Give Me A Chance
Chapter 2
*Oneye*
I ran, but there was nothing. Nichole was still sleeping, she must've slept through the screech. I glanced around but there was no one there. I turned back and slept again.
I didn't know what was coming.
---- In the morning ----
I woke to a cold hand on my mouth. I wanted to scream but I couldn't. I instinctively used my hand and tried to grab my spear, but it wasn't there. I tired to punch whoever it was, didn't work.
I don't know who it was but he or she pulled me up to my feet. I tried to turn to look, but it didn't let me. I figured that the hand wasn't as rough as I thought it would be. It wasn't a boy's hand either. When I finally stopped struggling I looked out to the field. Nichole wasn't there. I looked up and I saw her dark brown hair, and I saw her rosy tan skin hand. I sighed and stopped struggling completely and removed her hand from my mouth.
"What was that for?" I questioned her as I sat up properly.
She put her thin finger to her lips and pointed. I looked to where she was pointing and there I saw a big, massive animal. We looked at each other and silently decided to ignore the animal.
We heard a soft growl and I turned to look, but the animal wasn't there. Finally I turned back to Nichole, but behind her was a large, scary animal.
It was a bear.
'Nichole don't move' I mouthed to her. She nodded and sat still, with Koda by her side.
The bear stared and moved on. "It's ok now Nichole." I told her as I let out a breath, which I didn't know I was holding.
She breathed out a sigh of relief. "That's good." She patted the dog and started to braid her hair, in 2 braids, one on each side. I watched as I took a paper out a book. It had a leather cover and a leather strap, the papers inside were old, but not that old. I handed it to her.
"Here, I'm not sure how to read exactly but I think the name on it is similar to yours." I said as I let go of the book.
"That's my grandma's name...." She said as she took the book.
"Oh, cool."
"You STOLE her book!" She said shouting at me as she stood up. Koda perked up and stood. Growling at me.
"No! I didn't!" I yelled back as I stood up to face her.
"Then how do you have this huh? Explain!"
I was speechless, I don't know how I got my hands on it.
"Thought so, Koda let's go." She picked up her bag and unbraided the braids she had done. She ran off over the hills and I didn't see where she went.
I grabbed all my things and put them in my bag and ran after her. She had already gone, and I couldn't see her. "Nichole!" I yelled, I still couldn't see her.
"Good bye!" I heard her yell back. I kept looking around and I ran a little over the hill. I finally spotted her, all the way on the other side of the hills with Koda.
She stared at me and stood there. I cocked my head and took a look. I knew she wouldn't go anywhere. I stepped closer and she stepped back a little. I saw her hand wrapped around the book, carefully but tightly.
The dog growled and howled. I ran a little ways forward, and just before I thought she'd stay, she ran all the way to the next hill. Boy, this girl is hard. Her hair flew behind her, and her feet pounded on the ground. I didn't see her go over the hill, but then I noticed a howl from the dog.
I sighed and decided to give up. I sat at the base of the hill and stared. She must've noticed because she sat at the base of the green hills. I looked up at the sky and realized it was near noon. I put my hand and felt for food, but I couldn't feel it.
She'd stolen my food!
Smart move Nichole, smart, but next time... oh next time. I thought to myself.
Instead I took out a locket. 3K Gold locket, with a 5K pearl in the middle of it. It was the shape of a diamond, it was beautiful. It had been handed to me by my mom. I remember her exact words....
--- flash back ---
"I know you don't know what this is, but take it okay? Keep it safe, never lose it, and when one day you find a girl running away, one with a dog. Give it to her, only if it is worth it, test her, see if you should. If she passes your test, give to her, but don't forget, if you ever want to find out what this is, you have to ask her... before, before she's gone." She had says to me as she handed me the locket.
"Alright mom," I said to her as I took a glance at it. "It must be expensive."
"It is, that's why you need to take good care of it." She replied.
I took it carefully and placed it in my hands. I found its case and placed it inside carefully.
I always walked around with it in my bag, until I had ran away.
------ Back to reality ------
It had a picture of an elderly woman, she had graying hairs and hazel eyes which sparkled with excitement and joy, she had not so many wrinkles, but still had a few. She was smiling in this picture, holding a baby. There was a young girl, with hazel eyes, brown hair, and rose tan skin, she looked much like the young version of Nichole.
I took one more glance, a closer glance.
It... it was her.
