"Malia, hey", Layni said as she walked up to me as I walked to her backyard where everyone was.

There was music and I could smell the food cooking on the grill. Her backyard was really big, filled with bright green grass and a swing set and toys for the kids. The yard was filled with a lot of people that were chatting and laughing.

"Hey", I said and gave her a big hug.

"I'm glad you're here", she said as she led me to a group of women and men, chatting near the grill.

"Hey Malia", Kent said. Kent was Layni's husband and he was cooking on the grill. He walked over to me and gave me a hug and then went to Layni and kissed her and then went back to cooking on the grill.

Layni introduced me to everybody and I seen a couple of my other friends from high school and even a friend I met in college.

"You see that guy over there?", Layni pointed out to me.

"Yeah, what about him?", I asked.

"He's been eye balling you for the past hour", she laughed. "You should go talk to him". The guy had black hair and a little gray in it. He was tall and had muscles and he had a mustache and hair on his face which was well groomed. He looked a little older than I was but he was handsome and hot. But I didn't want to go talk to him because I wasn't ready to talk to another guy yet. He might turn out like all the others.

"I don't think so. I'm not really ready for a relationship right now", I said. I was looking at the tall guy while I was saying these things to Layni. He then looked my way and he caught me staring at him. I looked away really quickly and continued to talk to Layni.

A few seconds passed. Standing right in front of Layni and I was the tall guy. I looked over at Layni who was smiling her head off.

"Hey, Layni. Want to introduce me to your friend here?", he said.

"Of course. Malia this is Tim, Tim this is Malia. Tim works with Kent", she said.

"Um, hey Malia", he said and he leaned his hand forward to shake my hand. I shook it and he had a strong hold.

"Well I will be over there and leave you two to talk. Get to know each other", Layni said and then walked away as fast as she could so that I wouldn't make up an excuse to leave too.

"Hi", I said. I was nervous and I really did not feel like talking to this guy.

"Hey", he said with a smile that would have you melting on the spot.

We looked around and was quiet for a moment. He then broke the silence. "So, I saw you staring at me when I was over there", he said.

"Uh, what? No. I wasn't", I manage to get out.

"Yes you were", he said smiling.

"But you weren't staring at me?", I asked.

"Maybe", he said.

"Ok then", I said while rolling my eyes.

"But at least I admitted to mines", he said.

This guy was really irritating me. I did not want him talking to me at all. He was cute and all but I was just not up for talking to a cute guy right now.

"I have to go", I said and then I turned around to walk away.

"Wait!", he called after me, but I didn't turn around and continued to walk away.

I walked out to a lake that sat behind Layni's house. It was beautiful as the sun began to set. There was no one around and I kind of liked it this way. I sat down on a bench that looked out to the lake. It felt good to be sitting out here but then I started to think about Christian and the rest if my exes. I even thought back to when I had my first kiss with my crush at a lake.

FLASH BACK

I was fourteen and I got a note in class from the crush of my dreams. His name was Tobey Kolsen. He was a year older than me.

I heard whispers go about in the classroom while the teacher was teaching. I saw that they were passing a note. The note finally got to the girl in front of me and then she turned around and put it on my desk.

"This is for you", the girl whispered.

I opened the note and it said: 'I heard you had a crush on me. Meet me at the lake at 6:00 tonight'. I was so happy and wanted to jump for joy but I had to remember that I was in a classroom with twenty students and a teacher teaching. I looked over at Tobey and he smiled and winked at me and then I began to blush even harder.

I walked to the lake and I saw a boy standing by a tree looking out to the lake. Of course, it was Tobey. I walked over to him.

"Hey, what's up Malia", he said.

"Hey", I said. I was so nervous.

"So you made it", he said.

"Yep, so what made you finally want to talk to me?", I asked.

"You seem cool and you're really cute", he said. I felt like he was lying but deep inside I really wanted to believe him. Was he standing me up? Was this a joke? I really didn't know. I looked around the area to see if I could spot anybody. I was confused because I wasn't that popular in school and a boy didn't really notice me except Drey, my boy best friend.

"Really?", I asked and not knowing what to respond back to him.

"Yeah", he said. We stood in silence after he said that. We both looked out to the lake and I would look over at him from time to time.

A few more minutes passed and Tobey broke the silence. "So, what do you want to do?", he asked me.

"I don't know, what do you want to do?", I asked.

"Are you sure you want to go with what I want to do?", he asked while smiling at me with braces aligned on his teeth. They made him look even more better. I know that braces made some people look horrible but Tobey made them work.

"Maybe I do", I said.

"Ok then", he said.

He began to lean in and then he closed his eyes. Was he about to kiss me? I began to hesitate. I've never kissed a guy before and knowing him, he probably kissed a lot of girls.

I took a step back and put my hand up to block him from kissing me. "What are you doing?", I asked.

"I'm was going to kiss you", he said.

"I don't know about that", I said.

"What? You're too chicken to do it", he asked. "Oh wait, you've never kissed a guy before, have you?"

"Of course not and besides I don't know how to kiss. I mean, I might not be good at it", I replied.

"Well, how about I teach you?", he said and then he began to lean in again but this time I didn't back away or put my hand up to block it. His lips touched mines and his lips locked to mines for about fifteen seconds and then we pulled away. I looked into his eyes and gave him a smile. He smiled back at me.

"Not so bad, huh?", he said. I shook my head no and I pulled his face back to mines and kissed him again.

Soon the word got around that Tobey and I kissed at the famous lake in our home town. We were known as a couple. I would sit with him at lunch and all the cool girls would stare at us. They hated when I sat at their table during lunch. I was actually getting a popular reputation. But that soon came crashing down when Tobey, and his parents died in a car crash that winter. I cried myself to sleep three weeks straight. I went back to being the nerd in school and everything went back to the old way and it seemed normal again except Tobey wasn't here. The handsome, soccer athlete.

At least he didn't break my heart in the way that my other boyfriends did. Although it was a kiddy romance, I still look at him as my first kiss, first boyfriend. Tobey Kolsen will always be remembered in my heart and I would never forget about him.

END OF FLASHBACK

I continued to sit on the bench and bringing myself back from the flashback and I noticed that tears were falling from my eyes. Just thinking that only one guy had treated me right, had died and it broke my heart. Every guy I've dated broke my heart in some way. I know it wasn't Tobey's fault that he died but it still broke my heart. I wasn't that lucky with finding love. I was wrapped up in my thoughts and the sun was now gone. But someone brought me out of it all.

"Hey, are you ok?", I heard a manly voice ask.

I looked up and it was the tall guy, Tim. I quickly looked away and tried to use my hands to wipe away the tears from my cheeks and eyes.

"Yeah. I'm ok", I replied to him but I was totally lying.

"I don't think you are", he said.

"I'm fine, ok?", I said. I just wanted him to go away so that I could be to myself. He then walked to the other side of the bench and sat down. What was with this guy?

"Talk to me", he said.

"Look, I don't really know you or want to know you but I don't feel comfortable with telling you things about my personal life", I said as I stood up.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to-", he said but then I cut him off.

"I'm just going to go", I said and then walked off.

I looked back and Tim was still sitting on the bench, looking out at the moon shining on the lake. His back was turned from me so I couldn't tell how he felt by what I said to him.

I turned around and kept back walking to the party. I felt bad but I needed to get away from him. I couldn't risk falling in love with somebody and then getting hurt. Right now I was giving up on trying to find him, the right guy for me.

"Hey Malia, where is Tim? I sent him to the lake to talk to you because you seemed to be a little upset", Layni said as I walked up to her.

I really didn't want to tell her how I ditched him at the lake because I felt really bad and didn't want to look like a bad person. Was I a bad person for doing that? "Oh, he's still down there at the lake", I said.

"Oh, he didn't come with you?", she asked.

"No, I guess he just wanted to stay there and watch the lake. It looks beautiful with the moon shining on it", I said.

"Oh ok. Maybe I should go check on him because his wife died two years ago and sometime he gets into that thinking mood, you know?", she said. Right then and there I wanted to break and crash to the floor. I felt so bad and I just wanted to slap myself for saying those things to him. He was a really nice guy and I did him really wrong.

"His wife died?", I asked knowing that that was just what she said.

"Yeah. Kent and I and his friends have been here for him because he doesn't have family here because he moved here to work. He has a little girl named Chloe and she's so precious".

"Awe, I feel so bad", I said.

"Yeah, well imma go see what he's up to" she said.

Layni began to walk off in the direction of the lake. I then went after to stop her. "Wait", I said. "I'll talk to him for you".

Wow that was a pretty long chapter. Its longer than all the other chapters I have done. Sorry if it's too long for some of you...it took me a while to write this chapter and come up with what I wanted in here..but anyways my lovelies, I hope you enjoyed the chapter and hope you continue to read the book.
