Since the kingdom of Gardenia has been attacked many times before, the royal family has put in undercover maids and guards to keep a watch on things. These castle staff are very loyal to the family, and will do anything for the royal family. They will faithfully to anything the royal family tells them, even if that means testing the selected girls.

But like every kingdom, you have rebel spies posing as the good guys. Of course no one knows of this. The report back to they're head rebel leader with the information they are giving. That means spying on the selected girls and royal family. They will find anything to leak to Sofia anonymously to put in the press. They will stop at nothing, even if that means sabotaging dates, parties, whatever it is they will do it.

But the selected do not of anything about the rebel and loyal castle staff. Its best for them not to know, because then they'd watch everything they'd say around them. Which don't be fake, they have pretty good perceptions of people, don't let them fool you.
