❅ Chapter Fifteen ❅

Medusa was rather bored the whole time they traveled from the train crash in Russia to France. She had gone out to do some business since she knew this journey did not need her to watch over. She was in no mood at all to watch then travel, she would be doing that too soon.

Not that she would admit it, but having a normal life was pretty decent. Going out, shopping, talking to people, things of that nature. She could see her living a normal life after this Rosenberg girl was finally dead so she could have a normal life.

She secretly had plans mapped out of all she was going to be doing. She had a small house that was just waiting for her in France, which she was going to be moving to. She had been saving up her inheritance for a very long time, knowing she would be using it.

She could finally move out of this clock tower, which before she couldn't. She truly didn't know if the royals were dead, so she had to stick around to make sure. Now that she knew there was a survivor she had to deal with her before she could relax and live a normal life.

When she had gotten her attention, it was because of what Randolph and Marie had said. She had to do a double-take and she dressed her ear into the mirror to make sure she heard things right. She indeed did hear them right.

She groaned loudly, balling her fists tightly as her eyes grew wide as saucers. "I can't believe they're all still alive! Even if I will have to wait to see what this Stella girl tells them, I can't believe they could all be alive and have escaped just like the duchess!" She was furious with what she was hearing.

She sighed and tapped her finger on her chin as she paced back and forth. She could not believe they all didn't die that fateful night. They had escaped with their lives. "Nathan you foolish, foolish man. You truly are a coward, aren't you? Running away when your kingdom needed you the most. I was right all along." She mumbled to herself.

She couldn't believe Nathan, who insisted he was the best King Frontrance had ever had, had fled for his life like a common coward instead of staying behind and fighting for his kingdom. Well, she could because she had been the one to point it out at the Winter Gala. They made everyone think they were dead, but instead, they were living happily in Paris.

Then her mind wandered to the tasks she had given a select few, which one lied and said they did when they hadn't. She gave a short laugh running her hands through her hair. "This is unbelievable! I knew I couldn't trust anyone with my plans, they are all too incompetent to do anything. Am I the only smart one?" She asked herself knowing she probably sounded weird.

She threw her hands up in the air and groaned. "Of course I am, unlike others, I don't quit or give up or let someone stop me from doing what I want. No one should stand in your way, you have to stop anyone who stands in your way. What don't they get about that?" She screeched, so many emotions coursing through her.

She stopped with wide bloodshot eyes, breathing heavily and her fists balled at her sides. "Ugh, this is just what I needed. When do I ever get a break from this madness? Oh, right it was my madness I had begun with long ago when I took revenge on them." She sighed, opening up the window enough to cool down.

Iggy blinked a few times watching Hans' Mistress pace back and forth, saying how she was feeling. He could tell that she was bent on revenge and just the thought of her plans that failed. She looked as if she was on the verge of a mental breakdown. "I think she is having a mental breakdown." He whispered to his friend making sure that Medusa could not hear a word he said.

Hans had to admit, it did seem like his mistress was having a mental breakdown. She was breathing heavily, she had a crazy look in her eyes, and she was having many emotions at once. "You are right. She does seem to be having a mental breakdown, which is sad. She has been stressed and it is finally coming to the surface." He gave a heavy sigh. He was surprised that they all were alive. "Never did I even think that following this girl who I thought was the duchess, would ever lead us to such information." He was marveled about this whole thing, a loss for words, unlike Medusa.

Iggy looked over at his friend, patting his feathery back sympathetically. "This takes a whole new turn on things. Yet we truly don't know if they are alive. They even said they believe that they are alive or have heard it, doesn't mean it's true." He pointed out knowing anyone could have said that. It just so happened to be Rolando's parents, who were friends with the family.

Medusa crossed her arms, tapped her foot, and grumbled. "Now I have to start from the beginning and find a way to end their bloodline once and for all." She exclaimed unhappily with how things were turning out. She had gone over most of the plans in her journal, but they all had flopped and wouldn't work since she was no longer relying on others to do her dirty work. She wasn't thrilled but it was how things would be from now on.

Draco nodded his head, stretching each of his wings out one at a time, happy to be able to use them once again. "Yes, Mistress. I'm sure you'll find a way to get them for the last time. You always have the best plans." He was boosting her ego since that was what he always did. He was the only one so far that encouraged her actions.

Medusa looked over at Draco and sighed, putting on a nice fuzzy hat and grabbing her gloves. "So, I see you are finally agreeing with Hans about taking matters into my own hands." She was surprised he would agree with such a matter. She looked back at the journal in her hand, going all the way to the front of the first few draft ideas she had.

Hans looked over at the Dragon with a cheeky look, pretty proud that Medusa had said what she did. "I am even shocked too, believe me. At least we are almost all on the same page." He would never be on the same page as Medusa but hoped she would turn from her ways. Being in Paris would mean being closer to Risa, Vincent, and Rolando, so, if need be, he would help them out.

Draco narrowed his eyes at the little tasty meal known as Hans. He was wishing nothing more than the day he would feast on that plump little crow. "I am only doing what is best for my Mistress, and that is letting her take matters into her own hands now seeing that people failed to follow her orders." He politely spoke, his voice an even tone throughout the whole conversation.

Hans rolled his eyes as if he would ever believe that. Doing what was best? Yeah. Encouraging someone to murder innocent people over a whole decade-long grudge, sure that was doing what was best. "Say what you will, Draco, we all know that you agreed because letting people handle things for you never works out. It only causes more trouble." He looked at his friend with a smile.

Iggy covered his mouth and tried not to laugh. It was true, but it was also a little blunt. "I have learned that from experience myself. I let my brother run my errands for me when I was sick, let's just say mother was pretty unhappy with him." He had his own stories, so why not share.

Hans gave an amused look to his friend as he had told his personal story. "I have met your brother before. I don't understand why you even let him. He is irresponsible, impulsive, and still lives at home with his mother and father even though he is a grown bat." He pointed out. "He also is very immature despite being older than you by a few years."

Iggy nodded and itched his head. He couldn't disagree with him there. His older brother was a troublemaker and lazy. "I have left the day I came to see you. I was so happy, not to mention my parents were so proud of me. I will write them a letter from Paris and have a carrier pigeon take it to them here!" He exclaimed happily. He was doing what his brother never could do, set out for his own life.

Draco groaned, listening to those two talk all the time. It was annoying. He didn't understand why Medusa allowed Hans to have his little bat friend there. "Can you two ever just not speak? How can you guys have so much to talk about?" He asked genuinely curious as to how they could constantly talk all day from the moment they woke up to the time they went to bed.

Hans looked over at Draco, making him annoyed wasn't such a bad thing. Besides, they had a lot to talk to and it seemed Draco wasn't very talkative. "We have a lot of time to catch up on, many things to reminisce about. We have a life and had lives before coming here when this began. Can't say the same for you." He replied.

Iggy felt bad for the grumpy old dragon, who seemed to be as sour as a lemon about everyone and everything. Though he didn't know much about dragons, he did know they have been around since the beginning of time. "It seems someone is a grouch. Can't you think back to a time when you had so much to talk about, so many friends?" He asked hoping he could understand.

Draco could not believe he had asked that. Out of all things why ask such a question? Dragons don't have friends, everyone who knew their kind would know that. At least his breed of dragons was. "I never had friends, never need friends, my kind doesn't make friends. We are a rare species, we are not supposed to exist, so the better we stay hidden and away from people the better." He leered, eyeing the crow and bat.

Iggy felt bad for the old dragon. Having no friends must have been rough. No wonder he was the way he was. Of course, it didn't help that he was an old brute who didn't know how to be kind or even nice to someone else. "Everyone needs a friend. We need to get you a friend. Better yet, we can be your friends!" He exclaimed happily, his eyes growing bright.

Hans shook his head at what Iggy had said. Was he suggesting being friends with a dragon that constantly said he wanted to eat them? "Iggy, he would love to eat us. Being friends with him is a big risk, he said he doesn't want friends. If we become our friends he will have us for a meal!" He explained in a hushed tone, though not as hushed as he wished.

Iggy rolled his eyes and waved off his friend's words in dismissal. Yes, he might have said that but he was merely being tough, which he hoped to be the case. "That is ridiculous Hans, I am sure he wouldn't eat us." He was giving the old Dragon the benefit of the doubt knowing he couldn't be as bad as Hans made him out to be. He hadn't seen him want to eat them during his time here.

Draco gave an amused snort at what the black bat had said. Did he think he wasn't serious about having them for a snack? Such nativity. "He is right, I would eat both of you. You truly don't know how long I have wanted to taste what you two funny creatures are like." He said in such a smooth and creepy way that would send chills down your spine.

Hans was right, and he pointed at Draco with his wing. He felt a chill travel through his body, making him ruffle his feathers. "Putting it that way is really weird and sounds a bit wrong." He commented knowing just the way the words were spoken and worded were a little unsettling. It sounded as if he had had their kind before.

Iggy let out a heavy sigh, that was not what he expected to hear. "I was trying to give you the benefit of the doubt. I was wrong I suppose. The offer still stands though if you choose to not eat us and let us be your friends." He exclaimed moving his wings around the air as he spoke. He couldn't deny, he was a bit disappointed that Draco remained stubborn and cold-hearted towards them.

As Medusa listened to their little chat, she then had an idea struck her and she couldn't help but smile. "We have a long way to Paris and that is plenty of time for me to plot." She interrupted them, going around and gathering all she needed for this little trip. Her plan was going to be brilliant.

Hans flew over and grabbed a little hand-knitted sweater he put on and then grabbed his scarf putting it on. "Oh boy, here we go again." He mumbled gathering up the little suitcase of his valued things. 'Brilliant she says, pfft, as if any of her plans would succeed.' He thought to himself, glancing over at Medusa every so often.

Iggy flew over with Hans, taking a spare sweater and scarf that was just his size since Hans wore it as a chick. He did modify it to fit him. "She likes a runaway train that keeps going and going." He mused having nothing to bring with him. He truthfully wondered when she would just stop and give up, admit defeat, call it quits.

Hans nodded and flew the suitcase over and wedged it beside his Mistress's suitcases in the basket she had tied to Draco. "She is very dedicated, I shall give her that. I wish I had that much dedication. I don't think I ever had that much dedication, now that I recall." He mused with a smile on his beak. He just never had that gumption, unlike others.

He was the type to give up, only when things got too much, like Medusa's situation. But he was still holding on to hope that he could change her mind and somehow stop her. He knew he couldn't warn them, it would end badly for everyone. She had her connections and with warning them, she could have them all easily killed. Yes so far her plans had failed, there was always a chance she could succeed. It may not sound reasonable to a normal person, but to Hans, he was steadfast in his reasoning and standing by it.

Iggy nodded and cuddled up over a furry coat Medusa had packed. It was soft, warm, and felt like he was being hugged. "So, we're going to France? Wow, this is exciting. Never in a million years would I ever think I would be able to go to France!" He exclaimed happily. He was beyond excited and had so many ideas of what to do when he arrived swimming about his head.

Hans grabbed a map and flew over to where Iggy was at and nested himself beside him and opened the map. "Oh goody, I was just making a mark where we should all visit." He opened up the map that looked like an adventurers map. "See the red circles are the super-secret animal places. The blue dots are the best restaurants. Green are parks since parks have green grass. And yellow, those are the best hotels. They are the ones that set the tiny chocolates on your pillow. Oh, orange is for attractions and Purple is for malls and other buildings."

Iggy was fascinated with all the time and effort he put into this. "Oh, you even added cute little pop-up buildings? Are they famous buildings? Like the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe and other things of that nature." He couldn't recall all the native landmarks, he did know a few since they were rather famous. He couldn't believe he was the only one in his family to go to France! It was a momentous event.

Hans rolled up the map and stuck it between them so it wouldn't go anywhere. He had spent precious hours on this map, researching and making notes on the blank back. "Now we can take Paris by storm!" He was really happy to finally leave Canada but sad it was because of the Rosenberg family. Although he was hoping during their trip she would realize she should forgive and forget.

Medusa rolled her eyes strapping on her dragon minions and opening up the clock itself so Draco could fly out. She sat upon his back and placed her hands on his shoulders. "Alright Draco, we are ready. Now close the clock up with your tail, gently. This place needs to remain in perfect condition to how I left it." She demanded putting in her gloves and making sure she was all bundled up.

Draco nodded and stood at the edge of the building flapping his wings he took off. Pausing though to close up the clock tower before flying off towards France. He made sure to be careful. "Flying on a dragon is a lot faster than any transportation humans would make. Besides, I have been saving up so much energy to use, so no need to stop unless someone needs to eat or use the restroom "

Medusa gave a very rare smile as she looked down at her dragon friend. Of course, neither Hans nor Iggy saw it, if they did they would have had to do a double-take. "You couldn't be more right. We will get there in half the time or even a third it took for them to get to France." She mused, glancing back at the bird and bat who was chatting up a storm.

Hans looked around and smiled brightly. "My oh my, this view is beautiful. Everyone is so tiny, you can barely see anything from up here with the clouds." He couldn't help but marvel, and yes he had been up high but never the altitude they were currently flying out. He placed his wing over his eyes to better focus on the vast city.

Iggy rolled onto his back and looked up at the sky. "I mean we are small, so anything is big compared to us. The sky is so vast, it goes for miles and miles, clear to outer space. I never would be this high in the sky, it seems unrealistic." He mused, closing his eyes and just relaxing, letting his body go slack. He was being a little sentimental, but he had the right too.

Hans chuckled at how his friend was lost in a dreamy world. "Oh, you know what I could have right about now? A fruit salad! I prefer it better than other things." He was a tiny bit hungry. Yes, he was always hungry, that was beside the point. Of course, until they spotted, neither would be eating a single thing. Medusa had packed those close to Draco's body, so his body heat would keep them from freezing.

Iggy tilted his head towards Hans but never opened his eyes. "Oh, yes. I'm so glad I'm a fruit bat. I love fruit! I prefer pineapple out of everything though. So sweet and it will quench your thirst." He could almost taste it, his mouth-watering. He would picture a few pineapples dancing around in a circle around him.

Hans sighed, he could almost taste it too, oh how he would feast when in Paris. "I am more of an apple kind of bird, so juicy - oh I don't think I told you what the grubs said last week." He had gotten a little sidetracked and didn't know if Iggy had known this or not.

Iggy opened one eye and looked at the crow. "No, you haven't told me. What did they say and how do you know the grubs?" He was curious since he didn't think Medusa let him out all that much. There were still things he was figuring out with the row.

Hans gave an amused look at his best friend. "I had to make an errand and ran into them along the way. They said that Penny, you know the barn swallow, had told her that Gooey the opossum was almost killed trying to get a cake from a bakery. They said that it was like a domino effect. Complete chaos." He explained.

Iggy started to laugh. He could picture that in his mind. "What a sight! I could see Gooey do that. He always tried to get what he couldn't have. I'm just glad he's not dead." He took a deep breath to stop himself from laughing and calm down or else his side would start hurting.

Hans smiled and sighed gently. Those were some fond memories of him he had and he was glad Iggy was bringing them back up. Oh, the nostalgia. "He is fast for an old opossum. I love hearing his stories about his days when he was young, they always fascinated me as a young chick." He mused, thinking back to how he would perk himself upon the straw of the opossum's home and listen.

Medusa rolled her eyes. They were breaking her train of thought and the plotting she was doing. "Do you guys ever not gossip about things? And for the love of everything stop laughing, it is annoying." She sneered, wishing she could have peace and quiet for once. Couldn't they just keep quiet and not talk? Was that too much to ask?

Hans frowned, how dare she call what they were doing gossiping. They were not, they were reminiscing about old times and memories. "It isn't gossip. They are true stories based on first-hand knowledge and you gotta laugh once-in-a-while, it's good for you." He pointed out, finding her sourer than ever. He figured she was in her plotting mood and any little thing set her off.

Medusa glanced back at the bird and scoffed at what he had said. "Oh Hans, I laugh. I laugh about what I'm going to do to the Rosenberg family. I'll be forever known as 'The Woman Who Murdered The Rosenbergs'. I'm so content with that label. I'll have so many people look up about me and want to be me." She hoped that would happen.

Hans glanced over at Iggy with a look showing how done he was with her. "She's always been a dreamer. Not that it is a bad thing, as long as I have known her she has always had these crazy dreams." He had never liked her dreams, they were not good for anyone's mental health.

Iggy slowly nodded his head as he listened to what Hans was saying. "I can see that. So you don't have to worry about going to jail?" He asked the older woman, not understanding how someone could be so prideful about a criminal act and not the consequences it comes with.

Medusa threw her head back and gave a short laugh. "Jail? Oh no, that would mean that someone would catch me. I'll just do away with the people who try to put me in jail if they ever try." She was as slippery as a fish as if anyone could catch her let alone keep her locked up for long.

Hans couldn't understand how someone could be so cruel. "You were always a smooth talker and manipulating people was always your stronghold as you have said." He was glad he hadn't met her when she was younger, he had heard a lot of awful things she did when she was younger.

Iggy wanted to get away from the subject and he wanted to go another way. "Anyways, we should continue to plan our little Paris adventure. I have a few ideas, and one involves seeing one of the best animal restaurants in Paris." He suggested scooting farther under the coat to keep warm.

Iggy had bright eyes at what he had said. "Oh I have heard about that, Pierre the carrier pigeon who goes between France and Canada - they are some pretty amazing birds by the way - speak highly of that place. Their food is grand, and who cares if it is human leftovers, they create something divine!" He exclaimed.

Hans chuckled at what his friend had said. He had forgotten about that pigeon. They weren't particularly close and he only had met him personally a few times. "How is he doing? Those long fights during the snow and cold must be taking a toll on that pigeon. Sometimes I am concerned about his health." He asked to hope that he was bundled up and doing well.

Iggy thought back to the last time he had seen him. It had been at least over a year? Half a year? He wasn't too sure. "He is doing well. He is bundled up and unlike most pigeons, he takes shelter in warm places until morning if he is able to. Since he knows that Canada to France is a very long way to go." He replied simply.

Hans had to admit that was one smart way to go. "He is much smarter than he gives himself credit for. He is the reason I like to keep bundled up when I go somewhere since after all, it is freezing out here." She shivered at the thought of burying himself deeper under the warm coat.

Iggy followed what his friend had done, going deeper to be warm. The higher they got the colder things were getting. Neither of them was fond of the cold. "I feel like taking a nice warm bath when we get to France in a teacup. I have heard it is so warm and feels so nice that you will fall asleep. Oh, I forgot to mention there is an animal spa-like thing for us to go to." He pointed out.

Hans perked up a little. That sounded like something he wouldn't mind doing. That was something to look forward to when they arrived in Paris. "Oh, that sounds nice. I could always use a full-body massage. My back and wings have been stuff lately and that might just do the trick!" He exclaimed happily.

Medusa just ignored them, they were going to keep talking no matter what. She needed to focus on her plans, which she grabbed out her notebook and pen, waiting a moment before jotting down a few ideas. Whatever she plotted it would need to be big and memorable.

A/N:
Sorry this is a bit late, unlike the others, been super busy. Not only that I have been struggling with this chapter since I had this decided on the same chapter as the previous chapter. I am really hoping to get this novel done by the end of the year or even sooner. That may not happen but at least I will be punishing a boat load of chapters.

Chapter talk:
So they are going to Paris. I have always wanted to go there and would love to go on my own but sadly my mom would never let me go alone. I have friends who are my age going overseas alone and they are just fine, but me? Oh no, I can never do no such thing because my mom is so paranoid that something bad can happen to me.

I am having a lot of fun writing the animals in this novel. They all have their own personality and way about them, which goes to show us that animals are all unique even if they all look the same.

And lastly, anything else I forgot to ask away my pals. I am happy to answer anything!

In closing, all rude, impolite and mean comments will be replied to in a diplomatic way, reported or deleted if I feel like it is attacking me personally.

Thanks for reading!
