Chapter Thirty Two-Paige

They next day passed in a blur for Paige. Since they had exhausted all other options for waking her wolf, they could only wait on Professor Moran. Before she knew it, she was getting ready for her date with Nathan. Since she didn't pack anything suitable for a date she had to ask Sophie for something.

"Wear this one." She said handing her a black dress that was entirely out of her comfort zone.

"That looks more like a dress you'd wear to a club, not something for a dinner date."

"It might be a club dress on me," her sister said, "But with our height difference it'll be perfect on you. We'll just do some clever safety pin alterations and you'll look irresistible."

"I don't want to look irresistible, I just want to look nice." Sophie snorted at her.

"It's this or the passion red one I have." She said holding up a red dress that was even more revealing. Paige grumbled and took the black dress.

She did her hair in her natural curls, letting it gently fall down her shoulders. She wore minimal make-up as always. Ever since traveling through South East Asia, where the heat and humidity would make any make up you put on melt off after just a few hours, and living out of a backpack with very little space, she had given up on make up. Her routine consisted of a little concealer, a little powder, and some mascara. For tonight she added just a dusting of eye shadow, eye liner and a tinted lip balm.

She stood in front of the full length mirror in her room. Gazing at herself in the mirror she felt like herself for the first time in a long time, perhaps ever. Nathan was right when he said they'd never been on a proper date. It was always group outings or hanging out after everyone else went to bed. Once they were left to travel together on their, own they never really left each other's side. While she had never looked like this while she was with Nathan, she knew that if they had gotten the chance to live in London like they had planned then this is what she would have looked like.

A knock on her door pulled her from her thoughts. "Hey," Sophie said, sticking her head in. "He's here." Paige's heart skipped a beat. Upon seeing she sister smirk, knowing she could hear it with her enhanced hearing she told her to knock it off. "I can't help that I have superior senses," Sophie replied.

Paige grabbed the small clutch she was borrowing from Sophie and made sure her phone, wallet, and lip balm were all in there. She noticed some condoms that she definiatley did not put in there and weren't in there earlier.

"Sophie what the hell is this?" she hissed.

Her sister tried to look innocent and failed. "Safety first," was all she said. "Come on, you want to get down there before dad comes out of his study. I'm sure he's already scented the Alpha."

She took a deep breath and followed Sophie out into the hall. She started down the stairs and stopped half way down when she saw Nathan standing in the foyer waiting for her. He looked like he could have walked off the cover of a fashion magazine. He wore a maroon pair of slim cut slacks, a light blue button up and a navy blazer. He heard her coming and looked up at her.

Her breath caught as she took him in. His sharp, usually intimidating features softened as he looked at her. A smile split across his face, making him look much more like the twenty-nine year old he is rather than the leader of one of the largest packs in the Northeast. His dark brown hair was perfectly coifed back away from his deep blue eyes.

The sound of her name on his lips made her heart do a little flip. He said it almost like a prayer. Their eyes met and she felt fire ignite her soul. She didn't know how she could have ever truly thought she was over him. She couldn't help the smile the spread across her face as he met her at the bottom of the stairs.

He handed her a bouquet of flowers. "You actually got me flowers?" she laughed.

"I told you I was taking you on a date didn't I? I believe flowers are a customary token given on a first date."

"Okay Mr. Spock." She teased. "And you're wearing a sports coat too. I don't think I've ever seen you look so dapper."

"Well I can't exactly fit a proper wardrobe in a 40L backpack can I?" She laughed again. They stood staring at each other. She heard someone clear their throat and she realized that they were not alone in the foyer. Her sister stood on the stairs and her mom was standing in the door frame leading into the hall, both watching them with knowing smiles. She heard the door to her fathers study open.

"Alpha Nathan," he said with surprise. "What brings you here?"

"I'm here to pick Paige up," he said looking up at her father. "We're going to dinner." He looked back at her and reached for her hand. She her hand met his he kissed it and then tucked  it in the crook of his arm and she had to resist the urge to blush. She glanced at her father as his eyes zeroed in on where he touched her. He looked at her and she knew he wouldn't say anything in front of the Alpha but his look promised a discussion later.

"Well, we should get going," she said. She handed her mother the flowers so she could put them in water and hurried them out the door.

"You look stunning by the way." He said as they walked to his car. She gave him a tight smile trying to throw off the feeling of apprehension she had by seeing her father. He opened the door for her and she slid into the front seat as he walked around to the other side of the door and climbed in.

He noticed her hands fidgeting and reached over and held them. "Hey," he said softly. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing, it's just," she let out a big breath and looked down at their hands. "My father."

"Hey," he put a finger under her chin and gently turned her face towards him. "This night is about you and me, and only you and me. Okay? Not what your dad or your family or what the rest of the pack thinks. Just me and you."

She looked into his eyes. They held such sincerity and love that she couldn't think of a comeback for what he said. He gently leaned down and placed a chaste kiss on her lips. She felt tingles where he touched her. He pulled away and looked into her eyes in question. She nodded.

When he took the road that headed away from town she gave him a quizzical look. "I thought we were having dinner?"

"We are, but I thought you'd be uncomfortable eating at a restaurant here where the whole pack can see us so we're going over to the human town."

She smiled at his thoughtfulness. She had spent the last five years cursing how he left her, so much so, that she had forgotten how thoughtful he was. While they were traveling, it seemed he was always thinking of her. Picking a roadside flower or giving her little gifts, small gestures that showed he was thinking of her. She loved it. It made her feel like he considered her and her feelings instead of letting her be an afterthought like everyone else in her life.

They drove in silence for a while. It was comfortable. They didn't feel the need to fill it and were able to just enjoy being in proximity to one another. They pulled into the small parking lot of a restaurant called Bella Luna Italiano. It didn't look much more than a hole in the wall. Nathan parked and came around to her door and opened it for her.

She looked at him, "Bella Luna? Really?" He just gave her a small smile and shrugged. To the rest of the world Bella Luna would just mean 'beautiful moon' but to werewolves it would mean something entirely different.

'Luna' was the divine embodiment of the moon. The mood goddess, who the werewolves venerated. It was who they believed created them and they worshiped her as such. The Luna of a pack was thought to the goddesses blessing. Packs were always stronger when the had a Luna and an Alpha.

Paige looked around as they entered the restaurant. While the outside looked like it was a hole in the wall, the inside was beautifully decorated. It looked like it would be at home in any big city with five star restaurants while also maintaining a home town feel. It was small and cozy with no more than 20 tables. Nathan walked up to the hostess as she greeted them.

"Good evening, we have a 7:30 reservation, should be under Grant."

"Of course, right this way Mr. and Mrs. Grant." Being called Mrs. Grant made Paige's stomach do flips. It had been a long time since she had considered what it would be like to have Nathan's last name.  While some woman were particularly attached to theirs and never wanted to change it, Paige's last name had never been important to her. In the pack she used her father's last name and among the humans she used her biological mothers. It was easier, since all official human records had her listed as Robins while all werewolf records had her listed as Wilson. Taking Nathan's last name would be like a joining of those identities. She met and fell in love with him among humans as Paige Robins. She was reconnecting with him and falling in love all over again as Paige Wilson. Perhaps becoming Paige Grant would help her come home.

She caught Nathan's smirk at the hostess calling her Mrs. Grant and shook her head to empty it of such thoughts. This couldn't last. If she didn't connect with her wolf then she could never stay with him. No matter how much her heart wanted to. And oh, how her heart wanted to.

A/N: This is what Nathan's wearing, y'all need to chill. 😂🙄
