Chapter 3: Connor gets attacked by flying Monkeys

Special Dedication to Read_Write_hope! The answer was Robert Downey Jr! Enjoy!

"I'm David Noland!" David said holding his hands back in a peace motion. "Prince Charming."

Connor was supporting Travis and his broken ankle. Frank and the boys shared a look. A look as if saying Who-is-this-lamo? David scrunched his brow. How could they not know who he was?

Suddenly Frank was surrounded but green smoke and he looked around wildly.

"What in Pluto?!" He yelled before the smoke completely covered him and disappeared with a bang that blasted him off his feet.

"Charming!" Grumpy yelled trying to help him up.

David shoulders slumped. The Wicked Witch has struck again. "Do we ever get a break?" He asked dejectively.

Connor POV.

Connor Stoll wasn't planning to be falling from the sky that day. He and Travis had been planning to submerge the Demeter cabin in grape jelly. He'd been planning on hijacking the intercoms at camp and setting up a DJ station. He'd been planning to embarrass Travis and Katie when they went on their date next week. But he definitely had not been planning on falling from the sky with his older brother, holding paintball guns infused with celestial bronze, when a minute ago he had been trying to take out the Hellhounds that had attacked Piper.

Yep that wasn't on his to do list.

Connor and Travis hit the ground hard.

"Hey Connor," Travis groaned.

"Yeah Travis?"

"I don't think falling from the sky was on my to do list today."

"Mine either."

"When is it ever?" Connor jumped, surprised to see they hadn't been alone when they were swept off the battle field. Frank Zhang moaned as he sat up and looked around. "Where are we?"

Connor followed his gaze around the clearing they were in. Apparently they had landed in a forest. Connor felt a strange tension in the air, as if something was watching them, waiting for them to do something. As if that wasn't creepy enough, there wasn't a sound in the air. Travis laughed nervously. Frank shifted his weight.

Connor froze. He could have sworn he just saw something.

"Guys...I propose we leave..." Connor said taking a slow step away from the direction he'd seen the blurb. The leaves crackled under his step. The hairs on the back of his next stood up on end.

"What was that?" Travis asked shakily pointing behind Connor. Connor whipped around stumbling back towards The group. Frank notched an arrow silently, peering into the trees. Connor felt his hand move subconsciously to his pack that held a misellaneous bunch of pranking supplies, which could just as easily be used as a series of very dangerous, very effective weapons.

"DUCK!" Frank yelled. Travis and Connor slammed to the ground spraying dirt and leaves everywhere. That was the last of their problems.

Screeching filed the air as dozens of gray haired creatures leapt down from the tree tops. Connor pulled out a fist full of golden celestial bronze itching powder, and threw it at the one coming straight for him.

The creature shrieked in agony as it slowly disintegrated. Connor noticed that they weren't like the other monsters he'd faced, but barely had time to think about it. Another one came at him. Connor raised his gun hoping his dad, Hermes, would be able to see them.

"Eat paint!" He yelled, laughing as he shot pink, orange, green, and blue splatters all around him. He could see Travis whooping out of the corner of his eye. Frank turned himself into a hawk, disregarding his bow at such close fights, and took the fights to the air.

"Connor!" Travis yelled.

"Yeah?"

"We should run."

"No kidding!"

Connor splattered a creature, which he had decided looked like a monkey with wings, and it screamed diving towards him. Connor stumbled back luckily the creature fell to pieces right in front of him. Connor felt a vague memory surface. That story of flying Monkeys, sparkle shoes, a tornado...He couldn't place where he heard the story, mostly because he was too busy trying to stay alive, but he remembered bits and pieces of it.

Connor whipped around killing the flying Monkeys in a flurry of green, blue, and yellow. Adrenalin pumped in his veins he smiled feeling quite in control of this battle. Yep, the kid with the paint gun was taking control.

That must have been when his gun ran out of ammo.

Connor clicked the trigger but nothing came out. He stood there for a second before he got the message. Then he started yelling Greek curses and dived away from the flying monkey.

"Maia!" Connor yelled, suddenly remembering he had awesome flying shoes- a gift from his dad after his first quest with Travis and Katie. Tiny wings popped out of his sneakers and started fluttering wildly as Connor ducked and served out of the way of another flurry of feathers.

Connor cried out as white hot pain raced across his shoulder. With a snap his satchel's strap broke sending all its contents, most of his pranking supplies mind you, scattering to the ground. He never knew wings could be so sharp. He instinctively grabbed his throbbing shoulder knowing it would come back sticky with his own blood.

"Travis look out!" Frank yelled somehow back in his human form.

"I'm Connor, not Travis!" Connor yelled diving for the forest floor with a winged creature on his heels. At the last second he shot upwards and the monkey slammed into the ground conveniently on top of a celestial bronze itching powder bomb.

"Sorry you both look the same." Frank said picking off another one the monsters. Connor shrugged, which turned out to be a mistake. Fire tracked down his arm causing him to yelp out in pain. "We really need to go! There's too many to take out!"

"Pick a direction!" Travis yelled. "Dad will help!"

Connor hoped his brother was right. Their dad after all was the Gods of mischief, thieves, and travelers. Hopefully he could lead them back to camp, possibly. But knowing their luck, Connor knew that probably wasn't going to happen.

Frank took off in a random direction swiping some of Connors misellaneous prank/weapons of the forest floor as he went. Travis and Connor followed weaving through the trees expertly just as if they were playing Capture the Flag back at camp. But then why did Connor feel as if he was the Flag instead of the player?

Frank shot arrows at the creatures, slowly dwindling down the number chasing them. Travis tried to help but he tripped on his feet when he turned.

Connor saw a clearing up ahead, and thank the Gods a road. And people! Connor got the feeling in his gut that they weren't normal people.

"I was just thinking about something." Travis said as causally as he could while running for his life.

"You mean why does this-" Connor started.

"-Always happen?" Travis grinned.

Well it's not every day you end up fighting wars or battles with some random monster-wait never mind. That was every day in a Demigod life.

Suddenly Travis was swiped off the ground yelling Greek curses. "Erre es korakas!"

"Travis!" Frank yelled. Connor stood frozen, horrified. He got a quick flash of life without his brother. And He REALLY didn't like it. Frank wound back and threw something with a golden flash.

Connor realized that it was his signature Flash Bang, that he usually filled with whip cream, but this time it was filled with celestial bronze dust.

The monkey let go of his brother and Travis yelped as he went sprawling back to the ground. But before he became a Travis colored splatter, he was snatched back up into the air.

Connor realized he didn't have any way to save his pranking buddy, so in an act of desperation, he threw his paintball gun at the moving target. It hit Travis.

"Connor!" Travis and Frank yelled.

"Not helping!" Frank hissed. Frank notched one of his last two arrows and let go. For a second Connor thought it was going to hit Travis.

And then Travis was falling.

"Maia! Maia!" He yelled causing his shoes to flap furiously, but he was falling too fast and Connor heart skipped a beat as Travis slammed awkwardly on his ankle.

"Travis!" Connor bolted to his brother his shoulder still on fire. He gritted his teeth, trying to focus on Travis's ankle.

"It hurts, Connor." Travis hissed. "I-I think it's broken. I didn't bring and ambrosia or nectar."

"Holy Hera, neither did I." Connor said worriedly. "Come on. Lean on me. Just not this shoulder." Travis and Connor somehow managed to stand up, despite the pain.

They noticed Frank talking to an older guy, holding some sort of sword. Connor could barely see the engravings well, but they didn't look Greek or Roman.

"I'm David Nolan." The guy said "Prince Charming."

Connor looked at him in confusion, mirrored by both Frank and Travis's faces. Prince? Where did they end up? Charming? Who name's their kid that?! Connor got a sinking feeling in his stomach.

Suddenly, thick green fog swirled around Frank, not too different from the mist the old Oracle had made before Rachel had taken on her.

"What in Pluto?!" Frank yelled swatting it away but it quickly covered him and then it seemed to explode with energy. Connor was knocked backward landing roughly on his bloody shoulder and then his head slammed into a moss covered rock.

The last thing the sons of Hermes saw was seven very short men with axes. For a brief second before Connor loss consciousness he could have sworn they were dwarves.

But those were just fairy tales...right?
