Chapter 5

I can't believe he was upset about getting to the mountain... was it maybe that he still wanted to talk? Maybe he was too tired. I'll never be sure.

I turned back to him, and he seemed really tired. His face was pale, he looked weak, and as if he wanted to collapse. He looked to me and started to shake. He did collapse, and I caught him. I knew he really needed the rest. I saw a cave nearby, it couldn't be that hard to pull a guy.

I was so wrong.

I pulled him to the cave and dragged him in. I set him down, and took his cape off. I set it down on the ground and laid him on it. I sat near the wall and leaned on it. I looked up at the roof and sighed.

This is not what I planned for a run away day. I closed my eyes and started running through the events in my life, I started to cry. Even though my life was so horrible, I couldn't help it. I pulled my knees up to my chest, put my hands, which were covered with my sweater, on my knees, and placed my head on my hands, crying. I sobbed into my sweater, making it really wet, I was already starting to ruin it.

I heard a moan from Oneye, and I tried to wipe the tears away, but I think he saw me anyways. I couldn't let him see me cry, I always thought I was strong, at least I hoped. So I buried my face in my sweater and hid. I saw him look up, and at me. He seemed disappointed, but who knows, it could've been the pain. He seemed to decide nothing happened and he lay back and fell asleep.

------- Next Morning --------

I felt a hand on my shoulder and I knew it was time to wake up, but I'd gone about a week with restless nights. I didn't want to wake up. I felt a strong hand shaking my shoulder, but I just couldn't, I may have been sleeping against a wall, but I was still sleeping.

"Nichole... come on wake up." I heard Oneye say.

I mumbled and finally opened my eyes; he was standing right in front of me. "I'm up, I'm up." I said as I mumbled and got up.

"You were screaming in your sleep...." Oneye started to say.

"I was?" I questioned as I started to take my sweater off. I started to recall a dream, but it was like a puzzle that had missing pieces.

I remember I was running with Koda, away from a bear, wolves and eagles. Oneye had been far in front of me, urging me to keep running. I knew my legs would break under me and the last thing I remember from the dream was telling Koda to run to Oneye, as I fell and the animals engulfing me.

He nodded and took my sweater and put it in my bag for me. I saw Koda, and he was sleeping at my feet. We stood face to face and started to chat. We had decided to wait here for awhile, Oneye was healing up, and I was still tired.

I went around the cave looking around when I noticed that it seemed as if there was another chamber. I put it aside, probably a dead end, and nothing there.

I sat down with my bag and Oneye set out a bit of food for us to eat, what he had left. I glanced at Koda and checked his leg, it was healing. I got water and left it his head and a bit of dog food and treats along with it. I took a red apple and Oneye took a pear. We ate in silence, and when we finished we put our garbage in a bag, which we stored in his bag.

I noticed there was a bit of wind coming from the wall of the cave, as if it was really airy in that part of the cave, the only thing, was it was a wall, no air could get through that. I decided the wind must just be circling the cave. I still had a unsettling feeling about it, but I shrugged it off anyways.

Oneye seemed to be watching my every move, I didn't know why but he did. It kinda scared me. He saw me glance at the wall, and he followed my gaze. I saw him stand up and check the wall and gasp. He turned back and stared at me wide eyed. I stood up, and woke Koda, he followed me to the wall of the cave.

I didn't see anything. I pressed my hand against the wall and stared at Oneye. He was smiling and trying to hold in a laugh. He tricked me.

"Ha, ha, very funny Oneye." I said as I looked at the walls of the cave.

I noticed a rock out of place, Where had it come from? I thought as I stared at it. It couldn't have appeared out of nowhere.

I decided to leave it, but it was tempting to touch it. I felt the wall, it was rugged, hard, and smooth in a few places. I heard the whistle of the wind, and finally I couldn't stand it.

I pressed the rock.
