Train Rider
I'm so sorry that I take forever to upload. I can only write when inspiration hits. I apologize if this part is a bit boring or badly written. I'm trying to get to the exciting part as soon as possible. Thanks for sticking with me! I won't stop until this book is finished!
Let's just say that Danielle was not expecting to be here. On a train. Going far far from home.
As soon as Danielle had called a puppy-sitter for Sib, she was out the door and heading to her own house. She packed all her necessities in a backpack and grabbed some cash out of a money jar her parents kept in the kitchen for emergencies. It probably wasn't the best way to prepare, but Danielle was short on time, her parents would be home from work any minute. There was a train station a decent walk away, so no need for a form of transportation.
Danielle, to her surprise, didn't have any trouble sneaking onto the train. She basically just hid behind a really big guy as he was boarding.
Anyway, that's why she's currently on a train ride to St. Louis, Missouri. She was hiding next to a bunch of other kids and their mom. After all, the best place to hide was in plain sight.
The mother had 8 kids to watch, not including Danielle, so she probably wouldn't notice or care about one more. Probably just think one of her kids made a new friend. Plus, when the man came to ask for their tickets, she could hide behind all of them. Danielle doubted that he would actually bother to count the kids.
A few hours later Danielle was waking up from a much needed rest in the back of the train. She had gone for some peace and quiet at first, but now that she was alone with her thoughts the stress started to consume her. Had she rushed things? Should she have asked someone to help her? Could she even do this? Those were the questions Danielle was asking herself.
The truth was that Danielle had never done anything without Phyllis. Nothing quite as daring as this at least. Phyllis was always at her side, so she wasn't scared or nervous. This time though, Danielle could feel her insides doing backflips.
Just as she was contemplating her life choices, she started to hear something strange. Maybe it was just her ears, but she kept hearing a beeping noise. A patterned rhythm that gave her a sick feeling in her gut. It was driving her insane and she didn't even realize it until now.
Danielle got on her hands and knees and started looking around for the noise. She put her ear to the floor of the train, only to discover that the noise was getting farther away. She was getting frustrated, continuously crawling back and forth one way or the other. Danielle eventually stood up and scratched her head. Then, she noticed the sound was louder. She stepped up on the train seat to give her a boost towards the ceiling. It was there. Danielle forced her hand up, feeling around for a second or two, until she found the edge of a hidden panel. She slid the panel back and gasped at the timed bomb staring back at her.
Welp, that was me trying to write in a hurry. I will try to make an uploading schedule as soon as possible😬 (I'm sorry it's so short)
