Chapter 25

Olli flew back to Pittsburgh to start training camp, while Hannah flew to Los Angeles for a few days to meet with a producer. She visited some old friends from college and was disappointed Olli couldn't have come with her to meet them. As much as she'd loved her time at uni in LA, she had too many bad memories. And one of them was waiting for her at the producer's office she was going to visit. He was the receptionist.

"She's in a meeting, but you can wait here, with me, until it's over," Jason explained, sipping a very Starbucks looking cup of coffee.

"Jason. What the heck," was all Hannah could manage to say; her head was practically swimming she was so mad.

"What? I'm a receptionist, so?" He peered down at her through his non-prescription glasses. "Come on, we can't all date NHL hockey players, how else was I supposed to make money?"

He was teasing her, but Hannah didn't find it very funny. She found it annoying. And a little creepy.

"How do you know that? Who I'm dating, and what I'm doing, what are you even doing here?" She asked, her heart pounding fast, getting angrier with every beat.

"I live in LA, what do you mean?"

"I mean HERE! In the office of the producer who said she liked my script! Why are YOU here?" She was so mad she wasn't making sense any more.

"You really think she would have said she liked it if I hadn't asked her to? Let me guess, she was the only one who actually replied?" He didn't wait for a response before continuing. "And why do you think you're in her office right now?"

"Oh my God, please tell me you didn't do this 'as a favor' because you 'thought you owed me something' or some shit. Please tell me that is not what's happening here," she rested her head in her hands for a second, trying to calm down.

"Wait, you think I should owe you something? No, it's definitely the other way around. You robbed me of a child," he looked her dead in the eye, and the door to the producer's office opened. "Miss Simmonds will see you now."

Hannah took a deep breath before walking into the office, trying to clear everything out of her head.

The meeting could have gone better, it definitely could have been much better, yet it wasn't a complete disaster. Miss Simmonds said she'd 'think about it,' but Hannah knew what that really meant. She flew back to Pittsburgh feeling horrible about everything that had happened in LA, and she just wanted to go home and cuddle up next to Olli.

However, when she got to her apartment, she found Olli and someone else, hanging out in her kitchen, drinking her alcohol.

"Um, hi," she said and eyed the other guy.

"I'm Kasperi, the Pen's draft pick. You can call me Kappy," he smiled and held out his hand. She really didn't want to touch him, but it would be rude not to shake his hand, so she did.

"He's just visiting, he needed a place to stay for a while, so I thought he could stay with us," Olli explained.

"Stay with us?" Hannah looked back at him, still a little pissed off about what happened in LA, and now this?

"And, I forgot to sign the lease for my apartment and it was given to someone else, so I thought it would be easier if maybe I just moved in with you?" Olli smiled hopefully, yet apologetically.

"You want to move in together?" She asked.

"Wait, you guys didn't talk about this beforehand?" Kasperi asked and smiled that stupid smile Hannah already hated, and she'd just met him. "Awe shit bro," he watched amusedly and took another drink.

"I'm sorry, I know I should have asked you, and not just moved in without your permission, but I can leave if you want-" Hannah cut Olli off with a kiss.

"No, don't leave, this is fine. I just need to talk to you, later. Alone," she added, glancing at Kasperi.

That night she told him about meeting the producer, and that the producer's receptionist was an ex-boyfriend, but he was a little more than that.

"We only dated for a few months my senior year in college, but, when I was 21, almost 22 (so not much older than you are now) I , um, discovered I was pregnant," she paused, and Olli's mind flashed back to what she'd told him in Sochi.

"Wait, you've had a baby?" He looked shocked and a thousand thoughts raced through his head.

"No, we, uh, didn't go through with it," she tried to word the sentence tactfully. It wasn't something she liked to talk about.

Olli sat for a minute and thought. "He seems like a jerk, I'm glad you didn't keep it." There were a hundred other reasons Olli could think of (like the fact that he could have been a step dad), but he wasn't going to say them out loud. He could see this was bothering Hannah a lot, and he didn't want to make her feel worse.

"Me too," Hannah smiled weakly. "But you're not mad...or upset about it? Because this is kind of an issue, or at least I thought it was."

"No, why would I be mad?" Olli laughed and pulled her in for a hug, resting his chin on her head. "You did what you had to, and if I were you I would have done the same thing."

"I was young and stupid and scared, and I didn't like Jason that much, so I didn't even think about keeping it. But now that I'm older...I know this is hard, but I think we should talk about what we would do if, um, something like that happened," she pulled away enough to look up at him. She expected him to look terrified, since that's how she felt, or even mad, but he was calm.

"We would keep it," he replied without hesitating.

"That was fast, you don't want to think about this for a while?" She tilted her head and looked up at him questioningly.

"I've had a lot of time to think. After what you told me in Sochi, I realized the whole idea of getting someone pregnant wasn't really as scary as I thought it was, as long as it was you." Hannah noticed for the first how much older he looked, and now he even sounded older. Despite herself, she was actually a little emotional so she buried her face in his chest and wrapped her arms around him tightly. As much as she wanted to agree with him, the thought of being pregnant still terrified her, and she wasn't sure she'd ever be ready for that.

Hannah was excited to get back to work after not seeing the team all summer. However, there was one new Penguin she was starting to like less and less.

"Kasper, can you smile?" Hannah asked and peaked from behind the camera. "You look terrified, or maybe like you're going to be sick. Just loosen up, smile or something, like you're taking another shirtless selfie with my boyfriend."

"Speaking of your boyfriend, I heard you guys had an interesting visit with your parents." He smiled that cocky grin that Hannah hated, but all the girls seemed to like. He'd been staying in their apartment a few weeks now, and had brought home a parade of different girls each night.

"Can you just shut up and smile?" Hannah snapped. He was the last one to have his picture taken on media day so Hannah was already running thin on patience, and now Kasperi was getting on her nerves. She'd had fun messing with Brandon and trying to make him laugh while he was getting his picture taken, and of course she teased Olli about his new bobble head, but now she was at the end of her rope.

As Olli drove the three of them home, Kasperi sat in the back talking about some girl he'd hooked up with. When he started to get into details, Hannah turned around and glared at him. "Can you two please talk in Finnish so I don't have to hear it? I really don't want to know what kind of tattoo she had on her butt."

Instead of shutting up, Kasperi laughed, which only made Hannah madder. "You mean Olli hasn't taught you any Finnish yet?"

"No, why would he," she rolled her eyes. "Why, is that normal?"

"I could teach you Finnish if you want. First, there's 'vittu,' it's like a friendly, everyday greeting," Kasperi said with a grin. "And there's-"

"That's not what it means; I know my Finnish swears: vittu, perkele, paska, paskiainen.... I have to know all foreign swears so I can edit them out of game and practice footage before we put it online; those French Canadians swear a lot. And Geno? He thinks that because he's the only Russian on our team he can swear as much as he wants. " Hannah laughed exasperatedly and turned to Olli. "Why can't Kasper stay with Beau and Bortz? Or Megna, or anyone other than us?"

"I am looking for a place, you know. And it's not 'Kasper,' thanks," he replied from the backseat and went back to texting his girls.

"I never thought I'd say this, but I think Beth needs to visit," Hannah said with a mischievous grin, and Olli laughed.

"Beth? Who's Beth? Is she hot?" Kasperi leaned forward so he was practically next to Hannah.

"She's my younger sister-don't worry she looks nothing like me- and she's a model, just your type," Hannah tried to sound genuine. "And she's 21, so she can buy you alcohol. I think the guy at the liquor store is getting suspicious with the amount of Finnish viina I've been buying for you two lately."

When they got home Kasperi left to meet up with some girl, and Hannah and Olli were finally alone. Hannah sighed and poured them both a drink and settled on the couch next to him.

"I feel like I'm babysitting him or something," she said and turned the tv. "What do you want to watch?"

"I don't know, you can pick," Olli leaned back and watched Hannah flip through Netflix, not finding anything worth watching. He knew there was only one movie on her mind, and it certainly wasn't on Netflix. Her phone buzzed and Hannah jumped to see who was calling. She'd been like that since she returned from LA, waiting for the call from Miss Simmonds. Olli could tell by her reaction that this was it, the phone call she'd been waiting for. She jumped off the couch and ran toward her office to answer it, leaving Olli alone on the couch. He tried not to be so negative, but he really didn't want her to get it; he didn't want her to leave. Even if she didn't get to direct it like she wanted to, things would change. She would be making a name for herself, and if it wasn't this film, it would be the next one. Honestly, this is why he kept Kasperi around, so he wouldn't be alone.

Olli knew it shouldn't take 20 minutes to reject someone's screenplay, so 20, 25, 30 minutes later, he started to lose hope. When Hannah emerged from the office with a smile on her face, Olli regretfully could not return her happiness. "How did it go?" He asked, although it was obvious it had gone well.

"Well, it's kind of interesting. First, Miss Simmonds said she read it and she liked it, but the production company she worked for couldn't produce it. It didn't fit in with their style or something, I don't know. However, she sent it to a colleague at a different production company, in Toronto. So far, their preliminary reaction is that they like it. But I still have to wait to see if they want to take it on." She refilled her drink and sat down next to Olli. "I know it's not a complete success, but I think we should celebrate. Maybe go out or something."

"And do what? We can't go to a bar or anything," Olli wasn't trying to sound negative, yet he wasn't trying not to, either.

"No, I was thinking we could get some ice cream," she leaned forward and kissed him on the nose. "Like we used to."

As they walked to the ice cream shop, Olli started to feel a little more optimistic. Toronto was much closer than LA, so maybe things weren't going to be as different. After all, here they were getting ice cream together, just like old times.
