Chapter 37

Life was pretty good for Hannah right now. Things had finally fallen into place with the new house, and she and Olli signed the final papers last week. The previous owners had left the house completely spotless, but there were a few things Hannah wanted to change. As she and Olli set about repainting the living room, she decided maybe they should repaint a few more rooms. Like the bedrooms.

"It's easier to repaint now, while we don't have any furniture yet," Hannah commented, looking around their empty living room. "Besides, these colors don't really go with the house's architecture."

Olli stared at her blankly, having no idea what she was talking about, and shook his head in confusion.

"Just because it's a Georgian house, doesn't mean it has to have boring colors. We could put red in the kitchen, or pink in the bathrooms!"

This time Olli shook his head in disagreement. "No, no pink bathrooms. And I think the kitchen looks fine in white." He sighed; he just wanted to move in, no matter what color the walls were. Hannah was usually not very difficult about things, just going with however they already were; that's what he liked about her. But for her first house, Hannah wanted to make sure it was perfect.

"Okay, so maybe not the kitchen, but what about our bedroom? That's the most important one! You must have some ideas on what color you want it to be?" She looked up at him hopefully, offering several color swatches for him to look through. "I'm thinking something in the blue or green tones, or maybe white with accent trim."

Accent trim. That was another one of those things Hannah had mentioned that Olli either didn't know what it was, or didn't care about. Accent trim, tile backsplash, white or off-white grout, eggshell paint, crown molding..... As much as he wanted to be invested in the appearance of this house, he really didn't care. The few things he did care about (like the pink bathroom) he made sure to tell Hannah about, but the rest was really up to her.

"Hannah..." Olli started tiredly, and she knew what he was going to say.

"No, this is important. It's our bedroom; the room we have to sleep in for the rest of our lives!"

He looked down at her sympathetically, and put his arm around her shoulder. "I like that you're planning ahead, but I think we shouldn't make this our dream house just yet. My contract is up at the end of next season, which makes me a restricted free agent right now. If the Pens decide to trade me-"

"They're not going to trade you!" Hannah laughed and hit him, maybe a little harder than she should have. "You are fantastic, Rutherford loves you, everyone loves you; trust me, we're staying in Pittsburgh."

Olli wished he could be as sure as Hannah, but he knew unexpected trades happened all the time. He would love to settle down in this house and stay with the Penguins the rest of his career, but things changed so quickly, and often they were out of your hands.

"I guess blue is nice, for the bedroom," Olli finally said, and Hannah's eyes lit up.

"I thought so too!" She started going over different shades of blue, and eventually Olli convinced himself to forget about trades, and just focus on being happy, now, with Hannah.

By the end of the week, Hannah hadn't made much progress on the house, but she had finally heard from the producers on the status of 'Painted Flowers.' She was splattering paint on Olli, starting yet another paint war, when her phone rang. They said they might be done in June, and now that it was June 25th she was getting anxious. She ran outside to take the call and Olli continued painting. He'd wondered if this frantic house painting frenzy had been part of her way of dealing with this-not hearing from the producers.

When she finally came inside he immediately knew the call had gone well. "I have to go to LA," she said and rushed past him. "They want to meet tomorrow."

Tomorrow? Olli put the paint roller down and Hannah appeared in the doorway. "Want to come?"

"I guess I could come, how long are you going to be out there?"

Hannah shrugged, "Not more than a few days, I don't think. But it could be fun! I haven't been to LA in a while!"

Olli had recently, and he didn't really want to think about it, but he'd only ever been there for hockey. Before he had time to reply, Hannah snatched the paint roller out of his hands and pulled him toward the door.

"Shouldn't we put the paint away?" He asked as he climbed into her tiny little car, wishing they had taken his truck.

"Nah it's fine," Hannah replied. "We have a plane to catch!"
