~ Chapter 20 ~

Sky's POV

I had sat next to Tobin on the bus over from the airport, my air pods playing the same song on repeat. I don't know what it was about the music, I wasn't really even paying attention to he song, but the repetitive nature of it calmed me. With Tobin by my side, I knew I would be okay.

We were greeted by the rest of the team at the hotel, Kristie being the first one to introduce herself. I liked them all, their carefree and chaotic nature being the driven motivation of the team. I felt like I belonged, and that, to me, was special.

Jill greeted me in the hotel lobby, coming up and giving me a hug before going back to talk to her staff.

"Hey Sky. It's nice to see you wearing that kit." I smiled at her, hugging back. "You really do deserve this place, don't let anyone tell you otherwise." Jill added.

She was referring to the media outbreak after the roster was released. Everyone seemed to think that I didn't have feelings as they talked about my inexperience, some of the channels like ESPN going as far to say that it was only down to favouritism from Jill that I even made it. So far not one of them had mentioned my home life, but I knew it was only a matter of time before that was realeased. I was glad that it hadn't been yet, because when it was, all hell would break loose. As it was, I was yet to tell the team, and even the thought of that made me freak out.

"Okay ladies, settle down!" Jill said, as the team's conversations came to a close. "I've put the room allocations up on the wall over there." She pointed to the wall behind her, housing other things such as the hotel's rules and regulations.

The volume rose as everyone rushed over to the wall, screaming and shouting as they found out who they were rooming with. I hung back with Morgan, thinking it would be better to take a look when it was less crowded. She seemed to have the same idea as we looked around for any clue about who we were with.

"They're a bit crazy huh." She said, staring at Mal as she gave her a thumbs up.

I laughed, "yeah just a bit. Are they always like this?"

"Some of them no. But then you've got the Kelleys and the Pinoes who are basically just five year olds at all times."

I knew all about Kelley and Pinoe from the USA videos on YouTube. I loved their pranks, and it was safe to say that they lived up to my expectations in real life. The only thing that was different was Kelley's mature side. When she wasn't goofing around with the others Kelley was like a mom, always looking out for you. It was reassuring.

I watched as Tobin had a moment with Christen. I guess they didn't get roomed together. It was kind of funny to be honest. From here it looked like a really emotional proposal, Tobin one knee as Chris hugged and laughed at her. After a while Tobin wandered back over to me, Morgan having left for a conversation with Mal.

"You're with me and Alex." She smiled, dragging me over to the huddle of girls now waiting for Jill to speak again.

"Youve got some free time now to settle in and unpack. We have a team meeting at 7, and I know that you've probably organised some team bonding for after that. Make sure you don't go to bed too late tonight, it's going to be intense tomorrow." Jill backed away from where she was standing as we dispersed off to our rooms, chatting away freely. However, before Alex, Tobin and I had a chance to leave, she called us over, looking serious.

"Have you told the team yet?" I shook my head, partly in annoyance. I barely knew the girls yet, how could I have told them already?

"I was going to at team bonding tonight. Apparently we're playing truth or dare, so it's definitely going to be brought up at some point." Tobin put her hand on my shoulder as I played with my bracelet. It was a nervous habit, something that she had caught onto in the first few days at her house.

"okay. It's just that we want to keep you safe, and the best way to do that is to be open." Jill gave me an apologetic smile as I tensed. It wasn't that easy. It's not something that I could just come out with, like who I supported or where I lived. It was personal. I liked Jill, but why could she not see that I was uncomfortable with it all?

"She knows that. Thanks Jill." Alex said, as Tobin lead me away to the elevator.

~~

"Team bonding!" Ash yelled, jumping onto Christens bed. Chris was rooming with Ali and Becky, tonights chosen room. It seemed like Jill was keeping couples separate, even though Chris and Toby weren't actually official yet as far as we knew.

"Yeah yeah Ash turn the volume down." Tobin said, laughing. We were squished onto a bean bag next to the bed, in something that looked like an oddly shaped circle.

The team meeting wasn't too strenuous. Jill layed out the rules of the camp, and introduced me properly to everyone. They were all really friendly, Tierna Davidson asking me to so next to her. I did, shooting her a grateful smile.

"Hey, us young ones gotta stick together." She whispered, laughing at my overwhelmed expression. "Don't worry."

"Go on then, put me out of my misery." Kristie moaned, "are we playing truth or dare?"

"Yup." Ali smiled, smacking Ash's head as she went to say something no doubt stupid.

The night started off fun and light hearted. We went around the circle, asking truth or dare. Tobin was made to have 5 minutes of heaven with the person to her right, which just happened to be Christen. They disappeared off into the closet while the game continued. God knows what happened in there, but they came out flushed and very happy.

Honestly, the game was quite scary. I started off just opting for dares. They were pretty harmless, along the lines of removing an item of clothing; my socks, and prank calling a pizza place. It was fun, I felt fully happy for the first time in a few months. Toby was right, this team really was family.

After a while the dares became easier and the truths less juicy. The game went flat. Ash was clearly restless, and kept fidgeting on the bed next to Ali.

Only a few minutes passed before she finally called the shots.

"That's it I'm bored." A smirk formulated on her face, "let's get to know the rookie."

Everyone sat up, clearly interested and excited to get to know more about me.

"Ash, I don't know it that's a good idea-" Alex began, before I nudged her from the side.

"Al chill, I'll be fine."

"And I need to tell them anyway." I added into her ear before turning back to Ash. "Do your worst."

They started off slow, with my favourite soccer team; Barcelona and Arsenal, whether I liked Tobin or Alex best; I answered Tobin of course while Alex faked mock offence, and where I would like to travel to in the world. I thought about it for a second, before saying England. I don't know why but the simplicity of the old country always inspired me, and I would love to see the Gunners play in London, women and men alike.

I had been answering questions for about half an hour when I was asked what I feared most: what happened to my parents. It stemmed off a question about how I knew Tobin, which I passed off using the excuse of I met her when some of the team came to my high school. Ash was convinced as she'd been there on the day, but Becky clearly wasn't. She asked me the dreaded question honestly enough, and to be honest, for people who didn't know about what did happen with my parents, it was a harmless question.

The team stared at me expectantly.

"You don't have to." Tobin whispered, turning her back on the others.

I shook my head. I did have to. After that hour of making friends and enjoying the team's company, they deserved to know. After all, Tobin had told them about her and they all seemed to accept it. I liked the team, and if I was going to be good on the pitch, I had to form chemistry with them off it.

So I told them everything.

A/N: Hey guys! I hope you're enjoying the book so far. I went back to school today and my GCSES are coming up in the summer, so if you are expecting daily updates, that will only be at the weekends now. In the meantime, comment Team Tobin or Team Alex for Sky's fave. :)
