying quickly across the grass when suddenly Trinitie stopped short beside me, staring at her phone.
Everyone else ceased walking too and looked at Trinitie in concern.
"My dad wants to meet now. He says he doesn't have time, and that we need to hurry." She explained, worry in her eyes. This was one of the things I loved most about her. She was quick to forgive and forget, always thinking of others. "I'm so so sorry that we've got to leave early."
I shrugged. "I'd follow you anywhere at anytime." I told her truthfully, and Raph rolled his eyes. We flew through the halls, getting to our lockers and throwing out things inside. I had to help Trinitie because her hands were shaking so badly.
Once we were outside the doors, I picked Trinitie up off of her feet, throwing her in my arms. She shrieked, not expecting it, and glared at me. I chuckled and said,
"We'll go faster." She reluctantly agreed and pushed her face into my chest, trying to keep warm. I was working up a small sweat though, since we had to run all the way to Central Park, which was at least ten blocks away.
Why would you want to meet there in the middle of winter?
We made our way there anyway, fighting against the cold wind. People around us on the wide sidewalks didn't even spare us hurrying teenagers a glance as they fought to keep their hats and scarves together in place.
After trekking through for about a half an hour, Trinitie was shivering, and snow started to drift lazily down from the sky, landing everywhere. I smiled, and despite being cold, Trinite laughed and tried to catch a flake with her tongue. We slowed our pace now, seeing that it was getting more slippery with the ice that was forming.
The cold was biting at my face and hands, but I did my best to make Trinitie as covered as possible, trying to protect her from the freezing temperatures. Her teeth were chattering, and I felt helpless, thinking and wracking my brain for a possible answer. Surprisingly, nothing came up, and I decided to get her to the lair as quick as possible once she had talked things out with her father.
Why didn't she wear a bigger coat? Gloves?
My bag was still on my back, and I threw it back from over my shoulder to retrieve the gloves and scarf from inside of it, giving it to Trinitie. She took it gratefully, smiling at me before looking at the falling snow with wonder once more.
When we finally made it to Central Park, I set her down, keeping her close to me to give her some of my warmth. We were at the place where she said he would meet us, and I glanced around, seeing no one.
Suddenly, a person entered my field of vision. He was wearing a trench coat (because that isn't suspicious) and had his head tipped towards the ground. Once he made it to us, he looked up, his coat whipping this way and that.
He smiled at Trinitie, looking at us warily in our protective stances, but made no move to hug her. "Hello, hun. I know this probably won't mean much to you, but I have to go. I divorced your mother, as I said I would, and she ended up getting seventy five percent of everything, along with custody of the kids. Of course, you haven't been included, seeing as you don't have a birth certificate." Trinitie flinched, and I rubbed soothing circles onto her shoulder blades, soothing her. She leaned into my touch, listening.
"I have to go make some money to provide for us. Though, when that happens, you'll be old enough to be out on your own. I'm sorry." She nodded. "I'll keep in touch if you want me too. That's all, I guess."
Abruptly, Trinitie surged forward and hugged her father, murmuring something I wasn't able to hear. From the smile on his face though as he beamed, I suggest that she told him that she forgave him. She returned to me then, and I hugged her to me tightly. Her father tipped his hat to us, before walking in the other direction.
I picked Trinitie up only a second after he left, holding her as I did earlier, and surging forward into the streets, searching for the nearest manhole. I found one, my brothers right behind me, and Leo opened it, letting me slip down first.
"What's the hurry? It's only a little cold." Trinitie said, but her words betrayed how cold she actually was by the chattering of her teeth. It was only slightly warmer under the surface, but I had to be careful. Ice had formed a bit where water was, which was literally everywhere.
Finally, back at the lair, I laid Trinitie on my bed, swarming her with the covers. My fingers were frozen as well, and my nose was a bit colder. I didn't have time just yet to switch my watch back to make me look like my regular self, so I was running around the lair, looking like a human with turtle brothers.
When I had a mug of hot chocolate for both of us, Trinitie wasn't shivering anymore, but sitting up and smiling at me.
"Donnie," She started, but I cut her off by tucking the bunch of covers tighter around her small form. My hat was still on her head, my scarf around her shoulders. "Donnie," She said again, but I gently placed the mug in her hands, shushing her as I stood for a moment, frozen, as I thought of anything else to make her warmer.
She took a sip of her hot chocolate before saying calmly,"Donatello! I'm fine!"
I ignored her though, and said,"I could make a heater really quick, all I would need-" she cut me off.
"Just come here and cuddle with me. Bring your laptop. That will make me warmer." She then took my mug that I had put on my nightstand beside the bed, holding it in her other hand, waiting for me to do as she said.
I did, and was finally able to switch the dial to look normal, sighing at the release. When it was on, it felt as if I was being squished everywhere, only enough space to breathe and move about. I'd have to work on that later.
I laid under the covers next to her, holding my laptop in one hand that was in the air as I got situated. I took a sip of my hot chocolate, which burned the tip of my tongue pleasantly. I looked over at her and she smiled at me.
"What do you want to watch?" I asked her, going on the internet.
"Hmm..." She looked conflicted. "I can't choose between Pewdipie... or catching up on Supernatural. Which one?"
"How about both? We've got all day.'' I suggested, and she smiled.
"Ooooo lets start with Supernatural. Have you noticed that almost in every other episode, Sammie gets strangled and choked in some way." She said, and I thought about it. Noticing the pattern, I chuckled.
"I guess he does."
"He isn't very lucky." She commented, as I clicked on the site to watch free episodes.
We snuggled and watched a full season, and I laughed as Trinitie predicted what was going to happen. Odd enough, she was right most of the time. She covered her eyes with the giant comforter I had when things got too intense for her, gripping my hand tightly as she watched. I chuckled under my breath at her reactions to certain things, her over dramaticness.
"Are you sure that you aren't a physic?" I asked her, and she shook her head, giggling.
"Come on." She shook my arm. "Lets watch some PEWDIPIE!" She exclaimed happily, and I switched to a new tab to get there.
"Which one?" I asked, ready to go to the one she wanted.
"Umm... Slender Goat. I haven't seen that one." She said, and set her empty mug on the nightstand. She had been trying to get more out of it from the second show, and I laughed as she only got a drop on her tongue each time, one a little smaller than the last.
I clicked the video, and we started watching him play a game, laughing hysterically at anything funny. It was very entertaining, and I decided that I could watch more of this sometime in the future.
I never really used youtube for anything besides movies...
I laughed as he was confused since the goat was riding the bike, and a human was riding the goat...
