Cutting It Off and Bree's Smile
So sorry for the last chapter not being that good! I had to go to bed early so I had to make it quick! But hopefully this one will make it up to you!!

"I don't know about this," I said as Barbara and I entered the salon. "Maybe change isn't a good thing!"
"Oh, grow some balls and do it!" Barbara cheered me on. I bit my lip as I approached the counter where the young woman there smiled, way too happy mind you, and tilted her head.
"What can I do for you today?" She asked. I looked to Barbs and she nodded.
"I guess I'm going for a haircut." I grumbled. The wait wasn't long and once my arse hit the the salon chair, I immediately got cold feet. I preferred my long hair, knowing Gavin felt the same. It was like I was parting with a dear friend, as silly as that sounds.
The woman at the front wasn't the one to do up my hair. Instead a man wearing a burgundy silk vest and a flame of red hair stood behind me, scissors in hand.
"Hello, love," I could tell he was imitating an English accent. "How many inches off? Or would you just like for me to shave off your cotton candy hair?" His laugh was so annoying I wanted to punch him in his girly balls. I chuckled bitterly.
"Just about here, maybe?" I pointed to just underneath my breasts. I didn't want to go too short because then I'd feel naked, exposed.
"Is that all? Not even a dye?" I could tell he was not impressed by my splendor of pink pastel curls. "Honey, you look like someone that's been stuck in Katy Perry's California Girls' music video." Barbara was off to the side, but I could tell from her expression of annoyance that she wanted to pop him in the jaw.
"At least I don't look like an adult Chucky." My grin was of sheer sarcasm and his eyes became disapproving. Barbara's cute laugh was music to my ears.
"Hm. So, just a cut, then?" This time his voice wasn't chipper or melodious. I nodded and he began his task. Every snip was like a chip in my heart. My long hair was dear to me and finally cutting it away was hard. Sure, it was just hair, but this was the first time I have ever done this. I looked over at Barbs while Adult Chucky sprayed water in my hair so he could cut my pink locks easily.
She gave me a thumbs up. I smiled to her until Chucky had me look away. I was really hoping Gavin wouldn't mind--hoping that he would accept my newly formed hair and smile with approval.
The last cut made to my locks left me breathless as I stared at myself in the mirror. It was gone and it didn't touch my lower back anymore. Chucky blow dried my hair until it it fell in wisps around my face. The pastel pink looked softer than before.
"There you go." Chucky sighed, swiping off the sheet that kept off the cut hairs. I smiled politely, well more like cockily, and joined Barbara who looked up from her celebrity magazine. She squealed as she saw my short hair, touching it enthusiastically.
"It looks so amazing! Gavin's going to want to take you right on his desk when he sees you." She giggled. I blushed at her comment, but smiled along with her. I hoped she was right that Gavin would like it.
*
"Beautiful. I mean I'll miss it, but I like it this way too." I stood at Gavin's desk, hands clasped together as I listened to Gavin's opinion. Barbara gave me an encouraging talk on our way back from the shopping centre and told me I shouldn't regret cutting my hair.
"You look hot!" Michael grinned, earning a glare from Gavin. Geoff smiled at the the boys' appraisal. He was starting to get used to Gavin and I being together, which was a relief. If things were tense between Gavin and him, it made the office uncomfortable, but thankfully Geoff realised Gavin made me happy.
"Thanks, boi," I giggled to Michael and he winked at me. "So, you do like it? I've never cut my hair before so it was a tough decision." I said to Gavin.
"I love it." He stood up and cupped my cheeks, pulling me close so he could place his soft lips on mine. The guys groaned in discomfort and I could feel Gavin's smile on my lips. He pulled away, giving me his signature goofy smile.
"Today, I also met a fan." My smile grew wider at the memory. My iPhone with the Grr case was stuffed inside my Pikachu bag at my desk. It was my favourite thing and when I left the salon, I had gotten a notification from Twitter. It was a tweet from the Jess girl, tagging me in her post about the incident earlier. I followed her and she sent another one, saying she was screaming.
"Really? That's great! How was it?" Gavin asked. His eyes were literally shining with pride.
"She said that you and Michael were her favourites," The lads high fived each other. "And that Barbs and I were her favourite girls here! She even gave me her Grr iPhone case." Gavin gave me a quizzical look, but Michael's was excited. "And...she also said that we would make a cute couple." I smirked at Gavin.
"Well we do," He gave me a cheeky grin. He leaned in for another kiss, but Geoff threw his stuffed Minecraft character at him.
"Not in the office or you're fired!" Geoff pointed a finger at both of us. "I'm allowing this, so don't ruin it for yourselves and make me want to kill him." This time he looked to me, but I couldn't help but laugh. This day has taken my mind off of Bree's and Ray's horrible situation, but I was grateful that I wasn't thinking of them.
Later on Gavin and I did a Patch Podcast with Burnie, who complimented my hair with a silly joke. When we were finished, Gavin decided on helping me find a place for myself. It was definitely time for me to start looking, knowing that I couldn't inhabit Burnie's space any longer, even though he said he loved me being there. I just knew I had to find somewhere to live before he began going crazy with my presence.
"So," Gavin said as he plunged himself onto the sofa at Burnie's place. "What type of place are you looking for?" He asked. I pulled out my laptop from its orange case and sat beside him, flipping up the top and pressing the on button.
"Most likely a flat or "condo." Like a bachelor pad." I grinned as he rolled his eyes at me. "Somewhere close to work with maybe two bedrooms."
"What do you need two bedrooms for?" He literally did look confused.
"Just in case you bother me and I have to kick you out of bed." I giggled as he gasped. I kissed his cheek which had the feel of a beard forming. "Oh, calm down, my love. As long as you don't get on my nerves, you'll be able to sleep with me as long as you'd like."
"How long will you be able to take me?" He breathed out, his lips beginning to trail down from my earlobe to my jawline.
"Not long, I fear," I smiled, pushing him off. "Gavin, this isn't the time to use your failed seductive skills. I have to find a place for myself, remember? You offered to help." I typed in to a website that had places for rent.
"Doesn't mean I can't multitask." Gavin shrugged. "And are my seductive skills really that bad where you consider them as 'failed'?"
"Not the time," I bit my lip as I scrolled through the many places up for rent. There were so many options in Texas I couldn't believe it! "Something good, something good." I mumbled to myself. Gavin twirled a pink lock of my hair between his fingers as he studied the screen along with me.
"What about that one?" He inquired, pointing to the screen.
"It only has one bedroom." I said, sighing.
"Well, that's good. Now you can't throw me out of the bed." He chuckled.
"I could always throw you out the door." A smirk appeared on my face and Gavin pushed my head away playfully. I giggled as I scrolled down some more.
The whole afternoon we scrolled through the rent adds--writing down addresses or passing some up. Of course, we playfully nagged at each other, but that's how we made the time more fun. We found a few good ones that were close to the office or had two bedrooms and one even had a pool. Gavin kept insisting that when I got a place that he would be allowed a key.
"I don't want you popping in whenever you feel like it! What if I'm having company over?"
"What kind of company would you want to keep from me?" He raised an eyebrow.
"The other men I'm having sexual intentions with." I smiled big as his face became red and he had a tinge of jealousy in his eyes, even though he knew I was joking. He could be so adorable sometimes. Well, mostly all the time.
My phone rang as Gavin and I were wrestling on the couch for our break, kisses and tickling infused with it. I snagged my mobile from the coffee table as Gavin was nibbling at my ear, making me squeal.
"H-hello?" I laughed. I didn't know who called since Gavin was distracting me.
"Janie?" A soft voice said. My face fell and I shot right up from the sofa as Gavin's usual confused expression formed on his face.
"Bree? Hey, how are you?" Hearing her voice was something I've been dying to hear. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm quite alright. Listen, do you think I can come over?" Her voice was tired, drained, empty--lacking any emotion or tone.
"Yeah. Gavin's here but I'll kick his arse out just for you." I smiled a little. I heard her chuckle lightly and I couldn't believe how much I missed that sound.
"Thanks. I'll leave soon."
"Okay. Is Ray coming?" I asked, already knowing he wasn't but I wanted to hear her voice at the mention of his name.
"No. He's going out with Michael. I think he's going to talk with him like I am with you." Bree said. I smiled, finally glad that she was going to open up instead of stay behind a bedroom door, not eating nor talking. Gavin raised his eyebrows at me when I ended the call.
"That was Bree?" He asked. I nodded and smiled lightly.
"I'm going to have to ask you to leave. Thanks for helping me today." When he got to his feet he raised my chin and kissed me lightly.
"Of course, love. Just remember that I expect a key." He smiled.
"Isn't the one to my heart enough?" It sounded cheesy, but it was the best I could come up with. He chuckled, rubbing his thumb across my cheek.
"Nothing will ever be enough for me." He kissed me goodbye.
*
Bree arrived 30 minutes after Gavin's departure, looking like a zombie. Her midnight coloured hair was tangled in a messy bun atop her head, her dark eyes had bags underneath them and even her skin was paler than before from lack of sun.
I hugged her fragile body to me, making sure I didn't squeeze her too hard for fear of her shattering like glass. "I've missed you." I said, my face buried in her shoulder. Her arms were wrapped around me and I could tell she felt the same way.
Once I let her go, I helped her to the couch. "Do you want anything? I think Burnie might have some coffee in the cupboard." She definitely needed some caffeine to liven her face up. But she shook her, pulling back a wisp of black hair.
"No. I just really want to talk." Was all she said. I sat across from her, taking her hands in mine. She was like my sweet little sister and I wanted nothing more than to slay her demons that drained her body of energy. I wanted to cast away the shadows that clouded her eyes and bring back the holy light that glowed in them like usual. Basically, I wanted my friend back.
"How are you?" I asked, gripping her hands.
"I guess you can say I'm better than before. I've had time to think about everything and realised I was being a child. I should've confessed to Ray, but I was just scared too. I'm always frightened of a reaction. Even telling you about my past was scary." She cracked a smile, but it soon disappeared.
"Ray said you told him some things. What did he say?" I tilted my head, encouraging her to continue.
"He comforted me, hugged me so tight I thought I was going to suffocate," she giggled. "But he knew I wasn't telling everything. I just couldn't spill out my past to him. It just intimidated me for some odd reason." Bree shook her head. "He kept trying to push the secrets from me, but I wasn't so lenient."
"Have you guys talked about the miscarriage?" My insides churned at the mention of it, but I had to ask.
"Yeah, we did. We talked it over and said it wasn't our faults, that we had no say in that matter. He even suggested trying again when I was able to. He looked so defeated, Janie. I could tell he was dying to 'purposefully' try. I guess the shock of what happened made him more eager to try for a child now. But I don't think I'm ready." Bree sighed. I could tell this was a weight in her small shoulders. "I don't think I ever will be. Not even in a couple of years."
"You never know. The future holds surprising and different things." I shrugged. She looked up at me since she had her eyes trained on the carpet. Her smile was genuine, pure and beautiful.
"Do you think I can stay here for a little while? Maybe even sleep over?" She asked. I smiled, hugging her to me.
"Of course. Maybe we can even watch The Avengers and drool over Loki." She giggled at my suggestion.
