Chapter 2
The first thing I noticed was the way Naruto was sulking about not being the one to fight Sasuke and how Lee had totally ignored him in favor of Sasuke.
"Don't take it personal, kid." Kenshi told him with a smile. "Lee only wants to prove a point and that point has nothing to do with you."
"Huh? What do you mean?!?! Everyone is always Sasuke this and Sasuke that!" Naruto whined. "I'm way better than that temme!"
"What are talking about, Naruto? Sasuke is way better than you and that guy won't stand a chance against him! He's an Uchiha prodigy. All you have is pure dumb luck!"
"Sakura! Did you really have to say stuff like that about me? That's mean!"
"We both know it's the truth!"
"Is that what you think?" I chipped in, giving the pink haired girl a closed eyed smile. "Unfortunately I disagree. Then again your opinion is only ever biased towards Sasuke. You wouldn't know strength if it was staring you in the face."
"Huh? That's not true!" Sakura said, her cheeks turning a bright crimson.
This made me smile at her knowingly. No matter how much she denied it, we both knew it was the truth.
"Shh, you're missing out on the best part." Maki said as he drew her attention back to the fight.
As I had predicted, Sasuke had gone in with his cocky and arrogant nature thinking his clan's doujutsu, the Sharingan would help him.
While it was true the Sharingan could copy almost every jutsu, there were some limits to its brilliance. Lee was proficient in taijutsu and had great speed. It didn't matter if Sasuke could copy Lee's technique, if he didn't have the speed to match then his Sharingan was pretty much useless.
The six of us watched as Rock Lee sent Sasuke flying up with a barrage of attacks. Whilst the other two members of team Kakashi were in shock, my team wasn't surprised at all.
I knew Lee put his heart and soul into training so he could beat Neji. From the very moment I met the over energetic ninja, all he had ever talked about was training to prove hard work was better than talent. It hasn't been hard to figure out what he meant.
There were times I would run into him in the training grounds and he would rope me in to joining him. Although I wasn't that much into the training regime I did not miss out on an opportunity to horn in on my skills.
Without my doujutsu I was a bit vulnerable which was why my kekkei genkai was a welcome comfort. It was the one thing they couldn't take from me. The only legacy my father had left me.
Thus Lee and I had become sort of training buddies although I always took care to skedaddle everytime Gai sensei showed up.
Speaking of Gai...
Having somewhat drifted down memory lane, I had missed his grand entrance as he stopped Lee from using his technique on Sasuke.
The situation would have been serious if both Lee and Gai didn't start crying and Naruto said something about Gai having bushier eyebrows. Maki was actually encouraging him with the whole bushy eyebrows thing.
"Okay, that's our cue to leave." I told the boys and practically had to drag Maki from his new bff, Naruto.
I had always known they were similar but I had always thought they'd be at each other's throats. Given we had never gotten the chance to be within the same vicinity I had never gotten the chance to test my theory yet here they were hitting it off like twins.
I could imagine the chaos they would cause if they were put together. I wasn't ready to witness that nightmare.
Luckily we made it back before the proctor appeared. Team Gai and Team Kakashi showed up a minute later. They joined all of the other rookies that had come to the chunin exams. Having all come to the chunin exams during their first year, they were a little over excited. Naruto even declared that he would best everyone and successfully drew unnecessary attention to the whole rookie squad.
"Tch, idiot just got himself first spot on everyone's shit list." Kenshi said through gritted teeth. "Now every other genin will be off to wipe the floor with us Konoha genin."
"Let the poor guy have his two seconds of glory. He'll snap out of it soon enough." Maki said with his usual goofy smile
I was about to say something myself when a new face showed up.
He had light blue hair and wore glasses. He called himself Kabuto. From the moment he showed up I had an uneasy feeling about him. I just couldn't point it out exactly what bothered me about him.
Kabuto told them to keep from drawing attention and showed them how everyone was now eyeing us with contempt. He was right about that, I caught a genin from the Sound Village eyeing me strangely with a look that seemed crazy and malicious.
I wondered what he was looking at me for. If anything I was one of the few who were minding their own business not drawing attention.
After having spaced out a bit, my attention was suddenly caught when I heard the guy Kabuto mention something about information cards. Apparently he had gathered some Intel on the genin who were participating. Sneaky little bastard. Why the hell would he be gathering information on anyone? Especially if this was his seventh time participating in the Chunin exams.
He offered to show us information on our opponents and Uchiha jumped at the opportunity. He gave three names. Rock Lee seeing as he'd kicked his ass and he was still brooding about it, Gaara of the dessert who I didn't know and that made me curious. Who ever this dessert guy was must be strong if Uchiha was interested.
The third name ticked me off. Little rat wanted info about me. What the hell? What's even creepier was that Kabuto had something on me.
After sharing the unimpressive intel he had on the other two, he took out a card that he fed chakra and it told them about me.
"Hyuga Honoka of the leaf." He began with that sly smile of his.
The others looked at me in surprise when he said that.
"You're from the Hyuga clan?" Sakura squealed out loud.
I had to keep myself from punching her. Way to tell the whole planet, dumb forehead. The only people who weren't shocked weren't here so I had to contend with these fools who suddenly looked at me like I was an anomaly. I suppose I was an anomaly. Among the other proper Hyuga I looked like I didn't belong. I was the only one who didn't have the Byakugan.
Sasuke eyed me with interest. He probably wanted to measure his strength against a Hyuga and he thought I was his perfect practice partner next to the other Hyuga who'd confronted him.
If anything, I wanted to entertain his curiosity. Maybe then I could wipe that smirk off his face and prove to him that I wasn't any weaker than Neji. No. Anyone who dared to think so would pay, I would make them pay.
Kabuto continued with his little show.
"She also has roots in the Hidden Sand.
Having completed 6 C rank missions, 8 B ranks , 2 A ranks and 1 S rank mission. She emerged with minor injuries from her mission making her the youngest kunoichi to ever be placed in the bingo book. I'm honestly surprised she's not in the ANBU with those skills."
"And I wonder why you failed the Chunin exams seven times with that amount of knowledge. It must mean your research skills are crap! Or are you really that pathetic?" I finally snapped.
I could practically feel the strong grip of my teammates's hands as they kept me from attacking the blue haired boy.
Kabuto seemed amused by this, almost like he had done it on purpose knowing the outcome. As I was still pre occupied with trying to slap the smirk off his face, some sound ninja attacked him. They took shared my thoughts it would seem.
Before further violence could ensure, the first proctor, Ibiki, arrived.
