Understandings and Kisses
I woke up in my bed at Burnie's and turned off the annoying alarm my phone was giving off. I groaned and stretched out my stiff limbs. My night's rest had been a good one until I had the nightmare with Will in it. It always ended with him stabbing me in the stomach with knife. I shivered at the faint memory of the nightmare.
I dragged myself towards the wardrobe and pulled out a nice, light yellow sundress. The air inside the house was really warm, so I knew it would probably be the same outside. I rushed to the shower, beating Burnie who was about to step into the bathroom. He jumped back when he saw my body brush by and the door close in his face.
"Hey! That's not fair!" He said, pounding on the door.
"Ladies first!" I yelled back and remembered what I said to Gavin about me not being a lady. I smiled at the memory and turned on the shower. I stripped off my Star Wars night shirt and also my blue pyjama bottoms and stepped into the shower. The warm water sprayed my face, making me sigh in contentment.
Five minutes later, I exited the shower and dried every inch of myself. I then throw on my underwear and bra then my sundress, smiling at myself in the mirror. I planned on being happy today and wearing bright colours is definitely going to support the happiness I was feeling inside. I dried my hair off with Burnie's hair dryer, while combing my fingers through the rough knots. Once dry, I let my long, pink hair fall down to the middle of my back and I apply a small amount of make-up. After my bathroom routine, I stared at myself in the mirror and grinned back at my reflection approvingly.
I exited the bathroom and walked down the hallway into the kitchen. Joe the cat was sitting on the counter. He watched me as I began a new pot of coffee. I scratched his ear and smiled when his head started to rub against my wrist.
"Finally!" I heard Burnie yell down near the bathroom. The door closed shut and I laughed, petting Joe some more.
Burnie drove us up to the office. Once inside, I immediately went to Barbara. She was inside Joel's office, obviously bugging the hell out of him.
"Come on Joel, Please?!" Barbara whined and clasped her hands together.
"No. I'm not your puppet." He said and waved his hand at her. Once I stepped inside they both looked at me. Barbara's eyes lit up once she saw how dressed up and pretty I looked.
"Oh my god, you look so beautiful, Piglet!" She smiled and hugged me tight.
"Thanks," I giggled and hugged her back. "What's going on in here?"
"She's bugging me. Please take her with you." Joel begged and I did as I was told. I brought Barbara to the Achievement Hunter office, but before we could enter Barabara stopped us.
"You and Gavin went on a lunch date, huh?" She smiled at me.
"What? How'd you find out?"
"Michael and Ray. They aren't really that great at keeping secrets." She giggled.
"Those dirty bastards," I said quietly. "Okay, yes, but it was more of a friendly outing."
"Then why did he kiss your cheek so sensually?" She leaned in, smiling much bigger.
"How the bloody hell could you possibly know that happened and by the way, it wasn't sensual at all." I said, shaking my head.
"Well, you weren't exactly hidden. You were at the front door! Which is glass, so you can see through it, dummy," She poked my forehead and I stepped back, not liking the poke. "Kara saw and she told me immediately. Since she heard about what Burnie said about you being "off limits", she hasn't told anyone else. Not even Michael or Ray."
"Well, like I said before Barbs, It was a friendly outing. Remember our conversation, blondie? I'm not dating any co workers" I said, my voice sounding annoyed.
"Sure sure. I wonder what your children's names will be?" I groaned and walked inside the office. Ray, Michael, Geoff and Jack were inside. Gavin was absent from the group. They all looked up at me and everyone's face changed as they saw me.
"Damn. Look at you." said Michael. Luckily Lindsay wasn't right there, Michael's fiance, otherwise she might have slapped his head. He smiled at my appearance "If I wasn't already taken I would jump on you in a heartbeat."
I blushed and walked over to my chair and swiveled in it slowly. All eyes still on me. I realized Barbara was missing.
"Thanks? I guess that's a compliment." I laughed.
"I think it was more than a compliment," said Ray. "You do look great though, Jay." He smiled and went back to his work. I was surprised Geoff didn't intervene at Michael's comment, but it's probably because he's not single like Ray or Gavin.
"Hey Micool, there weren't any Redbulls so I got-" Gavin stood in the doorway, two sodas in hand and a face that looked dazed. He was staring right at me. His eyes were grazing over me and I couldn't help my cheeks from growing red.
"Gavin...Gavin...GAVIN!" yelled Michael. Gavin looked startled and looked over at his best friend.
"Sorry...um...what?"
"You were handing me my drink." Michael reached over and Gavin handed him his soda. Luckily, Geoff didn't notice Gavin's staring eyes. Michael thanked Gavin with middle finger and went back to editing his Rage Quit.
I turned around in my seat and clicked on the Let's Play that was saved on the desktop. I started editing with my headphones on. Every now and then I would turn around and find Gavin staring at me.
I could feel his stare plunging into my back whenever I turned around. I soon became fed up with it and decided to confront him about it, but of course, secretly.
"Hey Gavin? Can I talk to you? It's about the Let's Play." I lied, standing up.
"Yeah, sure thing, love." Geoff glared over at Gavin when he called me "love", but Gavin only followed me out the office and around the corner where no one was.
"Okay so, what do you-" Before he could finish, I cut him off.
"Gavin, I need to say this," He waited. "Do you like me?" He paused for a moment, not sure how to respond.
"Well, yeah of course. You're on of my friend's. It would be hard not to like you." He smiled.
"No, I mean as in...a crush way." I waited for his answer.
"Oh." He scratched his head and stared down at me with those beautiful green eyes of his. "In that case...yes." He placed his hand under my chin and looked down at me. I didn't move, but sighed, not wanting my next words make him upset.
"Look, Gavin. After my break up with Will, I became different. I can't trust nor be part of a relationship. Especially with a co worker. I promised Burnie I wouldn't date anyone while I work here and I plan on keeping that prmise."
I waited for a response, but nothing came from Gavin's mouth. He only stared at me, his hand still holding my chin.
"But I wouldn't treat you the way he did. I would care for you, make you feel special. Make you laugh and smile that amazing smile of yours." His hand moved from my chin to my cheek and cupped it. My heart started beating faster. From fear or want?
"Gavin, I've only known you for a week..."
"Well, we can hang out more. Just us and get to know each other. I'm willing to try. The first day I saw you, I wanted to be close to you." He stroked my blushing cheek.
"Gavin..." Before I could say what was on my mind, his lips landed on mine. My eyes widened, but they soon fluttered shut and I leaned in to the kiss. My hands rested on his chest while his arms were clasped around my waist. The kiss was tender and sweet. Memories filled my head back to Will. How he was soft and gentle and loving at the beginning of our relationship, but soon he changed into a monster and used his every bit of strength on me with his fist. I broke away from the kiss and looked away. I felt Gavin's hands still on my waist. I pulled them off me and looked up at him.
"What's wrong?" He asked. He could probably see the fear in my eyes as I looked back in his.
"I can't. I'm too scared to do anything like this." I remembered where we were and made sure tears didn't spill from my eyes. Gavin stayed back, seeing that I needed some space.
"It's okay, Jay. I won't push you into anything you don't want to do. When you're ready to be in a relationship, just remember this crazy bloke right here. " He smiled reassuringly and I couldn't help, but laugh and smile back. I hugged him around the waist and I felt his arms go around me.
"Thank you, Gavin. You really are a great friend." I said.
"We should go back to the guys." He said. I nodded slowly and we both went back to the office, side by side.
Sorry this chapter is kind of short, but I'm in the middle of a project while I typed this xD Hopefully you guys like it so far and I'm sorry if you wanted Gavin and Jane's relationship to already begin, but I thought I should add in her fear of another relationship. Btw some feedback would be absolutely amazing! Love you all!
