Today is the twins birthday, meaning that they get their fifteenth birthday present from their mum and Hugo couldn't be more excited. He isn't the one getting the birthday present but he still was counting down the minutes until they sing happy birthday and Louis and Ema open the present.

Marinette Dupain-Cheng disappeared on the 29th of April 2038, six years ago when Hugo was only twelve. Marinette just disappeared, she didn't take anything, she didn't pack anything, the only thing Marinette Dupain-Cheng did before her disappearance was set out three presents, one for when Hugo turns fifteen and one for when the twins turn fifteen.

Hugo already got his present, three years ago on the 3rd of October, the present was his mother's signature light pink and black polka dot diary, the dairy was tampered with and half of the pages were missing.

People always call his mother's disappearance A Ghost Act, the called it that because allegedly no one saw her leave, of course that is only allegedly. Hugo saw his mother on the night of her disappearance but he didn't tell anyone.

Looking back at that night, Hugo doesn't remember why he didn't run to tell his dad but Hugo does know why he doesn't tell them know.

Guilt.

Hugo feels guilty for that night.

Hugo feels guilty that because he didn't tell his dad, his younger brother had panic attacks every night for over a year, Hugo feels guilty that Ema has to grow up without a mother, he feels guilty that his father lost the love of his life that night, all because Hugo let Marinette leave.

"Boys!" Hugo heard his sister call from the bottom of the main stairs and then the sound of, who he guessed, was his younger brother rushing to Ema's beck and call, Hugo and his dad were a lot slower at moving to Ema.

"What is it sweetie?" his dad asked which Ema just replied to with a glare, Hugo chuckled as he looked at his father's confused expression, Ema never hold their father how she dislikes Miss Auclair and her daughter.

Louis was struggling to not let the items in his hands fall out as he spoke, "Em, what is it? I'm kinda busy right now."

"Busy with what?"

"Busy getting ready for our party which you should also be doing right now."

Ema grabbed the items from Louis' arms and carelessly placed them on the table beside them, "Party planning can wait Lou! It's mum's present time."

Louis shook his head, going over to the table and started collecting them again, "No it isn't, we do Mum's present after the party, that's what we did for Hugo's fifteenth."

"Dad said we could open our presents before the party!"

Their dad titled his head, strands his blond and grey hair falling into his view, "I did?"

"Yeah. Two weeks ago, you were marking papers in the kitchen when I poured myself a glass of water, sat down next to you and asked," the smirk on Ema's face made it almost impossible for Hugo to not break into laugher, almost. Hugo remembered what his father was like two weeks ago, sleep deprived and not thinking properly, their dad would have said yes to letting Hugo move out if he had asked.

"That's not fair."

"Well sometimes life isn't fair dad."

Louis put the items down, understanding that his arms have a better use right now, like calming Ema down, "Right. That's enough of that, let's open mum's present!"

Hugo couldn't tell who was more excited, him or the twins.

Their father left the room for a couple second, about half a minute, before returning with one small light pink messily wrapped box with ' Emilie ' written on it with even messier writing. The other box was wrapped in a light blue wrapping paper and was much bigger in size, written on it, it said ' Louis '

When the presents was placed infront of Louis and Ema, Hugo's eyes darted towards Louis who, Hugo could tell, was freaking out. "Hey, hey, Tommy calm down," Hugo said as he hugged Louis, once more feeling bad that he caused this pain for his little brother, if only he had stopped his mum from leaving that night.

Louis took a deep breath in and out, squeezing his fist in and out, creating almost a stress ball effect, Miss Auclair had taught him that technique and it worked the best with him. "I-I'm calm," the blond boy's voice was barely audible but Hugo heard that it was stable enough for them to continue.

Louis looked over to Ema and saw that she had already opened her wrapping paper so Louis did the same to catch up, "A jewellery box?" He turned to face his dad and Hugo, maybe there was a story behind the box but Adrien was too shocked over Ema's present to even acknowledge Louis'. "Hugo?"

Hugo looked at the pages on the bottom of Ema and Louis' presents, pages, pages! They got pages, Hugo analysed the pages without a doubt he identified as the same from his fifteenth birthday, their mother's diary. The paper was as white as snow but looked as if sand was dropped on them, the lines that guided Marinette's handwriting was the same light pink as the case. The smile on Hugo's face made him look like an idiot but it didn't go away because for the first time in a long time Hugo had hope.

"Ema don't open tha-" the four were temporarily blinded by red light as Ema opened the box, inside was black earrings and-

"What is that?!" Squealed Louis, he hugged Hugo for protection which just made him roll his eyes.

"I am Tikki-" Ema poked the red and black thing which caused Tikki's attention to move towards the youngest, a large smile appeared on the small things face, "Your kwami."

"My what what?"

"Kwami," their father said sorrowfully, "With the earrings Tikki can turn you into Ladybug." The look on each of the Agreste children's face perfectly summed up their general reaction to everything, Ema; excitement, Louis; fear and Hugo; wonder. "Tikki, why are you here?"

Tikki turned to Louis, "To serve the new Guardian."
