Chapter 28: Weakling
Y/N's POV
"We're finally on the ground again." Toph sighed contently as she hopped down from Appa's saddle. "Great campsite choice, has really soft grass."
"That's not grass." Y/N commented as she hopped down next to her. "That's Appa's shedded fur. It's all over the place."
"Ewww." Katara grimaced, carefully climbing down in a place the hair didn't cover the ground. Aang and Sokka hopped down, grabbing handfuls of the fur and making mustaches and hats. "You guys are disgusting. At least us girls finally outnumber you."
Toph immediately grabbed some, holding it under her armpits, and making Katara facepalm. Aang and Sokka laugh, and Aang sneezes from the hair, launching him a few feet.
"Let them do their thing, Katara." Y/N laughed, and even her sister couldn't stifle her giggle.
It didn't take long to set up camp, and get some food going. Sokka and Aang started pitching tents, Katara gathered firewood, and Y/N started the food while Toph leaned against a rock. Y/N didn't care much, but Katara soon walked up to her only minutes in.
"Hey, Toph, so the way it works with our group is that we split the work among the group, and everyone pitches in."
"I'll carry my own weight, you don't have to worry." Toph waved her off, lounging against the rock.
"Maybe you didn't understand the first time..." Katara tried again.
"Look, honey, I don't know what you're on about, but I'm fine. Thank you!" Toph snapped, and Katara stormed away, disappearing into the woods, hopefully getting more firewood.
Y/N blew out a long breath, slowly stirring her soup. Maybe she wasn't glad Toph had joined the group. Her stubborn and stuck up attitude didn't clash well with Katara, and Y/N wasn't sure if she could deal with any drama. The Gaang already got into enough trouble as it was without any infighting.
She couldn't imagine how bad it could get, though.

Katara and Toph had another run-in before bed, but the tension in the air didn't seem too bad when they all hit the hay. Y/N fell asleep quickly, but hadn't even slept for two hours before Toph was yelling at them to get up.
"What is it?" She asked sleepily, looking down over the side of the saddle.
"There are these really strong vibrations I'm getting, and they're coming closer. It's like an avalanche, but not an avalanche..." Toph scrunched up her face, seeming as though she was studying something closely, but her milky eyes were as far off as always.
"Your powers of perception are frightening." Sokka said sarcastically. "Should we leave?"
"That would probably be the safest choice." Toph nodded. They quickly packed everything up, loading up on Appa and taking off. They looked back in the direction Toph indicated, and caught a glimpse of something in the darkness.
A tank like machine was rolling across the desert, going surprisingly fast.
"Something tells me they were coming for us." Y/N realized. "We should fly for at least a few hours to try losing them." The rest agreed, slumping sleepily against the sides of the saddle as they flew on.
Y/N slept on the way, easily snoring through the several hours they flew. The others, however, didn't catch a wink, apparently concerned about the pursuing machine, and Aang had to guide Appa.
There was another argument when they landed, Katara asking Toph again to help, her request again turned down. Toph made herself an earth tent, and slammed the "door".
"Did you just slam the door in my face?!" Katara demanded, earning a dismissive mutter from inside the tent.
"Guys, calm down." Aang tried to step in, only for Katara to whirl around, screaming at him.
"I'M COMPLETELY CALM!" Aang jumped back as spit flew.
It took a little bit to get everyone to actually calm down enough to sleep, and Y/N, like before, easily conked out, but woke up to more unnecessary and rather annoying comments.
"Wow, the stars sure are beautiful, aren't they?" Katara announced loudly. "Too bad you'll never be able to see them, Toph." A loud rumble, and Katara was launched into the air, landing on Sokka before rolling of onto Y/N.
"That's it!" Sokka yelled. "You two need to figure this out or we're gonna have serious issues here! The next time you-"
"I feel them again!" Toph said, quickly destroying her earth tent. "They're closer! We have to go, now."
Another quick pack up and they were in the air again, spotting the strange machine again.
"It's so fast." Katara muttered. "What is it? Who is chasing us?"
"Maybe it's Zuko." Aang looked back for a few moments. "We haven't seen him since up north, maybe he's finally catching up."
"Who is Zuko?" Toph asked, latched on to both Sokka and Y/N's arms as they flew. "He must be very important."
"He's the banished Fire Nation prince freak that's been chasing us all over the world." Sokka explained quickly with a sigh. "Why did you think he was so important?"
"It was good ol' Steady Flow here, her heart rate increased dramatically when you said his name." Toph smirked, prodding at Y/N's shoulder. "Something you aren't telling me, Y/N? I need all the details, catch me up." Y/N's face went red.
"Umm..." She mumbled. Katara was suddenly interested in her shoes, while Aang and Sokka exchanged confused looks before staring at Y/N. "I was on his ship for awhile when I was going after my siblings, that's basically it."
"I can tell when you're lying." Toph pointed out. Y/N tried pulling her arm away from the girl, startled, but Tooh held on. "Nope, I'm getting my information eventually, and it's terrifying up here. You're usually the calmest in the group. I'm holding onto you."

A few more stops, and getting back up, and Aang finally decides they should face whoever was inside the tank train. The rest agreed, getting in barely a wink before the tank arrived.
Three mongoose lizards crawled from the train, their riders easily recognizable.
"Great to see you three again." Y/N commented as they drew near, stopping a safe distance away. She was a bit sleepy, but after shaking off the feeling, she felt normal, while the rest of the team still looked a little sleep-deprived.
"Good to see you too!" Ty Lee exclaimed, clapping her hands together. Mai rolled her eyes, her typical bored expression nothing new, while Azula was as calm, collected, and content as ever. Y/N tensed as Azula's gaze fell on her.
"Decided to give up yet?" She asked, tilting her head to one side.
"Not quite. In fact, I like these odds, three on four." Toph cracked her knuckles, a smile spreading across her face.
"Hey, I'm here too!" Sokka complained.
"Okay. Three on four plus Sokka." She stopped as the three lizards moved forwards, and she quickly sent a boulder their way, but the lizards quickly climbed over.
"Time to leave?" Toph asked.

There was another argument after Appa crashed. Y/N was about ready to strangle the lot of them, especially when Aang got involved too, and not for peacemaking. Toph stormed off, and Aang flew away with a bag of fur, leaving Y/N and her siblings to keep going with Appa.
The poor bison soon crashed again, across a river, but the victory was short lived, as the lizards could run on water. Thankfully only Mai and Ty Lee were chasing them now, Azula probably going after Aang.
"We've been awake for more than 24 hours." Sokka whined as he drew his boomerang. Y/N had gone much longer without sleep in the past, and was actually feeling fine.
"Weakling." She laughed, standing next to the river to meet their attackers. "Feel the power of chronic insomnia."
