nine, katherine

The Doppelgänger and original hybrid sat on the couch, both still trying to process all the words exchanged with each other. However, at the moment all Estella Henderson wanted was to go home and take a long hot shower.

"You know, Nik. I've always wanted to walk in the rain." Ella comments standing up to look out the window. It would also be romantic, the doppelgänger thinks to herself, wanting to distract her mind.

The hybrid eyes immediately followed her and he smiled at her happiness. However, still deep in thought, thinking of Katherine. She was always a thorn in his spine, and because of her minions the vampire now probably knows about another doppelgänger. His doppelgänger.

"What if you get sick?" Klaus asked softly knowing what she was going to say when he saw her smirk, "Well, lucky me. I know someone that can cure me."

Klaus shakes his head with a smile when Ella sits back down with him, "Please Nik, besides I need to change and work. Oh shit! Work!"

Her eyes widen in realization and a part of her starts freaking out. "I can't lose my job-"

Klaus instantly grabbed her hand and calmed her down, "Don't worry, turns out Jennifer texted Kimberly that you were sick so she gave you the weekend off."

Estella sighed in relief and squeezed Nik's hand gently, "I'm glad, I don't want to get fired."

Klaus chuckles amused, "I don't think Kimberly would fire you. At the meeting, she talked highly of you and loves all your work."

"I am her favorite worker." Ella brags making Nik chuckle. He appreciated that the human doppelgänger was back to her original personality. Not bringing up anything or asking too many questions. Yet at least.

"Come on, but I don't have an umbrella," The hybrid says standing up and holding out his hand for her to grab.

Ella quickly grabs his hand and stands up, "No worries, it isn't raining too hard."

They both walk out and start walking, Nik lives around 10 minutes from her. So they weren't going to be walking for too long.

Ella felt happy at the moment, walking in the rain but also very lost. She was still a bit shocked at the events from yesterday and everything Nik told her. But despise all that, she just wanted to sleep.

The doppelgänger also felt relieved that all her pain and scars from yesterday weren't visible. A part of her still felt afraid because, after all, she was still human.

No doubt nightmares would be an issue but at the moment Ella didn't want to think or worry about that.

Klaus felt the same although there was a small part of him that felt guilty. He avoided talking about Katherine because if he talked about her, then he would've had to start from the beginning. Aka Tatia.

The hybrid was so stuck in his thoughts, that he didn't notice a pair of similar brown eyes glaring and following his every move. A pair of eyes that looked exactly like Estella's.

Estella was looking at Nik and could tell there was more he wanted to say but didn't. She said nothing just watching as people walk by. Estella didn't want to scare him off or make him realize that she was not what he wanted. A helpless human who would constantly need saving.

After being alone all her life, Ella didn't want to scare off the one person that made her feel...happy.

When they reached her apartment, they looked at each other and Ella bit her lip. Klaus thought she looked beautiful, even if her hair and clothes were all wet, it still made her look flawless and pretty.

"I'll text you later okay? Get some rest, I need to take care of something." Klaus says handing Ella her phone, and looks around the area. Remembering the two vampires that had exposed Estella to the truth and hurt her in the process. Probably even traumatized her.

Estella nodded and hugged him quickly, "Thank you for telling me everything. I'll call you later okay."

Klaus closed his eyes as he hugged her back before turning around and walking away. Estella quietly watched as he walked further and further from her.

The brunette wasn't sure if she wanted to be alone right now but she knew Klaus had better things to do than be with her.

She turns to look at the door and shivers remembering Justin had slammed her head against the wall. She was getting an odd sensation being there alone. A part of her wished Nik would have stayed but Ella knew she couldn't be depended on him.

Her hands immediately go up to her neck and touch her necklace. Something felt off, Ella felt like someone was watching her but when she looked around, no one was around.

Estella closes the door softly and lends against it for a minute. Everything was still fresh in her mind and although the scars weren't there, it felt like they were.

Getting up, the brunette rushed to the bathroom and took a quick shower. Just wanting to be out of the bloody, wet, and dirty clothes. The clothes that now held awful memories.

Wrapped in a towel, Ella looked at her reflection in the mirror and watched tears fall from her eyes. It was hard to pretend to be okay when being alone. Her left hand reaches her neck and Ella softly tugs the necklace.

Every part of her body was practically screaming not to take it off. But with one last tug, the necklace fell. Hitting the sink and making a huge sound that echoed around the room.

Through the reflection, Estella watches the necklace fall against the sink. But quickly regrets it because she feels this awful feeling her in stomach. The human wraps her hand around her throat, feeling this burning sensation.

Eyes widen in realization, Estella rushes to the kneel against the toilet and starts throwing up. Once her throat stopped burning, Ella got up and started to brush her teeth until the gross taste was out of her mouth.

Rushing to the room, the doppelgänger changes into a black tank top and teddy bear pajama pants. Laying on the bed, Estella stared up at the ceiling wanting to wake up from a horrible dream. She wished to fall asleep and forget all about the day she just experienced.

Looking to the side, Estella grabs her copy of Little Women. Trembling hands open the book, putting out the bookmark, and tries really hard to read it. But the wheels in her head kept spinning, not letting Ella concentrate on the words in front of her. Even if she was reading them, she couldn't comprehend them.

In anger, the book gets thrown against the wall in frustration. Estella wanted to scream until her lungs hurt. But the girl just stays put. Just staring blankly at the wall.

After what felt like forever, the doorbell rang. Estella looked to the side and noticed it was barely 6:53 pm.

Getting up, the brunette walks to open the door wondering and hoping it was Lilliana or Scarlett. Estella grabbed the door knob and open it.

However, her eyes widen in shock when they realize who was behind the door.

Estella's exact face was staring at her with a smirk, the human doppelgänger gasped and walked to slam the door shut but couldn't.

Katherine looks directly into her eyes and says, "Invite me in."

Estella unwillingly does and steps backward when her look-alike walks in, closing the door behind her.

What was happening was that finally catching up with Estella so she let out a horrified scream and runs towards the bedroom.

However before Estella can get too far, Katherine stands in front of her and shoves her against to wall. The human gets shoved and her head slams against a small mirror hanging on the wall.

Blood was now trailing down Ella's face, her eyes closed. The pain was unbearable, feeling tiny pieces of glass shoved into the side of her face.

"Oops, didn't mean to do that." The vampire doppelgänger says kneeling in front of the human and grabbing her bloody face. "That looks painful."

Ella tries to fight Katherine's grip but doesn't stand a chance. That only makes Katherine grip tighter, which makes the human wince and let out a small cry.

Estella finds her voice still dry and through the pain asks, "W-who are you?"

The trembling words make Katherine laugh, "Don't tell me that bastard didn't tell you about me...about us." At last Katherine finally steps away from Ella and walks to lean against the wall, watching her.

Ella's confused look only makes Katherine laugh louder, "I'm Katherine. Klaus...really didn't tell you about us? How ironic, of course, he didn't. He's playing you, sweetheart."

Despite being afraid to say anything, Ella shakes her head and tries to defend the man who has been nothing but kind to her. However, the name Katherine echoed in her mind. Now remember all the times people who mistaked her for Katherine. Nik had also called her Katherine when they first met, everything was now making actual sense.

"What? No, Nik wouldn't-" but Katherine cuts her, her face no longer looking amused, but instead filled with anger.

"He would and he is! Klaus Mikaelson is the devil and he needs your human blood to create another army of hybrids."

"I-I don't understand, why do you look like me?" Those words only amused the vampire.

"It's the other way around, sweetheart. I was born over 500 years ago, you look like me." Katherine doesn't take her eyes off the human and watches as Ella holds her face in pain.

"We're doppelgängers, created to be used for Klaus's breaking ritual. Every 500 years a new one is born." Those words make Estella realize what that meant, this whole time she was connected and evolved in Nik's world.

"Wait so I'm the next one? But I thought Nik already broke his curse."

Katherine smiles impressed that she caught onto that and that this one isn't as stupid as Elena Gilbert. The vampire rushes to the kitchen to grab a towel and ice pack.

Using her unnatural speed, the vampire is suddenly in front of Estella which makes her jump surprised. Still not used to the speed and still very much afraid of the vampire in front of her.

"Here wipe your face, your blood is making me hungry." The human's eyes widen and she slowly gets up and walks to her bedroom.

Katherine allows that and walks behind her, eyeing the bedroom. Curious as to why there aren't many family pictures or anything sentimental in it.

Estella sat on her vanity chair and tried hard to not burst out crying when seeing her face for the first time. Glass was definitely piercing her skin, and the side of her face was bloody.

Katherine watched her closely, seeing the fear in the human's eyes satisfied the vampire. As Ella wipes her face softly, her eyes meet Katherine through the mirror. "Tell me more,"

Katherine smirked, loving that she would be the one to expose Klaus to this doppelgänger.

"As you can obviously tell, we look exactly the same. However, you do look more skinnier and paler." Katherine comments noticing some difference between the two. "We are doppelgängers of a women from thousands of years ago named Amara. Then came Tatia, Klaus's...how do you say it, lover."

Katherine stopped when she noticed Estella flinch, looking very hurt and confused. Klaus lover? Was Katherine lying to hurt her? But why would she lie about something like that?

"Then I came along the prettiest one. After me was the uglier one, Elena Gilbert-"

"I thought we all looked the same." Ella interrupted slightly confused but closed her mouth when she met the vampire's glare.

"Not everything is about looks, Estella. What's inside matters. But after Elena, comes you." Katherine stopped and walked over to Ella.

Ella stayed very still, not moving. Watching through the mirror as Katherine touched her hair, "You are very special Estella Henderson. Born the day Klaus broke his ritual and are the last human doppelgänger."

The wheels were turning inside Ella's head, "So there won't be another doppelgänger in 500 years?" Katherine shook her head.

"But didn't Nik break his curse recently?" The human asks, not understanding the timeline.

"That's what makes you so interesting, it's barely been a couple of years." Katherine meets her look, "I'm not sure if that matters, all I know is you're the last one. Not sure if I should kill you or keep you as a pet."

"Both of those ideas don't sound very appealing," Estella comments making the vampire chuckle. But after a moment, asks "Tell about about Tatia."

"Tatia was Klaus's first and true love, he was heartbroken when his mother killed her. Some say he never truly love again. It must be odd for him since we all look exactly like her. Simply a walking reminder of his first love."

Ella didn't shed a tear, or show any emotions. Her face was instead numb, feeling sick over the thought of simply being Klaus's reminders or worse replacement.

At the moment, all Ella wanted was to get away from the vampire lookalike.

"You had a heart necklace around your neck, where is it?" Katherine asks looking around the room.

"It's in the bathroom sink, it felt off having it on." Katherine leaves to get it when Estella quickly makes a run for it towards the door. She wants to go to the hospital and just stay there until all her problems go away.

The vampire heard the human run but didn't bother to stop her because that girl was not running back into Klaus's open arms. It seems Katherine had been successful in her goal of tearing Ella away from the hybrid. Which is exactly what Katherine wanted.

Katherine wraps her hand around the necklace and smirks, wanting to mess with Klaus. The vampire planned to tell Klaus to stay away from her and run away (as Estella of course). Maybe after she could turn Ella into a vampire and keep her as a pet/kind of friend. The vampire also wanted to know more about the human because there has to be a purpose to her. Katherine rolled her eyes, not wanting to come up with details at the moment.

The vampire doppelgänger put the necklace on but immediately felt a wave of something unpleasant. Her neck inched, it felt like a burning feeling. Before Katherine could take the necklace off there was a loud knock at the door.

Using her unnatural speed, the vampire changes into a clean pair of pajamas. And walks towards the door, Katherine puts on her best Elena face and opens the door.

Upon opening the door, Katherine was a bit surprised to see the hybrid looking a bit frantic. However, Klaus didn't seem to notice the look.

Sensing that Klaus may already be invited in, Katherine stepped aside. Ignoring the burning sensation she felt on her neck.

"Ella," Klaus signs and relief, upon seeing her changed and better, "I'm glad you're better, love. I kept texting you but haven't getting a reply."

Feeling paranoid, the hybrid closed the door behind him and finally took a good look at Estella. Klaus stood in front of her for a second, eyeing the necklace before he graded the imposter by the neck and slammed her to the wall.

"Katherine." The name is said with such hate and dislike that Katherine regrets all of her actions toward the human doppelgänger.
