Keep running
I toss and turn in my sleep, desperately trying to get away from the monster that is chasing me. I run down a dimly lit corridor, on each wall, a mirror hung. No matter how far I ran, the monster chasing me was relentless, it's foot falls were fast and directly behind me. I reached the end, only to find two new corridors...Left...and Right. I didn't even wait even a split second, before dashing down the left corridor. The monster didn't even alter it's course to even consider, if I had went in the other direction. There was a heavy pounding in my head, as if someone was speaking to me...Insults...that's all I could hear. They rained down upon me, similar to how the consistent rain of heavy, and ever growing closer, footsteps behind me.
Your ugly ...
"No I'm not"
Your friends get sick of talking to you...
"I know they care about me"
...Do they?
With that, the insults were quickly cut off...as I reached a dead end. My head felt as if it was swelling at an alarming rate. My heart was pounding, as I heard the once apparent monster that was running, stop. I slowly turned around, finding the monster staring at the ground.
This monster was terrifying...
It looked just like me...
But...different...
It was my height, still having my dark brown curly hair that was cut close to my head. It was in grey jeans, wearing the ever so recognizable, blink-182 shirt that I have. Except the shirt was drenched in blood. How? I have no goddamn clue. Shoes...it didn't have any on. It's shoulder were sagging, but were as ridged as wood in a table. It's hand were not only covered in blood, but were twitching. Whereas mine were shaking in fear, the whole scenario scaring me shitless. I had been running on only adrenaline, every single muscle in my body crying out for a break.
..But this monster terrified me. It looked like me, everything down to the detail. The insults I can ignore, but this..thing? It wanted me, and it wanted me bad. The urge to run at the beginning of this horrid scenario was so strong, I didn't even have time to process what to do, before I was tearing my way down the corridor. I ran, and I kept running, I didn't want to stop.
..But I took a wrong turn, the results of my beginning actions finally catching up to me, meeting me at the end of this corridor. Suddenly, the monster began to chuckle, it drooping shoulders shaking, in a jerking motion. The atmosphere all of sudden felt heavy, dark, and thick with suspense. The chuckling only grew louder, more creepier. The monster was full on laughing now, not a innocent chuckle...no...like a sinister cackle. It kept its eyes trained on the ground, before it spoke, "Took a wrong turn, haven't we Elijah?"
It's voice was as deep has mine, but it felt darker, more sinister.
"Just leave me alone, I just want to be left alone" I replied
It took a while to respond, eventually saying, "...I can't do that...you started this, and I'm going to finish it" it said before chuckling even darker then before, and taking a step towards me.
I took a step back, not wanting this monster anywhere close to me. "Stay the fuck back" I said, my voice shook with each breathe I took in.
It did nothing to deter it off it's already set objective...me.
"I'm going to finish this..."
"No stay away from me" I said. I knew my few steps backwards were going to add up, as my back suddenly hit the wall behind me. The monster kept walking in till it was a foot away from me, its eyes still trained on the ground, my usual curly, floppy bangs hiding their eyes. The monster was so close that I could finally see more of "my" face. All the bumps, all the pimples, all the marks I suffered as a kid due to my stupidity. It had a smile on it's face, a grin of some form, but a grin that drove fear up my spine and a knife into my brain.
It was a dark grin...blood at the corner of it's mouth, as if it had ate too many cherry pies. Its eyes were still strained downward, but the monster leaned towards my left ear as it surged forward. It's hand pinned mine to my sides, immobilized.
"This has got to be a dream" I thought as I closed my eyes and tried to lean away from the cold breathe blowing against my neck.
"Do you really believe that bullshit? If it is, do you want to wake up?" the monster questioned, it's grip tightening on my wrist that were pinned down. This monster was strong, since I couldn't even move under its grip.
"I know it's a dream...it has to be" I replied, not giving into the monster words.
"Not everything is as it seems, as not everything is forgotten once you wake up"
"I don't want to remember this...this was horrible..."
"Just like how you choose to not remember, or even talk about Jordan? Or Nana? Perhaps it's just a dream, and you won't remember this when you wake up...but not all is forgotten, its just buried under false memories because you are too scared to dig up the old, forgotten truth's" it said, whispering into my ear, causing my breathe to hitch at the mentions of Nana and Jordan.
"Those are memories best left forgotten...I don't want to think about those" I reply, my body violently shuddering and shaking, as the memories try to dig their way to the front base of my skull.
"They don't deserve to be forgotten, their gone, and your choosing to push them away...your such a bitch"
"No, I'm going to forget about them, no matter what anyone say's to me. I want to be left alone with thought's of different things, not memories that don't have anything to do with me"
"Why do you wish to forget about them? Haven't they done nothing wrong to you?"
This caused a dark chuckle to escape out of my mouth, despite my quivering body. This surprised the monster, as it hadn't been expecting me to laugh, at least...
Not as dark as I had.
"You seemingly know this, and I don't plan on rehashing a memory that I would rather leave forgotten" I replied, my shoulders drooped, mouth formed into a dark, small smirk. Suddenly, the monster laughed as well, it's body shaking, the same dark chuckle from before. It suddenly switched it's left hand onto my neck, not pressing lightly, but not pressing hard enough to leave me winded if it let go.
"Isn't that strange? Everything that you have buried deep inside your mind, I have access to. All your fears, anxieties, problems...thoughts. Their yours...
but their mine too"
With that, as if the monster threw all of it's weight into it's left hand around my throat, it began to choke me. I began to struggle, my released right hand beating into it's back, trying to get it too relieve the pressure around my throat. It turned it's head towards me as my vision began fading, and what stared back at me were my usually hazel eyes...
...except they weren't even my hazel eyes. They lacked everything, emotion being the biggest and most evident. The pupils were contracted, small and beady, the hazel out shadowing the pupil. They seemingly looked crazed, possibly with rushing adrenaline, maybe from the urge to chase me earlier being relived. They were crazed, and caused the dark rings under it's eyes to stand out.
The monster is stronger then once believed, as it lift me up by the one arm around my throat.
"Once you wake up Elijah, get ready for school. Get ready for the life that you hate. I won't be plaguing you, but I will always be their, and i know how you feel, how you think, everything. This is just the beginning" the voice said.
And before my vision completely faded into darkness, the monster's last words were...
"I'm the only one that will have your back through your ride to hell"
With that, I startled out of my sleep, a minute after my alarm on my phone went off, "5:01" it read. I began to shiver, as I was drenched in cold sweat. My room was cold, cold air rushing into my nostrils, greeting me like a harsh slap in the face.
...time to get up I guess...
