Chapter 3

The Penguin's first regular season game resulted in a shutout win against the New Jersey Devils. Hannah had been asked to dress a little nicer for the post-game interviews, maybe wear a skirt and heels at least, because she needed to look professional. So, Hannah reluctantly went to the mall and bought a pair of nice looking heels and a few outfits that were boring as hell, in her opinion, but that's what they wanted: boring professional.

She had tried to practice walking in her new heels, to break them in a bit, but it didn't help.

Hannah's feet were starting to hurt by the end of the second period and by the time the game ended it was almost unbearable. She hobbled over to Fleury and fixed his hair a bit before making her way over to Sid.

"Great game, that's cool that you got a goal," she said and winced as she shifted her weight back to her left foot.

"Are you okay?" He asked as she started to dry off his hair.

"Yeah, it's just these shoes, I'm pretty sure my feet are broken."

"You're finally wearing high heels, now you're not so short!" Brandon teased.

"I think I'm going to sit down," she said, ignoring him. She tried to sit next to Sid but couldn't reach his hair, so she carefully kneeled (because she was in a skirt) in between Sid and Brandon.

By now the media scrum had finished with Flower (Fleruy) and were setting up in front of Sid, waiting for her to move.

"Hannah," her boss, Mike, said impatiently, "Hannah we're ready, if you'd like to move."

"One second," she replied and made some final adjustments to his messy hair. As she started to get up, however, she fell backwards because she was not used to wearing high heels. She fell onto a surprised Brandon Sutter, who caught her just as the cameras started filming Sid.

Sid, being super professional, did not even blink as he was bombarded with questions, but Hannah and Brandon were trying to be quiet and stop laughing. After they finally composed themselves and Sid's interview was over, Hannah realized maybe she should get off of his lap.

"I'm sorry," she said getting up and readjusting her pencil skirt and jacket. She took her shoes off, deciding it was safer without them.

"No problem; you want to come out with us after this? The guys are going out for drinks or something if you want to join us," he asked as she helped take down the cameras in front of Sid.

"That would be really fun; I haven't been out in a while. However, I um," she paused, "I might need a ride. I usually ride my bike to work because I don't live far from here."

"That's fine, I can pick you up, is 10 okay?"

"Yeah, I'll see you then," Hannah gave him her address and left to put the rest of the camera equipment away.

However, she got distracted by a familiar spiky haired, blue eyed rookie.

"Hey, how was your first NHL game?" She asked him and as he was trying to quietly leave unnoticed.

"It was fine," Olli replied with a smile that said it was much better than 'fine.'

"Are you coming out with us tonight?"

"No, I don't think I can," he replied with a laugh.

"Why not? It's your first game, you should celebrate."

"I'm only 19, I can't drink."

Hannah laughed at the unfortunate situation, and apologized. "So you're not doing anything?"

"No, I don't think so. I'll probably just go home and go to bed," he replied, looking at a bit embarrassed.

"No you can't do that, it's your first game, you have to do something fun!" She was going to suggest sneaking him into the bar or wherever they were going, but there's no way he could pass for 21, not with that face. Maybe a fake mustache would help? Hannah smiled at the thought of him in a fake mustache.

"I'll do something fun with you." Hannah wouldn't normally go out of her way to make someone feel better, but there was something about the thought of him going home, alone, and going to bed after his first NHL game while the rest of his teammates when out, that made her change her mind.

It's not that she felt bad for him really, she just thought he deserved more than that.

"No, it's okay, I'll be fine," he tried to turn her down, but he looked like he really didn't want to be alone.

"No, we're doing something. I already told Brandon I'd go out with the guys, so I'll stay for a few drinks and then meet you somewhere? We'll have fun, it'll be an adventure. We could get ice cream!" Hannah smile with such exuberance Olli had to agree.

"Okay, I will text you, and you can pick me up, and we'll get ice cream," she said adding his number to her phone. "Okay?"

He smiled and they parted ways.

Hannah went home and changed into something that would be appropriate for both going to the bar with the guys and getting ice cream with Olli. She decided to keep it modest and not wear anything too exciting because these were her co-workers after all. She was just finishing tucking her hair under a hat when Brandon arrived.

As they drove to the bar she told him about taking Olli out for ice cream.

"Oh that's right, he can't drink! That's too bad," he said, and laughed. "Maybe some of the other guys will want to go too, I know a few of them don't really drink much."

"Are you coming?"

"Yeah, I love ice cream!" he replied as they walked to the bar.

She tried to find a few guys to come with them, but nobody wanted too. Most of them said they were on a diet and couldn't eat ice cream, which makes sense. However, the few guys she talked to bought her a drink, each of them, and she had to give a couple of them away because at 5'2" and almost 110 lbs even, it doesn't take much to make her drunk.

Hannah was not drunk, but she was starting to get tipsy. When she went to find Brandon to leave, he said that he was 'too drunk to get ice cream.' Hannah didn't think there was such a stage of drunkenness that would make getting ice cream not fun, but she didn't bother him about it.

It wasn't until she was sitting in the front seat of Olli's car that she realized why Brandon had backed out at the last minute.

He had wanted Olli and her to be alone together.

Whatever, they were going to have fun regardless.

They went to her favorite ice cream shop (Hannah went their frequently) and the guy at the counter recognized her as a regular.

"Do you want your usual?" He asked, and she was a little embarrassed that she had a 'usual' at an ice cream shop, but she brushed it off. She didn't care if Olli knew she was addicted to ice cream.

"No, I think I'll try something new today. How about, mocha fudge swirl in a sugar cone, with chocolate sprinkles."

While he was getting her cone, she helped Olli pick out something. He said his favorite flavor was vanilla, but Hannah said he needed to try something more exciting. He didn't like chocolate, so she insisted he try the cotton candy ice cream.

"Cotton candy?" he asked her with a confused look.

"Do they not have that in Finland? It's like fluffy candy stuff, it's usually pink or blue, it's mostly just sugar."

He shrugged, "I'll try it."

They ate their ice cream outside on a bench. As the alcohol wore off, Hannah realized she was actually having fun with him. They talked about anything but hockey, including favorite colors, and lamented the high drinking age in America. In Finland it's 18, and in Ontario, where he lived last year, it was 19, but he was 18 when he lived there.

"So you've always been a year off, that's too bad. And now you have to wait two more years to drink here," Hannah teased him.

"Yeah, it's not too bad though, that's not really one of my top priorities right now. Besides, I go back to Finland in the summer," he added.

"Yeah, I don't actually feel bad for you," she laughed. "It's not like you don't know a bunch of guys over 21 who would buy you alcohol if you asked."

"No, I could never ask them to do that," he replied.

"Hey, they were all 19 at some point, I'm sure they'd help you out."

"I saw you fall earlier, are you okay?" He asked with concern.

She thought it was cute, and smiled. "Yeah, it was actually kind of funny. I fell on Brandon right as Sid started taking questions. I'll have to look over the footage from his interview, but I think I was out of the shot. I definitely won't be wearing high heels for a while, or at least until I'm more used to them."

Hannah shivered, and her teeth were starting to chatter.

"Are you cold?" he asked and started to take his jacket off.

"Yeah, eating ice cream outside on an October night was not a good idea," she replied and gladly accepted his jacket, which was huge on her.

"Maybe I should take you home, it's almost midnight," he said checking his phone as the ice cream shop took in its open sign.

Hannah agreed; she hadn't noticed how late it was, and he led her back to his car.

She gave him directions back to her place, and reluctantly gave him his jacket back before leaving.

"I had fun tonight, thanks," he said as she got out of the car.

"Yeah, me too, maybe we can get ice cream again sometime," Hannah said. "Or maybe something a little warmer than ice cream." She laughed, and headed inside.

"I know why you ditched us last night," Hannah said with a scowl to Brandon the next day before practice.

"What are you talking about, I said I was drunk," he looked down at her with a smirk.

"You were not drunk, you wanted Olli and I to be alone together," she hissed, quiet enough not to be heard by his teammates.

"Okay, maybe, but I didn't do it for you."

"What?" Hannah was surprised and confused by his comment.

"I've seen the way he looks at you; you must have noticed by now," Brandon replied, and Hannah looked across the room at Olli. He looked up and saw her so she waved, and he waved back with a smile.

"I don't know what you're talking about," Hannah said as she turned back to Brandon, not wanting to believe him.

"He definitely has a crush on you," Brandon said with a smile, and she was starting to think he was right, but couldn't admit it.

"Why? I'm like an old woman compared to him."

Brandon laughed, "You're not old; you're like 21 or something."

"I'm 23 and a half, thank you," she replied with sass, and Brandon laughed at her again.

"Whatever, you know I'm right," he said as he put his helmet on and left for the ice.

She didn't want to think he was right. It was probably just a crush and she tried to brush it off.
After all, he was four years younger than her, he was younger than her little sister, who was 20.
Although, they had gone on what could have been interpreted as a date.
She hoped he didn't take it the wrong way.

(Or did she?)
