Dancing

Hey yall!! This is going to be cute with some drama! Anyways, hope you enjoy!!

Ps. The song up there will come in handy😉💕
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A week has gone by for the key brothers. Collins had started online college and he is miserable. He forgot how boring school was... He sucks it up and does it for two hours each day, yet afterwards he acts as if he just ran a marathon.
Like on Wednesday, Collins goes downstairs from doing an assignment practically crawling down the hallway. His mom was in the living room reading a romance novel in her bathrobe with one leg across the other and saw her son lying on the floor. She is slightly distraught and speaks, "Collins, be a big boy and walk please." He just groans and slumps up and gives her a tired expression. She gives him a sympathetic look, "Awe, is my boy working hard up there?" Her boy nods with a childlike pout across his face and she holds out her arm to him, "Come over here."
Collins obeys and drags his feet over to his mom and leans his head on her shoulder sitting next to her. He looks up at the woman and asks, "Why is college so hard?" Anne answers the child's question, "Because it's suppose to challenge smart minds so they can learn and have a well paid job for a bright future." The eighteen year old shrugs, "Makes sense," he takes a glance at a page open in his mother's novel, "Whatcha reading?" He felt his mom grow stiff and she shut her book tightly, "Nothing you'd enjoy." Before the boy could argue, the mother stood up and said quickly, "Who wants lunch?"
Now friday Devan has finally made up his mind. He wants to join the Drama Guild! Mare was super excited holding onto his sleeve, "OMG!! I can't believe you're gonna do the play with us!" Devan was used to her dragging him, "I know, I didn't think I was gonna want to, but it's so interesting to me." They started walking towards the Auditorium as Mary held onto him, "Is the interesting part ginger with hands as soft as silk?" The young boy felt his body shiver as she spoke. How...did she know that he was thinking about her, and with hands soft as silk?! Devan looked at her cautiously, "Are you reading my mind or something?" Mare fixed her glasses and looked straight ahead, "Well, you told me you liked her so I figured-"
"I meant about her hands..," Devan said cutting her off. The nerd came to the realization, "Oh, I just know. I've felt her hands before and also I've heard other people talk about them." Devan just stopped talking and began to think. Would he like doing this play? He's always enjoyed dancing, but for something on a stage?
As soon as they came into the auditorium, he saw someone running over to him. "Hey Devan! I'm so happy you're joining the production!" It was Stella! She was running to him? Okay, act natural, Devan said to himself. He gave her an awkward wave, "Uh, yeah..hi." ....He did it again. Why does he always have to embarrass himself? She's just a girl. A strong, daring gorgeous one.. He heard Stella's voice through his thoughts, "You're a little nervous, aren't you?" The short boy gave an anxious laugh, "..Just a little bit."
Stella led him towards the stage when Devan noticed Mare was gone. She must've ran over to Luke or something, he decided. He focused his attention on the beauty in front of him, "Well, you'll do fine. All you have to do is do the moves like we practiced together, and you're already a natural at them. And also the choreo is mostly duets so the partner you're paired with today is the one you'll stick with for the whole play." He nodded as he heard her instructions. Devan couldn't help but stare at her beautiful ocean eyes, he was surprised she didn't catch him.
Once they came closer to the stage, the tenth grader saw Nathan up on the platform practicing twirls. He noticed the bully's glare as he stood next to Stella. Frightened, he moved slightly away from her but not super distant. Shifting his gaze away from Nate, Devan felt someone else giving him the dead eye. Afraid to look, he tried to ignore it but it soon felt stronger. Tilting his head, he sees it's Annabelle crossing her arms at the boy from across the room. She was not happy. Yeesh, she was pretty and all, but that scowl doesn't suit her well, the boy thought. Luke walked over to him and Mare followed, "Hey dude, you ready for your first day?" Devan smiled at his friend, "Ready as I'll ever be."
"Guys, Mrs. Kline is here," Mary said putting a hand to both boys' mouths. The woman Devan assumed was Mrs. Kline started to walked down the aisle towards the crew. She looked to be in her mid forties and was very slender. Although it was visible she had wrinkles and grey strands of hair, her elegant school teacher outfit made her look like she knew what she was doing. She held a clipboard and a ballpoint pen and tapped it slowly as she eyed each one of them.
Mrs. Kline spoke to them, "Hello everyone. Welcome to the official meeting for our play; Dance Academy. Does anyone not know what the play is about?" Devan raised his hand slightly and saw he was the only one who didn't know what the production was. Not paying much mind to it, the teacher proceed to talk about the play, "This piece is the story of two lovers who meet at a Dance Academy and the only thing that stands in their way is that the lady's father doesn't think the young man is worthy for his daughter's affection. Today, I will be putting you with a partner and you'll be performing the choreography we were assigned. Here are the groups;"
She started looking at her notes and read off the names; "Izabel Marie and Anthony Simons, George Harris and Christina Dallas, Maryanna Kimbel and Luke Wilde;" Devan saw them exchange a kind glance; "Stella Green and Nathan Rock, and Devan Key and Annabelle Weedly." They all looked for their partners and Devan was dreading it. Annabelle was going to be his partner? And Stella was with Nathan?! Of course, they look great together. He must've looked upset because Stella came over to him and patted his back, "Hey don't worry, we're doing "My Girl" by My Level. You know, the one with the dip and lift we did together. You'll do fine-"
"Hey babe, come on stage and shake that thing," that was Nate standing behind her. Stella's smile grew aggravated and she just rolled her eyes with a huff hopping onto the wooded platform. The tuff guy's mojo turned upside down and Devan sort of smiled. Nathan turned to him with a growl, "You better watch yourself, shrimp. I'm warning you." Mrs. Kline stepped between them, "Mr. Rock and Mr. Key please walk up to the stage."
The two listened without any word. Devan shouldn't be getting the lowdown from Nathan. HE got to dance with Stella. The new kid tried to ignore it and walked over to where Annabelle was standing and got into position. He heard the girl seeth into his ear once she finally decided to get ready for the performance, "Don't get any ideas, twigs. I'm just doing this because I have to." He felt the exact same way..
(You can play that music if you want to now😉)
Soon the instructor started playing the music and the partners started to do their choreo. Devan held Annabelle at a distance but made sure he did all of the moves so Mrs. Kline would appreciate him. They just kept a straight face and just focused on the dance. He spun her and got down on his knees as she fake sighed putting one hand to her forehead and the other out. The tenth grader looked over and saw Nathan hold Stella close to him while her upper body was easing away from him gradually. Devan felt himself get worried but tried to hide his feelings and stared into Annabelle's horrifying eyes. The song was very lovey dovey and the two weren't feeling it. The boy glanced and saw Luke and Mary jazzing it up and smiling like fools. They looked like they were having a great time. He wished he could be like that...
Abruptly, the music stopped and everyone on stage cut their moves, while Mare was giggling in the back. The dancers looked at the teacher who stared at two partners in particular. She looked like she was in deep confusion to Devan. He wondered what was going through her mind.
He soon found his answer when he saw her fix her old lady glasses, "You all are doing very well with your formations..but something isn't right," she looked at Devan and Stella's group, "Mr. Key and Mr. Rock's group, this is supposed to be a song about a first love, meeting the one you hope to be with forever. I do not feel the chemistry between you and your partners.." They all look at each other then back at the instructor, "I'm going to try something," she gestures her hands in a crossing motion, "Switch. Mr. Rock with Ms. Weedly, and Mr. Key with Ms. Green."
Devan looked up and made eye contact with Stella who smiled and walked over to him. Mrs. Kline started to head back towards the sound board and called out, "I want each of you to smile and get a little closer to one another. You want to feel as if the person you're dancing with is someone who stole your heart and you are telling them how much you care through dance. We'll start at the second verse." How ironic...
Stella grabbed his hand sending a shockwave through Devan's body, "We got this. It's just like when we practice after school." He nodded at her and playfully said, "Just try to keep up." She giggled, "Oh you just watch it, Dev." Soon the two began to take position with one another, holding a gaze.
The song began to play and the two began their choreo. His smile grew as he took both of her hands and danced with her. As they went, Devan listened to the lyrics in the song:
"Cause you are perfect
and I'm so lost in your eyes.
when you're laughing
you got the cutest smile
It feels like heaven
when you kiss me on the lips
You blow my mind every time
I know I know I know I know
I'm falling so hard for you
So come on come on come on come on
let's set the world on fire"
Devan spun her around and wrapped his arm around her waist while she did a backbend. She skipped away from him as he raced toward her. Without hesitation, he put his hands on her sides and picked her up and started to spin her around. Then he set her down with his eyes focused on her extraordinary ones.
The music slowly faded as they held their stance with his hands on her waist, only a few inches from each other's face. They breathed slowly and smiled at their successful performance. Stella seemed to beam with every word she said, "Oh my gosh, we did amazing!" Suddenly the ginger girl threw her arms across Devan's shoulders in a hug. His heart quickened as her body was lunged on his. He smiled feeling the butterflies fill his chest and gave her a hug back.
There was a loud cough indicating someone was trying to get everyone's attention. That's when Stella and Devan pulled away with a small giggle. Mrs. Kline walked to the groups and gave a side smile and nodded, "Excellent. Simply excellent." He looked over at Stella who was watching the teacher. They were pretty amazing at their choreo. He couldn't believe he was the most popular girl's dance partner!
The teacher called a small five minute break so Devan went to get a sip from his water bottle. As he hopped down to the auditorium seats, the tenth grader grabbed his bottle of water and gulped down half of the liquid. Mary and Luke joined him looking as if they're having a great time. Mare nudged his arm, "I saw what was going on, Dev..you and Stella, dancing as if you were the only people on Earth."
He blushed as she said that causing Luke to laugh. Devan looked at the two, "At least you guys got each other. How lucky is that?" They glanced at one another causing them both to grow nervous. He knew they felt it.. Luke answered rubbing his neck, "Yeah..it's pretty lucky." Mare laughed hitting him in the arm, "Lucky Lukey!"
They all laugh at that and soon the five minutes ended and they all headed back towards the stage. Mrs. Kline was going to have the groups practice the song one more time when she noticed someone was missing, "Where's Ms. Weedly?" Devan looked around. Where was Annabelle? Why should he care though, he was glad she wasn't there; she's a witch.
Stella answered the teacher looking unsure, "She said she had to go to the bathroom." The teacher nodded, "Well then, everyone let's all stretch onstage." Suddenly one of the girls came from the back and called from offstage, Devan thought her name was Mackenna, "Mrs. Kline, there is a spill back here but there's no more towels!" The woman groaned, "Of course," she turned to the boy nearest to her, "Mr. Key, could you go to the supply closet and grab more paper towels?" He would have not been able to if Mare hadn't shown him around. He's so glad to have a friend like her.
So the boy ran up the aisle and out the big doors, speeding down toward the end of the hallway. Devan's mind wandered a little, humming to the tune of "My Girl". It was stuck in his head, but who could blame him? Stella pounding in that song everyday for practice before Devan joined the production.
He looked around the corner and saw the closet. But what the boy didn't expect was to hear a noise coming from the supply closet. It sounded really weird to him. Being as quiet as possible, Devan just stood there trying to make out the noise, but quickly realized what it was with the pecking sounds and breathing. He soon opened the door and what he saw caused his innocent eyes to widen.
Right in front of him was Annabelle clasping her lips with some chiseled dude that looked to be a junior or senior. He cringed inside as they were leaning into each other against the shelves. But swiftly the two broke apart and Annabelle gasped as she saw the Key boy standing awkwardly in front of her. She growled as flames practically filled her pupils, "Can you give us some privacy, twigs?!" Devan stepped back holding his hands out, "Hey, I was sent here to get paper towels."
The dude who was in the closet with her began to slide past her, "I'm getting out of this." Annebelle flicked her head towards him, "Marcus, come on we weren't done!" He didn't look back which made the mean girl even angrier at Devan. Oh crap, he thought. She stepped towards him and scowled, "You are so gonna get it, Devan Key! Just you wait..!" She pushed into him and stomped towards the auditorium. Devan let out a breath. What did he just get himself into?
