Chapter 45

Hannah may not have dreamed of getting married, yet here she was flying off to her honeymoon. She had, however, always dreamed of going to an F1 race, and now that dream was finally coming true. She looked over her tickets, wrapped in pretty ribbon, as she and Olli sat on the plane. Hannah had bought these tickets to the Belgian grand prix months ago when they first went on sale, and was going to surprise Olli with the tickets for his birthday. She thought it was so convenient that there was a F1 race the day after Olli's birthday, but never imagined that she would be going there on her honeymoon. She had booked a nice hotel room, although at the time she had no intention of it being the place she spent her wedding night.

She shook Olli awake because they were going to be landing soon. He turned to Hannah with sleepy, happy eyes, and smiled down at his little wife. He couldn't believe he was married; he was still waiting for it to hit him. "Hello, wife," he said, just liking the sound of that word.

"I have a surprise for you," she grinned. "It was going to be your birthday present, but now I guess it's kind of a wedding present too." She produced the tickets from her purse where she'd hidden them and handed them to Olli. His face lit up as he looked them over and untied the ribbon.

"So we're actually going to Belgium? That's not just a stop on the flight to Paris?" He laughed, realizing how tired he'd been when Hannah told him that, and that he'd believed her.

They were originally going to be there for the whole weekend, watching the qualifying and practice runs on Friday and Saturday, and then watching the race on Sunday. However, due to their last minute wedding, they would just be spending Sunday in Belgium watching the race.

"We have gold level tickets, which means they're pretty close. We'll be sitting near my favorite part of the track, Eau Rouge. It's this corner and hill set that's pretty difficult because they come out of another corner, called La Source, and the go up a hill and....and it's easier to see it than explain it. It's very cool though." Hannah chatted with him as they found their seats, and even though Olli had grown to like F1 through his relationship with Hannah, he wasn't quite as interested (or obsessed) with it as Hannah was.

It was sunny, and even with their sunglasses, it was still rather bright. He squinted at the track and looked over the hill/turn Hannah had been describing. It didn't look like much from here, but he was sure once the cars sped over it at 300 kmh it would be quite impressive.

Hannah noticed him squinting at the track and pulled two red, matching Ferrari hats out of her bag. "I picked these up on the way in. They look like a regular baseball cap, but they're surprisingly expensive so don't lose it." She handed one to him and fitted the other on her head, poking her ponytail through the back.

"Ferrari?" Olli asked.

"Well, Kimi Raikkonen is your favorite driver, right? Because he's Finnish?"

Olli laughed at her assumption, and stated, "Valtteri Bottas is also Finnish, maybe he's my favorite driver. And by that logic, your favorite driver should be....that's right, none of them are American."

"Oh shut up," smiled at him. "Who is your favorite then?"

"I know you like Vettel, and I think he's okay. But I quite like Ricciardo. He did pretty well last season, and I like the way he drives. He has a nice attitude. What do they call him? Hedgehog?"

"Honey badger. And wow, that is a very thorough answer. I didn't realize you paid attention to it that closely."

"I only really noticed him because he was Vettel's teammate last year on Red Bull, and you like Vettel, so I thought why not like his teammate? But then I ended up really liking him and his driving style."

Hannah looked up at him and raised her eyebrows. "So I should have gotten you a Red Bull hat?"

"No, I'm fine with this, thanks," he slipped the red hat on his head. "I do like Raikkonen, he's just not my favorite."

"So we have a bit of competition here. Let's see who wins, you're guy, or mine."

"And who exactly is your guy?"

"Well, you're my guy of course, but I mean Vettel or Ricciardo. We'll pin two former teammates against each other. For fun, of course," Hannah added.

"Oh? So what do I get if Ricciardo wins?"

Hannah bit her lip and thought for a minute, and then smiled and whispered in his ear. "You get what we did last night."

"I like that, but how exactly is that a loss for you?"

"Because I'm really sore!" She added quietly.

"So what do you get if you win?"

"How about, the same thing only backwards, so you're the one that'll be sore."

Olli opened his mouth to protest, but thought about it for a minute. "That might actually be possible."

Hannah shot him a sly grin and started to say 'it's on' but was interrupted by the start of the race.

It was exhilarating, to say the least. To see the cars that close, and feel them fly by at unspeakable speeds, was something Hannah had only dreamed off. To witness her first F1 race with her new husband was something she never dreamed of, but she wouldn't have it any other way. They'd watched races together on TV, often recorded because they were at off hours with their schedules, but nothing compared to seeing it live. It's like seeing your favorite band play for the first time, except not knowing any of the songs. Lap after lap, Hannah tried to track her favorite driver's position in the race, but they rushed passed them so fast it was impossible. Despite this, it was still an amazing experience, and Hannah enjoyed every minute of it.

As the race wound down to the last few laps, Hannah and Olli suddenly realized neither of their preferred drivers were going to win. Vettel looked like he was going to make podium, but would that count? Hannah hoped so.

Olli didn't feel the same way. After they rushed toward the end of the race with the rest of the crowd to get as close to the podium as possible, and the German national anthem finished playing, Olli turned to Hannah with a mixed expression.

"We didn't talk about what we would do if we both lost."

"Then I guess we'll both be sore," Hannah shrugged and winked before looking back up at her favorite driver, just yards away from her. Vettel may not have been first, but at least he came in in the top three and she got to see him get a trophy.

Exhausted, the couple finally made the trek back to their hotel room to pay up for losing their bet. Despite the fact that they were pretty tired and would much rather have just gone to bed, they somehow found the energy to make their romantic night worth it. Perhaps they were re-energized by their newlywed "our love can conquer anything" mindset, the way so many young couples are, or maybe it was the post-race high that gave them a second wind.

Olli stroked Hannah's hair as she rested her head on his shoulder. She was sleepy, but not tired enough to fall asleep yet.

"Hannah?" Olli asked quietly, seeing if she was still awake.

"Yes?"

"Can I ask you a question?"

"Sure."

"I told you why I liked my favorite driver, mind if I ask why Vettel is yours?"

Hannah laughed tiredly, almost embarrassed. "I guess I can tell you. It's kind of embarrassing, but I thought he was cute."

"What?" Olli asked, raising his eyebrow in amusement.

"It was a long time ago, don't worry! He had just started with Toro Rosso back in 2007 when I started watching F1, and he had a rough start because he began driving halfway through the season. I felt bad for him, but he looked so promising and he never gave up! Even after he had to retire the first four races due to accidents, and then placed pretty badly in the next few, he didn't give up hope. And then in the Italian grand prix (and I'll never forget this), he finally won his first race. He was, and still is, the youngest driver to win a grand prix. I don't know why, but I felt proud of him somehow? But then he signed with Red Bull and won four consecutive World Championship titles, and became pretty famous. And that's my story," Hannah looked up at Olli with a crooked smile.

"So what you're saying, is that you liked him before he was cool," Olli teased.

"I-yeah, technically, but I only noticed him because he was cute. I didn't know anything about F1 or cars or racing, so that was the one thing that stood out to me."

"Right..."

"I was 17! He was 19, and a racing driver, and that seemed really cool!"

"Oh, so you have a thing for 19 year olds, I see," Olli teased, and Hannah couldn't help but laugh.

"I guess I do. Good night Olli, we're going to Bruges tomorrow!!" She squeezed him tightly before burrowing into his embrace, falling asleep quickly.

They started a little late the next morning (still tired from the previous night's activities) and got to Bruges by noon. The first thing Hannah thought was 'this would be a great place to film.' But instead of mentally planning the perfect romantic comedy in her head, she decided to live it with Olli. First, they took a tour in a horse drawn carriage, which was a little bumpy because of the cobblestones. Next they took a private boat ride on the canals, and caught a glimpse of the famed Bruges dog sitting in his window on a pillow, as always.

After the boat ride, Hannah and Olli walked hand in hand down some narrow streets taking in the local architecture. It was a beautiful sunny day, and there were several women working outside.

"What are you making?" Hannah asked one of them.

"Lace. Bruges is known for its lace," the woman replied. "This is a veil."

'Something I didn't wear to my wedding,' Hannah thought, but smiled to the lady and watched her weaving the intricate patterns in the delicate lace.

"And what about this one?" Olli asked, pointing to a finished piece displayed near the women.

"That is for a baby's baptism." She smiled at him and carried on with her work.

'Something else I don't need...' Hannah thought, but Olli kept looking at it. She started to walk away, and after a second he followed her.

"Why were you looking at that so much?" She asked once they'd walked further away.

"It's so tiny. Is that really for human babies?"

"Yes, babies are small. Don't you remember holding Finn? He fit in one arm."

"Would he need something like that?"

"I'm not sure Beth is having him baptized." Hannah sighed. She had no idea what was going on with Beth and Finn, and wasn't going to ruin her honeymoon thinking about it. "Come on, husband, it's getting late. We have to leave soon."

"Are we actually going to Paris this time?"

Hannah laughed, "Yes. And we're going to see the Eiffel tower, and the Louvre, and that really cool cemetery, and-"

"We're going to a cemetery on our honeymoon?" Olli eyed her skeptically.

"Yes, but it's a very famous cemetery. Jim Morrison is buried there."

"Who?"

"He was in the Doors....Oh my God you're so young." Hannah sighed, realizing her husband was too young to know who the Doors were. Not that Hannah had been alive when they had been around, either. But it was another reminder that Olli was, in fact, really young- no matter how old he acted.
