Chapter 27
'Did you see the flyers for charity week?', asked Nadia as she joined Ethan, Aravind and I for lunch.
'Oh, it's started?', I asked taking a flyer from her.
'Next week. Are you coming or ditching it as usual?', she asked wryly.
'Depends on my mood', I shrugged and passed it to Ethan.
'Is this the program the first years have to lead?', he asked and I nodded.
'Oh, it has a special twist this time! They've planned a competition only for men to show off their feminine skills-'
'Sad', said Aravind.
'-And the winner gets immediate grace marks for their internals', finished Nadia.
'I'm in ', he corrected himself and looked at Ethan who did not look amused.
'You're gonna give your name?', I asked and Aravind nodded like a bobblehead.
'There are sporting events too if you're not interested in arts, Ethan. They invite teams from other universities and the money goes to the local hospitals', said Nadia.
Aravind let out a laugh when he heard the word 'sports' while Ethan sported a poker face.
'What am I missing here?', I asked.
'He sucks at games', grinned Aravind.
'I do not 'suck' at them, I'm just not interested', defended Ethan as he shifted uncomfortably in his seat.
'Oh yeah sure. Show him a bat or a ball and he'll suddenly become physically impaired', he scoffed.
'So what do you do when you're not busy brooding?', I asked and he gave me a deathly glare.
'He dances', answered Aravind and now it was my turn to look surprised.
'You dance?!', asked a stunned Nadia to which Ethan made a go away gesture with his hands.
'Can he dance?! You should see him!', started Aravind excitedly with mischief in his eyes.
'I swear if you-'
'Tutu, tiara and the whole swan lake!', he proclaimed.
'That's it you're dead', he said and scrambled to grab Aravind by his hood but he was too quick leaving Ethan with an empty jacket in his hands.
'You're a ballet dancer?', I asked amazed at this new piece of information and he suddenly looked uncomfortable as Nadia and I looked him up and down. It suddenly made sense why he had such an athletic figure.
'Why are you looking at me that way? Stop it', he said and quickly sat down while Aravind took cover behind me.
'He can do splits, jumps and-', but he was cut off by Ethan's second attempt which was blocked by using me as a human shield.
'Stop using Omi as a human shield and face me like a man', he growled.
'Did I hurt your feelings Nutcracker?', cackled Aravind and with a loud groan Ethan buried his face in his arms.
'No, no! This is cool! Why are you so ashamed of it?', I asked pushing Aravind off of me.
'Because there are idiots like him around', he said peering up his arms that only his eyes could be seen.
'I think it's amazing. What other styles do you know?', asked Nadia and Aravind let out an evil laugh.
'Don't. Even. Think. About. It', shot Ethan as he got up like a bullet poised with a soda can ready to aim at Aravind's head.
'You perform with me at the charity and I'll shut up', he grinned folding his arms.
'What's the point of that? You could just say it here instead of letting everyone know', scowled Ethan.
'Oh, Ethan. I don't care about the old boarding blackmail video anymore. I have something better now', he grinned and I watched as Ethan's face turned a bit pale.
'Whoa. What dirt do you have on him?', asked Nadia.
'Enough dirt to fill his grave', grinned Aravind.
'I hate you', said Ethan as he sat down.
'It's set!', clapped Aravind and sat next to his old friend who repelled him with a glare.
'But what other style does he dance?', I asked.
'I do contemporary', replied Ethan.
'Oh is that what you call it?', scoffed Aravind as he put his hoodie back on to which Ethan swiftly pulled its zipper all the way up his head.
'It's so delightful that it'll grace my way into the finals!', sighed Aravind as he pulled it down.
'You know I might actually come this time just to see what this is about', I grinned.
'But how did you get into dance?', asked Nadia.
'My Mum's a dancer. I watched her dance when I was little and she noticed that I could dance as well. I did acrobatics for a while and did ballet till I was seventeen', he said and smiled at the end which made it clear as day that he missed her.
'Why did you stop?', I asked.
'Didn't have time', he shrugged.
'Oh but he sure did put those acrobatic moves to good use', said Aravind.
'Do you have a death wish or something?', asked a bewildered Ethan.
'No, no go on! It's hard to get this man to talk', I said sipping my juice excitedly while ignoring Ethan's dumbstruck face.
'He used to be the guy everyone avoided getting into a fight with at uni', said Aravind rather proudly and I remembered how terrifying he had looked when he cornered Noah at the party.
'It's not something I take pride in', said Ethan through his teeth.
'Awh look at him being so humble. He is so quick on his feet and could do these amazing jumps that no one knew what was coming at them', said Aravind.
'Were you ever hurt?', asked Nadia and I looked at him but before he could reply Aravind said,
'Twelve stitches to the head because he got hit with a tile'
'Thank you for reminding me of the time I nearly died', smiled Ethan while his eyes read murder.
'Oh my gosh were you even conscious?', I asked.
'I must have been otherwise the person who chose to make the mistake of smashing it on my head wouldn't have ended up in the next bed with a broken rib', he said and we all stared at him.
'What on earth was going on at your architecture college? Someone stole your t-scale or something?', I asked.
'More like design', he replied wryly.
'Someone stole your design?', asked Nadia with large eyes.
'Oh, you guys should check out his portfolio. It was always out of this world. Ethan would be ten steps ahead of everyone in the class and some idiot decided to steal his design for a competition', explained Aravind.
'Why did you choose literature if you were so good at being an architect?', I asked and he looked at me. I knew that expression, it appeared whenever he didn't want to talk about certain things.
'I just wanted to do something different', he shrugged.
'Oh but the stolen design? Did he get away with it?', asked Nadia rescuing him from providing a proper answer.
'They didn't let either of them submit it. I mean you should have seen where they fought each other. It was like some scene from a movie and this idiot was bleeding all over me', cringed Aravind.
'I'll make sure to bleed somewhere else next time', smiled Ethan.
'What makes you think I'll even be there for a next time?', challenged Aravind.
'Do you want your grace marks or not?', he hissed.
'Bleed, vomit or die- I'll be there'.
