The Wedding Part 1
---> Jane's dress to the right!
"I'm still scared." I said, fanning myself with my hand as Lindsay and Barbara made the train of my dress flow out behind me. The seamstresses had gotten the measurements right, everything was placed and prepared outside, and Gavin was waiting for me. Why was I so scared? Maybe it was because I was about to place something on my finger that would tie me to another person forever or it could be the Appendicitis Gavin and I discovered the day I had the sharp pains.
After that check up, I was throwing up and had a low fever. Gavin made sure to baby me the whole time as I laid curled up in bed, feeling the sharp pains come and go like tidal waves. It was scary the day of the surgery. The long wait, the pains, and the fact that knowing my babies were in the middle of all of this was even worse. I hoped they weren't suffering at all. What caused the Appendicitis?
The same person who will never leave my mind or life, the person who had traumatised me all of my fucking life. Will. Every hit or kick was a point towards the issue. The doctor was actually surprised I didn't feel something earlier; she guessed the pregnancy amplified the pains.
"He's out there, waiting for you," Barbara said, her silk red dress accenting her full crimson lips and dark blue eyes. "Then after this, we'll have an amazing reception, he'll tear the garter right off your sexy leg and you'll toss the bouquet to me, of course," I giggled along with her, my hand pressing to my slightly enlarged stomach. "Then, it's off to New Zealand for a nice and relaxing honeymoon with the love of your life." She kissed my forehead. "Oops, left some lipstick there." She wiped it off.
"I know, I know," I sighed nervously, running a hand through my longer pink curls. I had insisted on dyeing my hair to my natural golden locks, but Gavin refused. He said he wanted to see my 'beautiful, pink locks on his wedding day.' "Is my make-up okay?" I asked them both.
"Perfect." Lindsay smiled. A knock on the door had me turn my head to see my mum coming in, her blond hair up in a tight bun and wearing a navy blue cocktail dress with a baby blue seethrough shawl around her shoulders.
"Oh, God look at you," She already choked up, dabbing her fingertips under her eyes. "My baby's getting married!" She came over and gave me a small squeeze.
"Mum, I should be the one crying." I chuckled, feeling the tears building themselves in my eyes. I rubbed her shoulder and led her to the white loveseat in the bride's waiting room. The trees sprouting from the ground in each corner had me more relaxed, trying to subtle my breaths that ran quickly from behind my lips.
"Yes, you should, but you're strong and going to get married!" She hiccuped as she teared up some more. "Oh! I almost forgot," She turned around the silver purse she had around her arm and dug through it to retrieve something. She pulled out a box with a bow on top and a small bag I hadn't noticed she carried.
"What are these?" I asked, sitting beside her gently.
"Well, I know you have the blue garter on," She chuckled as my cheeks were probabaly a light pink. "But you need something old, borrowed and new. I want you to have these," She handed me the box. I opened the first one with the red bow to find sapphire earrings and a crystalline bracelet. "The earrings were your grandmother's. She wore them when she married your granddad making it something old and the bracelet was mine, when I married your father, so something borrowed." She grinned and helped place them on me.
I then turned to the next one, the silver and blue bag. I removed the tissue paper from inside and what I found had my rosy cheeks turn a scarlet red. "Mum..." I whispered as I eyed the black, lace and red lingerie set she had placed in there.
"I know you can't change into them, but they're new. It's for the honeymoon," She winked at me. Lindsay and Barbara's faces were priceless as I slowly moved the bag away and they helped me up again. I pulled down my lacework sleeves and breathed out, today was the day.
"Let me just put a final touch," Kara said from walking out of the bathroom. "You kind of detatched your mascara." She giggled and flitted the mascara wand against my lashes, making them darker and fuller. Another knock on the door had me almost jump out of my skin. A large, lean man walked in and I smiled instantly when I saw my dad with his dark grey eyes and nice suit with a rose bud sticking out of his pocket.
"Almost time, dear." He said, his Irish accent seeping out from his controlled voice. I could tell he was trying to be strong, no matter how much he wanted to cry.
"Okay," I huffed out, smoothing my white dress down my stomach. "H-Has anyone seen Bree?" I asked everyone. When Lindsay gave me the address to her whereabouts, I found out it belonged to Brad. I asked if she was there, but he said she wasn't, making me wonder where she could possibly be.
"No, hun," My dad said, putting an arm around me. I stilled back the tears and nodded. "I'm sorry."
"I-It's fine." I smiled weakly at him as he helped me out with the girls and my mum following closely behind. I only had Barbara, Lindsay, Kara, and Millie as my bridesmaids. I had asked Carrie, who was here along with her brother and Danny, if she wanted to be a bridesmaid, but she said she has been one for too long, so I said she could take a break. As for Ryan, he didn't want to be a groomsman and wanted to make sure his kids didn't 'ruin' anything, so he said he would keep with the wife and children.
Michael, Ray, Geoff, Jack, and Gavin's brother were waiting by the doors to start the long march down the aisle. I could hear the soft harp music in the room beyond the heavy wooden doors before me.
"Wow, you are beautiful." Geoff smiled and kissed my cheek.
"Gorgeous." Ray nodded.
"Amazing." Jack and George said.
"Hot." Michael gave me a cheeky grin, making me smile big.
"Stunning." A familiar voice said from the side and I noticed Burnie there, already in a suit and his curly hair brushd out.
"B-Burnie," I smiled and tried to rush over, my heels and baby bump making it difficult, but I managed to fall into his arms and squeeze him tight. "I thought you weren't gonna come." I said, pulling back.
"I wouldn't miss your wedding for the world," He smiled a side smile and kissed the top of my head. "Plus, Gavin made sure I was here, not even caring if he would be fired for yelling at me to get my 'bloody arse' down here." He tried immitating Gavin and we all laughed. As I turned my eyes, I noticed a small silouhette behind him, wrapped in a dark red dress that touched her black heels. Her black hair was straight again, her fringe pinned back with two bobby pins and dangling crystal earrings tucked against the flesh of her earlobes.
"Bree?" My smile grew bigger as I stepped toward her. I grasped her hands to make her look up at me and I pulled her into my arms, kissing the side of her head. "I'm so glad you're here!"
"R-Really?" She pulled away, her eyes wide with disbelief.
"Yes, definitely." I shrugged.
"I-I heard about Barbs being Maid of Honour, I understand..." She was cut off by Barbara.
"I would be happy to give you that title back, if Jane doesn't mind?" The blond tilted her head at me, making me nod and look back to my sad, broken best friend. No matter what crime or distasteful thing she does or will do, I will always love her with everythng I have. Just like I know, that even though he doesn't want to admit it, Ray will too.
"Alright, then!" Bree giggled as I pulled her to the front of the wedding train, making her wrap arms with Michael. I saw the sweet and small gesture her and Ray did to each other; a small smile and a nod. George and Barbs paired up along with Lindsay and Ray, then Millie and Geoff, and lastly Kara and Jack. Burnie still stood there, his hands tucked away in his pockets. Lindsay grabbed everyone's bouquet from the small table beside me--mine being roses and the other girls having white lillies.
"Burnie," I called to him, making him meet his brown eyes with my green ones. "Can you help my dad guide me down the aisle? I don't think he'll be a great navigator." I giggled as my dad gasped in mock hurt, but he knew what I was doing.
"You want me to go down the aisle with you?" Burnie asked.
"Yeah. I want my two father figures with me." I reached out and looped my right arm through his left, tightening my grip on both my dad's and Burnie's arms. I could hear the guests behind the doors and I knew that the love of my life was waiting behind them as well.
"Ready?" Both of my father figures whispered and I nodded. Michael rapped on the door, letting the ushers know they were ready to start the ceremony. I would be a fool to say I had full confidence and a strong willed mind, but my heart was racing more than a racecar on a speedway. The voices quieted down on the other side as the harp music changed into a piano soft tune. The doors opened enough for Michael and Bree to enter, not letting anyone see my bride splendor.
"Oh wow, I'm getting married." I chuckled and shook my head.
"I thought this day would never come," My dad said and I glared up at him but he laughed and gave me a smirk. "But you proved me wrong, love."
"Thanks, dad." I said sarcastically, but I smiled too. Next, George and Barbs made their entry, having everyone scoot up a bit.
"Having second thoughts?" Burnie asked. "Because it's fine if you do. Every bride sometimes deals with that--"
"Burnie, I know what you're doing, so shut up." I gave him a playful smile, making him laugh and pat my hand. Ray and Lindsay went after, her silk red dress swishing against the floor.
"You know, you never told me you had children." I said to Burnie.
"Oh, yeah. Well, Teddy and JD live with their mother. I was going to bring it up, but I had never gotten around to it." He shrugged. Geoff and Millie made the next appearance, her short velvet, red dress with a white bow attached moving up and down with her skipping.
"Gavin told me what you did, by the way." I smirked as I stared straight ahead at the doors. One more couple until it's me.
"What?" He asked.
"How you bought our honeymoon plane tickets and that you tried to buy the hotel suite, but Gavin refused." I laughed. Kara and Jack finally left, her blood red dress tight and beautiful on her.
"Yeah, well," He cleared his throat. "I had to make up for being a complete dick." He shrugged. I laughed and nodded.
"Yes, you were. But that's why I love you, Michael Burns." He groaned as I used his actual name. The doors were completely closed by now, the ushers letting us know that when I'm ready to just tap on the door.
"Deep breaths and good thoughts." My dad said, kissing my temple and bringing my arm closer around his. I shifted on my feet, my stomach making me feel heavier and heavier by the minute.
"Good thoughts as in reclaiming your job at Roosterteeth and becoming full time manager." Burnie whispered and I swung my head around to stare at him. He winked at me through his glasses before knocking on the door.
"Wait." I said.
"You're ready." He said, almost sternly but knowing and he was right: I am ready. One of the ushers popped his head and asked if I actually was ready and before I knew it, I nodded and smiled. He closed it again, hearing him saying,"All stand for the bride." I took two deep breaths before looking down at my feet once the music played and the doors swung open. The music wasn't the traditional wedding march, but a piano and harp mix, making me feel a little more at peace.
I wanted to lift my head as Burnie and my dad walked me slowly down. I made sure not to trip over my stupid heels. Come on, Jane. You have to look up. You want to see his reaction to you, whether it's nervousness, regret, happiness, anything. So, look up!
I eased my head up, searching for the groom of this wedding. When I spotted him, he was smiling brightly, his hands clasped in front of himself and his messy hair that I love oh so much was it's usual tousle. His green eyes were shining with adoration and love that I was glad to see. He leaned over to where Michael was, the curly haired boy whispering something in his ear. Gavin rolled his eyes, but an amused smile appeared on his face. I saw my mother's face in the audience, her mascara already running and her hands shaking.
When we finally reached to where Gavin and the preacher was, I smiled; a truly genuine smile. "Who gives the bride away?" The preacher asked, his light southern drawl moving out slowly.
"We do." Burnie and my dad said together, making me and everyone else chuckle. They both kissed my cheek tenderly before I reached my hand up where it fitted perfectly into Gavin's warm one. He placed another hand on the small of my back, helping me up the wooden steps. The large tree that rooted through floor and ceiling was grand, making this truly magical. I handed the bouquet over to Bree, she winked at me as she took it.
"Thank you." I whispered to Gavin as the preacher said the usual words.
"For what, love?" He said back, leaning a little closer to the side to speak to me.
"Calling Burnie up. I'm so glad you did." I smiled to him.
"Anything for you, babe." He rubbed the back of my hand with his thumb, easing me down. My bridesmaids were all lined up--Millie smiling big and Kara was actually sniffling. Bree gave me a little thumbs up while holding my bouquet and hers.
"Now for the vows. I do believe the bride and groom have arranged their own," The preacher nodded and smiled to us. "The groom first." Gavin took a deep breath as he turned to me, smiling his cheeky and adorable smile, his green eyes were a pigment green, a few brown specks slashed through them.
"Jane. You may think you know how much I love you, but you seriously don't know. I've never actually been one for love or anything serious, but when you stepped through the door of the AH office your first day and smiled with that gorgeous smile of yours and that wild pink mane I love so much, you completely changed my idea on the whole matter. I never thought I would find love or be loved by someone as beautiful, smart, amazing, and adorable as you. You have made me the most happiest person in this bloody world, even though it still does infuriate me how much better at video games you are than me." Everyone chuckled at his statement.
"You and me both, buddy." Ray called out, earning some more laughs, including from me and Gavin.
"Thanks for that interruption, Ray," Gavin chuckled and placed a hand on my cheek and the other on my stomach. "You are something special that I am glad to have held on to. Not only are you the love of my life, but also my partner in crime, my best friend, and the mother of my children. I am so thankful for you and for the strength you have arranged during the worst times of your life. Thank you for being the one to capture my heart and for giving me two wonderful children that I will adore as much as I do you." He finished. I realised I was in tears, the streams falling down my cheeks and I let out a small sniffle. He kissed both of my cheeks, wiping the tears away from my cheeks.
"Now for the bride." The preacher nodded. I let out a shaky breath as I tried to control my feelings. I was so surprised that Gavin Free, the one that wasn't ever serious or mature, was spilling his heart out to me with so much emotion and beautiful words that I have never heard used rightly in all of my life.
"Okay," I breathed out. "Excuse me if you can't hear over my crying," I said to the audience, making them laugh in an agreeable way. "Gavin, you have no idea how much of an impact you are in my life. I was suffering so much back home with things I dare not mention again, but you always seemed to make me forget them--with your sweet words, kisses, and immature moments," I laughed with a new set of tears. He brushed them away, but it was no use--they would keep coming. "I wasn't expecting to find the love of my life when I joined Roosterteeth. I was expecting video games and a bunch of nerdy guys," I said, making everyone laugh and Gavin as well. "Every night I spent with you helped thread back the shattered pieces in myself from the past damage. You made sure I was well cared for, seen as beautiful, loved, and most of all free," I choked as I let a sob out.
"If it wasn't for you, I'd be back in my years of therapy and darkness. You have helped me through so much and I am so glad you're in my life," I cried out. "I am so glad to be the mother of your children and I am so happy that you are their father because I wouldn't want anyone else. Thank you so much for having me finally free from depression and heartbreak. I love you so much." I finally blurted out, my voice wavering and clouded with sobs. Gavin smiled lovingly and pushed back a stray curl from my face. I could hear cries and sniffling coming from the audience as we said our vows and I haven't felt so happy in years to be saying something like this to someone I love so deeply.
"Now, for the rings." The preacher said. I turned, my eyes still watering. Barbs handed up Gavin's ring and gave it to Bree who handed it to me. I looked back to Gavin, him holding the new wedding ring I would be wearing, almost similar to my engagment ring, but with an engravement he told me he did: 'melmë endanyo' which means Love of My Heart in Elvish. Gavin thought it would be funny to do this, but what he doesn't know is that I was more in love with him when he added something of my childhood and favourite thing in the world.
"Repeat after me, please." The preacher said. "Do you Gavin David Free take Jane to be your wife? To have and to hold? Forsaking others? For richer or for poorer? In sickness and in health? For better or for worse? Until your last remaining days?"
"I do." Gavin smiled at me as he slid the ring onto my shaking hand. He calmly pressed both hands against it, rubbing them back and forth to try and soothe me.
"And do you, Jane Elizabeth Downing take Gavin as your husband? To have and to hold? Forsaking others? For richer or for poorer? In sickness and in health? For better or for worse? Until your last remaining days?" He closed the folder he was reading from and clasped his hands together.
"I do." I smiled, tears never ceasing as I slid on his silver wedding band.
"Then by the power invested in me, I now declare you as husband and wife. You may now kiss your beautiful bride." Gavin didn't even hesitate as he grabbed my cheeks with his hands and passionately kissed me, his lips soft and gentle. I heard the audience cheer as I grabbed onto his tux collar, pulling him closer and smiling into the kiss, my tears making the moving of our lips a little more wet. Ray, Michael, and Geoff were all hollering and my bridesmaids were yelling with joy.
I pulled away, smiling at my husband. "I love you, Gavin Free." I whispered.
"I love you, Jane Free." He smiled and kissed me again, having everyone cheer louder.
