Blessing and I Love You
Gavin watched me as I stared blankly into the overgrown hedges straight ahead. I still sit in his lap, listening to my mother's shaky voice on the other line.
"Jay?" Gavin whispered to me. I didn't move. Hearing my mum's voice tore at my heart. I hadn't seen her in a few years. I refused to look upon her face because of the damage she caused my father. Her drinking habits weren't any better and I bet she still lied her way through court. My father and her still had to stand amongst a judge.
"Sorry," I shook my head. I was mainly speaking to Gavin not my mother, but of course she believed I referred to her.
"It's okay. I'm just glad you didn't hang-" I hung up. I couldn't stand hearing that voice. I moved off of Gavin, past Dan, and towards the front of the small house. I wrung my hands together while letting deep, unsteady breaths exhale from my mouth.
"Jay, love," Gavin's sweet voice sounded from behind me. His strong hand took hold of my arm, making me turn towards him. "What's wrong? Who was it?"
"Burnie, but then he handed the phone over to my mum. That bitch." I muttered the last part under my breath. I never really told Gavin about my mother, afraid of what he would say.
"Well, I don't know enough about your mother to agree with you on the name-calling, but I'm sure you have a reason." Gavin nodded. He still wore his Slow Mo Guys lab coat while wearing a simple gray tshirt underneath.
"More than just a reason." I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms. Gavin smiled a little before lifting my head by placing his fingertips under my chin.
"You're cute when you're upset." He said, trying to get a blush or anything from me instead of a grumpy little girl.
"Not now, Gavin." I grumbled.
"I think now and every other time is perfect to compliment your adorableness," Gavin chuckled and kissed me. My eyes fluttered shut. I raised myself on my tip toes and gripped the sleeves of his coat.
"This isn't going to make me feel any better." I moaned against his lips.
"Maybe something else will," Gavin's lips drew down to my neck, making me cling to him for support. Damn his irresistible and soft kisses. Yes, we were in front of Dan's grandparents' house, but I didn't pull away from Gavin.
Soon he began to suck a little on my neck, making me moan out as my hands gripped even tighter on his lab coat. Gavin chuckled against my cool flesh. Goosebumps rose on my skin from his chuckle and the damn sensual kisses he offered.
"Now, do you feel better?" Gavin muttered, lips still touching the base of my neck.
"Almost." I smirked.
"We could go back to your hotel room and I can make sure that 'almost' turns to a '100%'. Along with a scream of my name, of course." Gavin moved and placed his forehead against mine. This boy is going to kill me.
"As tempting as that sounds," I grinned. "We have to visit my father even though my mother stands guard there." I huffed the last part.
"I'll be with you every step of the way, love," Gavin touched my bottom lip with his thumb before pressing his lips back against them.
*
"Come on. It's just your mother, Jay." Gavin pleaded for me to enter the hospital's front doors. He had switched his lab coat for a black hoodie. I stood in my white, knitted sweater that cupped my thighs and hugged my navy blue tights to my legs. My pink hair was pinned back into a messy ponytail. I didn't care about my appearance at the moment. My mother was waiting on the other side of these doors.
"You don't know her like I do." I said.
"That's because you never cared to tell me about her. You only said she was a drunk, but that's it. Tell me, was she drunk on the phone?" He crossed his arms.
"No."
"No. So, I'm guessing she's staying clean for the sake of your father and you," Gavin sighed deeply before coming to me and cupping my cheek. "Just face her."
"It's not that easy." I shrugged, looking down at the pavement.
"Nothing's ever simple, but try to." Gavin nodded and helped me through the doors by placing a hand on the small of my back. Burnie sat in one of the waiting chairs, flipping through a magazine. He didn't notice us as he rubbed his eyes underneath his glasses.
"Burnie." I said in a small voice.
"Jane," He said when he looked up. Standing up, he brought me into a one-armed hug. "How was filming with the boys?" Burnie nodded to Gavin and gave him a bump on the fist.
"Fun. I really enjoyed it." I smiled, forgetting about my mother. "Especially throwing fruit at Gavin and Dan."
"I didn't even say to do that!" Gavin scoffed.
"Yeah, but it makes for an awesome video!" I laughed.
"That's my girl." Burnie laughed as well, giving me a bump too. His face fell slightly as he cleared his throat to make me turn my head to a figure standing some ways to the left.
My mother's natural dark blond hair cascaded down her small shoulders into shimmering curls. Her once tan skin was a pale cream colour, making her seem like she never left the house. Her beautiful green eyes had dulled to a dead, ivy shade. Her smile though was still uplifting.
"Jane," She said, her thick Irish accent coating her words. "I've missed you."
She strode towards me, tissues crunched up into balls in her hands. Her slender arms placed themselves around me and she laid her heart-shaped face against my shoulder. I didn't want to, but I hugged her back.
It was hard when my mum and dad split even though I was an adult. It still hurt. They were always happy together and loved each other to death. A silent tear floated down my face before disappearing into her golden hair. I was born with the same colour, just as golden, just as curly, but I dyed it to destroy the resemblance I shared with her. The only way I could get rid of the green in my eyes was to get coloured contacts, but those hurt like a bitch.
"Hi...mum," I sighed out. I moved away quickly, stepping next to Gavin. He didn't place an arm around because of Burnie's presence and I so wished he broke the rules I had constructed and hold me close.
"Who's this?" My mother asked, eyeing Gavin.
"I'm Gavin. Jane's friend." Gavin shook my mother's hand, smiling. "We work together."
"Oh! At the game company, right? The one you founded?" My mother looked to Burnie, who nodded a little. He knew the tension that linked my mother and I. "Well, that's wonderful. Ever since Zerri died, Jane's been all down and never wanted to make more friends. I'm glad she finally did."
Hearing my best friend's name made tears build up in my eyes. Zerri Banks. The best girl I had ever known and one of the kindest, purest, souls on this planet. I remember her always breathless voice exclaim her lust for having a loving husband and a bunch of children to fill a house with. She had wanted to become a pediatrician to work with kids and become their hero.
Seeing my sorrow expression, Burnie finally decided to step in. "Yes. She's doing amazing at the company and has made many friends, all who love her very much," He smiled to me. "How about you go and say hello to your dad? I'll keep your mother company."
I nodded, wiping away the almost falling tears. "I'll go too." Gavin whispered and followed me down the corridor. "You okay?"
"Yeah. Just...when she mentioned Zerri, I almost broke down." I admitted. Gavin's arm snaked around my waist, pulling me to him. The warmth that radiated off his body was soothing and I wrapped my arms around his waist. Gavin kissed my head, running his hands through my pink curls.
"Well, hopefully your dad can cheer you up." Gavin sighed.
We finally came to my dad's door. Inside the room was perfectly temperatured and the window was open to let the London sounds fill the room. My dad was sat up in the hospital bed, eating what looked like a crumpet
"Jane." My dad smiles as I walked to him. I kissed his temple before grimacing down at his plate. He laughed at my face. "It's edible at least," He looked over at Gavin. "Hello, who's this?"
"Daddy, this is Gavin. My boyfriend." I decided just to lay it out on the table.
"Boyfriend? That quick? Well, it's nice to meet you, Gavin." My dad held out a hand. Gavin grabbed it, shaking it gently.
"You too." Gavin rested his hand on my shoulder.
"How's you're day been?" I asked, sitting down in the chair next to his bed.
"Oh, you know. Sitting here until my bottom feels like it's been numbed by a bloody hammer." My dad joked. I giggled at his goofy joke. He always was the one to lighten the mood if anyone was feeling down.
"Well, you'll be leaving soon," I hesitated before asking my question. "...did mum come in?"
"Yes. Her and Burnie. She was crying, believing I was dying. Crazy broad. She knows I had a mild heart attack -- nothing too serious." My dad sighed, putting his plate next to him on his bed.
"That's mum for you," I smiled bitterly. "How do you feel? How is your heart?"
"Like I have one that's 20 years old." My dad thumped his hand against his chest. "Unfortunately, I'm 51 so it's just a giant lie to keep me going." We all laughed and talked for the next hour about anything and everything. My mum nor Burnie decided to intrude on us.
"So, how long has this been going on?" My dad passed a finger to Gavin and I.
"2 or 3 months." I said.
"2 or 3 months? Shouldn't you know when your relationship took flight? I guess that's what happens nowadays, kids fall too fast in love, so they end up in a crazy, love world where time seems to disappear from them." My dad chuckled, sipping from a cup that held hospital Orange Juice.
A blush touched my cheeks when my dad said the phrase 'fall too fast in love.' I don't know if I was in love with Gavin. I mean of course I loved being with him, but was I in love?
"Seems like the right answer." Gavin laughed. He had pulled up another chair close to me when we got into a deep conversation about my life in Texas.
"Seems to be," My dad nodded. "And the fact you haven't told Burnie amuses me." Yeah...we told my dad everything.
"We're waiting for the right moment." I nodded.
"Sweetheart, you're a grown adult, not a child. Plus, he's not your father. I am," He pointed to himself. "Sure he's your guardian while you're in America, but not your parent. He doesn't have to approve about who you want to date, that's my job. And I fully approve of this young man." My dad's smile was genuine.
I sat in silence, contemplating his reply. It was true -- I'm a grown woman that can do what ever she pleased. Burnie wasn't my biological father, but he did resemble a father figure to me. I didn't need his permission to date someone, only my dad's and he approves of Gavin. I smiled to my dad, the grin I gave him was big.
"Thanks, daddy." I said.
"Of course. But listen here, young lad," A finger was pointed directly at Gavin. "If you hurt my little girl, I'll make sure to get to you before Burnie does." Gavin's face couldn't have been more nervous, but his reply was calm and sincere.
"Don't worry, Mr. Downing. I love your daughter with all of my heart." The last bit made my heart swell. Did he really love me? I was still in the questioning phase.
"Good. Now pop off. I need a good nap." My dad sighed, but a smile was visible on his wrinkled face.
"Goodbye, Daddy. Love you." I kissed his soft cheek which he returned with one on mine.
"Love you too, darling."

Burnie went to take my mum home, so Gavin got the task to take me back to the hotel. I was bloody tired from filming all day, dealing with my mum, and staying with my dad for hours. My brain couldn't deal with all of this for another second. But one thing that did keep my brain pumped was Gavin saying he loved me to my father.
"Did you mean it?" I asked as we got out of the cab. Burnie had taken our rental car with him.
"Mean what?" Gavin closed the door when I hopped out. He paid the cab driver.
"What you said to my dad about how you 'loved me with all your heart'? Did you mean it?" My hands were stuffed in my armpits, trying to isolate them from the chilly air. Gavin wrapped an arm around me, pulling me to the hotel door. An employee of the hotel opened it for us and smiled, tipping his hat to us.
Gavin licked his lips before he answered, "I meant every word." My heart skipped a beat at his meaningful words. My head leaned down on his shoulder as we walked to the lift.
The ride up was silent. I bit my lip as the door opened for us to step out. Gavin took my hand and brought me to my room. He ruffled his light, brown hair.
"Want me to stay?" He asked. Ever since my dad said he approved of him, Gavin had finally removed his worried and nervous stature and picked up a more confident attitude.
I placed my hands on his shoulders, moved on my tip toes, and planted a sweet, slow kiss on his lips. His hands touched my back, sending shocking tingles throughout my whole body. I wanted nothing more than to throw him inside and push him onto the bed.
He pulled away, making me push out my bottom lip in a pouty manner. "Is that a yes?" He chuckled. His teeth grabbed my bottom lip which made me moan.
"Yes." I breathed out rather hoarsely.
"Good answer." Gavin picked me up, making me have to wrap my legs around his waist. He moved quickly into the room, closing the door behind him. I pulled off my jumper with Gavin holding me to make sure I didn't slip from him. I pressed myself against him, feeling the sculpting of his body. We were made for each other, I realised then.
I helped Gavin pull off his hoodie and shirt, having him reveal his torso to me. A cocky smirk spread on his face as he ripped off my bra. Literally, he broke the clasp and even the straps! But I didn't care. All I wanted was him and I to melt together and become one.
He threw me onto the bed, unbuckling his trousers as he did so. I watched from the bed, bare chested and all. Once he finally stripped down to just his boxers, his body crashed onto mine, and his lips caressed mine like before.
We tore our other articles of clothing off. Gavin pushed me against the feather pillows. A groan escaped my sore lips as he kissed roughly at my neck and then chest.
"I love you." I moaned out. That made him stop and stare up at me. We looked at each other. Our hearts beating fast and our breathing rasping out in quick gasps.
A grin spread on his adorable face. He smashed his lips on top of mine and became one with me. I did scream out his name....more than once whole adding in a ton of 'I love yous.'

A/N: Look at that! Two updates and in two days!! I really enjoyed writing this chapter! The majority of it was typed at school while the other half was typed in my bathroom. Not on the toilet! I sat on the floor, trying to escape my mum haha. I feel like this story is finally feeling more organised and settled. Before, it just felt jumpy and not really cooperative. Thank you guys for reading and please comment, vote, and follow!
PS: Please comment! It would seriously mean a lot!
