Finally, school was out of session and the teens walked out of their schools to their transportations home. After getting a circulation-stopping hug from Mary, Devan walked over to the pickup area in front of the school where Collins sat in his car, waiting for his little bro to arrive. The younger one opened the door, shut it tight, and flopped like an overcooked whale into the seat under him. Already receiving mixed messages, Collins pulled out of the parking spot and asked, "Soooo, how was the first day?" Devan shrugged putting his seatbelt on finally, "Honestly, it was actually not that bad."

"Really? That's great! Mom's gonna love hearing that from you. She has been so anxious all day, it was all she talked about," He did his not-so-feminine mom impression, "'I know he's gonna do just fine..do you think he's gonna be okay? I hope he isn't worried or confused. Oh, my poor baby!'" Collins's impression made Devan laugh his head off. It wasn't even good, but it was extremely funny! Devan tried to contain himself to say, "Bro, I think you have to work on that a little more." Soon they were both laughing and turned up the music while they sang very out of tune.

Once arriving at home, the Key Brothers were dying of laughter. Collins wiped his tears as Devan held his stomach from all the laughing. They inched closer to the front step, holding each other's back so they wouldn't fall over. They opened the door and came inside to find their mom sitting on the couch as if she was waiting for them. Mrs. Key got up and ran over to Devan and grabbed his face, "Hey my big boy! How was your first day?" She went in for a kiss and Devan let her, saying, "It was good, mom. It was good.." The mother pulled away and sat on the couch and patted the cushion next to her indicating she wanted him to sit with her, "Now tell momma all about it." Devan moaned but solemnly agreed as Collins held his hands out to his sides, "Hey! Is no one gonna ask how my day went?" His mom answered, rolling her eyes, "You did nothing today." Collins chuckled slightly, "Oh yeah, that's right."

Collins went to the kitchen to find a snack while Devan told his mother a little bit about his day. The rest of the evening went as usual. Dad got home, they all had supper together, then later headed their separate ways to do their own things. But tonight was different.

"Ooh! What are you making, mom?" Collins asked as he and Devan stood over her as she was preparing a dish of something. Mrs. Key replied still focused on her work, "I'm baking my famous apple crisp pie."

"Yay!" The brothers exclaimed. She only made her one-of-a-kind pie every so often and the Key brothers already heard their stomach's grumble with anticipation.

"It isn't for you," The woman said to her boys. Confused with their hearts beginning to deflate, the brother's crossed their arms as Collins questioned, "Then who is it for?" The mother picked up the mouth watering treat and started to wrap it up nicely, "You two are going to bring this to our new neighbors." She isn't serious, Devan thought as he began to get nervous. Collins was confused to what she was talking about, "New neighbors?"

"Yes, the Green's. They live just over a block." She did, Devan realized mentally slapping himself. He would love to see Stella, he really would. But how was he gonna make sure she doesn't know his brother is Collins Key? Devan started to speak since he hadn't done so this whole conversation, "So when are we bringing it over?"

"Right now." His eyes bulged, "Right now? As in, right now? Like this very moment right now?" Noticing her son's attitude change, she handed him a dolled up paper bag with a decoration on it, "Right now, Devan. Is this going to be an issue for you?" The younger one recognized how ridiculous he sounded and put on a smile, "Not at all, just checking." The mother nodded a little calmer, "Okay, the address is 1276 on this road. Put on a happy face and be friendly! Tell me how it was when you two get back." Collins grinned as he and Devan walked towards the door, "Okay we will."

As they shut the door to the house, Collins saw his younger bro fall silent and staring straight ahead. What was up with him, he asked himself. He tried to start a remark walking past the first house that said 1268, "Whoa, this place is really close!" Devan nodded trying to not act nervous, "Oh, yeah it's only five houses away." Collins looked up at the dark sky, "I wonder if they got any kids.. Or maybe a guy around our age to hang out with." Or a girl.., Devan said in his mind. His brother continued the discussion, "Ooh! Maybe this guy could do videos with us sometime or help us setup."

"Yeah, that'd be cool." Would it? The Key brothers turned into a sidewalk that had the address of the Green's house. Collins gestured with his head at the two story building, "This must be the place." Devan sarcastically said hiding his real feelings, "What gave it away?" They both laughed and walked to the porch. The older one rang the doorbell and the youngest started to get sweaty.

The door swung open and an elegant girl stepped forward. Her hair descended beautifully over her shoulders, her face sparkled beautifully in the night, and her body leaned softly on the door looking at the boys standing at her doorstep. Devan's mouth started to hang open but he closed it. Stella gave a soft smile to both of them but noticed the shorter of the two, "Hey Devan." The other just made a dorky grin, "Hey Stella." Collins raised an eyebrow, "You two know each other?" Devan explained, "We go to the same school." Stella held out her hand to Collins, "Hi, I'm Stella. What's your name?" The magician went to grab it and started, "Hey, I'm-"

Devan flinched and stepped in front of his brother, "Here, our mom made a house warming pie for your family." The tenth grader held the bag in front of her and she grabbed it from him, "Oh, thank you so so much!" She stuck her face in the bag and took a whiff of the treat, "Mmm! This smells delicious! Thanks!" Devan grinned, "No problem." Collins started to mess with his key necklace, "And you guys are in the same classes?" The girl nodded glancing at Devan, "We only have English and Art together, but I know it'll be a lot of fun. Do you like Art or are you just taking an easy elective?" Before Devan could respond, Collins wrapped his arm around him, "Are you kidding me?? Devan eat, sleeps, and breathes art! He's incredible!" The other wiggled from his brother's grasp feeling slightly embarrased by his behavior. He never really liked it to begin with, but right in front of Stella? Devan tried to play cool, "Bro! You don't have to go over the top about it." Stella had a twinkle in her eye, "Geez, I didn't know you were a passionate artist! Maybe you can teach me a bit or two about some techniques." The boy beamed, "I'd love too."

"Stella! Who are you talking to?" She turned around and called, "Just our neighbors, dad! They brought a gift for us," Stella looked at her new friends, "I gotta go. My dad doesn't like me fiddling around this time of day. But, I'll see you later!" They both waved as Collins said, "It was nice meeting you!"

The door shut and the brothers started to walk back home. Collins was wondering why Devan was acting so weird all of a sudden. He voiced his opinion, "What just happened back there?" The younger one felt hot but tried to ignore it, "Heheh, what are you talking about..?"

"Just back there. I was about to tell her my name and you cut me off." He was gonna get caught. There is no way he could get away from this, Collins was his brother. The boy sighed, "I didn't want you to say your name to her because...if she found out who you really were, she'd want to start being your friend and desert me." The older one was very baffled, "Why would you care about that? She's just some random cute....," he gasped. Devan knew the key brother figured it out. Collins exclaimed, "You like her!" The younger one didn't answer but smirked. His brother playfully punched him, "You have a crush on her, don't you??" Devan laughed a little and looked over at the taller boy, "Yes, yes, I have a crush on her. Stop being so loud!"

"But dude, this is like--this is like your first crush in a LONG time that is actually your age!" The brothers have sometimes had crushes on Collins's friends, but Devan never had a shot with them, although neither did Collins. This time, he had found someone his age, beautiful, and kind beyond compare. The older ones smile started to creep higher, "You should ask her out.." Devan's expression grew nervous, "No way! Not until you tell Carla how you feel." Now it was Collins turn to be frightened, "Heh heh, nice try. You know I have a different reason to keep my mouth shut." Devan knew. The boyfriend named Eddie. Collins never liked him. He had always thought the skateboard dude wasn't good enough for Carla and she could do so much better. The older brother's feelings have been bottled up for weeks. He thought he was okay with Carla dating Eddie at first, but quickly saw how much he really cared about the girl. Devan patted Collin's shoulder, "It'll be just fine, bro." Collins smiled, "I know, thanks bro."

The two boys pushed their feelings aside and started talking about their plans for next week. Collins was gonna hang out with Carla and his friend Jake on Thursday and Devan was going with him. Together, they are going to get ice cream and walk on the beach, whatever they wanted to do. Devan wasn't sure what HIS plans were other than school all week but maybe he'll be able to make some.

They got home and their parents were already at the table having some dessert; bowls of their favorite ice cream. Devan started to act like a child getting excited, "Ooh! Can I dish myself some too?" Collins followed suit, "Me too!" The mother looked at the dad who only shrugged. Would their boys ever grow up? She hoped not. Mrs. Key answered, "Of course. You know where it is." Devan started grabbing the container out of the fridge and held a spoon he had gotten out the drawer and started scooping the cookies and cream into his bowl. The mother spoke once again, "So how was meeting the new neighbors?" The boys froze and looked at each other. Devan slowly put the spoon to his lips and took a huge bite of the ice cream with his face now unable to move. Collins groaned silently. Of course Devan would leave him with the talking. The older one walked over to his brother with a different spoon and bowl and started scooping the amount he wanted and replied to the question, "It was great. We were able to meet the daughter named Stella and she loved your apple crisp pie, mom." The father's eyes widened, "Wait, why didn't you bake us any of your famous pie??" Everyone started to laugh with each other and everyone's thoughts began to ease.
