It's Her!
Chapter 3
*Oneye*
Oh My Goodness! It was her! I couldn't believe it, I guess I had to protect her...
I couldn't believe it, she, out of all people were the people I had to protect.
Well, I guess I should show her it, but she'd just run again.
I got off the base of the hill and I saw her flinch, as if she was ready to move. I held the locket by its gold chain in the light, so she could see it. I placed it in my hand and looked at the jewel. I saw her stand up, but I picked up my bag and slung it over my shoulder. I started to walk away. I knew she was following me, I could even hear her footsteps.
"Hey, what was that?" I heard her yell to me.
"Oh, just a little piece of jewelry my mother told me to protect." I explained plainly, as I walked near the woods.
"You're kidding right? It looks like something expensive, not something you'd act so plain about." She told me.
"I finally stopped, do you want to know what's inside?" I finally asked.
"Yes, please." She replied.
"Okay, but promise that you won't run?" I asked to make sure.
"Yea, fine. Bind me to the tree if you're that worried." She held out her hands for me to bind.
"Yeah, okay." I took her hands and put it on a near by branch, I found a rope and tied her. "It's not chafing into your skin is it?"
"Nah, it's fine." She leaned on the tree. "Now, lemme see."
"Oh don't get your hands in a twist." I took out the locket and carefully opened it and showed her.
I looked up at her face, and I could see the pain and shock, I shouldn't have shown it to her, but I had to.
"My... Grandma?" She squeaked.
"Yes, your grandma..." I said. "Look, my mom, she told me to protect this, I did, she told me, when I found you, I had to take care of you, protect you from harm."
"Oh..."
I started to untie her and I finally released her. She grabbed for the necklace but I pulled it away.
"Why?" She asked as she cocked her head.
"Too precious, must be kept in its box, and with me. I don't plan on giving it to anyone, not yet."
"Oh, fair enough, sorry for... for running." She apologized.
"It's fine, I understand."
"Now, how'd you get your hands on the book and necklace?" She asked me intently.
"Well, my mom gave me these, she said she was good friends with the old lady in the pictures."
"Huh..."
"Huh what?"
"Nothing....." She said ever so quietly.
"Okay, if you say so." I knew she was hiding something, but I wouldn't push, this was crazy enough.
She smiled happily, as she looked down at the picture of her and her grandmother. I could see her eyes brimming with tears. She gently wiped her eyes, trying to cover up the tears. Her hair fell down her shoulder. She tried to get it out of the way but she was to distracted to.
"I... can't believe it." She finally said.
"I can."
I placed it in it's box and handed it off to her. "Here, it's yours."
"Oh, thanks." She took it and placed it in her bag and took out the book. She started to read the first page. "This is her journal."
"I've never dared to read it."
"Oh, well thanks." She got up and put the book back in her bag. She snapped her fingers and instantly Koda got up and stood by her.
I got up myself and we walked to a nearby river. We silently went across on rocks and we walked, farther and farther away from the green hills, and to the mountains. We walked on a path and headed there.
"To the other side of the mountain." I said
"Why?"
"It's... it's a safe place to escape."
"Oh, thanks."
There was a howl in the distance, we looked around but we didn't see anything, so we kept going on. I walked on the path and noticed paw prints, I knew I probably shouldn't be here, but we had to go anyways. We kept walking until I heard a growl. I turned, but nothing was there I kept walking, and right in front of me was a wolf.
"Nichole, run!" I yelled to her.
She turned and saw the wolf, she understood immediately, and she ran with her dog.
"Back off!" I said to the wolf. I picked up a stick and pointed to the wolf, threatening to poke at it.
It had silver fur and a black line down its spine. It's paws were as white as snow, and it's teeth were sharp and ready to bite. I stared into it's emerald green eyes and hoped he wouldn't pounce, because if he did, I knew I'd be dead meat..... literally.
I heard a growl and I turned, there was another one. The same except instead of green eyes, it had amber eyes. They were trying to corner me. I took an arrow from my bag and pointed at both of them. The backed away one step but no more than that.
I started to back up but I knew if I ran, they'd chase after me. I looked up and I saw Nichole, she had stopped running, she was nearing the base of the hill and looking at me, urging me to run, but I couldn't. She understood and waited, she sat and looked to me. If I didn't survive, I couldn't protect her, or love her, or even tell her I loved her.
I wasn't thinking and I finally looked back to the wolves, after being distracted. They had gotten closer, and they were cornering me to a tree. I didn't know but suddenly I heard other growls, more wolves. I pointed the arrow at them, hoping they'd get away, but they didn't. I didn't have the heart to anyways.
They seemed to be taunting me, then the first one I had seen before, decided to step closer.
It pounced.
