Chapter 11
Hannah was anxiously awaiting Olli's return from the Pens' three game road trip. They had been gone since a few days after the Halloween party over a week ago, and Hannah was definitely ready to see her boyfriend again. She hated to admit it, because this was the kind of thing she liked to avoid, but she missed him. And then there was the fact that the night before he left they'd had their first real first kiss.
He walked her up to her apartment after they'd gone to dinner together, and he lingered for a bit. Hannah could tell he wanted to kiss her, so she decided to help him out a bit. She leaned closer to him and rolled up on her tippy toes, wrapping her arms around his neck. When he still didn't go for it, she pulled on his neck a little, just to give him a hint. He swallowed nervously and slowly leaned forward, lowering his head the rest of the way so his lips could reach hers. He placed his hands carefully on her back and gently pulled her closer so she was touching him. Hannah smiled when his lips finally touched hers, and he started to pull back, but she closed the space between them with another kiss. And another, until their tongues were entwined and Olli slowly pushed her against the wall. Hannah's hands were roaming all over his shoulders, neck and hair, while Olli's hands slowly moved up from her lower back.
Hannah blindly started reaching for the door knob and tried to open the door. Olli pulled away from her, and she slumped back against the wall, upset that he'd stopped.
"I should probably go," he said with a slight smile, though he looked terrified. Hannah looked up at his expression and giggled.
"What? Are you scared?" She teased him and he blushed.
"No, it's late, and I have a plane to catch early tomorrow morning," he said, though she could tell he really didn't want to stop.
Reluctantly, Hannah let him go. He was being responsible, unlike her, and she liked that about him (though she really liked kissing him too...)
So that's why she was so anxious for him to get back. The week went by so slowly, and even though they texted every night, she missed him.
"You had better come straight here after you get off that plane," Hannah said to him after their last game.
"Are you sure? It'll be like 3 in the morning by the time we land?" Olli was trying to keep quiet because he was on the bus riding to the airport and didn't need his teammates listening to him.
"Then we can have breakfast together. By the way, you know we're face timing? Nice ear hun," Hannah giggled as he pulled his phone away and looked at her on the screen. "That's better, now I can see your handsome face." Hannah bit her lip as he blushed.
"Sorry, I guess hit the wrong button, it's kind of dark," he replied, embarrassed.
"I'll be waiting for you..." Hannah started to say, but noticed someone looking over the seat behind Olli. "Did you have a question Beau? It's rude to eavesdrop."
Olli turned around to see Beau Bennett staring over his shoulder with a grin.
"Sorry, but could you love birds keep it down? Your mating calls are making it hard for me to sleep," Beau said with a smirk, and Olli looked confused.
"Mating calls....? We were just talking," Olli turned back to look at Hannah on his phone, and she was laughing hysterically.
"Don't listen to Beau he's just being stupid," Hannah smiled, and the two ended their conversation.
Hannah was asleep on the couch when she was awoken by a light knocking. She jumped off the couch and tried to fix her hair as she ran over to get the door.
"Hey lovely," Olli said when she opened the door. If she wasn't so tired she probably would have thought he looked damned sexy leaning up against the door frame in his slightly ruffled suit and spiky hair.
Instead she yawned and invited him inside. "Would you like coffee?" she groggily asked him and headed toward the kitchen.
"Sure, you want me to help?"
"Do you know how to make french toast? Because I don't. But I bought food," she smile tiredly and opened the refrigerator to proudly show him that it wasn't empty like had been the last time he'd visited.
Olli shrugged, "Sure, I can make french toast," he got out some eggs, milk, bread, and other stuff. "So, are these your usual pajamas or are you just wearing that because I'm here?"
Hannah looked down at her totally unsexy flannel pajama bottoms, but blushed when she realized she was wearing the Maatta Penguins sweatshirt her sister sent her after figuring out who she was dating. "Oh, um, I was cold and grabbed something; I didn't even realize what it was..." she trailed off, embarrassed and tired.
"That's fine. Where did you-"
"My sister gave it to me," Hannah responded quickly, not wanting him to think she bought it because she missed him like some clingy girlfriend.
"Your sister? The model?" Olli asked, and realized he couldn't remember her name.
Hannah rolled her eyes, "Yes, Beth is a model, but she's also really stupid and likes to make me mad."
"Sounds fun, do I get to meet her?"
In her tiredness, Hannah mistook Olli's sarcasm for genuine interest in her sister. "Why do you want to meet her? Because she's taller and prettier than me, and only a year older than you, instead of four years?"
"I was joking, sorry," Olli smiled at her as he flipped the french toast. "I don't care if she's a model, or taller, or younger. But she definitely isn't prettier than you."
Hannah smiled, realizing she was being stupid, and leaned up against him, wrapping her arms around his waist. "Sorry, I'm just tired. And thank you, it's nice to hear someone say I'm prettier than her, because it's been the opposite of that my entire life."
The rest of breakfast went okay once Hannah had some coffee. They started to watch a movie, but Hannah fell asleep. Olli carefully picked her up and carried her to bed and tucked her in. He was about to leave, but took one last look at her sleeping, and kissed her cheek.
"Good night princess," he whispered and left to sleep in the guest bedroom.
-
"Why do you always sleep in the guest bedroom?" Hannah asked Olli at practice the next day. A couple of his teammates heard her (including Brandon and Beau, so she glared at them until they skated away).
"I don't know, it just seemed like the polite thing to do. We've only been dating a few weeks, if that," Olli shrugged.
"I guess," Hannah tried to remember how 'normal' relationships worked, and figured Olli probably knew better than her. "My bed is too big for me, and I get cold, so if you ever feel like not being polite, you can sleep with me."
"Okay," Olli laughed, and left to join the rest of the guys on the ice.
Hannah went back to the film editing office until she had to get ready for the post-practice interviews.
"So, you and Olli have had a few sleepovers?" Brandon asked with a smirk as Hannah got Sid ready for his interview. Sid raised his eyebrows but didn't say anything.
"Do you enjoy this? Making fun of my sex life?" Hannah asked, getting kind of irritated with him.
"Oh, your 'sex life?' So you're actually sleeping with him? I thought that was just what you kids called sleeping over. What do you guys even do? Eat animal crackers and drink juice boxes while watching Dora?" Brandon grinned, and Hannah reluctantly smiled a tiny bit.
"First of all, 'you kids?' Come on B, I'm only a year younger than you. Secondly, you've been dating the same girl since high school, what the hell do you know about other people's sex lives? You know I'm like infinitely more experienced than you in that genre," Hannah retorted (and exaggerated, just a bit) and watched Brandon slowly blush.
"I'm sorry, you're bragging about being promiscuous?" Brandon replied, still teasing her.
"I didn't say I was a prostitute or anything, I'm just experienced, that's all," Hannah suddenly didn't like where this conversation was going and tried to hurry up Sid's interview, but none of the reporters were ready. (Sid, by the way, was totally loving being stuck in the middle of this conversation...)
"Experienced? In what?" Brandon asked.
"Oh my God, do you need me to demonstrate?" Hannah rolled her eyes, but suddenly decided to mess with Brandon a bit and get back at him for all of his teasing. "Well, most of it I picked up while studying abroad in Amsterdam. Mostly just oral techniques and stuff that only 'professionals' know. By my junior year in college I had the nick-name 'Finger Cuff' because-"
"You know what, I'm good. Really, I'm good," Sid held up his hand and interrupted her at just the right moment. "I really, really, don't want to know what that means."
"Hannah, can you help with the Neal interview?" Her boss asked, and she gladly left Sid and Brandon.
"So, I know you're very particular about your hair, but do you mind if I towel it off a bit?" Hannah asked James and he nodded.
"Did I hear you mention something about finger cuffs?" He asked when she finished.
Hannah laughed, "Yes, but I made that all up. I heard about that from the movie 'Chasing Amy,' which is a terrible movie by the way, it has Ben Affleck. I never studied abroad in Amsterdam or anything like that, I was just getting back at Brandon. Why?"
James shrugged, "Nothing, I was just wondering. I've never actually met someone who's done that, so I was curious."
Hannah rolled her eyes, "Of course you were, and no, I will not have a threesome with you." Hannah sighed and started helping the camera crew, ignoring Nealer and Geno's whispers and glances. She didn't realize she'd said that loud enough for them to hear, and suddenly wondered if Olli had heard it. She looked across the room at him, and he was slowly taking off his gear. He glanced up at her, and their eyes only met for a second, but she knew he'd probably heard their whole conversation.
She slowly walked back to the film editing office after finishing up the interviews, trying to think of a way to explain this to Olli. As usual, she found him waiting for her, leaning against the door frame.
"Hey," she looked up at him as she unlocked the door.
"Hey," he followed her into the office, and she kept her back to him as she put away the camera. "So, Amsterdam? I thought you said you'd never been to Europe?"
"I lied," she turned around, and he looked disappointed. "To Brandon. I lied to Brandon about studying abroad, and finger cuffs, because I was just messing with him, getting back at him for being a jerk."
"Finger cuffs?" Olli looked confused, but continued. "Do you want me to beat up Brandon for you?"
Hannah laughed because Olli actually looked serious about that. "No, please don't. And I can take care of that myself if I need to. But that's very chivalrous of you to offer."
Olli smiled and drew Hannah into a hug. She pressed the side of her face into his chest, feeling the soft fabric of his shirt against her cheek. "Olli?" she looked up at him. "I want to do things right with you, and take things a little slower, like physically."
He felt a slight pang of disappointment, but he nodded.
"I just want to make sure this works, because I've messed up a lot of relationships by jumping into things too fast. So when you think we're ready for stuff, let me know, because I'm terrible at judging that," Hannah laughed nervously. She'd never said anything like this to anyone, but she trusted Olli, and felt safe with him. "But we can still kiss."
Olli smiled, but the two sides of his brain were fighting. One side said let's wait, the other side said let's screw her on her desk right now.
"Want to see a movie?" Hannah drew him out of his mental battle.
"Sure, what's playing?" He took her hand and they started walking through the halls of Consol toward the parking garage.
"We could see the new Thor movie," Hannah suggested, and Olli shrugged.
"Whatever you want, you're the expert," he smiled, and she chatted about Thor, the Avengers, and Marvel as they walked to his car.
As disappointed as he was about Hannah wanting to wait a bit before they have sex, Olli was equally, if not more, happy that she wanted this to work between them. Hannah was by far the most serious he had ever been about someone, so he was willing to do almost anything she wanted to make it work.
After all, he thought as he took one last glance at her before he started driving them to the theater, she's worth the wait.
But at least they could still kiss. That makes going to the movies so much more fun....
