London Eye and The Frees
I didn't bother with telling Bree about my mum. She wouldn't exactly understand. Sure, she sort of had the same problem as me when she was younger, except her situation was slightly different. When she told me she was hired at Roosterteeth I was ecstatic. Having my girl friend work along by me was going to be the best. Even though she won't be part of Achievement Hunter, she'll be part of a big portion of Roosterteeth. Being an editor and possibly an animator is big, especially with working with two of the biggest web series online.
"Ready, love?" Gavin asked as he paid for our dinner. Gavin had wanted another date with me instead of just snogging and ending up in bed the moment after. We never really had the chance to go on another full date, so when he asked I had to accept.
"Yeah." I smiled, taking one last drink from my beer. The place he brought us to was a kick-back and quiet restaurant that had smells of honey roasted meat and rich, aromas of ales. Smells of heaven.
Gavin placed a hand on the small of my back as we exited the warm, cozy building, out into the chilly, England air. I decided on going home tomorrow, seeing that my dad was fine and healthier than a power horse. Of course, I didn't want to leave him, but knowing that he wouldn't be trapped in his hospital bed while I'm having the time of my life in America, is actually comforting. My mum being around him...not so much.
"What now?" Gavin asked. I looped my arm through his as we walked down the street. Burnie was at the hospital with my dad, probably catching up. He didn't even know about Gavin and mine's date.
"Well, I've actually never been on the London Eye. I've always wanted to, but never got the chance." I admitted. Gavin nodded.
"Then that's what we'll do. It would be my pleasure to be with you your first time." Gavin chuckled. I fiddled with a loose string on his coat while watching London traffic corrupt the streets. "So what were you and Bree talking about earlier?"
"I said girl stuff, Gavin. Nothing that would interest you, love." I condescended him. He gave me a confused look which made me giggle out of sheer enjoyment of that look.
"That bad? Was it about periods or something?" He asked.
I laughed so hard that I almost tripped over a deep crack in the pavement. Gavin caught my elbow and pulled me to him so I wouldn't crush my face against the cement. My laughter only continued at my clumsiness.
"Periods? Seriously? That's not what girl talk is. How thick are you? That's just 'period talk'." I poked his cheek, making him swat my hand away.
"I don't know! I'm not a girl, so I can only guess. Cut me some slack." Gavin shook his head.
"Fine. We were talking about her and Ray finally becoming official."
"About bloody time." Gavin chuckled.
"Exactly! They are so adorable together. I already made a ship name for them." Gavin raised his eyebrows at me, wanting me to reveal the name. "Bray."
"Sounds good to me. Now we'll just have to make it go viral and sit back, wait for the fan art and fan fictions." Gavin smiled. "Was that the only thing?"
I didn't answer which made him raise his eyebrows again. I made sure to stare straight ahead, avoiding his green stare.
We made it to the London Eye. It wasn't as crowded as I thought it would have been so we were able to get on immediately. I gripped Gavin's arm, waiting for the Eye to start taking off.
"Scared?" Gavin asked.
"I'm not such a big fan of heights." I sighed out.
"Good to know. I won't take you on a romantic date on the Eiffel Tower then." I chuckled at his joke. Once the Eye began moving, I literally clawed at Gavin's arm. "Just relax. Nothing's going to happen. You were fine on the plane here. What's the difference?"
"The difference is that I don't feel the plane moving so it feels like we're just sitting there, still on the ground. Here, I can see and feel everything." I scoffed. Gavin moved me so I was in front of him and his arms wrapped around my waist and his chin rested upon my shoulder.
"I've got you, love." He whispered into my ear before kissing it. I twisted a pink curl nervously as we moved up higher and higher, but I felt safe in Gavin's arms. Safer than I ever felt in Will's. The memory of him slapped me in the face of the prick and how tender he was in the beginning of our relationship-- how perfect everything was. My mind began wondering if it will be the same with Gavin. I can't see it happening, but then again I was blind with Will--distracted by his charm. It was all glamour. A shield covering his true soul. But Gavin was different. I can tell. He wouldn't hurt me. He even told me the morning after the nightclub.
Once we stepped off the Eye, I felt sick. I could tell Gavin realised this so he placed a hand on my arm. "I'll call a cab for us." He grabbed his phone and dialed the number for a cab.
I was almost ready to vomit when the cab pulled to a stop in front of us.
Gavin helped me inside, careful to not push me in. He gave the cabbie driver an address I didn't recognise.
"Where're we going?" I asked, swallowing back bile.
His cheeks turned a light pink and he wrung his hands together. "I, uh, promised my family they would meet you."
"Right now?" I asked. I couldn't even deal with talking. That Eye did some evil shit to me.
"Well, I was going to bring you yesterday, but I got distracted." He shrugged. I groaned, resting my head against the seat. Great...time to meet the parents while I feel sick to my stomach.
*
The house we arrived at was modest and small, quaint. The drive took longer than it should have, but I was able to forget about my sick stomach.
Gavin and I jumped out. Nervousness cloaked my mind. I wasn't prepared to meet his parents. I didn't have time to ask Gavin about what his family was like, what they preferred, or even their names.
"Gavin," I pulled on his sleeve as he tried walking to the door. He turned back to me. "I'm not ready. How do you think your parents will react when you bring a stranger to their home?"
"I told them the day after I asked you out about you. So they already know," A shy smile touched his lips. "Don't worry. They'll love you, just like I do." My heart fluttered at his response. He was so confident of our relationship that he told his parents the day after he asked me out! One point for Mr. Free.
I entwined my hand in his as we walked up to the door to his parents' house. A few seconds after Gavin knocked, a guy about the same age as Gavin opened the door. His disheveled hair matched Gavin's while his eyes didn't have the green hue, but was coloured a sea mist grey.
"Didn't have to knock. Front door was open, you pleb." The guy called out.
Gavin smiled and gave him a large bear-hug, ignoring the pleb ordeal.
"George, this is my girlfriend, Jane. Jane, this is my younger brother, George." Well, obviously it was his brother. They looked the bloody same!
"Hi," I smiled and tried to shake his hand, but instead his arms brought me into a warm hug. I chuckled but hugged him back.
"Where's mum and dad?" Gavin asked. George moved aside to let us in. The whole place was warm, with the smell of cinnamon and even vanilla. It was a bit stuffy, I will admit, but besides that -- cozy.
"Dad's in the living room, watching telly and mum's making tea. She was upset when you didn't bring her earlier." George moved a cat out of the way. My guess was that it was Lloyd, Gavin's best cat friend. Gavin immediately went for the fluff ball, cooing to it and scratching it's left ear.
I came to them and petted the cat. It purred under my touch, encouraging me to rub him some more. And I was correct. The collar around his neck signified it was the famous Lloyd.
"Georgie, who's at the door?" A feminine voice sounded from the kitchen.
"Gavin's here mum, with his girlfriend." George left the room with that. A lady, wearing a peach coloured jumper and dark trousers rounded the kitchen corner to take us in. Her face was an olive shade, showing she was the one with the Italian blood that Gavin had inherited. Her piercing green eyes resembled her son's and her wild, short brown hair was the same as both of her children.
"It's about bloody time, young man. I can't believe you kept her away from us." She smiled to me and walked over. Her hug was just as warm as George's. "You're lucky I didn't put your things in the bin to make a point for keeping a girl like this in the shade."
Gavin chuckled. "Sorry mum."
"Hi, Mrs. Free. I'm Jane. I really love your jumper." I said politely. I was raised with manners, I knew how to sugar-coat things.
"Oh, this old thing?" She waved a hand carelessly at me, but I noticed her eyes shine. "My husband got it from a cheap store for Christmas and call me Lou, dear." Her smile is precious and I couldn't help but grin as well. "Oh, come and meet Jon. He's been dying to meet you." She eyed Gavin as he hung up his coat to reveal the 'Tower of Pimps' shirt underneath.
"Sorry, mum. I got distracted." He apologised once again.
"Well, no kidding. Look at her." Lou gestured to me, having me flush bright pink. "Curves, stunning green eyes, porcelain skin. She's gorgeous. Even that pink hair adds to her beauty." Lou chuckled, taking my hand. I turned back to look at Gavin, whose face is beyond happy. The compliments his mother gave me was unexpected. I was never called gorgeous or beautiful before, not even by Will. Gavin did make sure to know I was those things, but since he is my boyfriend, he feels obligated to do so.
His mother brought me to the main room. It glowed with the light from the telly and the dim lamp in the corner. The couches were a soft shade of blue, almost identical to George's eyes.
"Jon! Look who Gavin finally brought! About bloody time, right?" Lou laughed. I stopped next to her as the man sitting in the chair took his time to get out of his armchair. His features were more English and proper. His sweater complimented his dark blue eyes. He wore square glasses, but he took them off as he grinned. His teeth were a little crooked and you could tell he wore braces back during his adolescent years.
"This the girl, lad?" Jon asked. Gavin stood behind me, looking a little tense, but his shoulders slacked.
"Yeah, dad. This is Jane," Gavin placed a hand on my waist.
"Well, it's a pleasure, honestly," his dad brought me in a hug like the others. Definitely a family of huggers.
"You are as pretty as Gavin said you would be. What part of England are you from? I don't think Gavin mentioned that."
I had a feeling the reason behind Gavin's hesitance was because he had told me his dad and brother are big football fans and Arsenal was their family's main team. And Tottenham, where I'm from, is their rival. I bumped back slightly into Gavin to ask him to answer for me.
"London." Gavin said. Which wasn't a lie whatsoever. Tottenham is in North London, so really he's telling the truth. Jon doesn't push for any details, but smiles nicely.
"Would you like a cuppa tea, dear?" Lou asked.
"That would be lovely, actually," I agreed. "Can I help?" Lou's eyes widened slightly as if she wasn't expecting me to ask a question like that.
"Sure." She walked away to the kitchen. I turned and grinned to Gavin, who's composure finally loosened into a relaxed state.
"I like your mum." I said, kissing his cheek.
"She always is a sweet woman, but she can be sassy and arrogant at times." Gavin chuckled.
"Hmmm....sounds like someone I know." Jon laughed at my comment, making me smirk as Gavin scoffed. I left to aide Mrs. Free with tea. She was already pulling out the mugs for the brew.
"What do you take with it?" She asked.
"Oh, just milk. I don't like it that sweet." I grinned.
"So, I heard it took a while for my son to win you." She went to the refrigerator and pulled out a new carton of milk, grinning like the Cheshire Cat.
"Well, I was already dealing with a bad break-up before, so yeah. I guess you can say that." I smiled smally.
"Gavin talked about you so much I thought that's all he would be capable of doing for the rest of his life. He would say how charming, smart, beautiful, and adorable you are. And he's right, you are exactly all those things, I can tell. I've never seen or heard him be so happy. I have met other girlfriends, but they won't compare to the love he has created for you. I swear he will never leave you." Her words struck chords in my heart. Strings that I thought would never be plucked at again. I never knew Gavin spoke about me so much when I wasn't around or how much he has influenced other people to think of only sweet and adoring things about me.
"I-I don't know what to say." Was all I could conjure up from my mouth.
"Puts you for a loss of words, huh? I have that effect on people," We both chuckled. "Well, you're a light for my son. Do you have a sibling or some relative for my other spawn?" This time we laughed full on. I liked her and wouldn't mind her being my mother-in-law. Oh my god, did I seriously just say that?!
We finished with the tea and brought it out to Gavin and his dad, who were deep in a conversation about football. Gavin grinned as I handed him his mug.
"You're mum told me how you liked it." I said, sitting next to him on the longer couch. He rested a hand on my thigh, rubbing small circles into the fabric of my jeans.
"Its good to know. The best way to win the heart of an Englishman is to know how he likes his tea prepared." Lou chuckled, smiling to her husband.
"Won me with the first cup of tea." Jon glanced lovingly at his wife. I could tell they were married for a long time. The gazes in their eyes supported that observation.
"My mum actually said the same thing," I said. "She always made sure my dad's cup was perfectly brewed when he returned from work."
"What does your father do?" Jon asked, folding up his newspaper.
"He used to be an engineer. He built cars for a living. He always enjoyed getting his hands dirty. On the side though, he made sure to paint masterpieces. Some of his artwork has been in gallery's." I took a sip from my mug. I felt Gavin's green eyes on me as I told the details about my father. "But now he's retired."
"Does he still paint?" Jon wondered, biting into a biscuit Lou had brought him.
"Not as much as before, but if he ever finds the time, he'll take out his easel." I did miss it when he would paint. He always showed me how to do different strokes with the paintbrush. He taught me shading with darker paints and how to texture them on the canvas. The lock screen on my phone was the picture my mother took of us in his studio, my painted hands resting on his cheeks, leaving bright stains.
"Gavin told us why you lot came up here. Is he doing well?" Lou asked, concern in her voice.
"Yeah. Better for sure. He just has to take it easy and take some pills to protect his heart from future heart attacks. He's always been strong. Strongest man I know." Gavin's hand squeezed my thigh, reassuringly.
"Oh, well that's good. What about your mother? How's she coping?" Lou raised her eyebrows.
Gavin answers for me, knowing I didn't like speaking about my mother. "She was sort of in hysterics, but she's better. I got the pleasure to meet her," Gavin nodded.
"What a tough, lass," Lou smiled. "Do you have siblings, Jane?" I didn't mind the questions as long as they shied away from my mother.
"No. My mother and dad didn't have time for another child. Their works didn't exactly allow them to support another kid. Although, sometimes I wish I grew up with a brother or sister. I never got the chance, but friends sort of took me away from those thoughts." I shrugged. It was true I had wanted a brother or sister to fight with or teach them things, but Zerri and Bree were like my sisters. We fought and we taught each other new things.
"I remember Gavin and George as kids. Oh dear--the fights! They would have a competition to see who could yell the loudest. They are both so competitive, but I guess that can come out to be a good thing," Her laugh is childish, making me smile. "Gavin, do you remember the time we went to Madrid and you and George would race each other through the street venders there and make a game for who could steal the most fruit off the carts?" The three Frees laugh at the memory. "Of course, I tried to stop them, but they wouldn't listen. Brats." This time I laughed.
"Sounds like they were complicated." I laughed.
"Still are. Keeping things from us," She eyed Gavin again. "Or driving us crazy with their silly activities. For example, Gavin's video making scenario. Oh, the mess they made when they broke that huge water balloon in our garden. A flood they made and a flood they had to clean up." Lou sighed. "But it was for something good. He wanted to work for Roosterteeth, so getting a public notice from someone famous or an award from a committee allowed him that pleasure. He's made us so proud." I smiled up at Gavin. I knew his struggles with trying to earn his dream job. It took him almost three good years!
"Dan is also someone that's made good for him," Jon cut in. "Brilliant boy. Sometimes a dollop head, but a charming lad." Gavin's laugh was the loudest out of all of ours.
"I'll let him know you complimented him." Gavin said. I rested my head on his shoulder, enjoying this little session. I really loved his family. His mother was funny, charming, and so kind I couldn't imagine a bad bone in her body. His dad was adorable and funny as well, reminding me of my own dad. Gavin inherited some of their characteristics and I was glad he didn't turn out as the black sheep or rotten apple of the bunch. I don't even think there was one in the batch.
"When are you leaving?" Lou asked. She placed her mug on the coffee table, done with her brew.
"Tomorrow. Now that I know my dad is in a better condition, I can go back." I said.
"Oh, what a shame. I wish we could spend more time together! You're so sweet I could mistake you for a peach." Her metaphor makes me grin stupidly. I already know Gavin is beaming proudly.
"Well, maybe during the summer I can come out with Gavin, of course, and we all could spend time together. Including my dad," I nodded.
"Oh that would be lovely, dear. I would very much like to meet your father. He sounds like a good bloke." Lou fixed her jumper that was starting to move up her waist.
"Well, it's 8:50," Jon said, glancing at his watch. "Should probably pop off, you guys. Don't want to miss your flight. What time will it take off?"
"Uh, around 7 I believe." Gavin answered, helping me up from the couch. "I'll take you back to the hotel." Gavin said to me, going to retrieve his coat. Jon kissed my cheek as I went by him. Lou followed Gavin and I to the front door, her strides even with us. As Gavin walked out to call a cab for us, Lou holds me back, smiling wide.
"You're good for him, you know? He needs someone like you to make him less of an irresponsible child and more of a proper young gentleman," I nodded to her, letting her know I agreed. "But of course make sure he doesn't lose his childish ways. That's what makes him the way he is," She hugged me, but before she loosened her grip, she whispered, "Please, don't let him go. He's something special. I know he means a great deal to you. You both love each other, I can see that. Jon and I shared that same love at your age. I want him to keep you around."

A/N: Holy crap this chapter gave me major feels as I wrote it. Definitely my favourite chapter I have ever written. Cutest, sweetest, and most adorable chapter so far and definitely the longest!
I didn't know Gavin's parent's actual names and I even tried Googling them, but I came up with a blank, so I just created an image for them. I also had to add in a funny little story of Gavin as a child, made up of course.
Thoughts on Gavin's parents? Comment to let me know!
Okay, so last update for a little while. I need to slow down a bit haha. I bet you're wondering what's going on with Bree, but don't worry. Ill get there!
