Chapter 12
Hannah watched the guys excitedly enter the locker room after their 3-1 win over the Ducks. A couple of them gave her a high five or a fist bump as they walked past her, but she was looking for Olli. He had scored the Pen's second goal and played well all night, so when she saw him coming up the hallway toward the locker room, she jumped and started waving. He waved back and she ran toward him and jumped on him, wrapping her arms and legs around him. She gave him a kiss, hopped off and held his hand as they walked into the locker room.
"Nice job tonight Olli," She leaned over and kissed his forehead after he sat down and removed his helmet.
"Thanks," he smiled at her and continued to take off his gear and skates. He looked back up at her when she didn't move. "Don't you have to help with the interviews?"
"Yup," she smiled, but didn't leave. "You're getting interviewed."
Hannah was still smiling, so excited that she got to help with her boyfriend's interview, but Olli was a little nervous. He didn't mind doing interviews, but he got nervous and sometimes didn't speak English as well as he normally could. Mostly, Olli just didn't want to embarrass himself in front of his girlfriend.
"Do you want me to fix your hair first or go over the questions?" Hannah asked.
"Questions," Olli responded and she sat down next to him. She handed him the list of potential questions he might get asked and started to go over them while she fixed his hair.
"You look so hot right now," Hannah muttered to herself and looked him over after she finished his hair.
"What?" He looked up from the questions and stared at her with a confused expression.
"I said you look hot." She sat down next to him.
"Yeah, well I was just playing hockey so-"
"No, I mean you look sexy, like, I want to touch you or something," Hannah replied quietly as she moved closer to him.
Olli stared at her, slightly confused, slightly turned on (slightly!?), and nervously swallowed as he tried to clear his head.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that," Hannah slid away from him and looked down in embarrassment. "I should help with Sid's interview."
She got up and left Olli confused and slightly dazed. He shook his head and tried to focus on the questions she'd given him. As the cameras started setting up in front of him he tried to clear his head and remember what had happened during the game.
His interview was not the best, but how could it have been? He didn't blame Hannah, more himself, for letting his mind get carried away. After the interviews Hannah came over to him as he was about to head into the shower.
"Hey, sorry about that," she apologized and looked a little embarrassed. "I'm headed off to edit it now, so I'll try to make you look a little better if I can."
Olli laughed, "I don't really care about that, but could you not say that kind of thing to me before interviews, or in public in general?"
Hannah noticed he was still sitting, and holding something on his lap, and she immediately realized what he was hinting at. She bit her lip to keep from laughing, and closed her eyes for a second so she wouldn't have to see his cute, innocent, embarrassed face looking up at her.
"Okay," she nodded and took a deep breath. "I'm going to leave now, good luck with that." She left to edit his interview, and Olli remained seated, pretending to fiddle with his skates, until the room was almost empty and most of the guys were out of the showers.
Hannah had just finished cutting his interview and was startled to hear a knock on the door.
"Hey Ol- umm, hi Sunshine," she said, thinking it would be Olli, but nope, it was Beau.
"Can I give you some advice?" He said before slipping into the tiny office.
"Okay... and yes, please come in," she added sarcastically. He sat down across from her desk and started playing with the ball of rubber bands she kept on the corner of her desk.
"So, I don't know if you know this, but Olli's been kind of....distracted lately," Beau said, deeply absorbed by the rubber band ball.
"What do you mean? He seemed pretty focused during the game today." Hannah sat down at her desk and took the ball from him.
Beau sighed-sad that she'd taken his toy away. "Not during games, but at practice and off the ice you can tell he's definitely got something else on his mind."
"And..." Hannah asked, not sure where Beau was going with this, or why he was telling her.
"I'm just saying it might start to affect his game soon, and then it would be a problem."
"What would?"
"Oh my God Hannah, he's 19. Do you not know what I'm talking about," Beau rolled his eyes.
"Yes, but I want to make you say it," Hannah smiled and cocked her head to the side, teasing him a little.
"Hannah come on," Beau whined. "Just don't tease him like that, okay? You're making him awkward."
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to. And sometimes I forget he's so young and inexperienced, or something," Hannah leaned back in her seat, slightly embarrassed now.
There was another knock on the door and it opened before Hannah could reply.
"Hey," Brandon said as he leaned around the door. He noticed Beau and shot Hannah a questioning glance before continuing. "Olli wanted me to tell you he'll be a few minutes late, but don't leave without him."
"Okay, thank you." Hannah replied, but Brandon didn't leave. "Are you going to try to give me advice on my sex life too?"
"What? No," Brandon gave her a mock disgusted look before leaving.
"I should probably head out too," Beau started to stand up but she stopped him.
"I have a very important question for you first," Hannah pushed him back in to his chair. "Promise not to judge me or anything?"
"I guess, unless it's about murdering babies or something."
"No, it's kind of embarrassing, but I need your advice," Hannah paused and tried to word her question right. "When do people normally get physical in a relationship?"
Beau looked like he was going to laugh, but stopped. "Wait, you genuinely don't know?"
"No, I've never been in a relationship that didn't start with sex." Hannah blushed, but Beau didn't call her a slut or anything; he didn't even seem to care.
"After a couple weeks or so, I guess? Maybe longer? I don't know, why don't you ask Suttsy isn't he like your bff or something?"
"Yeah, or something," Hannah laughed. "He's kind of the opposite of me. He and his girlfriend have been together since high school, so that doesn't really help me very much."
"Seriously?" Beau looked very amused, but didn't comment. "But yeah, maybe a month or a few weeks. You don't think he's..."
"What?"
"A virgin," Beau whispered like it was something bad.
Hannah giggled, "I never thought about it, but I always assumed he wasn't."
"When he played with the London Knights he lived with a billet family, so he might not have had too many opportunities to do stuff, you know. And then he came here, so he missed the whole college experience," Beau explained, and Hannah was starting to agree with him.
"But how do I ask him without, like, hurting his feelings or whatever?"
Beau shrugged, "I don't know."
"Has anyone ever...asked you that?" Hannah asked carefully.
"Yes, all the time, because people think I'm 12 or something," Beau replied annoyed.
Hannah giggled, "It's true. But really, should I even bother asking him?"
"He'll tell you if he thinks it's important," Beau stood up. "I don't know, I'm not a relationship expert."
He was about to leave when there was another knock on the door. 'It must be Olli this time,' Hannah thought as she got up to open the door.
"Hey little hedgehog!" She said happily as she opened the door, only to see that it was not Olli, it was her boss.
"Hedgehog?" Beau laughed behind her.
"Because he has spiky hair and looks like a hedgehog," Hannah whispered to him before turning back to her boss. "Hey Mike, what's up?"
"Are you busy?" He gave her a strange look and Beau slipped passed them out the door.
"Nope, I guess I'm not." Hannah laughed and Mike sat down across from her desk where Beau had been.
"I have some good news Hannah: we're promoting you again," Mike smiled.
"Wow, thank you, that's great! To what position?"
"You're getting moved up from second assistant director to first AD."
"But we didn't even have a first AD; does this mean we're getting a second AD now?" Hannah asked.
"No, you'll still be responsible for most of the things you used to do, as well as some new things," Mike was still smiling despite Hannah's apparent disenchantment in her new position. "You are now my second in command, so you have more responsibilities, but you can delegate to the new interns if you want."
"Yay. New interns," Hannah replied sarcastically, and Mike laughed.
"I know, that's not your favorite thing, but at least you get a raise. This will explain everything you need to know about the job and a few other things," he handed her a thick stack of papers held together with a binder clip. "You start tomorrow; have fun reading this tonight."
Mike smiled as she glared at him before leaving. Hannah started to read through the first few pages when she was interrupted with yet another knock on her office door.
"Come in!" She called, positive that it was Olli this time, and it was.
"Hey, are you ready?" He asked.
"I'm going to have to cancel, I have to read through all of this by tomorrow," she flipped through the pages to show him how long it was.
"What is that, homework?" He asked, looking disappointed that she had to cancel their date.
"No, well yes, kind of. I got promoted and this is all of the stuff I have to learn," she explained.
"You were promoted? That's awesome!" Olli smiled. "We should do something to celebrate."
"Maybe tomorrow. Besides, it's pretty late already. But I'll see you at practice tomorrow," she looked up at him tiredly and smiled before continuing to read.
"Are you sure? We leave tomorrow night for the Capitals game, so we'd only have a couple of hours after practice, and I was looking forward to this," he looked so sad that Hannah couldn't say no.
"Okay, but I'm probably going to be up for a few hours reading this," Hannah said and started to pack up her things. The 'date' they had planned wasn't really a date, but a sleep over, which is why Hannah had asked Beau about sex.
However, that wouldn't be an issue now that she was going to be up until 3am reading through her new job description.
Olli was so nervous as he drove to Hannah's apartment. He was not entirely sure what this 'sleep over' was supposed to be. But when he got to her apartment and she was already in her pajamas, he realized this was not going to be a romantic type sleepover.
"It's pajama time Olli!" She said to him after giving him a kiss. He laughed and headed off toward the guest bedroom to change.
"No, you're in here tonight," Hannah pushed him toward her bedroom.
Olli turned around to give her a questioning smile, but she shoved him in her bedroom and shut the door. He set his bag down and looked around her spacious bedroom. As he changed into his pajamas, he looked at all of the cool movie posters, weird artwork, and other stuff Hannah had hung from her walls. There was one movie poster in the corner that caught his eye. The title didn't sound familiar, but as he got closer to it he realized it was a movie Hannah had written and directed. 'Painted Flowers,' he said as he read the title out loud, and made a mental note to ask Hannah about it sometime.
He found her curled up on the couch reading through the long document Mike had given her, and he sat next to her.
"Hey," she said without looking up.
"How's your reading going?" Olli asked, and took one of her small feet in his hands and started giving her a foot massage.
"Thank you," Hannah giggled. "That tickles a little. Reading is going.... Okay. It's boring."
"That sucks. I should probably go to sleep soon, it's almost midnight and I have practice tomorrow morning. But have fun reading," Olli said as he got up and gave her a kiss goodnight.
"Thank you, I'll try not to wake you up when I come to bed," Hannah said as she watched Olli leave, heading off to her room.
When she finally finished reading she crawled into bed and curled up next to Olli to keep warm.
Olli woke up when he felt a cold pair of hands reaching around his chest. He smiled and hugged her back, and slowly fell back to sleep.
