Ch.8 Teams
Yasuko's POV
I groaned as I felt warmth land on my eyelids. Slowly, I opened my eyes and blinked as the light blinded me. Yawning, I sat up and rubbed my eyes as I tried to get rid of the sleepiness.
I starched the soreness from my body and let out another yawn. Taking a quick look, I saw that I had two hours before the explanatory meeting that was being held at the Academy. I quickly grabbed a set of clothes and ran into the bathroom that was attached to my room.
Taking a quick shower, I grabbed my fluffy towel to dry myself. I smiled as the smell of lavender surrounded me. Seeing I was dry enough, I slipped on my clothes before walking out of the bathroom.
I took out a weapons pouch from my closet that was already filled with a series of weapons and strapped it to my right thigh. I ran towards my bed and reached out my arm for something underneath it. When I felt my hand wrap around a cool leather handle, I pulled it out and smiled. Strapping it on my waist, I grabbed my comb and brushed it through my hair. When I felt there were no tangles left, I tied my hair in a low ponytail, parting my bangs in the middle to frame my face.
Walking up to the mirror, I gave a small twirl to admire my appearance. I was wearing a sleeveless fishnet shirt, a blue kimono shirt with the Uchiha crest on the back, a thin white sash that held the shirt together, and black shorts that were up to my mid thigh. On my arms and legs were white arm and leg warmers, both in which were hiding chakra weights.
Chakra weights were like regular weights, but to increase the weight, all I have to do is add chakra. Right now, each hidden weight (two on each leg and one of each arm) weighed about 10 pounds.
Strapped to my waist was the same katana that Mama has been given by my Ojiisan when she was a little girl. Papa had given it to me when I was five when he thought it would a a good time for me to learn the skills of a swordsman. Papa told me that it had once belonged to one of the Clan's founders and that Mama was his many great granddaughter.
So all in all, my outfit was a replica of what Mama used to wear back in her Academy days.
I turned and jumped on my bed. I sighed, a small frown crossing my face when I saw the sleeping tiger on my bed. Shaking him gently, I tried to wake Ru. He sleepily got up, purring as I scratched under his chin. I giggled and lifted Ru up before placing him on the ground. Giving the tiger equivalent of a sigh, he stretched before walking out of my room. I smiled and quickly followed him downstairs and into the kitchen.
My nose crinkled when I smelled something burning. I gave a small squeak as I covered my face when a sudden explosion erupted in front of me. I was pushed back a little from the force of the explosion. Uncovering my face, I coughed from the smoke surrounding me. I opened the window and turned around forming some hand signs, using one of my wind jutsus, I forced all of the smoke out of the house through the window.
I laughed at the sight in front of me when all the smoke was gone. Standing in front of a broken oven was Kakashi and beside him was Ru. The oven's glass was shattered, the metal bent in some areas, the inside was completely burnt, and there was a small fire still lit inside. Kakashi was standing there rubbing the back of his head sheepishly while holding a tray that held some burnt food. His silver hair stuck straight up and was now a dusty, coal black. His skin was covered in soot and the white apron he was wearing was burnt from catching a bit of fire.
By his feet was an eye twitching Ru. His once clean white and black striped fur was now covered a dusty black.
Giggling slightly, I pushed him towards the first floor bathroom where I told him to take a shower and clean up. Sighing, Kakashi nodded and did as he was told. Looking down at my companion, I laughed as I saw him trying to lick himself clean only to get nowhere. I laughed and told him to wait while I went to help Kakashi.
Hearing the sound of running water, I ran into Kakashi's room and took out all the clothes that he would need to wear for the day. Placing them in a neat pile, I picked them up and walked towards the bathroom. Knocking on the door, I entered and placed all of Kakashi's clothes on the counter.
I walked into the kitchen and motioned Ru to follow me outside. Making my way to the side of the house, I pulled out a giant tub, liquid soap and the hose. Knowing what I was doing, Ru climbed into the tub and closed his eyes. I smiled and began to clean him up.
Once he was all cleaned, I motioned for him to get out of the tub, which he happily obliged to. Once he was out, he shook himself from the water, getting me wet in the process. I laughed and used another wind jutsu to dry us properly. I cleaned everything up and made my way inside with Ru following behind me.
I sighed seeing the mess in the kitchen. Checking the clock I saw that I spent 15 minutes just cleaning up Ru which wasn't very long, and from the sounds of the shower running, Kakashi wasn't done cleaning up yet. Taking out the necessary materials, I began to clean everything. By the time I was done, Kakashi was beginning to make his way downstairs, clean, dry and ready to go. The only thing in the kitchen that needed to be done was for the oven to be replaced.
"How about we go out for breakfast instead, Kakashi-oji?" I suggested with a smile.
Rubbing the back of his head, Kakashi sweat dropped and nodded with a sigh.
"Hai." Kakashi agreed.
Smiling up at him, I ran to the front door only to stop when I heard a cough. I raised an eyebrow in confusion when I saw Kakashi standing behind me.
"Aren't you forgetting something, Yasuko?" Kakashi said expectedly.
I tilted my head in confusion causing him to sigh.
"Your forehead protector." He said simply as he pointed at the metal plate on his forehead. I gasped and began to run upstairs, only to have Kakashi grab my collar and successfully lift me from the ground. I pouted at him but stopped as he pulled me towards him. I blinked as he placed something on my forehead. Once he was done, Kakashi pushed me in front of a mirror in the hall. I blinked and slowly placed a hand on the forehead protector that Kakashi had placed on me.
The forehead protector was placed where it should be with my bangs over and brushed to the sides like Papa's. I smiled and turned to see Kakashi and Ru staring at me in approval. I blinked as I stared at Ru.
"Kakashi-oji, can Ru have a forehead protector too?" I asked.
Kakashi didn't seem surprised by my question and merely reached into his pouch, fishing out another forehead protector. He hands it to me with his usual hidden smile.
"I suspected that you'd want Ru to have one as well, considering he's basically like a ninja hound for you." Kakashi explained.
I nodded and went on my knees in front of Ru to securely wrap the forehead protector around his neck. I smiled at Ru, ruffling the fur on top of his head before deciding it was time to head out.
Ru followed beside me as I held Kakashi's hand to lead him to where we were to eat breakfast. I stopped in front of a small café. Sliding the door open, I pulled Kakashi inside, smiling at the familiar woman who greeted us.
"Welcome! Oh, good morning, Suko-chan!" A tall woman with rich, chocolate brown hair and lightly tanned skin smiled as she greeted me. Her hair was pulled up in a neat bun, held with black chopsticks with light blue ornaments hanging from the ends. She wore a crimson red yukata with a black obi and an apron on top. Her forest green eyes sparkled in the morning light matching the beautiful emerald chakra stone that she had adorned around her neck.
Amarante Yume was this woman's name. She was the mother of a little girl I had stumbled into during my first day in Konoha, named Kasai. I had met her when I had found her two missing kittens in the park one day. After returning her kittens, she kindly invited me to her café for tea and dango. Hearing that dango would be involved, I couldn't say no.
Yume had invited me to come visit her many times, especially after finding out that I had met her daughter before. After bribing me with more dango, I ended up visiting her many times. In turn, I had given her an emerald chakra stone with instructions to think of me as she said "midori" which means 'green' if she ever needed me.
"Ohayo, Yume-oba." I greeted with a polite bow.
Yume smiled at me. "I'm guessing you'd want the usual for breakfast?"
I nodded; a small smiled crossing my face. "Please double it since I had brought my oji with me, Yume-oba." Yume nodded as she nodded her head at Kakashi in greeting. Kakashi did the same.
"I'll be back with your order soon. I'll call Kasai down. She's been hoping you'd visit soon." I nodded at her words before pulling Kakashi towards an empty booth. He took a seat in front of me as Ru climbed in beside me.
"Yasuko, where are we exactly?" Kakashi asked as he looked over the interior of the café.
"Oh, umm, welcome to Fantasia Café, Kakashi-oji." I smiled.
Kakashi nodded and raised an eyebrow. "And how exactly did you come across such a café?"
"I met Yume-oba in the park one day. I had found some kittens and saw they had collars. As I was making my way around the park with them, I came across her. I overheard her asking if anyone had seen her kittens were luckily the ones I had found. When I had returned them, she thanked me and invited me to her café. I come to visit every so often, especially after finding out her daughter was actually a girl I had met when I had first come to Konoha. Yume-oba, her daughter Kasai, both enjoy my company, including the two kittens I had saved. Their names are-" I was interrupted as two fuzz balls jumped onto the table and onto my shoulders.
I sighed seeing the familiar coats of black and white fur. I pointed at the one on my left shoulder. "This is Yin, the older kitten I had saved." Yin was a slick black kitten with a white spot of her left eye. "This is yang." I pointed to the one on my left shoulder. Yang was a pure white kitten, and like her twin, she had a black spot over her eye but on the right. "They are twins." I introduced the two kittens.
Kakashi chuckled as he stared at the two kittens that were snuggling into the crook of my neck. "They were named appropriately. I see all cats seem to like you, Yasuko." Kakashi commented as he nodded towards Ru who was now growling softly at the two kittens on my shoulders. I sighed and patted his head causing him to purr. I giggled slightly and nodded. I jumped as a little girl's voice echoed in the café causing Yin and Yang to jump off my shoulders.
"Yasu-nee!" I turned and smiled at the little fireball that came running towards me. After spending a lot of time with the Kasai, I learned that she was about 4 years younger than me, making her 5 years old. She enjoyed playing with her friends, especially Ru and I and she dreamed to become a great ninja like her older sister once was. It saddened me to find out that Kasai's older sister, Tsubaki, had died two years back when Kasai was three.
"Hello Kasai-chan. How are you?" I wrapped my arms around the little red head as she smiled happily at me.
"I'm good Yasu-nee! Do you have time to play with me?" she asked. I shook my head sadly causing her to frown.
"I am sorry Kasai-chan. I have an explanatory meeting today at the Academy. We are being divided into our Genin squads today." I said. Seeing the frown on the girl's face grow, I poked her forehead with my fore and middle finger. I smiled as she stumbled a bit as she held onto her forehead before staring at me in confusion. "But I promise to come visit more often. Maybe next time I could teach you how to throw a shuriken properly."
Feeling a glare thrown in my direction I laughed nervously. "With your mother's permission and supervision of course." I turned in the woman's direction seeing her nod in approval causing me to sigh in relief.
'Never get in the way of an overprotective mother. Though it is understandable why.'
Kasai grinned up at me as she wrapped her arms around my waist causing me to fall back against Ru. The two of us giggled as Yume came in with our food. My stomach growled as the food was placed causing my cheeks to flush. Kakashi and Yume laughed at me as I pouted slightly at them.
"Come on, Kasai, let Suko-chan eat. She'll be visiting soon just like she promised. For now, go up and clean your room, okay?" Yume said. Kasai pouted but followed her mother's orders nonetheless. With one last hug she waved goodbye with the promise of my return soon.
Yume left Kakashi and I to eat our food. With a clap of our hands and a quick thank you, we began to eat. The food we were given was as good as usual. From Kakashi's expression I could tell her was surprised by how good the food tasted. Glancing beside me, I giggled seeing Ru's happy expression as he ate the meat he was given.
As usual, Kakashi finished before me. As I ate I didn't notice him staring at me. When I caught him, I felt my eyebrow rise in habit. "What is it, Kakashi-oji? Is there something on my face?" I asked as I took a napkin and wiped my face in case of any food had been on my face.
Kakashi chuckled as he shook his head. "Nope. Just thinking about how mature you are for someone who isn't even 10 years old." I blushed a bit but felt a bit conflicted not knowing if that was a compliment or not considering at my age, I'm supposed to act childish without knowledge of the dangers outside of the village walls.
I glanced at the clock and saw that it was already 10 and remembered that the meeting was at 11. If I start walking now, it should take about 20 minutes to get to the Academy.
"I have to go now, Kakashi-oji. I do not want to be late for the explanatory meeting and it starts in an hour and I still want to see Sasuke-oji. You should be heading off as well. I remember you telling me that you had to meet with the Hokage and the other Jōnin around the same time as my meeting. With your habits, you will probably be late if you leave later." Getting up, I kissed Kakashi's cheek and waved at Yume as I exited the café with Ru by my side.
"Thank you for the food Yume-oba! I'll be visiting soon! See you later!" I called out.
"Take care!" I heard Yume shout as I made my way to the Academy.
20 Minutes Later
As I walked into class I waved at everyone who greeted me, Smiling, I slipped into the seat next to Sasuke and pecked his cheek in greeting. "Ohayo, Sasuke-oji." He smirked at me as he ruffled my hair making me smiling at the affection he was giving me.
I looked around the class and saw many familiar faces. I smiled and waved when I saw Naruto enter the classroom, his forehead protector wrapped around his head. Jumping out of my seat, I ran and wrapped my arms around his waist, a smile plastered across my lips.
"Ohayo Naruto-nii, congratulations on becoming a ninja. I knew you could do it!" I smiled happily.
Naruto grinned as he lifted me up a bit, pulling me into a warm hug. "Thank you, Suko-chan!"
As we pulled apart, and I was set back on firmly on the ground, Naruto ruffled my hair, causing me to smile at the affection. Taking his hand, I pulled him towards my seat next to Sasuke. I leaned my head against Sasuke's arm as Ru took his place on the desk in front of me. I yawned a bit, kneading my eye with my hand as a wave of fatigue hit me.
'Did I get enough sleep?'
My eyesight began to blur. Before the darkness consumed me, I felt arms wrap around my waist, and warmth surrounding me.
Sasuke's POV
I watched as Yasuko's eyes began to droop. Her body slumped forward and before she could fall, I wrapped my arms around her waist and placed her on my lap. Seeing the space empty, Ru jumped off the desk and placed his head on Yasuko's lap before following his friend into a deep slumber. I chuckled seeing the two companions had already fallen into a deep sleep. The two probably woke up early again.
Sighing in content, I placed my chin on top of Yasuko's head and waited for the explanatory meeting to begin. I glanced around the room, a small frown pulling on my lips when I saw a familiar blond grinning like an idiot in his seat.
'What the hell is Naruto doing here? Didn't he fail the graduation exam?'
As if reading my mind, Shikamaru walked up the steps to his usual seat in the back row, only to pause when he saw Naruto.
"Huh? Why are you here? Today's explanatory meeting is only for those who graduated." Shikamaru said to Naruto.
"Hey, can you not see this forehead protector?" Naruto said pointing to his head protector, "Starting today I'm also a shinobi!"
'Iruka must have given the dope another chance. He does seem to have a strange bond with the idiot.'
I snapped out of my thoughts when the door suddenly slammed open and in came in two of my most obsessive fangirls. I watched as they both shoved each other to enter the classroom.
"Goal!" The two yelled with their arms spread.
I raised an eyebrow at their idiotic display. 'What are they doing? They're making themselves look like fools.'
I sighed and checked if Yasuko awoke from any of the noise. Fortunately, the girl was still peacefully sleeping.
Is stared at Naruto from the corner of my eye when he suddenly turned around. I followed his gaze and noticed him staring at one of the two fangirls who had entered the classroom. But I scowled when I saw the pink-headed fangirl was staring at me.
Sakura ran towards the area of my desk and my scowl deepened.
'Damn it, not again.'
I ignored her as she asked to sit next to me, which quickly escalated into a fight between the fangirls to see who would seat next to me. I glanced at Ru, who took up the seat before an aggravated sigh escaped my lips.
'I'm surrounded by idiots.'
I felt Yasuko shift in my arms and looked down to see her sitting up and rubbing her eyes. "Can I ever sleep here without being rudely awoken by a bunch of noise?" I hear her mutter out.
I smirked at her and pulled her into my chest. I heard Yasuko sigh as she wrapped her arms around my waist. I haven't been with Yasuko long, but I have witnessed one of her episodes when her guardian had sent her to me in the early morning when he had a mission. Not knowing how to calm her, I had to learn the hard way.
I tried to calm Yasuko by whispering comforting words into her ear but from the way her hands were clenched, I could tell it wasn't working.
'Hopefully I'm able to calm her soon. If the fangirls don't shut up, Hime will make them. And a sleepy, cranky Uchiha, is never a happy Uchiha.'
Hokage's POV (In the Hokage's Office)
"Is that him, this year's number one rookie Uchiha Sasuke?" My son Asuma stated as we observed this year's graduating class through the crystal ball.
"That's right." I confirmed.
"He's the survivor of the Uchiha Clan." Kurenai commented.
Yūhi Kurenai is one of the new Jōnin of the village. She's a strong and caring kunoichi. Kurenai is a fair-skinned woman, has long back-untamed hair, and very unique eyes that red in colour. Her regular outfit consists of a red mesh armour blouse with only the right sleeve visible. The material resembles bandages with a pattern similar to those of rose thorns. Her hands and upper thighs are also wrapped in bandages.
"Oi Kakashi, isn't that the girl you're taking care of?" Asuma asked.
Kakashi looked up and smiled under his mask when he saw the young Uchiha girl asleep in the arms of her uncle.
"Yeah, she's a sweet kid." Kakashi said.
"Who is she anyway? It seems that the Uchiha has a soft spot for her." Genma, another one of my Jōnin asked.
Shiranui Genma is a very calm, impartial, collected, and proud shinobi. He has brown, shoulder-length hair which hands about his face and brown eyes. He wears his forehead protector like a bandanna, and the standard Jōnin outfit and like always, has his trademark senbon in his mouth.
"That is Yasuko. She is Sasuke's niece." I stated.
The Jōnin who were not there when Yasuko first came, stared at me in confusion.
"But if she's his niece, that means, SHE'S UCHIHA ITACHI'S DAUGHTER!" The Jōnin yelled.
Those who were already notified of Yasuko's parentage simply nodded as if saying, "Yeah, so what?" The rest of the Jōnin sweat dropped and looked back at the crystal when he heard someone shout.
"BE QUIET!"
Everyone was silent as they stared at the one who yelled with wide eyes. Standing on top of one of the benches was Yasuko. Standing beside her was Sasuke, and from what I could see, he was trying to clam Yasuko down. Yasuko's hands were clenched into fists as she glared at everyone in the silent classroom.
It was very out of character seeing the youngest Uchiha so angry, but what caught all of the Jōnin and my attention was the sudden change of colour in her eyes. Instead of their usual warm onyx eyes, they were piercing silver.
We stared in shock as students began to tumble out of their seats. We watched as Yasuko's white tiger walked to her calmly, placing his snout in her palm. As if a switched were flicked, Yasuko calmed down, and slowly sat back down on the bench, her arms wrapped firmly around her feline friend.
I sighed in relief and looked up at the many astounded Jōnin.
"Kakashi, do you know what happened?" I asked the girl's guardian.
Kakashi nodded as he stared at the crystal ball, "Yasuko isn't one to let her anger to take control of her. She's actually very skilled in keeping her emotions in check, but there are times when her anger gets the best of her, mainly when she's sleepy. You remember how Haruka and Itachi were when they didn't get enough sleep. A cranky Uchiha is never a happy Uchiha." At this, many of the ninja in the room shivered, remembering the times they have come across a cranky Uchiha. "At times like this, Yasuko's chakra would spread to the area around her and cause some sort of earthquake, as if her chakra was holding her emotions." Kakashi explained.
Everyone nodded in understanding, mentally noting to never get on the young Uchihas' bad sides.
We watched as Yasuko peeked her head out of Ru's neck and glanced in our direction, causing us to stare at her in greater surprise. She smiled slightly and bowed her head, mouthing out "Ojiisan."
"She can see us?" Asuma asked.
"It seems so." I muttered, "Yasuko always seems to have some way of surprising people. You'd certainly be lucky to have her on your squad."
All the Jōnin nodded their heads in agreement. Turning back to the crystal ball, we all continued to watch.
Yasuko's POV
I jumped a little when I heard a loud thump. Turning my head from Ru's neck, I squeaked a bit when I saw Naruto on top of the desk crouching in front of Sasuke and I. I sweat dropped when I saw he was glaring at Sasuke. I swear I saw lightning pass between the two.
Not wanting to get caught in between the two, I jumped out of my seat with Ru following behind me. Climbing up the steps, I made my way to the row above my own where Shikamaru was sitting. I smiled at Shikamaru who gave me a lazy salute in return.
"Hey Yasu." Shikamaru greeted.
"Hello Shika-nii." I smiled.
I sat in the seat beside him, gently running my fingers through Ru's fur as he placed his head on my lap. We talked as we waited for the meeting to begin but we were interrupted by the gasps of many fangirls. Sighing, we faced the front to see what was going on but gasped ourselves at the scene in front of us.
In front of us were Sasuke and Naruto. Both their eyes were wide as they paled. Everyone was silent as we watched Sasuke and Naruto... kiss.
After a few seconds of shocked silence, the two parted and began spitting off the others germs.
"Naruto, I'm gonna kill you..." Sasuke scowled.
"Naruto..." Everyone turned and saw the huge crowd of angry fangirls cracking their knuckles and glaring at Naruto. We all stared at Naruto with pitiful eyes.
I giggled causing everyone to stare at me. I blinked as I realized something and tilted my head at the two boys, my eyes filled with curiosity.
"Someone told me that when you kiss someone, you love each other. Does that mean you two love each other?" I asked.
Everything was silent before all the guys, excluding Naruto and Sasuke, burst out laughing. Sasuke and Naruto glared at each other before turning to me.
"HELL NO!" They yelled.
I jumped a bit and wrapped my arms around Shikamaru who was still laughing. I winced when the fangirls began to beat up Naruto. I bit my lip and was about to make my way to help Naruto only for Shikamaru to place a hand on my shoulder and shake his head. His silent way of telling me to leave him be. Biting my lip, I nodded my head hesitantly and took a seat beside him again. When they parted they revealed a bruised and beaten Naruto.
"Starting today, you are official ninjas, but you are still Genin. It's only going to get harder from here. You all will be in a group of three, with the acceptation of a group of four from our uneven amount of graduates, where you will accomplish under a Jōnin teacher."
Ino smirked at Sakura who had taken her seat beside Sasuke.
"I wonder who's going to be in Sasuke-kun's team." Ino said.
"I don't know." Sakura responded, staring at Ino from her peripheral view.
'They are probably hoping to be placed on Sasuke-oji's team.'
"We've arranged the groups so that overall abilities are equivalent. I will no announce them." Iruka said, "Team 7... Uzumaki Naruto,"
Naruto lifted his head from the sound of his name.
"Haruno Sakura," From the sound of her name, a cloud of depression surrounded her, while Naruto jumped up with a fist pump.
"Uchiha Sasuke,"
The rolls between Sakura and Naruto were now reversed, causing me to smile a bit.
"And Uchiha Yasuko."
Sakura squealed with hearts in her eyes, Naruto grinned and sent me a thumbs-up, while Sasuke smirked at me and have me a nod. From the corner of my eye, I could see Shikamaru frown a bit and mumble out a small "troublesome," the smile on my face widening. From around the room, groans of disappointment echoed making me realize how much everyone wanted me on their team.
The rest of the teams were called and Iruka was about to end the meeting when Naruto suddenly slammed his hands on the desk.
"Iruka-sensei! Why is a top student like me in a group with this guy." Naruto yelled as he pointed at Sasuke.
"Sasuke graduated with one of the highest scores. And you, Naruto had the worst scores." Iruka stated bluntly.
Everyone laughed at this while I frowned a bit.
"This happens because we wanted to evenly divide abilities between the groups." Iruka explained.
"Just don't get in our way, dobe." Sasuke said referring to himself and I.
Naruto growled before questions marks surrounded him he once again yelled for Iruka. Clearly a bit annoyed, Iruka asked what Naruto wanted now.
"You said one of the highest scores. Did someone tie with him?" This question caught everyone's attention as they also turned to Iruka.
Iruka blinked, not expecting the question before looking through his papers on his clipboard.
"Hmmm..." Iruka hummed, "Well it was certainly a surprise to many of the higher ups including the Hokage himself. Even though she hasn't been here long, Yasuko placed second for the highest scores as she wasn't tested on many things, but her score during the exam surpassed even that of Sasuke's. If she had attended the academy since the beginning of the term, she would have placed as the number one rookie of the graduating class."
I blinked as I heard jaws drop and gasps throughout the classroom.
"N-no w-way!" I heard someone yell.
"I'm going to introduce the Jōnin teachers in the afternoon. Meeting adjourned until then." Iruka explained.
I watched as students got out of their seats to eat lunch. Many of which went to their assigned teams to get to know each other better. I sighed as I got out of my seat and with one hug from Shikamaru, made my way towards the door. I stopped as I exited the academy and looked up at the sky.
'So I am teamed up with an impulsive, knuckle headed jinchūriki, a vengeful Uchiha, and a pink headed fangirl. Hmm... I can tell that everything has become very interesting.'
