Surprise and Welcome Home

So, I totally missed Gavin's birthday, so if you don't mind, I'm going to put it in this one :)

(Jane's POV)

My flight had landed in Austin, Texas only five minutes ago and I was thrilled to see the familiar landscape and feel the heat that rolled through the front of the airport. It was Gavin's birthday today, making me want to surprise him with my appearance. I had ignored his calls for a reason--so I could surprise him today and because I had process the thought of me being pregnant. My dad was happy to know that I was following my dream--my true dream. Being with Gavin was the best thing for me, he had said, and that I should follow him wherever he goes. Carrie said the same thing and threatened that if I let him go, she was going to make me choke on her fist....she wasn't kidding.

It probably sounded selfish that I didn't reply to Gavin, but it was going to be worth it. I would tell him about my pregnancy--I even have the stick from a few days ago, the answer frozen on the tiny screen. I had called Bree before I left and she was absolutely ecstatic about my arrival. I didn't tell her about the news because I wanted Gavin to be the first one here to know. He was the father, for God's sake.

"You're lucky I'm not mad at you." Bree smiled, hugging me tightly. Michael and Ray were by the car, smiling at the scene before them. I missed them so much it was impossible to say there was one moment where they left my mind. Which has never happened.

"He doesn't know, right?" I asked her. She nodded and I felt relieved that they kept my arrival a secret. "Okay, good. So, the Podcast is on right now?"

"Yeah. It just started 20 minutes ago," She nodded as we made our way into the car--with Michael driving. "Burnie said to come in whenever." As we pulled away I was starting fe very excited and I couldn't wait to surprise Gavin.

________

(Gavin's POV)

"Well, Happy Birthday to you." Gus said and they all popped balloons, having some girls in the back shriek.

"Thanks," I smiled, taking a swig from my beer. "So, what'd you guys get me?" I asked.

"There are a bunch of strippers in the back," Burnie grinned, pointing behind him. "But I think they're too busy with Kerry and Miles." We all heard their fake 'woohoos' from the back, making us all laugh again. I was feeling really happy and not angry like I have been this past week. With Jane ignoring my calls constantly, I gave up and hoped she would just call me back, but she hasn't.

I told myself she was fine and maybe she already knew, so she was just trying to comprehend the whole thing, but anger kept consuming my right of mind. I found myself clenching my fists or talking to myself out of frustration. Ray, Bree, and Michael have tried to calm me down, sometimes succeeding, but I was just getting fed up with Jane ignoring me.

"I got you a dildo. You can thank me later." Barbs said and I rolled my eyes at her, but smiled from her childish answer.

"I'm sure he'll use it tonight." Burnie laughed, pulling out his laptop. "Alright, lets discuss some Game of Thrones shit. Did you guys see Sunday's episode?" I tuned him out as I stared idly at my beer bottle.

________

(Jane's POV)

"Just wait after the Podcast," Bree said, filing her nails as we got off the highway. "So, you guys can have more privacy. We'll," She motioned to her, Ray, and Michael. "leave the AH office."

"Just don't fuck around in there." Michael said, his smirk showing on his face and I pushed him lightly from the backseat. I was getting very excited. I know I'm a complete bitch for ignoring my fiancé's calls, but it wouldn't be a surprise if I told him. I knew of I spoke with Gavin, I would most likely spill my plans, so if ignoring him was for the best until I came here.

Hopefully, he wasn't mad at me.

________

As we pulled up to the new buildings they told me about, I gaped at how much bigger it was. It was at least three or four times the size of the old place.

"Wow, you weren't kidding." I said. As we all climbed out, Bree was getting giddy as she held Ray's hand, her feet skipping along the pavement as we reached the doors. Everyone knew I was coming, even Burnie, and they made sure to keep it a secret from Gavin.

"Oh, Jane!" Kara was the first to hug me, her lavender perfume closing sound is. I missed the shorter girl and how she had her short blond locks tied into two pigtails and her pierced ears were always holding different earrings. "I'm so glad you're here!"

"Feels good to be back," I giggled. Even though it was only two weeks, it felt like an eternity. I actually am happy that Gavin proposed and my pregnancy happening, otherwise I would still be in England. Which isn't a bad thing, but I wouldn't be here. "Is he in the office?"

"I would think so. The Podcast just ended, so he's packing up. Geoff made an excuse to visit Burnie for a little before they left to give you both more time." She smiled.

"Awesome." I smiled and followed the other three to the room.

"Okay, we'll just get our stuff and leave, then you'll come in." Ray said. I nodded as they entered to retrieve their things. I was hopping on both feet as I waited. I practically ignored Gavin for a whole week--a selfish thing, I know. I feel bad for doing so and I wish I didn't do it, but it's too late and my plan is in action.

When the three came out, they gave me all smiles, but something told me they weren't genuine...more nervous. I brush it off though and quietly stepped inside. I knocked on the door pane as I saw Gavin's back turned to me, sitting at his new desk and working on something. The new space is huge and I was actually awed by the space. I definitely didn't feel claustrophobic here like I did back at the old place.

"What?" Gavin asked to the room, not even turning around. I didn't answer as I stepped closer, a smile on my face. Gavin sighed and pushed himself away from him desk. "Just tell me what--" He cut his sentence short as he looked at me, his eyebrows raised and his lips slightly parted.

"Happy Birthday." I smiled a little, running a hand through my pink hair. He didn't respond as his eyes filled with something I couldn't quite understand.

"Why didn't you answer my calls?" Was the first thing he said after five minutes of complete silence. "Why? What happened? Did I do something?" His eyes narrowed and he stood up, staying back as he took me in and I was taken back from his question.

"What--"

"I was worried, Jane. Worried," I knew when he didn't say my nickname he was either scared or angry. Right now I was going with the latter. "Ignoring my calls, never calling me back, your dad saying you were sleeping or out the whole time and not giving me enough information. I didn't know what the bloody hell was going on!" Gavin raised his voice and I stepped back. I wasn't expecting this.

"I-I'm sorry. I didn't mean to, I was just trying to--"

"What? You were trying to what? Make me worry on purpose? Make me feel frustrated on purpose? I was freaking the fuck out every second. A week, Jane. That's how long I didn't hear from you and you show up like nothing happened." His eyes held a fury I didn't think I would ever have seen being aimed towards me. I rubbed my arms and pulled down my baby blue dress that I knew he liked, but now I don't think it was doing anything.

"I was trying to make me coming back a surprise. I felt bad for not coming back the day I was supposed to, so I thought I would make it a surprise." I said, weakly and I felt so stupid in that moment.

"That doesn't mean you had to ignore my calls!" Gavin huffed out, pressing a hand to his face as sighing out.

"I'm sorry, alright!" My calmness has reached it's limit. "I'm sorry I didn't answer back and I'm sorry I didn't return your calls! I wasn't feeling the greatest and I was trying to make up for lost time at the college and I was visiting my mum! I had a lot of things on my plate!" I huffed out, flailing my arms at my sides as my green eyes stared into his darker shaded ones.

"You could have made some time to just text me then, so I knew you weren't angry with me for some reason or you were fine. I wasn't the only one upset or worried about you. You haven't returned Barbara's or Michael's or Burnie's--"

"I ignored Burnie's calls because--"

"Because what?!" Gavin yelled.

"Because of this!" I tore out the pregnancy stick and threw it at him--the object hit him on the shoulder until falling to the concrete floor. My nostrils flared and my eyes were burning as I watched him pick it up off the floor and examine it. "It's not a fake." I told him.

"Bree was right," At that moment Gavin's face released the harsh lines and anger as a smile was forming on his face. "She was right." A light chuckle drifted from him.

"What do you mean?" I was angry and confused as I took him in.

"Bree guessed this and she was right," He nodded, not angry anymore. He walked towards me, holding the stick in his hand. He tried to lean down towards me to steal a kiss, but I brought a hand up and stopped him.

"What the fuck are you doing?" I asked, pushing him away.

"Giving you a kiss." He shrugged like nothing happened and smiled a little bigger.

"Not after this. Not after you just blew up on me." I scoffed, turning away to walk out the door, but his hand grasped my wrist, the slight touch sending an electrifying current to rush through my body. He pulled me against him, placed his hand on the back of my neck and brought his lips down to mine. I tried to resist him, but my body betrayed me and I ruffled his already messy hair with my fingers, my eyes fluttering shut. He trailed his fingers from my neck all the way up against my jawline to my cheek, leaving cool, soft trails in their midst.

"I'm sorry," He mumbled against my lips, his tongue lining my bottom lip. I moaned in response. "I was just angry."

"I'm sorry too." That's the thing about us. Whenever we have a fight, it's hard to hold a grudge against the other and we make up in a matter of minutes.

"Just next time...if you ever leave...just call me and let me know...you're alright." Gavin said as he kissed me, his lips trailing down to my bare collarbone. "I seriously love this dress on you. Too bad it'll have to come off." I could feel his smile on my skin as I tangled my fingers rougher in hair.

"G-Gavin...not here." I shook my head as his lips lingered a little longer on a soft spot underneath my jaw.

"Lets go back to my place." He smiled as he moved away, his green eyes igniting with a fiery passion for the first time. I have seen lust and love, but this is something new, something foreign to me and I can't deny that I like it.

"What about Geoff, Griffon and Millie?" I asked, my hands still tangled in his hair.

"Don't worry about them. Call a cab." As he collected his stuff quickly, I called a cab. I was still heated after our argument and make-out session, but I was happy that the fight was over. It would've been awkward if I stayed and he and I didn't get along.

The cab arrived a few minutes later and Gavin told Geoff as he was coming down from Burnie's office, that he was taking me home. Geoff's smirk had me confused, but Gavin's lips on the base of my neck shook me out of my thoughts. During the ride, we kissed and he whispered dirty things in my ear to make me blush and giggle. I felt bad for the cabbie--we'd have to give him a big tip.

When the cab stopped I looked up to see a familiar complex, but not the one I was expecting. "Wait...what are we doing here?" I asked as Gavin got out and helped me. When he paid the cabbie and came back to me, he pulled out his keys and plopped them down in my hand.

"I knew how much you loved the place and how sad you were that it wouldn't be your own, so I saved up my money to buy the apartment before someone else took it." He smiled, waiting for my reaction. The apartment he was referring to was the same one I went to an open house for with Bree. I remembered every detail about it and how much the place seemed perfect for me, I was shocked.

"Y-You did? Why?" My mouth was open in a perfect O as I grasped the keys in my hand.

"Because just in case, if you ever came back, you'd have a place to stay. A real place instead of Burnie's or Geoff's." He said and helped me forward to my new place. Wow, that's weird to say.

"When did you?" I asked again as we climbed the stairs.

"The day after you told me you were leaving. I had Burnie give me the papers at work." He smiled, taking the keys from my hand and turning them in the lock. I just couldn't believe that he did this and I wanted to thank him over and over again. Another thought came into my mind.

"A-Are you living here too?" I but my lip as he pushed open the door.

"If that's alright with you?" He asked and before I knew it, I crashed my lips onto his, nodding vigorously at his question.

"Sorry I didn't get you a birthday present." I sighed out as he pushed me against the bare white wall. His smile made my heart flutter and he leaned his forehead against mine.

"Being with you for eternity...that's the best gift I could wish for." He smiled as I rolled my eyes.

"You cheesy bastard." I said, making the both of us laugh as he closed the door to the apartment. Our apartment.
