Strays

"Lee," Suki ran over to the older teen as he was lighting a cigarette while he was leaning against the wall of a building outside.

"This kat girl, what's the plan?" She crossed her arms as he inhaled smoke and breathed it out slowly while offering the stick to her.

"I wanna know her situation, family close by or out of state, see if there's anyone to help her out," he said calmly as Suki let smoke flood out her lips from the cigarette.

"See why she's here?" Suki raised a brow.

"We're all here for the same reason, getting out of a shitty situation," Lee nodded.

"You can't keep taking in strays," she shook her head. "We don't have another bed,"

"I had to take Aang in Suki, and I've known ty Lee for a long time," he grinned a little looking at her.

"And I owed You a favor, it's not a big deal If I have to share my bed with Aang for a bit so kat has a roof over her head," Lee nodded as he took his cigarette back.

"What about the blue dragon gang?" Suki asked in a lower tone.

"What about them?" He frowned.

"If they find us again because of this chick I'm not sticking around," she looked down nervously.

"We've moved before Suki, it doesn't work," Lee rolled his eyes.

"No, I'm leaving lee, I'm sorry but I'm not risking them coming after all of us again, i have to think about myself, I'll take Aang too if they hurt him again," Suki gulped and Lee looked at her wide eyes full of guilt.

"I'm not going to let them hurt You Or him again, I won't," Lee rubbed his face as his fingers lingered on the scar over his eye.

"I know lee but your only one person, I just can't see all of us like that again, it took months for Aang to stop having night terrors," she felt tears burn in her eyes.

"A-and you still don't sleep because of last time and I'm still scared to be without anyone cause what if something happened-" "Suki I understand," Lee put his hand on top of her head as she inhaled a shaky breath.

"We were ambushed and it's not your fight, I won't force You to stay, I'll make sure you leave safely too," he smiled down at her but her eyes were still glossy with tears.

"And if it's bad, please take Aang with you," he agreed. It broke her heart but Suki nodded.

"But let's not think about the worse today, let's focus on kat," Lee flicked the end of the cigarette on the ground and stepped on it as he started to walk.

"Oi Aang! Ty! Kat!" Lee raised his hand to catch their attention seeing the three teens walking down the sidewalk.

Katara smiled at lee and Suki but heard lee say something back to Suki in another language and she rolled her eyes nodding. It sounded like it was Japanese almost but she wasn't sure. Ty Lee smiled like she understood.

"What was that?" Aang asked.

"Nothing don't worry about it," Lee took the younger boys hood down as he joined them and Suki followed.

"And stop wearing a hood You look like a delinquent," Lee told him as Aang groaned messing with his short hair.

"I don't like my hair though, I was going to shave my head again soon," Aang whined.

"We don't have clippers, and scissors won't cut it short enough," Lee yawned a little as ty Lee hugged Suki happily while they walked together.

"Aw man," Aang whined, making Katara giggle.

"Oh shoot I gotta job to do," the youngest gasped seeing the time on a tv when they passed a store window.

"You have jobs?" Katara asked curiously.

"I mow peoples yards on the weekend cause they pay cash," Aang explained to her.

"Be back at the station before sundown," Lee nodded before Aang ran off.

"Do you have a job?" Katara asked the girls behind her.

"We just got the homeless shelter to get supplies and meals," Suki told her with a shrug.

"Lee sells drugs," Ty Lee pointed.

"I don't sell drugs," Lee said in a monotone voice.

"You've sold weed!" She defended.

"Before it was legal," he shrugged. "I just sell it to the minors, I don't sell hardcore stuff anymore,"

"Jeez that sounds hardcore already," Katara rubbed her arm intimidated.

"What do you sell then?" She asked as he walked down an alleyway and lifted a garbage can that had an open bottom and a backpack.

"Prescriptions and guns," he looked inside to see everything was still there. Her jaw dropped.

"It's really easy to get both," Lee had innocent look on his face almost as if not understanding why it was a big deal to her.

"I think I almost rather there be weed," Katara whispered to the girls unsure.

"I have weed?" Lee pulled out a baggy of joints.

"Put that shit away, go sell something, we'll make it a girls day with kat," Suki smacked his hand as he shrugged the backpack on.

"See you before sunset," he put his hoodie in the backpack before walking off and Katara saw he had a watch on that looked pretty nice.

"Is lee like a gang member or something?" Katara asked as ty Lee wrapped her arms around Kataras one arm.

"We were but not anymore," Ty Lee nodded casually.

"You too?!" She gasped.

"Yea, that's how we've been friends for so long," Ty Lee smiled.

"Oh that's why You knew Japanese?" Katara connected the dot and she shrugged.

"I only understand if I just can't speak it, Suki knows how to speak it though," she explained as Suki stuffed her hands in her pockets walking with.

"Your Japanese too?" Katara blinked.

"No I'm adopted, my mother is Japanese though," Suki popped in a piece of gum and threw the wrapper on the ground.

"Huh, small world," Katara nodded slowly but yipped when Ty Lee dragged her to walk faster.
