Chapter 36

With nothing to film or edit, Hannah was starting to go crazy in her boredom. She started going to every home game, and even sitting with the other WAGs. She'd never considered herself one of them, but she was, in fact, Olli Maatta's fiancee. They always asked about the wedding plans, and Hannah always shrugged it off saying things were going okay, but really they hadn't even picked a date. It was supposed to be this summer, but since they never picked a date or a place to have it, and summer was fast approaching, that opportunity was slipping away.

"Maybe we should just wait until next summer," Hannah said to Olli after getting yet another question about the date. "Things are going to be a little crazy this summer with Beth having a baby and stuff. And it's almost May, I think we would have needed to pick a date by now and book a venue, and all that stuff."

Olli noticed she used the word 'stuff' twice. It was something Hannah did when she wasn't quite saying everything, avoiding something she didn't want to put into words, and saying 'stuff' and 'things' instead. What exactly she wasn't saying he wasn't sure of, but it was making him feel a little uneasy. "I don't know why we need to have a big wedding. Why can't it just be us, our families, and some friends?"

"I don't want a big wedding either, I told you this. But we still need to have it somewhere. I was thinking we could have an outdoor wedding, since I'm not really into the whole church thing, and there's the perfect spot close to where I grew up. I think I might have showed it to you when we visited Oregon last summer-"

"Wait, we're getting married in Oregon? I was pretty sure we had decided on going back to Finland for the wedding...."

"Honestly, I don't care, but my mom wants it to be in Oregon. Something about so they don't have to travel far with the baby, which I totally get. Traveling with a newborn baby is probably really hard."

"Oh, so we are getting married this summer?" Olli was getting frustrated. He was usually so calm, but this, added to the stress of the playoffs, was starting to get on his nerves. And then there was whatever was going on between Hannah and Kasperi. Ever since he found that snapchat, he started watching her a little more closely. He'd never had a reason to suspect anything of Hannah, but now she was jumpy, putting her phone away suddenly, and closing her laptop when he was around. He kept trying to tell himself it was nothing, and he was just being paranoid, but he was scared; he didn't want to lose her.

"Whatever you want," he shrugged and stood up. "I have to get to practice."

Hannah watched the door click behind him, and the quietness of the apartment settled in around her. She stared at the mark above the door where she'd thrown a bottle at him nearly a year ago, because she thought he was cheating. Hannah laughed; it had been so stupid of her to think that, although she wouldn't blame Olli for cheating on her.

"I can't believe I turn 25 next week," Hannah mused as she poured herself a glass of wine. "I'm practically middle aged." She went back to the couch and opened her laptop.

Hannah spent her days waiting. Waiting for a call from the studio about her film, waiting for another producer to take interest in her, waiting for the next game, waiting for the season to be over, waiting to get married.

That last one was still a shock to her. Hannah Eldridge was getting married. The girl who couldn't keep a boyfriend in high school because she 'couldn't commit to one guy' was settling down. Before Olli she'd had boyfriends, but they were more like friends, who were boys, and in Hannah's mind, 'friends with benefits' was the equivalent of 'friends,' at least where her male friends were concerned. As for female friends....Hannah didn't get along with girls that well. She had tried coming up with at least one girl she wasn't related to to be a bridesmaid, but she couldn't think of anyone she actually liked, or tolerated. This was, unfortunately, one of the reason's she'd started hanging out with the WAGs. Olli was certain to have several groomsmen, so Hannah needed an equal number of bridesmaids.

Bridesmaids. Dresses. Bouquets. These were not things Hannah was prepared to think about. She didn't dream of falling in love and getting married, like many girls did, but it was happening. She was in love, and pretty soon, she would be walking down the aisle in white. Well, maybe not white.

Her eyes flicked back to her computer screen. She couldn't believe she was doing this, but Hannah was looking at houses in the suburb of Sewickley. In her eyes, the suburbs were a place hopes and dreams went to die. But if Hannah and Olli were going to settle down in Pittsburgh, hopefully permanently, they would need a place to live, and possibly raise a family.

Hannah still shuddered at the thought of having kids, even if it was planned, and with someone she loved. After her accidental pregnancy with Jason, her opinion on that entire subject got skewed. But maybe someone like Olli could straighten that opinion out, and if he wanted kids, she would do it for him.

Having kids was the last thing on Olli's mind right now. The Penguins were playing strongly in the Playoffs, but it was just the first round, and it looked like they would make far this year.

But first, there was Hannah's birthday. Olli knew she was freaking out about turning 25, and being five years older than him. Last year, she threw a bottle of him and thought he was cheating. Olli wanted to make sure she had a better birthday this year.

He took her out to dinner, and bought her a beautiful necklace. It was a warm spring night, and they took a walk through the park after dinner, ending up at the place they first got ice cream.

"We haven't been here in a while," Hannah remarked as they waited for their ice cream.

"That's because it was winter, and you were in Toronto." Olli didn't mean to sound so negative, but the stress was getting to him.

"I've missed getting ice cream with you," Hannah smiled, ignoring Olli's tone. She knew he was under stress from the playoffs, but she didn't realize how much she was adding to it.

Olli smiled, but didn't say anything. He didn't want to fight with her, not here, and not on her birthday. He didn't even know exactly what he would be fighting with her about, since all he had were suspicions.

Hannah glanced at her phone, keeping it hidden in her purse, and closed whatever message she had received.

"Talking to Kasperi about our ice cream?" Olli said, before he could stop himself.

"What?" Hannah looked up at him, eyebrows slanted in annoyance. "Why would I tell him we're getting ice cream on my birthday? I haven't talked to him in almost a month."

"I was just kidding, it-" Olli stammered. He had forgotten how quickly Hannah could get mad, and how fast that anger turned into the need to prove herself right.

She slowly closed her eyes and opened them in that way she always did before she told someone off, almost like she was rolling her eyes. And for the first time, it was directed at Olli.

She reached into her bag and pulled out her phone. "Look at it."

"No, I didn't mean anything, I was-"

Hannah smiled, but her eyes still looked mad. "Look at it." She opened the last message she'd received and held it up to Olli's face.

It was a picture, but not of a shirtless Kasperi, like he thought it would be. It was a house.

"Do you like it?" Hannah asked, this time any sign of annoyance was gone from her face, and she looked genuinely happy.

"What?" Olli didn't know what to think. It was a nice house, but why? It had a for-sale sign out front.

"It's close to where Geno lives, I think," Hannah pulled her phone back and checked the address again. "Want to see it?"

"The house?" Olli still didn't know what was going on.

"Yeah! Come on," she pulled him out of the ice cream shop and into the car, not bothering to explain anything more about the house. She gave him directions, and talked about the house some more as they drove. It was recently restored, had all new appliances, a three car garage, three and half bathrooms, four bedrooms...

"Four bedrooms?" Olli asked, the first thing he'd said since they got in the car. He slowly figured out what this house was; why would Hannah care about it unless she was planning on buying it?

"Yeah, is that not enough?" Hannah asked skeptically, slightly worried that Olli planned on having eight kids.

"No, four is enough, that's perfect." Olli's mind was racing with ideas, possibilities, and thoughts of the future. Olli hadn't considered buying a house until he had a contract extension, ensuring he would stay in Pittsburgh for a while. But he had a feeling the Penguins would want to keep him for a few more years, so if Hannah wanted to buy a house, he couldn't argue with her.

"And here it is, on the right," Hannah said as they pulled up to a house. It was dark, but it still looked nice. "I've been researching the right house for weeks, and I finally found this one. It has everything I've ever wanted in a house; big kitchen, open spaces, an office, plenty of natural light, and a walk in basement that could easily be transformed into a gym, if you wanted."

Olli was still speechless. The house was perfect, and he hadn't even seen the inside. He felt so guilty for being angry with Hannah, and he wanted to apologize, but he couldn't find any words.

"Come on, let's get out and look around," Hannah slipped out of the car before he could stop her.

"Are you sure it's okay?" Olli asked, but Hannah was already halfway up the driveway.

"It's practically ours, Olli," Hannah yelled back to him and skipped around the back of the house. When Olli caught up to her, she was sitting on a bench in the back garden looking up at the house, lit only by the moon. Olli joined her and they held hands, looking up at the house that would soon be theirs.

"I'm sorry I doubted you, I should never have thought that there was anything going on between you and Kasperi, or anyone else."

"It's okay," Hannah smiled up at him. "At least you didn't throw a wine bottle at me."

Olli laughed and kissed Hannah on the cheek. "I should have been terrified of you after that, yet somehow, it only made me like you more."

"Can I ask you something?" Hannah said after a moment, and Olli nodded. "So, if four bedrooms is enough..." Hannah couldn't even finish her question, but Olli knew what she meant.

"I haven't thought about it too much, but I think four is enough. Since one is going to be ours, and we'll probably have a guest bedroom, that should be fine. Unless we accidentally have triplets or something," Olli added with a laugh. Hannah was still very tense when it came to talking about having children, but Olli's confident yet carefree nature toward the subject shattered a few of the walls Hannah had mentally built around that part of her mind. She admired the way that he could joke about having triplets; that wasn't something most 20 year old guys could do. But then again, Olli is not like most guys his age.

"So four is enough," Hannah repeated, and stared up at what was soon to be their home.
