Agreements and Late Night Bliss

"Jane?" Matt said, his voice was filled with confusion and wonderment. After my friend's death, he had went on a drinking spree until his liver had made him halt and put down the beer bottle.

I looked up and met those identical eyes that reminded me so much of Will. "Hi, Matt." My voice was quiet.

"It's so good to see you," He brought me into a hug as if nothing had happened between me, him, and my best friend. "What are you doing here? I thought you moved away."

"I did. My dad's in the hospital. I'm visiting." I glanced over to where Burnie, Gavin, and Dan sat, watching the whole scenario.

"Oh, I'm so sorry. Well, Will's been talking about you non-stop, wondering when you'd be back." You mean yelling and cursing and throwing fits? I guess he didn't know his older brother was in jail somewhere in America.

"That's great. Hey, I'm with friends right now, so maybe later we can have a chat?" I said. I wasn't really going to contact him later, but I was going to say anything to remove him from my sight.

"Oh, yeah. Okay," he looked over to my group. "Well, see you around." He gave me another hug before heading out. I let out an excruciating sigh before sitting down between Gavin and Dan.

"Who the hell was that?" Asked Gavin, probably hoping that wasn't another encounter with an ex-boyfriend.

"Will's younger brother." Burnie inhaled a sharp breath and I saw Gavin's eyes ignite with fiery anger, but I touched his leg and he simmered down a bit.

"Let's just...let's just forget him and enjoy our food." I nodded, eyebrows raised. Dan watched us, completely confused, but didn't argue and happily ordered two main dishes for his lunch. I thought it quite odd he would do this since he could have just ordered an appetizer, but when Gavin and Burnie began laughing I guessed it was something he normally did.

"So, Jay," Gavin had taught Dan my nickname. "Gavin and I decided on doing a Slow Mo Guys video tomorrow. Maybe you could come and either watch or be part of it? You know, get your mind off your dad and have some fun?" He smiled a genuine smile. Just over this lunch, I have grown to love Dan. He hit a funny bone that I just couldn't get over.

I glanced at Burnie, who didn't seem to mind, but was nodding at what Dan said. "You should do it. You don't have to spend your whole trip moping around. I'm sure your dad isn't going anywhere. I'll make sure he's fine." Burnie smiled.

"Well," I paused. "Yeah, I guess I'll help with your guys' video. That's be fun." I took a sip of my tea.

"Brilliant. We rarely have guests." Dan smiled, taking his last bite of the burger he had ordered. He had finished the fish and chips before the burger even made its journey to our table.

"Wow. That was a good meal," Dan spoke again.

"How would you have known? You scarfed down the whole bloody thing without taking a breath!" Gavin laughed. His warm hand touched my thigh, making me jump, but then relaxed as he placed it gently on my knee.

"I did taste it. That's why I couldn't stop myself from eating it so fast." Dan laughed along.

"Alright, girls. Calm down," I said. "We should get going." Outside the sky was starting to turn darker, but the sun's last rays of light still painted the sky. We had gotten so caught up with each other we had stayed here longer than necessary.

"Yeah. I'll go with you guys, say goodbye then head back to my parents." Gavin looked at Burnie and me.

We parted ways with Dan, who took a cab back to his grandparents small home. We got into our rental car, Burnie driving and Gavin and I in the back. The drive was quiet, but not an awkward silence. More...subtle.

We approached the hotel, went to the valet, and stepped out to let them park it for us. Gavin went with us to our rooms. We stopped by Burnie's who's room was the closest to the lift and said goodnight.

"So, yeah, just go and do the video. It'd be good for you." Burnie nodded to me.

"I will. Thanks. Just let my dad know why I did't come with you and that I'll be coming later tomorrow." I told Burnie.

"Oh, I will." He gave me a high five before closing the door to his room. Gavin and I went away to where my room was. I couldn't believe I saw Matt today. The gall of him to just talk to me was unbelievable. He knew how much I hated his guts because of my friend. He knew what a terrible last two years with his brother I had. Sometimes people just didn't know when to leave me alone.

We stopped just outside my door, Gavin's hands were in his pockets. It felt like we were teenagers and he was bringing me home from our first date. He just looked so nervous.

"Sorry you didn't get to meet my dad. You can tomorrow though."

"Oh, it's okay. He had tests and whatever, so it's understandable," He paused before asking a question he had been thinking of for a while. "Are we going to tell him? Your dad? About us?"

"Well, I don't know. What do you think? I haven't put much thought into that. I've just been busy hoping he's alright..." I said.

"I know. It's just...It would be nice if someone knew besides the lads or Jack and Geoff and Griffon. You know...someone that truly matters to you, maybe? And we all know telling Burnie is a big no-no." Gavin smiles a little as I chuckled lightly.

"Well...I guess we can. I don't think he'd be angry with me since I'm a grown woman and I can make my own choices. Maybe cautious because of the whole Will thing," Gavin's jaw tightened and I touched his arm. "But not angry. So yeah. Sure. Let's do it." I nodded.

"Great," He smiled. "But if you're a grown woman why not just tell Burnie and the others?" He raised an eyebrow.

"Because whereas my dad is a gentle, soft guy, Burnie isn't afraid to get his hands dirty. With most likely your blood." Gavin laughed at that.

"Alright, I should get going, love." Gavin bent down to kiss me, raising my chin with his fingertips. His lips touched mine and I stood on my tip toes to deepen the kiss. It felt good to finally do this. Burnie was around with us now, so it would be harder to have any private moments.

I wanted him to stay. I didn't want him to leave my grasp for one second.

"Stay." I whispered when he pulled back a little.

"Second time I've heard that," Gavin grinned. "At least this time your sober. " This time I smiled and pulled him to me again, pressing the kiss harder. Gavin wrapped his right arm around my waist as he dug into my pockets for the key card. Once he retrieved it, he opened the door with a slide of the card, pushed us in, and closed the door behind us, also making sure the door was locked.

He moved us to the bed. As I pulled t shirt over my head, we sort of tripped, but thankfully the bed was underneath to catch us. Gavin chuckled before taking his own shirt off and trailing his kisses from my lips down to my collarbone.

He did stay. All night, comforting me with his kisses and warm embrace.
