Birthday Suit and Late Night Gift
1 month later
"That's the one!" Barbara squealed as I walked out of the cramped dressing room and into the lavish waiting room. Today was my birthday, unfortunately for me, and Lindsay thought it was would be a great idea to use today as an excuse to look for a wedding dress.
Gavin protested a lot about not coming along, but with a quick kiss and a promise for later tonight, he finally resumed his work at the office.
"I don't know. The waist is kind of tight on the stomach." I sighed, running a hand down my front to make a point.
"Well, there are such things as alterations." Kara shrugged. I glanced at myself in the mirror. The overflowing ends of the full gown did look lovely, but I just felt too uncomfortable in it. I needed to find a dress that was going to be comfortable for me to wear with my slightly bigger stomach. Gavin was very keen on having the wedding next month while I was 4 months pregnant, so I had to find one where the waist wasn't constricting in any way.
"I'm just not feeling it." I shook my head and tugged at the straps on my shoulder.
"Well there's three more on the rack. Maybe one of those will be the one." Lindsay smiled. Out of the four of us, she was the only one to really know the struggle of finding the perfect dress for that one special day. I wanted one where I would feel comfortable and beautiful in, that would make Gavin feel proud that he had me, and where my small bump looked decent enough.
I nodded to Lindsay before taking a light cream coloured one and quickly making my way back into the heated dressing room stall. I wish Bree was here. She was my Maid of Honour, but after what she did to Ray, I excused her from today's events.
Getting the dress on was a difficult thing to do. It was gaudy and had a little more sparkle and lace. I called the shop lady to come and help me zip up the dress before stepping out.
"What about this one?" Lindsay asked, but I could tell she wasn't too pleased with it.
"It's too...big," I gasped out as I felt it feel even more tighter on my stomach, more than the last one. "Not it."
"Maybe we should take a break and just relax," Barbs suggested and I couldn't agree more. After I changed back into my purple jumper and black trousers, we asked the shop owners for the champagne they first offered--except me who requested just water. "Where are you having the wedding?"
"Gavin was thinking the same place Michael and Lindsay had theirs, but--"
"But you want a place of your own, right?" Lindsay finished and I nodded. "What's your favourite place? This could also help with the dress."
"Maybe a beach wedding, but I don't want sand everywhere. There's being on a yacht, but I can't afford that." I rambled on, taking a sip from my water bottle.
I could see Lindsay chewing her lip as she thought, trying to help me with this difficult situation. "What's your favourite movie?"
"What?" I chuckled from her random question.
"What's your favourite movie of all time?" She egged on.
"The Lord of the Rings trilogy. I can't actually choose which one of three." I giggled and shrugged. Kara was busy sifting through the racks to try and find a beautiful dress for me.
"That's interesting," Barbara spoke. "What about a forest-like wedding? You know it's like that one place...." She trailed off trying to figure out the name of the forest home of the elves.
"Lothlorien?" I smiled as she flipped me off.
"Yeah, that. It could be like that. Romantic, beautiful, and simple." She shrugged.
"I'll talk to Gavin." I said. I actually loved the idea of being outside, close to nature and feeling that medieval and graceful feeling of what she said.
"Guys!" Kara yelled from two racks over. "I think I have found it!" Her light, rushing steps were loud as she scurried her way over to us with the dress. Except it was covered with a thick, white cover and no one knew what it was.
"What does it look like?" I asked.
"You'll have to uncover it in the dressing room." She threw it to me and practically pushed me to the dressing door. I laughed to myself before unzipping the case and taking out the dress.
The gown made my breath stop in my throat and butterflies flutter in my stomach.
It was truly beautiful and the lacework was etched elegantly along the chest, arms, and back. I quickly removed my jeans and jumper. I tried to ease the gown up my legs and before I knew it, the dress was snugly hugging me around my body.
Once the lady clipped up the satin buttons in the back, I stepped out to reveal myself to my friends.
"Stunning."
"Gorgeous!"
"If I was a guy, I would do you in the dressing room right now." Barbs lastly said and I had to chuckle at her immaturity. The waist wasn't tight like the others were and the flow of the gown was smooth and light.
"I think this is it." I breathed out, smoothing it down.
"Yeah?" Lindsay grinned.
"Definitely." I smiled at my reflection in the mirror.
___________
I was so happy to be finally home. All day I spent with the three girls, shopping, laughing, and discussing wedding ideas. Gavin didn't care--only about the venue and his tux. So, us girls thought a black and white wedding was easy enough.
It was almost completely dark outside and inside the apartment was shadowed, except for a few candles lighting in random places.
"Gavin?" I called out. I put my bags down near the kitchen and placed the stupid tiara Barbara made me wear onto the counter. That's where I found the first note:
Jane,
It's alright that you came home late, but knowing Lindsay and Barbs, they made you stay out longer than you wanted. I already ate, so there's a bag of your favourite food in the microwave.
I chuckled to myself and went to open the small, silver microwave we owned. Inside was a white bag and immediately the smells that it gave off, had me knowing exactly what was inside. Gavin knew Italian food was one of my favourite type of food. I pulled out the Garlic Chicken Parmesan, my mouth watering from the delicious smells.
I stood at the counter as I ate, the sauce was peppered and had a small ounce of a spicy richness to it. I was down to my last bite when I noticed another note taped to the top of the white styrofoam box it was in.
Now that you've finished your dinner, you should relax. There is a bath drawn just for you with your best pyjamas already in the bathroom.
A bath right now sounded like the perfect remedy to my tired body. I threw away the box, keeping the small note and putting on the counter. I was practically skipping to the bathroom was, my mouth hurting from the large grin that had spread on my face.
As exactly written, there is a warm bath waiting for me, petals from a dark red rose were gently swimming on top of the steaming water. My pyjamas--my Metallica band shirt and Doctor Who boy shorts-- were sitting next to the tap.
I stripped off my dark jeans before my purple jumper, bra, and underwear. The water wasn't too hot, but just right, so when I slipped in, a comfortable sigh left my lips. I pushed around some petals as I laid back against the deep bath.
Steam wafted through the air and coated the mirrors inside. I lathered my hands up with the peaches and cream shampoo and conditioner we had. I wasn't going to be inside very long since I learned hot baths weren't well for a pregnant woman. When I reached for the body wash, a white slip of paper was attached to it and I felt myself become giddy with excitement as I took it off and unfolded it.
I hope you enjoyed the bath and are feeling more relaxed because we both know Lindsay, Barbs, and Kara can be mingy little bums at times. So, please put on your pyjamas and come to our bedroom so you can get your birthday gift.
I moved out of the bath and dried myself off and grabbed my cozy clothes Gavin was so nice to lay out for me. After I was clothed, I made my way into the bedroom. It was the same as the living area where it was dimly lit with a few candles spread out everywhere.
My eyes went to the bed. On top was one more note attached to a single rose, and a long silver box. I padded over and carefully picked up the rose with the small square note.
The rose was Ray's idea, but the item inside the box was all mine.
Love, Gavin
I laughed at the mention of Ray's idea of the rose, but my mind was thinking about the insides of the box. I placed the rose back down before claiming the box and moving my thumb up to open it.
It was empty. Except for a last letter.
Stand still.
I furrowed my brows, not sure what he meant before I felt two arms move over my shoulders. A slight cold touch had me look down and see a necklace being placed on me.
The chain was a light gold, a small light blue gem on each side. In the middle an intricate design dangled down a little higher above my chest with another blue jewel in the middle. The arms that encircled me, pulled at my hand and dropped two golden flowered earrings into my palm.
"I wanted to place the necklace on you myself. That's why it wasn't inside the box." Gavin's voice said from behind me. I turned to stare into his green eyes.
"They're beautiful." I said, my free hand touching the base of the necklace.
"Do you know who wore them?" He asked, placing his hand under my chin to raise my face closer to him.
"Who?" I smiled a little.
"Eowyn," He smirked and I giggled at his Lord of the Rings idea. "I would have gotten you the headpiece, but we don't live in medieval times." He chuckled and I did too.
"Well, I love it and thanks so much for everything else. The food and bath. I needed it." I said and kissed his lips softly.
"That's why I did it and there's a reason why I got you this exact gift," He touched the necklace and looked down at the earrings in my hand. "I remember what you said on our first date; at the dinner. You told me, if you ever had children you would name them Oliver after your grandfather and Eowyn after your favourite female character in your favourite movies. So," He placed a hand on my stomach, his finger soothingly rubbing against it. "If our child happens to be a girl, the necklace and the earrings will be a part of her in a way. You wear them for her until she comes of age and she can wear these on her own and she knows exactly why she's named that and what these mean." He smiled, definitely looking nervous.
I looked back, green eyes igniting with adoration and love. Without a second thought, I harshly pressed my lips against his and he kissed me with same equal fervor I gave him.
In just one night, he made me fall in love with him all over again.
