Chapter 43

Hannah's chat with Brandon stayed in her mind on the flight back to Pittsburgh. Was planning a wedding really all that was keeping her from marrying Olli? Or was it something else? Or, someone, rather....

As the plane touched down and he shook her awake, Hannah looked over her fiancé. That was it, that really was all that stood between her and Olli getting married: a stupid wedding.

She smiled and sat up, fixing her hair a little. She wanted to tell him then, but she waited until they got off the plane and got their luggage. She wasn't even sure how to tell him, but when they got home and brought their suitcases in, she was pretty tired and it kind of just slipped out.

"Remember what I said about getting married on your birthday? That's actually not a bad idea."

"What?" Olli stared at her in shock. "I thought you were joking."

"It would be so much easier! Just get it over with, and if we feel like it, we can have a real wedding later." Hannah shrugged, as casually as if she were mentioning trying out a new restaurant for dinner, instead of eloping to Finland.

"Hannah, it would take more than the ten days we have to plan that. We would have to get a marriage license, and you would need documents proving you aren't already married and other things, since you're marrying in a foreign country; it would take a while."

"Sounds like you've been looking into this."

"Maybe." Olli's face reddened a bit. "You mentioned it before falling asleep the other night, and I thought it wasn't actually a bad idea."

"So you agree with me!" Hannah smiled.

"It would definitely make this a lot easier. However, I don't know if we'd have enough time."

"Doing things in a short amount of time happens to be my specialty," she winked. "That's something I learned in film school. When you're on a time limit, you learn to work around things."

Olli smiled down at her, and she shrugged. "We can try. And if it doesn't work, we can always do it another time!"

Olli looked Hannah over seriously for a minute before laughing. "Okay, where do we start?"

A few cups of coffee later, the ball was rolling toward their last minute Finnish wedding. Hannah just needed to wait for a few documents proving her citizenship, marital status, and stuff like that, which should only take a few days. It helped that one of Hannah's dad's golf buddies worked in Washington and had a few connections.

However, if Hannah was going to drop her dad's name to speed up the process, that meant she needed to tell her parents. It was not something she wanted to do, and waited until after lunch the next day before calling her mom. She was just going to send a text, but it seemed a little insensitive. Even Hannah wasn't that cold.

After screaming for a full minute, and then crying a few more, Lucy calmed down enough to talk. "Oh, Hannah why do you have to do it like this? Why can't you just have a wedding like normal people?"

"Because, I'm not 'normal,' I guess," Hannah mumbled.

"It's such short notice! I don't think I can make it. We're still watching the baby, since your sister is on her spiritual vacation with that boyfriend of hers," Lucy couldn't hide the tone of annoyance in her voice. Beth was a sore spot for everyone in her family right now, and Hannah wouldn't be surprised if her parents cut her off soon. If it wasn't for the baby (whom they never seemed to mention by name) Beth would have been on her own months ago.

"It's okay if you can't make it. I really won't be upset," Hannah tried not to sound too happy.

"Maybe your father can come...I don't know. He's so busy, you know," Lucy responded naively.

"Yes, mom." Hannah's dad had always been 'busy.'

"However, you might be able to do a favor for me. Since you're going to be in Finland anyway. Now that we know the baby's father is that Finnish guy, we need to get his signature on the birth certificate. So it's official," Lucy explained, and Hannah could almost see her pouting. Lucy hated that her daughter had a bastard son with some Finnish hockey player, but compared to Beth's boyfriend Deryck, Kasperi looked like royalty.

"We're leaving in two days, so you can overnight it to me," Hannah reluctantly agreed. She didn't want to see Kasperi. She hadn't spoken to him since they got the results of the paternity test, and wasn't sure she wanted to see him right before she got married.

The next two days of waiting were hell. They hoped all the documents they needed would arrive by the time they had to leave. Hannah watched the mailbox anxiously, although she half expected the documents to arrive in an official envelope, delivered by a courier, considering the money they had to pay to expedite the process.

Surprisingly, Hannah had a hard time packing her suitcase. She wasn't exactly sure what to wear to get married. She never dreamed of being the girl who walked down the aisle in a white dress, honestly, she didn't think she'd get married at all, so she hadn't given any thought to it. Since it wasn't going to be a formal event, she wasn't sure what to wear.

"Hey Olli?" She left the walk-in closet holding up a couple of dresses. "What are we going to wear?"

He looked them over thoughtfully. A slight smile twitched on his mouth, and he almost laughed. His future bride was asking him what to wear to their wedding?

"I don't know...I guess it doesn't need to be formal, does it?" He shrugged. "Surprise me."

Hannah looked at the dresses in her hands before throwing them back in the closet and grabbing something completely different. If she was going to get married, she was at least going to be comfortable doing it. Hannah packed a few more things she might need before heading out to check the mail again.

"OLLI!!!!" she screamed and ran back into the house. "OLLI IT'S HERE!!!!" She jumped up and down waving the documents that proved she was in fact an unmarried US citizen, and allowing her to get married out of the country.

"That's fantastic!" He said and took them from her to look them over. "What's this?"

She stopped jumping, and her smile diminished a little. "Oh, that's, um, my nephew's birth certificate. I need Kasperi to sign it."

Olli was quiet as he looked it over. Kasperi Finn Eldridge. He still laughed at the name Beth had chosen for her son. Kasperi probably hated it. "So, is he going to be there? Or are we making a trip up to Kuopio to see him?"

Hannah shrugged. "I don't know; I never really thought of inviting a guy that I found masturbating to pictures of me to my own wedding, but if you want to." She smiled crookedly up at Olli and he couldn't help but smile back. Nothing could make him angry right now, and everything was made a little brighter when Hannah was around. Knowing that within a week they would be married made him feel on top of the world.

"I have a feeling he's over that, although his girlfriend did just break up with him."

"Uh oh, I'd better look out. He might try to kiss me again," Hannah teased.

"I don't know," Olli added on a more serious note, returning to Hannah's question. "He is part of your family now; it might be nice for you to have at least one person you're kind of related to at your wedding."

"Yeah, but Kasperi?" Hannah made a face, but Olli remained serious. "Okay. I'll think about it. I suppose he wasn't too bad the week he was here. I was actually starting to get used to having him around. He's quite handy, I never would have thought that, but he changed the oil in my car. Who would have known he could do that?"

Olli wondered if Kasperi had just googled 'how to change oil in an antique mini' but he didn't say anything. He knew Kasperi had made the team this year, and that meant they would probably be seeing him a lot. Olli wanted Kasperi and Hannah to be on good terms, so they didn't have a repeat of last year's disaster. Although, he found it unlikely that Kasperi could accidentally knock up Hannah's sister again.

Hannah had a stack of screenplays to read on the plane. Olli wondered if she would ever find one 'good enough.' He was sure they were all excellent, but she had high standards after directing her own screenplay. She had read dozens of them over the summer, waiting to hear from the production office when her own movie was going to be released. The tentative release date was this winter, but Hannah was still anxious. She knew everything would change once it came out, once she got recognition.

Olli fell into a deep sleep on the flight, only waking up to stop in Iceland, something he was used to on their transoceanic flights. He was hoping not to change his sleeping schedule too much, but he fell asleep as soon as they took off for Finland again, and eventually, so did Hannah. When they landed it was morning in Finland, and they went straight to city hall to apply to get married. Hannah presented all of the documents she had received the day before and filled out some more paperwork.

The clerk looked them over as the couple watched anxiously, hoping they hadn't missed anything that would delay them any further. The clerk looked up at them with a doubtful expression and Hannah and Olli's heart's fell.

"You want to get married this week?"

"Yes, if it's possible," Olli answered, and the clerk shook his head.

"It will be close, but I think we can make it. Is there any reason you're doing this on such short notice? Such as an ill family member, or-"

"Because we love each other, isn't that a good enough reason?" Hannah replied, thinking the clerk was suggesting Hannah had pushed Olli into getting married.

Shocked by her bluntness, the clerk smiled politely. "Okay. And what name will you be taking after?"

Olli and Hannah exchanged glances. "We didn't really talk about this," she whispered to him. "I don't really care."

"I don't think we'll be changing our names right now," Olli replied to the clerk.

"Okay. Then I will just need your signature's here, and here," the clerk handed the papers back to them to sign. Hannah took a deep breath, and with unshaken confidence, signed the marriage license.

Happily, the couple left city hall feeling exhilarated. This was really happening. They were (hopefully) going to get married at the end of the week, on Olli's birthday.
