Blaming and Old Friends

The event with Will happened only a little over fifteen minutes ago. We all sat in Burnie's home, silent as can be. Ashley was tending to Joel's beat up face on the couch while Michael took care of my cheek in the kitchen. He used alcohol wipes to remove any dirt that happened to touch the cut. I winced as the acidic liquid touched my face.

"Does that hurt?" Michael asked, carefully dabbing my cheek.

"Yeah, a bit." I smiled though and thanked him.

"No problem. You're like the little sister I never had. You annoy me, but I still love ya." We both chuckled and heard the front door open fast.

"What the bloody hell happened?!" said a voice from the living room. Gavin made it. Gus had called Barbara back at the office, telling her what happened. She obviously told Gavin and some others because she arrived with him, Lindsay, Kara, and Miles. I heard footsteps coming our way and saw Lindsay come in.

"Oh my god, Jay are you okay?" She said with worry plastered on her face.

"Yeah. Just a cut." I shrugged.

"A cut? More like a fucking gash on your cheek." Michael said and dabbed more alcohol wipes on my face, making me wince more.

"Who did this?" Lindsay asked.

"Will, my ex. I don't know how he found me, but he did. Michael was driving me home and when we arrived here, we saw him at the door. I'm just glad he didn't kill someone. He's capable of that." I sighed.

"Where is she?!" Gavin said from the living room. Ashley said where I was and I heard more footsteps come towards us. Gavin's was more fast paced than Lindsay's. Gavin soon appeared in the kitchen door frame. His green eyes immediately went to my busted cheek. I could see a flash of anger move across his eyes, but it was soon replaced with concern. He came over, examining my cheek.

"Who did this?" He looked up at me since I was sitting on the counter. Apparently Burnie didn't go into details with Barbara. When I told him it was Will, he instinctively grabbed my hand, rubbing the back of my hand with his thumb.

"It's okay, Gavin. The cops came and took him away. Hopefully forever." I smiled, trying to comfort him. He smiled a small smile back and nodded. Michael grabbed a large bandadge and placed it over the cut.

"There. Now would you like a lollipop, little girl?" Michael asked. The four of us laughed and I hugged Michael. He was definitely like an older brother to me. I was an only child so I never got to experiance sibling fights or sharing a room with a brother or sister.

The rest of the evening was mostly making sure Joel was okay. He kept saying he was fine and told everyone to "leave me the fuck alone." Gus and Matt soon took Joel home, Michael and Lindsay went a few minutes after them. Barbara, Kara, and Miles went back to the office to work on stuff for RWBY. Before they left they each gave me a warm hug and told me to call them to hang out soon. I promised I would and watched them leave. Gavin, Burnie, Ashley, and I were the only ones in the house.

We didn't say anything for the longest time. Burnie then cleared his throat and told Gavin and I he was going to take Ashley home. "No funny business," he said before leaving. Gavin and I said goodbye, hearing the engine of Burnie's car die away. I sat on the couch, Gavin following me and immediately placing his arm around my shoulders, protectively.

"Are you alright?" Gavin asked. His thumb rubbed my shoulder soothingly. I rested my head against his shoulder, feeling comfortable.

"Yeah. Everything just happened so fast. When I saw Will hit Joel, I just had to intervene and take care of it myself. It's all my fault he was here in the first place." I said and I felt Gavin's grip on my shoulder tighten. He pushed me away gently, to look at me.

"Jane," He said, softly. "None of this was your fault. None of it. Okay? Will was a maniac that hung on to the past and couldn't move on. It was not your fault he hit Joel or you. Don't blame yourself."

I stared at Gavin and smiled slightly. He smiled back and moved a piece of pink hair away from my face that was hanging over my forehead.

"I guess you're right," I laughed. "Wow, that's a first."

"Hey!" He said playfully. We both laughed and I soon felt better. We turned on the television, deciding on watching Iron Man 2. Gavin's mobile vibrated in his pocket, making me jump a little. Gavin chuckled and pulled out the iPhone.

"It's a text from Geoff. He's asking if you're alright and if you need a day off." Gavin looked over at me.

"Tell him I'm fine and I don't need a day off at all. I'm not skipping work from a little boo boo." I smiled. Gavin texted back what I said. I leaned back onto him until I heard the front door being open. I shot up out of Gavin's arms and sat straight against the couch.

Burnie sauntered in and saw that Gavin was still here.

"Is Geoff running late to pick you up?" He asked, placing his keys on the nearby side table.

"Oh, I just forgot to ask him to pick me up." Gavin got his mobile out again and texted Geoff to come pick him up.

Twenty minutes later, a car horn sounded outside.

"Well, that'll be my chauffer." Gavin stood up and walked to the front door, me following behind him. Burnie was in his room making important phone calls, so he didn't come out and say goodbye.

"Thanks for making sure I was alright, Gav." I said, leaning on the door frame. He gave me a half smile.

"Of course. I'm always here when you need me." He chuckled and kissed my forehead. "See you at work tomorrow, love." I nodded and saw Geoff glaring a little at Gavin, but it sooned passed when he yelled goodnight to me. I waved as the car rolled away and turned down the street.

The next day, I sat at my desk, sifting through my Twitter. I haven't been on since I started work at Roosterteeth. I noticed my 500 follower mark was now at 10,000 followers. I smiled inwardly at myself, feeling really happy about this.

"I'm gonna go get a water. Anyone want anything?" asked Ray. He was wearing his X-Ray and Vav shirt today, as was Gavin. I was wearing a Roosterteeth shirt as well; Ray's Achieve shirt along with pink skinny jeans that matched my hair and an Achievement Hunter slap bracelet. Everyone said they were alright and Ray shrugged, heading out the door. Twitter soon became boring to me and I decided to head over to Tumblr. Tumblr never interested me, but Barbara insisted I get one to look at the Roosterteeth tags and look at the fan art and gifs.

I heard the door open behind me, believeing it to be Ray coming back from the kitchen. A pair of small hands came around my head, covering my eyes.

"What the-?" I put my hands on the ones covering my face.

"Guess who?" said a very familiar voice. A voice I knew too well. I gasped and tore the hands off my eyes and turned to see my best friend, Bree.

"Bree!" I yelled and jumped up, pulling her into a bear hug. She laughed and squeezed me back. Bree and I have been best friends longer than I can remember. She was always there with me through the roughest of times and also the greatest times of my life. Her jet black hair was tied up into a ponytail on her head, her dark brown eyes seemed darker than last time I saw her, and her skin was paler than before. She wore a purple, crochet sweater that went to her mid-thigh and sea green jeans that didn't match with her outfit whatsoever. That's just how she was. She even wore one blue sock and one red. "What are you doing here?"

"Visiting! All of my fall exams are done and I decided to use my free time to see you! I've missed you so much, Janie!"

"Janie? I don't think so. Jay is her official nickname now. It's sexy and cool at the same time." said Michael who was watching us along with Gavin.

"Shut the fuck up, Michael," I said, looking over at him. I turned back to Bree and gave her a confused look. "How did you know where I worked?"

"Oh, well, I asked your dad where you lived here in Texas and he gave me your address and also the work address. I knew you'd be at work, so I came here first" She smiled and I couldn't help but hug her again. We jumped up and down like a couple of school kids.

"Alright, alright. We get it. You two missed each other and can't wait to party, but we need to get some work done." Geoff said, but with a smile. I nodded and told Gavin to get Bree a chair. He said she could use his. He slid his chair towards her. She thanked him and sat next to me at my desk. Gavin sat on Michael's lap, making me giggle.

"So is Mavin canon then?" I asked. I had learned some things about the Roosterteeth shipping, Mavin had become my favourite.

"Oh it's been canon for a while. Just haven't told the public yet. Although I think Mavin is coming to a close, since you two are becoming more lovey dovey." Michael said, making my cheeks become a furious shade of red. Even Gavin's cheeks were pink, but not red like mine.

"We aren't togther! Get that through your thick skull, you knob."

"See! You guys spend so much time together, that you're even starting to act like him!" Michael laughed loudly, making Bree jump in her chair. Geoff and Jack laughed along with Michael. Bree leaned over to me.

"What is going on here?" she asked in a whisper.

"It's a long story. Don't want to make you any more scared."Ray soon came back in, holding his bottle of water and a rice crispie treat. Once he saw Bree, he set down his snack on his desk and came up to us.

"Hey I'm Ray, who are you?"

"I'm Bree. Janie's friend." She smiled and shook the hand Ray extended out.

"Janie?" He laughed. "Well nice to meet you, Bree. Hopefully you won't feel violated or be made to do some terrible shit here at the office. Sometimes shit happens when you aren't too careful around here." Ray smiled. I couldn't help but see he was nervous talking to Bree. Bree was attractive and I could see Ray noticed this. I smiled inside, seeing something happening with these two very soon. Bree laughed her giggly, girly laugh that I knew she used when talking to someone she liked.

I stayed at the office for a few more hours until Bree said she wanted to get some food. She had watched us do a Let's Play in Call of Duty: Zombies and a Things To Do in GTA V. She laughed along with us when shit went down. She seemed to like it here, especially the fact that Ray worked here with me. When we did our Let's Play she sat next to him, watching his screen. During the middle of the Let's Play, Michael whispered to me and pointed at Ray and Bree. He waggled his eyebrows and I laughed, making Gavin turn his head and see Michael. He laughed too and soon the three of us were laughing harder than we should have. Jack gave us a weird look and shook his afterwards.

I grabbed the Achievement Hunter jacket Gavin gave me on our lunch "date" and walked out of the office, Bree in tow. I waved at Kara before heading out into the gloomy outside.

"Where do you wanna eat?" I asked, zipping up my jacket.

"I don't care, somewhere cozy." She replied back and I knew exactly where to take her. Instead of driving, we took the five minute walk to the cafe down the street.

We stayed inside, next to a window that showed the parking lot with only a few cars stationed there.

"So, how do you like my work so far? Pretty awesome, right? Playing video games and laughing at each other." I chuckled and looked over at her.

"Yeah. It's bloody amazing, Janie. Especially Ray." She giggled. Our waitor came back and we ordered two hot chocolates.

"So you like him, then?" I asked once the waitor left.

"A little. Maybe not as much as you like Gavin." She smiled playfully, wagging her eyebrows like Michael had done earlier.

"We are just friends, Bree. Nothing is going on." I kind of lied. Of course there was something going on with Gavin and I, but I didn't want it to become a full on relationship. I still wasn't ready.

"Oh please. Even your buddy Michael could see it. I saw the look he gave you and all of the smiles you returned. You guys want to shag so bad." My cheeks flushed red. The waitor came by and gave us our cocoas. We both ordered hamburgers and fries. "By the way, what happened to your cheek?" Bree asked pointing to my cheek.

"I don't really want to get into it, but if you must know...It was Will." Her eyes widened. She was about to speak, but I stopped her. "Stop. I don't want to talk about it." She just nodded and sipped her warm cocoa.

We talked about her college hours back home once the Will conversation didn't last that long. She was going to an Art college in London and she was really excited about it. She wanted to become a professional painter. She preferred to paint sad scenes with lovers looking depressed or sunsets that had orange and red hues in them. Omce we finished our burgers, I paid the bill and we both left with full stomachs.

"So, where are you staying?" I asked.

"I don't know yet. I was thinking maybe with you? I could share your bed."

"Well, I was thinking maybe the gutter outside Burnie's house, but I guess my bed will do." We laughed and she elbowed my ribs, making me yell at her playfully. She ran, having me chase her back to the office. We were like five year olds. Having Bree here for a while was what I needed. She would take my mind off of Will and maybe even Gavin if I needed to.
